        • Does the $40 data share SIM have unlimited calls, and the main SIM only have $1000 worth of calls?

        • @pood:

Sounds right but you have to check Telstra website to verify.

  • +1

I see optus and voda up the ante with more data…..optus 8gb $50 plan ends on 5th Nov…I see an extension of deal or say 10gb for $50 plan coming up

  • *del found the answer by reading lol

  • +1

Would this qualify for the free 12 months Apple music?

    • I was just about to ask the same thing. I'm currently with Nodemobile paying $30 a month for only 2GB of data, although I barely ever get close to it, but having Apple music for free I could see my data usage going up a fair bit. For an extra $3 a month (effectively) this deal could be well worth it, especially with the better coverage.

      • The 12 month apple music deal finishes on the 1/11/15

        • +1

Oh really? God damn it. So even if I signed up now. I wouldn't get the offer.

That makes this deal a lot less attractive now.. :-(

        • +1

          @Porthos: Expires 11:59:00PM 1/11/2015

        • @minMaxRNG:
Hmm.. So it doesn't have to be activated by then though?

My Nodemobile just flicked over to a new month, so kinda wanted to wait till near the end of November before signing up with Telstra. Guess I may just have to bite the bullet and sign up in the morning.

          Cheers.

        • @Porthos: Yeah it does, through MyAccount. But what you do is find a rep who will tell you as long as you sign up by then, you will receive the Apple Music promotion. Then, when they don't give it to you, you can quote the reference number and demand it.

        • Hmm. the person on the live chat said it'd include it…so will see how that plays out.

        • Hmm. the person on the live chat said it'd include it…so will see how that plays out. Signed up today (11/11/2015)

    • Great deal - thanks OP just ported over from virgin on a $19p/m 2.3gb plan which I thought i'd never leave

In regards to apple music, from my understanding and having spoken to Telstra customer service, is not available with this plan.

She said that the terms and conditions specified that it would be removed within a limited time from the sign up options, so had it been available it would have been one of bonus products included in your checkout basket.

I was also a bit confused with the two 3 month complimentary data share sims which show up as an extra $80 per month and are included in my 12 month minimum charge. Telstra said that this was correct and that you will not be charged for the first 3 months and you have the option of cancelling at the end of the 3 months and not incur any extra charges for the data share sims over the 12 months.

      • +2

I have spoken with two telstra reps now and they have both said that Apple Music is applicable with this plan?

It doesn't show up as a bonus product in your basket, it shows up under your offers after you have made an account and signed up.

Will just have to wait and see I guess.

        • Yeah, I hope you're right - definitely going to try it.
I was telling the service rep to try and add it to my account now because people have been saying it expires today but I haven't seen the expiry date anywhere on the telstra deal.

        • +2

@cy321: Store reps just said as long as you sign up to the plan by tonight, you will still be eligible for the 12 month subscription as this offer expires tonight. Got my fingers crossed :)

        • @ShamelessBargains: does 'signing up' include your order being confirmed? (credit check, etc), or is just placing the order good enough?

      • i wouldnt have left that plan…

the telstra plan is 7gb for 12 mths… after which looks like it reverts back to 2.5gb? (not really clear… but the way its worded)

but who knows in 12mths time a better plan would likely come along.

  • its really great plan if u dont have anyone living overseas.
i am with optus getting unlimited calls, sms and 8Gb of data every month for $40 with 300 min overseas call. i think I'll keep it.

  • If you're planning on moving over from Boost please go instore to do this deal. I tried moving mine online - took five weeks of running around. Painful.

    • I think this is online only. NO welcome credit and bonus 2gb instore.

  • very good deal!

  • +1

Telstra are actually offering an incentive to go on a 12 month plan. Previously 12 month and month-month plans were the same

  • +1

I'm guessing 3 second flagfall will cost $1 each time (so if you have a lot of people with answering services get ready to be screwed!). Good deal compared with standard pricing. Good if you are small-medium user (but then you might be looking at cheaper options). About a half an hour worth of calls a day any extra and more $$$ I'm guessing.

  • Whats the best way to convert a Telstra pre-paid phone to this plan AND keep the same number?
Just convert it to a vodaphone pre-paid and then back to Telstra?

    • Yes. I've found that porting in and out of Vodafail works best.

