It says that giftcard will be sent via email.
How are we supposed to use it? print and scan?
can we used it in normal woolworth stores rather than caltex woolworth?
never understood how these egift cards work…

    • +2

just key in the gift voucher number and the code…just like how you would manually enter cc number..

do need to tell the teller that you're paying with gift card first of course..

      • +1

to be exact, you would have to say "eGiftCard" because it will bring up a different payment screen on the machine.

  • +18

but …you could always buy a 5% off from cashreward anyway…any special deal? the extra 4C you get from using caltex woolworth GC as oppposed to normal woolies/wish gift card I presume?

    • +5

Buy from Cashrewards is way better! It direct you to WW GC site and you get a confirmation from the card issuer within minutes and the card via email in a few hours.
I bought from Groupon a few times, once it took more than a week to get the email! Because if you have any problems no one is there to help you, I wont do that for $1000+ purchase any more.

    • +3

but… there's referral credit to be made here :L

      • Alright…you're right..time to create fake email ;)

    • +2

What am I thinking?! Of course there's no such thing as 4c discount when paying with Caltex Woolies GC. Misread OP's title. Thought it's something new. I'll stick to my cashreward almost instant e-gift voucher purchase. In fact I usually buy the gift card while shopping LOL….usually take less than half hour to get it..Guess OP just want some free referral credit, not from me sorry..as this is just a common reposted over and over again..

    • Recently Caltex petrol stations don't take eGift card. However they do accept Gift card. Weird. I have not been able to pay by egift card at Caltex, and only accepted at Woolies petrol stations. This would come in handy when you need to fill up at Caltex.

      • +1

        Hope this clarifies.

DO NOT ACCEPT E-GIFT CARDS => All stations that display "Woolies, save 4c" but have a "starmart/starshop" instead of "woolies" as their convenience store. (MOSTLY IN NSW)

ACCEPTS E-GIFT CARDS => All stations that display "Woolies, save up to 8c" and have a "woolies" as their convenience store.

However, all of the above accept Woolies physical giftcards.

Reason why this happened: Caltex and Woolies went into a partnership to create Caltex/Woolies petrol stations, whereby Woolies owns about 500+ of them and Caltex owns about 100+ of them. This agreement has since expired (as of end 2014). Therefore, all those 100+ Caltex-owned stations will no longer participate in any woolies promo, but will however still accept the 4c petrol dockets.

      • Funny I used a Woolworths supermarket egiftcard at my local Caltex yesterday. Never had any issues using any WW group egiftcards at this outlet. Yours must not be on the list of participating Caltex stores (as per OPs link).

        • Does your local caltex display "save 8c" on their giant signboard? If yes, then they would accept e-gift cards.

If it displays a "save 4c" sign, they will not accept e-gift cards.

  • +5

Not sure why you would want this?

Cashrewareds always offer 5% of wish egiftcards that can be used at caltex woolwoorths

sorry droid11 you just beat me to it…

    • Not sure why you would want this?

im just suggesting a good deal, if you dont like it thats cool.
Some people may have a few bucks in groupon credit and waiting for a deal like this .
It doesn't always have to be about you ya know

      • +2

Fair comment. Based on experience, i'd suggest anyone use just about anything rather than Groupon. RAA doesn't stuff people around nor does it want drivers licenses to be emailed to them. I would not recommend Groupon to anyone.

        • Havent had any problem with groupon. Bought a few gift cards last week and got them within 24 hrs

        • +1

Like EC, never had an issue with Groupon. $10 referral credits come in handy for deals like this :)

        • +1

          RAA doesn't stuff people around

You have got to be joking i left them when they left me stranded because new on the spot signups have priority

        • I avoid them too. Lack of standard courtesy emails to let customers know when to expect items, or even acknowledgement of their order acceptance, left me dangling for two or so weeks, so I looked into them and found (as eg.) people ordering wow giftcards in Jan15 were still not sorted out in Mar or Apr15.
They seem ok but a bit unproffesional in practice.

        • @easternculture: You didn't buy this Groupon deal

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195361

I think it took 2 weeks to get mine resent in that fiasco after the originals were cancelled.

      • +2

Until quite recently all purchases through Groupon were routed through Zurich, attracting foreign transaction fees (commonly 2 to 3%) on the purchase unless a couple of specific credit cards were used. Groupon has now fixed this serious problem, but it's a problem Cash Rewards never had.

Cash Rewards' 5% off offer is available 24/7 every day. Users have to wait for Groupon to offer it.

Coupled with the days to week long lag Groupon introduces before sending the PDF (versus maybe 2 hours with Cash Rewards), I would say CR is the superior offer.

