    • I was told try again on the weekend

My experience was staff only knew item is significantly reduced when someone asks them to scan it.

Local store manager was stunned to find large TV was reduced by almost $1000. She did her impression of a fish, gulped, & said let them have it. She had not seen any quit stock list.

I asked if various items were reduced, was told the ticketed price was it, but insisted they scan it. Ticketed $549 Blue-Ray / DVD burner / 500GB PVR scanned at $80. They couldn't believe it, but I bought it ;-)

  • 50% off christmas lights in Richmond might be state wide I'm not sure..

    • yeah been in every store.

    Picked up a Canon EOS 1100D Twin Lens Kit (1100D Camera Body + EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III Lens + EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Lens) for $199

    • which store?

      • Mandurah, WA

    • +1

      Me too yesterday

  • Looking for 500 GB+ PVR that supports netflix - preferably with wifi for ~$50
    Bluray would be a bonus
Anyone found anything to match this?

  • brisbane-

indooroopilly apparently was the only old store with cheap tv's.

carindale had a few tv's $500 off, but still over $1k

Apple all gone except 2 iMacs - floor stock and reduced by $200 or so.

    :-/

    • You wouldn't know if Carindale had any more PS4s left?

      • sorry i just saw this! i hadn't seen them. i hope you had some luck?

  • +6

Went to Canberra's, asked about the MB Air and Pros, was told they only had the ones on display and these weren't for/on sale. Asked about the cameras, 1200d with lens 459 (100 off sticker price) but that's a rip off price - got one as a gift from HN 6 months ago for 300.

The sales rep was trying to escape the obligation to do a price check. I had to explicitly ask and insist on the price 3 times before he gave it (first dodged the question by saying the sticker price may scan lower, then dodged it again by saying you need to bring in the item to check the price, then third by claiming there's no stock despite seeing a couple of boxes in the cabinet).

He also claimed the d3300 was not in stock even though the box was there SEALED. Then he claimed the cameras are missing the lenses! He refused to give a price.

Shoddy experience, total waste of time.

    • +1

Ye, I was just there too. (I probably saw you :P) Shocking experience overall, not that I expected much from those guys.

Some of the cameras actually are missing lenses though. I asked a guy about it so he physically checked it and there was only the body inside.

  • got the last Xbox one Diable game for $1 (Chatswood)

    No TV deals left :(

  • WTF IS WRONG WITH DICK SMITH? LG 55" SMART TV FOR LESS THAN $60??? IS THIS EVEN REAL?!

    • Where?

  • I'm sure DS in altona gate have great stocks available but I doubt it if you will get any special as advertised.
It would be great if DS let me go online for Click and Collect. That way I can rely item belong to me.

    • Yeah, Altona staff was trying to be nice but apparently they tried to avoid providing price, got told the Note 3 was for Vodafone contract only and didn't sell it outright for me while it's in fact $330

  • +2

ROCCAT KULO Virtual 7.1 Surround Sound USB Gaming Headset: $24 down from $80 seemed decent.

    • That's a great buy!

  • Thanks, snagged a LG 55" UHD from Maddington!

  • What model were the 65" Samsung tv and how much did people pay? Thank you in advance!

  • Ipad air smart covers are $5. These should work for air 2 as well.

Ipad mini and mini 3 covers are $5. They should all work for mini 1 to 3.

Ipad air 2 smart case some are $5, some still full price.

  • +1

This is outstanding OP, got to be deal of the year. I just managed to snap up a 50" JVC for $200. I know a lot of people bag out DSE but I've always found their staff friendly and helpful, the manager at my local store even spent 30 minutes today helping me find a remote on his day off.

  • Was at DSE Watergardens at 2PM today.

There were TVs in stock but not at the crazy clearance prices people have been buying it for.

I asked a staff member to scan it and he said it was showing up at it's normal price. Not sure if he was bullshitting and hoarding it for himself later, but he did mention his manager told him that "whatever the price is on the ticket is the final price."

Also wanted some soundbars. The LG soundbars were apparently scanning at their original price, even though they're dirt chap on the clearance price list.

PS4 games were $20. Couldn't find much else that had a crazy price except a 21.5 inch Samsung monitor for $79, but there was no stock left.

Was there yesterday, there was a display model Olympus PL3 SLR camera with a ticket price of $248. It scanned for $99. Passed it up because I realized it's an old camera. Not worth it.

Also, the staff were polite and friendly even though there were customers asking the same question on almost every product "Is this the actual price? Can you scan it and see what the price is?"

    Dicksmith Roselands - NSW
No Stock - did all the right things asked him about sale items and to check system - said everythings gone no stock. Asked about the SLRs + PS3 - he said PS3 is available checked computer then another guy came and heard him muttering - came back and said no stock. Very suss - kid wouldnt look me in the eye when he spoke - either retarded or lying. Pretty sure the staff are holding stock and selling themselves.
Want to go back and get names.

    • Can say that when the big Game clearance was on years ago Roselands was terrible with staff keeping it all out the back. It was only until I went back and a diff staff member was on they checked out the back and said yep we have heaps of stock and I managed to grab a console.

