Free Presto for 6 Months (Telstra Promotion)

6030
PRESTO

Recently signed up for Telstra's XL Bundle, unfortunately, the code for 6 months of free Presto was nowhere to be seen.

After waiting weeks, I decided to take it up with Telstra's 24/7 Chat. The kind gentleman informed me that I could SMS the word 'PRESTO' to 0498 500 400 and receive the special code… PRESTO! It worked.

Also got a few friends to try this that aren't on the Telstra network, and all were successful.

Another code thanks to RogueWolf6 in case the SMS feature above doesn't give you one: TELB6MTH615

Just saw this promo on my T-BOX under information/news, don't think its targeted, find out soon I guess

This is so gonna get ozbargained

    • +1

Yeah and we will get bill from Telstra or to call their Control group afterwards..

    • +3

      I prefer pesto

    • OP, add: "CREDIT CARD REQUIRED" in Title

So, do you get only TV or only Movies or Both?

Either way… Guessing why it's Free:

So, How to Get this - via a Non-Telstra wired Internet service - onto an Android device, that's NOT a phone?

"Register your Code by 3 Aug 2015"…???

  • +16

Not surprising, I can't imagine many people paying for it.
    http://mumbrella.com.au/netflix-wins-the-streaming-battle-wi…

    • +23

Seriously, it's not even HD. Why would anyone pay for Presto!?

    • +21

I didn't even want it for free. I signed up, it didnt work and was poor quality and I just cancelled the account. Signing up and maintaining a free account just encourages their bad behaviour.

      • +2

        poor quality

Hence I haven't watched one thing since getting the first 6 months free.

it's not even HD. Why would anyone pay for Presto!?

People who either don't know better or just don't care about watching things reduced to VHS quality on their 60"+ TV.

        • +1

yeh im not watching sd either , its a waste of everyones time

        • -1

          @ugoagogo:

What has put the FoG (Fear of God) into our grumblers,
that prevents them from NEGGING what they do not like?

Probably that undemocratic part of OzB (ie, the option
to Neg a Negger (Note to Mods: That's NOT the N word.)

        • +1

@IVI: the deal is not for me and the reason why as stated….but for others who dont know better or dont care its great…..certainly not neg worthy

        • @ugoagogo:

Each voter can decide for themselves what's "Neg Worthy"

This is the idea of Democracy… I vote as I will, until OzB's "herd mentality" variation of Democracy ERASES my negs… (!)

  • +1

Brilliant. Got a response less than a minute. Thanks OP!!
Yep, this will be hammered by OzB :)

    • +7

All signed up with a new account. Downloaded the app to my Android phone. Does not work on a "Jailbroken" device. Won't even let me cast it. Stupid!
No wonder Netflix is killing it.

      • -1

There are ways around the jailbreak detection. Google it.

        • +5

Why bother though when he can just stick to Netflix and get a better service?

        • +3

i googled it but there was nothing obvious except apologists for presto saying 'sorry but tough shit if you're not happy because we are'.

        • Not always.

        • -1

Some of this apps still outsmart this and crash the app anyway. Google it ;)

        • +1

@roadwreck: it is called Hide my Root and works well with Presto.

        • +3

@xsacha: where was this when I was young.

      • Do you have Lollipop? Install to the secure zone.

        • My device is in a strange limbo. I turned S-OFF and updated it to a lollipop 5.1.1 GPE rom a few months. Which means it's no longer really rooted and I need to manually re-root it (although Presto still detects it). That requires me wiping all phone data, which I'm not really willing to do right now for silly Presto. Hide My Root does nothing because it doesn't see it as rooted.

I've not heard of this secure zone before, nor can find anything about it readily online. Do you mind elaborating?

        • @JoelT:

Secure zone is a separate part of the phone with it's own data files etc. So with my Lenovo I have the open zone which is rooted, then further in the phone I have secure zone which has it's own separate password protection and is unrooted where I keep bank apps and the like. It's basically Android within Android.

Having a look online now it looks like it might be a Lenovo only thing, sorry to have got your hopes up but I genuinely thought it was a standard Lollipop feature.

  • doesn't work for me. saying code not recognised

    • SMS the word 'PRESTO' to 0498 500 400 to receive the special code, cheers

  • Worked for me on Vodafone

  • Worked…will give it a go thanks.

No free usage on iiNet broadband though unlike Netflix.

  • Took about 20 seconds to get a response! Thanks OP!
(and yes, this is totally going to get OzBargained) haha

  • Worked for me cheers

  • +7

Any way to stack codes? Currently running one of those other 6 month promo codes which will expire in 2 or 3 months.