      • It didn't work well for me. I'm with Telstra now, but for some strange reason, I can't receive SMS or calls from Vodafone numbers. I can call or text them but not the other way around. I called Vodafone and they had no clue to why either. It's the only network my number has trouble with :(

  • +1

Thought I'd sign in to share my success.

I am currently on the Telstra Medium Plan $55 dollars for 3.5GB data.
First of all I chatted with customer support (Queue was 41 people deep), customer support suggested this offer would not be available to me because I am not a new customer, however, I could port away for a day and port back If I wanted to…yuck!

I spoke to the sales team, the sales team live chat is a different team al together. You can chat to these guys by going to the Telstra Mobile Plans page and clicking 'Chat now'. I connected immediately, it's actually very easy to miss the Chat now but it's on the right top side. Spoke to James, made mention of my intention to move into the 7GB plan. Any transfer fees as a loyal Telstra customer would be waived. Requested to make a note on my account, and sent the transcript to my email.

So yes, you can transfer from Telstra - obviously don't expect the $200 welcome credit.

Just note, you automatically get signed up to a free $40 second share sim for three months even if you click no to the offer, you will get charged after 3 months. The benefit of leaving it active is you get an extra 1.1gb of data. You must cancel this with the customer service if you do not wish to proceed, and not the sales team.

All-in-all I will be paying a cheaper rate with more data.

    • You actually get signed up for 2 data share sims which have 3 months free access. Need to cancel them before the 3 months otherwise they keep going at $40 per month

      • I suggested that I did as well, he said no it should be only one despite it showing two..haha ahhhh Telstra :)

    • You're lucky, am an existing $55/month 3.5gb, spoke to a consultant they wouldnt do it. Then their supervisor had no idea about the deal, tried to find James on the chat later but they said nobody with that name is there, but again they said it's only for new customers. Even with me telling them its $140 contract break but they'll be giving me $200 back anyway so just switch me now and save the $60 they wouldnt do it. Oh well, off to Telstra store tomorrow to port to prepaid then 1 sec later back to contract, Telstra are an absolute joke, literally dozens of issues over the years never ever resolved!

      • +1

Dont port to Telstra prepaid! People saying coming from telstra prepaid to this plan is not a "new" customer.

      • They said they would transfer me mate. Try them again. I said I just wanted to update my plan to the 7gb $50 one.

        • I have tried a twice without luck. I am currently on their BYO plan $45/month with 2gb from their previous offer for 12 months. My contract expiry is March 2016. They won't budge and give me their standard response "only for new customer porting their numbers across to Telstra".

        • @he88388: I'm on a 24month contract that came with an iPhone 5. Still have 12 months on the contract remaining. They said I could change plans. Have to pay out for the phone I got though, they will waive the the plan payout.
          Have screenshot.

        • @Jarr0d: They are ok with changing plan with no penalty but I will only get 2.5gb Data not 7gb Data. 7gb Data is only for new numbers porting to Telstra. What a joke.

  • This plan also includes 12 month subscription of Apple Music making it an even better deal. Just confirmed with chat :)

Then go get your bonus 500MB data per month at this link https://www.telstra.com.au/applemusic/500mb-bonus-data-offer - Takes 36 hours to activate

      Credit: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/215999

      • Will do! This will bring offer up to 7.5GB of data which is incredible value for $21.33 per month after $200 welcome credit and $144 Apple Music 12 month subscription.

        • Are you able to sell the Apple music subscription separately or is it linked to the account? I have an android.

        • @plasmapuff: It is linked to your account unforunately, Apple Music is coming to Android eventually.

    • do you have to ask chat to activate this, or is it available to anyone just signing up on everyones individual telstra account page?

      • Should be available under My Offers page.

        • Just contacted Telstra and they said that the apple music deal expires on 01/11/15 :(

        • +1

@harro son: oh that's a pity, I hope they renew it.

From Telstra's Apple Music FAQs :

I have purchased a new phone on a new contract but I do not have my new phone or sim yet. When is my Apple Music account active?
Your Apple Music account will be active once you activate your new sim. This is generally when you receive your new phone. You will receive an sms confirming your Apple Music subscription is active.

How can you get the SIM delivered and activate it BEFORE midnight tonight ?!?