  • so many dicks being a dick…feels sorry for u guys that didnt get the deal, im one of those unlucky ones n have enough with them.

  • Went to DS Burwwod and David Jones Burwood Westfield, Sydney.. Nothings there. No discounts. I've asked them for the list, they said whatever list you have or on clearance are all old models or last year models which they don't have stock. Looks like tomorrow there will one more sale.. I'm seeing many stickers As Advertised for Blue ray, GPS and Portable drives.

  • Got the last two Harmony Ultimate Hub remotes from Stocklands, there were none at Castletown.

  • Spent two hours up at Bondi Junction ended up with nothing. Staff were good though. They told me people with trolleys came through about an hour before I got there and snapped up five-ten TVs. People are going from store to store brodening it seems. Staff members were lucky enough to get on, one snagging a Samsung 50" for $69 ;) :P. I think I knew one of the staff members from school (not the person who bought the $69 TV) and he let me look at the screen of available and allocated stock. Cleared out nearly completely. Only TVs that were left were near full price or $1200 (old price $1800 etc.).

Real FOMO at the moment as I have been searching for a UHD TV for the last year. I ended up getting a price review for a 55" Sony that was on sale for $1200 but I that unit is three years old (1st Q 2013 base model 4k unit). I will only get it if it's $400 or below. Someone purchased a Sony camera for $197 (reduced from $597 I think). Another person picked up a refurbished 2013 13" MacBook Pro for $799. A fair few disappointed faces looking for iPhones or iPads.

Also I don't want to get the staff member in trouble because it seemed like employee only purchased one TV and I don't know maybe a friend bought it on spec. They didn't seem shifty like some of the other three stores I went to today.

  • +1

Still a couple of white LG G2 mobiles at Shellharbour, NSW this afternoon. ~$134 each

  • Staff at my local store lied about the price of a clearance item. JVC TV price is $599 regularly and he said it was $899, however it should be on clearance for $59.90. It was also pretty nicely hidden, so I'm sure he was shocked when I saw it and asked for a price and made up it was $899.

    • There are actually (at least) 3 JVC 50 inch models in stores. One is still $899, one is $209 and one is $59.

  • Just got iPhone 5c 32 gb at chatswood NSW for $299 not sure a bargain or not

    • I picked one up. 32GBs are discontinued but 16GBs have been selling for $500 until recently. Pretty good deal I think.

  • +1

6pm most stores have now shut. Envy all those grabbing deals while I'm at work.

    Looking forward to Day 3

  • utter shit.
    Pure shit

    lack of stock was retarded
and i am in a regiona city, where no one even knew a sale was on.
Went in for deals on tablet
    DSE salesmen
OH we GREAT DEALS ON TAB A 9.7 sir. me.. ahh cool how much…DSE 389 with 20 percent off. so that 389 with 20 percent off? no sir thats total price… im like u know its 339 right now at bigw with no naggling right.lol

TVs where pretty good though. to bad got a new 65 sony last year
did pick up couple of copys of Bf4 on pc for 8.99 each so cant fault that(now to use hacks lol)
skylnaders on sale if u after cheap pressy.

    my store had
HTC ONE M8s foe 169 though thats pretty good.
and Huawei mate 7s for 340 thos (profanity) are 599 so thats a good deal.

but im waiting for the G5 so gotta pass

otherwise i dont see why they bother
they still chargin 259 for a nexux 7 when good guys has then for 199 almost all the time.
asking the manager what ticket sales where was pointless whenthere is no stock lol

Reading that gave me a headache…

Does DSE sell punctuation marks and coherent English?

      • +3

        yeah 2 points.
        english is my 3rd language.
and im half drunk from work party this arvo cut me slack.

        • +1

Well at least you had a nice arvo

  • +2

    I hit up a few stores Bne, still some discrepancies in what peeps say and was listed to what's at some stores;
    Springfield/Redbank

The 'Gxx' mouse spoke of here (don't remember the model) - still full price. Nathan drake ps4 - still full price. And Springfield didn't know and 'no it's full price or what's on the ticket' comments.

Still all in all. Good going by the staff everywhere to put up with OZB'ers.

Managed to score a few games and a remote.

    • did you find anything at Redbank? I spent an hour asking/wandering around in the store and all i got was "it's what's on the ticket and no clearance whatsoever"

      • Only some ps4 games. Not many left and a harmony ultimate that had been returned 'not suitable' but it will be returned tomorrow with 'was broken in box and doesn't charge'

There was one to left at 1230pm - Samsung 65" $3800 to $1500.
Now I thought that some of the mice and ps4 accessories were on special too. But no soap.

  • Is it any surprise they're going under?

  • Will these deals continue on tomorrow or do they go back up in price and different products go on sale tomorrow.

    • +1

You'd think all the stock for popular items are gone regardless, so makes little difference. There was obviously extremely low stock to begin with as well and where some stock existed, jerks buy all of it for resell.

      • There's still the home and kitchen appliances which are yet to come on sale. Maybe they are next.