    • +1

The only advantage with purchasing through Groupon is because they take Paypal as payment. So if you have a Paypal balance, Groupon is good, but they take 2 days+ to send the egiftcard. Cashrewards sends it within a few hours. For RAA, etc, you get it instantly during most shopping hours.

      • As many others have mentioned, not really not a true "deal" when CashRewards has this available 24/7 and is available so quickly and readily.

But yes that is definitely one of the advantages of purchasing this. PayPal + Groupon Credit, otherwise there is really no benefit whatsoever.

I personally have never had any issue with Groupon though and in fact find their customer service quite proactive/good.

edit: Actually you know what. This is worse than I thought - these can only be used at Woolies-branded Caltex. Can't even use them at Masters, Big W, BWS, Dan Murphy's or Woolies.

        • Yes you can. All WW group stores.

        • @easternculture:

I know. That's why I said this deal is worse than I thought because initially I thought this was one of the ones that can be used like WISH eGCs.

My point was that if you can get WISH eGCs 24/7 from CashRewards, then the only advantage of this is that you can use Groupon Credit/PayPal to pay, and you get Groupon customer service (if that is an advantage at all). Otherwise there is no advantage, and now realising it is for petrol only, another disadvantage is that it's not as versatile as WISH eGCs.

          PS I didn't neg you

          However.. wxyz234 is saying otherwise..

          @wxyz234:

So this can be used at Woolies/Masters/Big W/etc?

  • How long does cash rewards take to credit you the 5% back? Heard it takes forever?

    • +1

When you buy eGift cards through cash rewards they charge you with the 5% already discounted.

      • The Cash rewards link redirects you to the everydaygiftcards (Woolies giftcard) website and the everydaygiftcards site gives you the 5% off at checkout so you are not waiting for cash rewards to give you the credit back. I use the cash rewards 5% for my grocery shopping, petrol filling and OPAL topups which are available in selected Woolies.

    • +2

I bought an eGift card through Cash Rewards this afternoon. The PDF was emailed to me within 2 hours of payment, and the 5% discount was applied at checkout time.

Groupon takes at least a week to email through the PDFs, and offers the same discount. For me Groupon needs to improve its offer otherwise it's essentially worthless, considering the mountains of spam Groupon sends after making an order with them.

      • Can you use your credit card or is it considered a cash advance?

        • +2

I have used NAB and BankWest credit cards to buy eGift vouchers via Cash Rewards. Both went through as purchases and not cash advances.

  • +1

Thanks, handy as my local Caltex Woolies doesn't accept Woolies egift cards from cashrewards.

    • Thanks for the heads up, updated OP as per your comment.

    • But all Woolies sell Caltex gift cards, so make a note to yourself, after this deal you can buy Woolies gift cards via Cashrewards at 5% off and use them to buy any other gift card they sell including the Caltex ones.

      • Some woolies wont let you buy a Woolworths group gift card with another woolworths gift card. Been there, done that.

        • Odd, never had an issue at any of the Woolies I have used, I guess in excess of 5.

        • Just goto the self serve machines. Just remember to swipe your new gift card to activate it after you pay.

    • How can they tell? I have ordered eGift cards through both Groupon and Cash Rewards, and they look the same. I have used the cards at three Woolworths/Caltex sites without problems.

Pure Caltex sites without a tie in to Woolworths abound, and of course they won't accept an eGift card regardless of how it was purchased.

      • Well my local Caltex (Woolies discounted) is not on the list of participating Caltex servos.
        https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/gift-cards/learn-more/parti…

      • +3

Easiest way to tell if they accept e-gift cards:

DO NOT ACCEPT E-GIFT CARDS => All stations that display "save 4c" and have a "starmart/starshop" instead of "woolies" as their convenience store.

ACCEPTS E-GIFT CARDS => All stations that display "save up to 8c" and have a "woolies" as their convenience store.

  • My only concern is lack of Caltex servo's where I typically travel. Though with a 12 month expiry I'm sure I can find a few in that time. Tempting, 8c + 5% discount will add up.

So on $1.30 fuel (applying max discounts 5% + 8c) that typically brings the real price down to just under $1.16. Have I done the math right on that? Hmmm think I made a mistake somewhere..

  • +11

EC + referral deal = natural match.
Whats this one? $10 per sale!
    That must really add up.