BTW does it actually state anywhere that the deal ends tonight, or is everybody just going by the word of a single Telstra chat conversation?
I have been told many wrong things in chat before ;-)

        • +1

@oz-dave: Most evidence points to the fact that you will not be eligible. What you should do is contact live chat until they tell you you will be eligible, then get a reference number and quote it when they don't give it to you.

        • +1

          @minMaxRNG:

Sounds like a good plan :-)

        • +1

@oz-dave: I just talked to a rep after being unable to create an online account. Apparently it is only the 24 month apple music that expires today, and the 12 month one has no expiry. He also said that they can add it to your account over the online chat or phone, so it should be fine :)

  • -8

It's an Alright deal.. doesn't beat the previous Vodafone and Optus deals posted on here though .. similar pricing/higher data plans/international calling/no contract. The 500mb + 1 yr Apple Music is good if you have an iPhone.. which not all of us do. Some argue Telstras' network is better, but for me, in my area of testing Vodafone/Optus is just as good. And to me, $200 Welcome Credit forces me to use the credit that isn't really free money, so I would still see it as $50 per month not $33.

    • +1

It's $200 applied to your account to pay your bill (4 months) not $200 added to your cap. So $400 over 12 months = $33.33 a month.

    • +1

$33 pm effectively so this is a better deal plus better network

  • Currently on prepaid with telstra. The rep in the online chat said I could still get this new BYO plan, but without the $200 welcome credit.

I'm wondering if its worth porting out to vodafone with a $2 sim, then porting back to get the $200 credit? Only problem is that I currently have like $80 credit on prepaid, so would I lose it when porting out, or do they refund you?

    • I'm thinking of doing this, porting to Vodafone or Optus and then porting back to Telstra. I'm the same, I have about $140 of prepaid credit. Apparently you can purchase albums and movies off the google play store using Telstra credit. Not sure how it works though. A Telstra consultant told me this. I'm not sure if it would get refunded if you left though.

    • They won´t refund you. either buy google pay appss, or subscription (PIA, evernote, etc), books, music or anything that you need/want from google play store

  • +1

Should note that the bonus data offer lasts until 31/12, however $200 welcome credit finishes on 13/12 (unless withdrawn earlier, of course).

    • Good pick up. Important for those of us making the most of the credit/contract period ending.

    • Where does it say that? I'm trying to find that out now

      • Can't seem to find anything on the website, but it's there on the order confirmation email - http://i.imgur.com/3i4KiVQ.jpg

        • so effectively will be 5GB data from January onwards

        • +3

@kev98: No I just talked to a rep, the data lasts the life of the plan. The expiry bangbang is referring to is the last day you can apply for this deal.

        • @Cam:

I think he means once the offer is finished not for customers which have already taken it up.

      • +1

Im wondering if it is a typo. Instead of 31 they wrote 13

  • Went to my local JB yesterday and moved over to this plan from my pre paid service. Too easy.

    • Did you get $200 welcome credit?

    • +1

No unfortunately, because I moved from a Telstra no lock in contract plan.

  • If you need that amount of data there is nothing cheaper (thanks to $200) very good deal op.

  • it's time to dump those plans with just 1 or 2GB data included.
port to Optus for a day and sign up to this.
this is the best use of optus, signing up to telstra's new customer plans

  • As a current Boost customer, does this mean that I'm ineligible for the bonuses of this deal because I won't be a seen as a New Customer?

    • Port to voda for a day and port back

    • Was just on live chat with a Telstra representative - at first they told me that I was ineligible as a Boost customer for the online bonuses, but then they double checked and as of today, Boost customers are eligible for the bonus 4.5gb and $200 credit. Might want to double check with online chat and save a copy of the transcript just in case anything happens.

  • Good plan if you use a lot of data. But if you make a lot of overseas calls, stick to the prepaid plans where you can use the call credit for these calls.

  • Telstra's shop is officially dead @ 11:00am 1/11/2015.

    My order has failed :(

edit: 11am no more special offers when i am signing up online holy shit

    • worked for me, try a diff browser

    • and me.

You successfully freaked me out though and I quickly signed up

      • I can't sign up at all. Just keeps dying after I press place order securely. Tried 3 different internets 4 different browsers. Telstra's site is getting hammered. Our telecommunications provider in Australia can't keep their website up :(

edit: but I did ask live chat and aslong as you sign up before 31 Dec you get the bonus + credit, so I got plenty of time I guess.