    • cancel account and start with another credit card and email?

    • following

  • Worked a treat … Thanks!

  • Does work on Aldi Mobile

  • Thanks op :-)

  • Works fine for me. Thanks OP.

  • Works on amaysim

Not working, error Your promo code was not recognised

    • +1

      dude, read the instruction above

  • worked for me, I have a telstra bundle which expired a few weeks ago, and I just tried.

  • does it top up an existing presto account or do you need to be a new customer?

    • +1

I also have the same question. Looks like it is better to pause my existing subscription which is also on 6 months free :-) and take the new one.

      • Really? Didn't know that pausing subscription was available. That'd be a workaround for stacking using additional subscriptions/email addresses, thanks.

  • got it… took about a minute to come through.
    I am on telechoice.

  • +2

Now with the samsung tv presto app im enjoying the subscription a lot more. Up to season 5 of entourage!!

    • Really wish they'd release some more apps, AppleTv would be perfect but I'd settle for my Panasonic TV

  • Worked for me thanks

  • On optus. No response

    • +1

I'm on optus got a response straight away

      • Lol mine just came through!

  • +1

entered code in presto site, said it was valid… when I hit accept on terms and conditions it said the code was invalid.

  • worked fine for me (on optus network) Thanks!

  • Optus customer here. This worked a treat. Cheers! Finally, I can binge watch The Wire.
Now I've just got to remember to cancel it in 6 months…

EDIT: Just saw they have All Saints. I know what I'm watching tonight!

    • All Saints over The Wire…..thats just nuts ;)

  • sweet, worked. cheers

  • A search for that number and Telstra help/chat says you can actually sms anything you want to the number and get a code. ie doesn't need to be presto that you send.

Of course those posts didn't point out that it would send a code to anyone - not just valid Telstra customers ;)

  • +1

You want to cancel it in a bit less than 6 months. There's no phone support (that should raise some alarms), so you can't do it that way. You can only cancel on their website, from a PC, not from a phone or a tablet. Currently logins to their site aren't working (maybe because of this post), so you can't login to cancel at all.

  • Got the code in less than 5 seconds thanks

  • -1

Sweet. Worked. Thanks…usually id be sure that this wouldnt end well but i Dont reckon they can cancel this coz would be too hard to work out who is legit and whos not if the testra CS reps are dishing this out all day long.

In saying that please dont go too stupid and give it out to all and sundry, and only use it if you dont already have a free sub- youll not only ruin it for the rest of us but also for the OP and friends who could have kept this quiet for themself.

  • Worked for me. Cheers

  • +1

    Worked on Amaysim! Cheers mate!

  • I signed up (telstra customer) but when I go to play anything I get:

    DRM Error
You are not authorised to view this content.

    • Have you set up your parental control?

      • Yes, I tried Chrome instead of Safari and it plays.

        • +3

          @ssa: cool story bro

    • +1

      Affirmative

  • Thanks OP!

There's no clear indications as to how many devices can connect simultaneously, like during netflix setup. Found the answer in FAQ, in case anyone else is wondering.

How many devices can I watch movies on at the same time?

Two of your four registered devices can be actively playing a movie or a TV show at any given time. Remember if you are casting from your Chromecast, this counts as two concurrent streams.

  • +3

I think it's worth adding that it needs your credit card details.

  • got mah code on amaysim - thanks op!!

  • Complete Sopranos? Yes please. Thanks OP!

  • Surprised worked for non Telstra numbers

  • Thanks heaps OP.

Wondering how easy to cancel it?

  • You are a good man OP! Thanks.

  • They started trialling HD a few weeks back…anyone checked it out?

    https://community.presto.com.au/t5/Announcements-Updates/Com…

Also heard rumours of them hooking up with Quickflix, which would make Presto available virtually everywhere:

how to unlock r18+ classfiieds ? not being dirty or anything…

    • Yeah wont let me choose R18 either :(

    • You can do it on either the ipad app or web. not both. I think its ipad.

      • I can confirm you can set R18 from the iPad.

        • +1

It's left locked unless you put the pin

        • @bluepanther: Its weird, if I am on the settings page and reload, I can see the section to input the pin pop up, then when the page fully loads it disappears again.

      • Correct.

You can only UNLOCK it using tablet apps :)

If you have tablet download Presto. Anytime app (on google play) and you can log in there and unlock your adult sensation :)

        same thing with iPad.

Does not work on Presto smartphone apps though and website.

    • Yeah I couldn't enable it either. Don't want to be missing out on that hidden TnA collection

  • Works! Thank you!