    • Well said, EC has no problem getting the $10 referral even after the goof ups by Groupon. Similar deal available everyday for CashRewards (Wish Gift card rater than just Caltex, so you can use at all stores) but still its a deal. EC you know why you posted this deal, think about it from your inner soul why you posted this, think about Karma :P

  • Why not use the cashrewards standard 5% off? Can use at Caltex Woolies and other wish stores

      • +3

My local Caltex does not accept this Groupon Caltex Woolworths eGift Card either. They do not accept any eGift card. :(

      • +3

Are you implying that Groupon Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards work at more stores?

Because the link for participating stores in the fine print of the Groupon deal just goes to the same spreadsheet that you've linked above.

        • Only Woolies accepts Woolworths GCs. Only Woolies-branded Caltex will accept WISH (e)GCs though. From my understanding any Woolies branded Caltex will accept (e)GCs, whether this one or WISH ones.
        • PayPal dollars can be transferred out as cash directly into a bank account so not a significant "pro" - however, Groupon credit on the other hand is harder to burn.. so that would definitely be a good use of the dollars.
        • +2

          Incorrect!

        • @bsmksg: that's handy to know! Thanks

        • @bsmksg: Hmm interesting. Did not know that. Thanks for the correction.

      • Not all Caltex will accept Cash Rewards Woolworths Gift Cards
They're Wish eGift cards, the same as this
        Groupon accepts Paypal…
So does cash rewards(goes thru woolies payment portal)
Some people may have some surprise $10 Groupon credits that they can burn with this deal.
        then go ahead!

    • +7
      • because EC does not get a referral
  • Hmmm I think I'll stick with the 2% off through ING cash card. Being tied to these cards with money down is not worth the extra 3%.

    • It is if you are like me and get 3 points per $1 spent on Amex Platinum Edge (which is worth about 3% when converted to Virgin points).

So you get th card at 5% off and you get 3% worth of points, beating your 2% cashback on ING.

      • I don't do credit cards and as such don't have to pay any sort of yearly fee. Perhaps it works out for you, but any sort of tier at Amex platinum would make me worse off.

      • +1

I thought only supermarket spendings are worth 3 points per dollar, does buying giftcards from cashrewards/groupon count as spending at supermarkets?

or do you have some other AE Platinum Edge which gives you 3 points/dollar regardless of where you spent it?

        thx :)

        • +3

Buying through Cash Rewards takes you to Woolworths Money website, and on the credit card statement it comes through as a transaction from Woolworths.

Amex treat it same as a supermarket purchase, leading to 3 points per $1.

To earlier comment around annual fee, Platinum Edge is $149 via professional body association or $199 direct. Comes with a return Virgin flight that could be worth $600 if you live in Perth, or $300 if you are on the East Coast.

        • @oleglap:

          oh I see

I don't have the AE Platinum, nor have I brought those vouchers from Cashrewards before (but are interested in both), so thx for the clarification :)

        • @oleglap: but when I click through Cash Rewards' website to Woolworths Money, it doesn't accept AMEX. Only accept VISA/Mastercard. Yours accepting AMEX?

        • @DKC: It says they Prefer Visa and Mastercard. I got caught out the first time thinking that's all they accept. Type your Amex details in and you are fine. Must be their way to encourage lower fee cards (which is fair enough).

  • On the topic of the 5% gift card discount from cash rewards - is this discount ongoing or is it for limited time only?

  • Expires at the end of the year actually

  • +2

why would you buy a caltex card that you can only use at servos when you can get a normal woolworths card at 5% discount?

  • Any woolies workers know if the staff discount card works for woolies petrol?

  • +2

Great deal, but unfortunately I'll have to pass because of several negative experiences with Groupon in the recent past and frankly don't really have the confidence nor the trust in dealing with them again.

    • Like me posting a deal for them and they wouldn't give me the referral credits because I didn't know the actual names of the ozbargainers I reffered!
I told them to F themself after a month of back and foward calls and email and them saying unless i gave them photocopies of their drivers licenses, they wouldn't honour jack..
I told them, i will not post a deal for them again, nor anyone I know personally or my self will shop through them again.

  • If you access the groupon deal through shopandmint.com,will you get an additional 6% cash back?

Because that would change things a bit.

    • It excludes gift cards but I think it is possible that you might be able to "get away" with getting the cashback maybe 10% of the time. I recall it working in the early days (buying GCs on Groupon through CashRewards for cashback) but I think they clamped down on it.

  • Wouldn't a benefit of this deal be that you could stack the cashback offer for Groupon?

    EDIT: just saw reply above.

  • -1

Why do I get the feeling OP appears to be scrounging for referral credits with that last sentence.. lol

    • -1

Thanks for reminding me to thank those who used my referral link

  • -2

That's an actual improvement of attitude considering most people wouldn't realise how desperate those words sounded.