Take 7, finally got the confirmation email, but the page I ended up at was 404 anyway.
Just read the email. It says: So 13 Dec 2015
        Bonus Data - 2GB
An extra 2GB of data per month now yours. All to use in Australia.
Offer runs 30 October 2015 to 31 December 2015 unless withdrawn earlier by Telstra.

        $200 Welcome Credit
If you're a new customer & you sign up online, you'll get a $200 credit on your bill when you sign up with us on selected plans.
Offer runs 30 October 2015 to 13 December 2015 unless withdrawn earlier by Telstra.

  • Is it possible to port out (optus, voda, or else) and port back to Telstra today? to take advantage of this and the Apple music deal?

I am guessing that it will take longer than a day.

    • +1

I just tried to port my number to optus (from telstra) and it says it can only be done during business hours and for a window on Saturday. it looks like today won't happen but we'll see!

      • +6

UPDATE: Porting successful, took about 30mins to Optus (started process 12:30pm today, active by 1:00pm)

I've just signed up for the Telstra deal and all offers were active (bonus data 2gb and 2.5gb plus $200 welcome credit). Order confirmed, waiting for SIM which should arrive tomorrow.

2PM UPDATE: Chatting with 24x7 chat and they confirmed that SIM will be delivered tomorrow and that orders today qualify for the Apple Music offer. Also confirmed there is no downtime when porting; as soon as the Telstra SIM is activated, the service is up and running.

        • When you say all offers were active (bonus data and $200 welcome credit), was this shown in the sign up screens before you completed the order? i.e. Did they provide a review page confirming your offers before you hit "complete/process order"?

          Thanks.

        • +1

@tof: the bonus offers show up on the last step before you review your order

  • For current Telstra customers out of contract you are NOT eligible for the bonus data. Firstly I went in store and spoke with a helpful Telstra staff member (rare I know) and he basically said there is no way Telstra will give you the bonus data unless you have not been a customer for 6 or more months. So there goes the plan of those thinking of porting their number over to a Voda $2 sim and porting back. I was not entirely convinced with this answer so I came home and tried to sign up online, and when I got to check-out the bonus data was not an option for me, and I have been out of contract for 2 years.

As always this was just my experience with Telstra someone else may have better lucl. However I also went on to the 24/7 Chat and spoke with Carlos who told me the bonus data is online only, if it is not available at checkout you're ineligible. so those who think they can call and talk their way into it, good luck.

    • +1

thanks jesse085, just to be clear though, did you try to port out first?

      • Nope, I did not try to port out first. But it looks like if you do port out you can come across (as below). I just had another go at Telstra this time arguing the fact that I am a "re-contracting customer" they would not budge and refused to allow me access to the bonus data. I am thinking of making a formal complaint with their complaints department.

    • +1

I ported to voda 2 months ago and just ported back. I got the welcome credit and bonus data in my order

    • -2

Can confirm this, current Telstra customer on a $55/month plan with another 6 months on the contract, will NOT offer the 4.5GB extra, and have a policy in place that you are not considered a 'new' customer unless you have not been a Telstra customer for more than 6 months

  • Did the special offers get removed ?? I was in the process of signing up and after I finalised the order it came up with 404 page and when I tried again I cant see the bonus data anymore D:

    • There was a small technical glitch which meant some people didn't see the offer in the checkout. If you clear your cache that should take care of it. Whilst we fix this …

  • +1

Just signed up. Great deal thanks OP. The first time in the 13 years of owning a mobile that Telstra has been affordable for me.

  • Does having a prepaid data sim count as being an existing Telstra customer for these purposes ?

EDIT: this is an additional service I have just for data - my primary service is with Amaysim, so I am not a "customer" for mobile phone services.

    • +1

      No

      • Weird. I can't see it in "Special Offers" part when I try and sign up - it just shows 2x data sims for $40.

This is what I see when I try & checkout: http://imgur.com/F1RIeNb

        • Weird, prepaid data share sims should be free (i.e. total cost per month of $50), and on top of that under special offers it should have $200 welcome credit, 2.5GB bonus data and another 2GB bonus data.

  • Just wondering whether any one who is currently out of contract with Telstra and has ported their number to another sim then ported back again to Telstra has had success with this? I just don't want to do the whole porting thing if I'm not going to get the offer.