        • Yes of course, other product categories will likely follow in the next few days :)

  • +2

Kudos to Staff at Dick Smith Cannington and Phoenix. They were really helpful, especially the Phoenix Dick Smith.

Managed to get a Macbook Pro Retina (ex-demo) half price for $800.

Macbook air's as someone posted previously are available for $400, but they are busted. These are the latest models. If you are keen to fix them up yourself, you can buy them. They do not come with Warranty. They have about 3 in stock ATM.

Managed to get xbox one assassins creed bundle for $150 and a Razer mouse pad for $12 at Dick Smith Phoenix. Was the last xbox in stock, surprised as no one had picked it up yet.

Overheard one of the Dick Smith Gateway guys saying that he managed to get the titanfall bundle. But this was at the end of the day.

Dick Smith phoenix also has heaps of g500 and a couple of headsets marked from $150 to $28. They also have the logitech gran turismo steering wheels for $40 and PS Vita games for $5

Overall really impressed with the customer service from Dick Smith Cannington and Phoenix. Just wish I had gone to Dick Smith Fremantle as they had heaps of stock - missed out on the $100 ipad.

I thought that all Dick Smith's stocked ipad and macbooks and ended up at the wrong one at 9 AM lol.

Also, Dick Smith Livingston had the titanfall bundle as of this morning.

    • +1

People seem a bit slow in Perth compared to Melb and Syd! Wish I lived in WA :P

  • Damn only just saw this. Is this only available today?

  • Got the last D3200/lens set from Rhodes on my lunch break yesterday after rushing my girlfriend out to Mt Druitt (none there or in Penrith).

She was distraught that she couldn't find one after calling everywhere and got annoyed at me for getting her excited only to ruin her morning. That changed when I surprised her with the one I'd found :D

Just wanna say thanks to everyone who didnt trolley up to resell :)

  • David Jones Marion still had an Ipad Air 1St Gen 64Gb cellular for $399.

  • +1

I got the Samsung HD8500a 3DBluray with 500gb pvr from the Emporium store in Melbourne CBD for $90. Bargain considering JB is selling for $366.

    • I got the same deal at Midland, also a 40" LG UHD TV for $260. Not bad.

    • Yup I got the same deal at Eastlands Ringwood as well. (Samsung 8500 for $89.xx)The store had already closed but the DSE guy was outside having a break before going back in to set up for tomorrow. He let me in and since I was the only customer he let me go through all the specials, great guy. He was surprised the PVRs were on special. I also bought a 500gb LG display unit PVR for $29.

They had already sold out of all cheap TVs and don't carry any MacBooks so I missed out there.

He said they put on extra staff for today and were still swamped by calls and customers. But he did say that most people were very polite and waited patiently to be served.

  • attempted twice today, no stock (TVs) in DS Brighton or Southland unfortunately. The remaining were also on sale but not that great.

    • Did you see any handsets there at all?

  • Went to Toombul Qld store. Happy staff but short on stock, Though I did buy for what it is worth a Dick Smith 47cm Tv for kithcen under $60. They would not let newer boxed set clear insisting $119 would be real price. The one I purchased was the last [?] unopend box with one left with TV on top of box situated in the walkway lol. Their brand cable 70% off but no time to view

    • Yeah they were nice in there… no stock. Got a remote though. :)

    • +1

Any PS4s left? Thinking about checking them out tomorrow

      • Yeah did not see too many consoles left.. they dont have a big selection there.

        • mmm thanks for the heads up. Wondering if I should try get in at 9am or just go after work in the late evening. Shame they aren't open earlier.

        • mini store in that Centre, the store at Indro Cento [ not shopping centre] has some stock of things left ie portable phone charges , security items, toys.

      • You may find it worthwhile to wait until the Star Wars/PS4 special offer comes. I understand (after speaking with an assistant at EB Games) that the Bobba Fett character (for the Disney Infinity 3.0 game) is only available with this offer. This item will therefore not be available for XBox or WiiU gamers, unless we buy one on eBay. It should fetch a good price if you would like to sell it. Some time back I noticed these were classified as rare … with a price to match … from the US. We would like to buy Bobba Fett too … but we don't want to buy a PS4 to get one!

  • +1

So are the prices going to continue to drop on items already at clearance price until sold? Or are they just going to continue to add items to the clearance?

    • +1

That's what I'm wondering. Will they liquidate their current inventory and re-assess their business position? Is this what 'wait until Saturday' means? Wouldn't mind buying an early 2015 $3000 UHD for $700…

      • +2

I'm thinking it may be too risky to wait considering stock levels.

        • +1

Right, considering people are emptying their wallets like there's no tomorrow I wouldn't be holding my breath for any so-called specials either.

        • +1

@KaptnKaos: I'm not waiting, there is no stock left of any clearance TVs in my area. Ex-display, refurb, any stock. Nil nada zilch. Only TVs on 30% (approx) specials that were $2400 etc. but they are slightly more recent base model 4ks/FHDs. There are more recent 10 month old TVs in stock but none was clearance stock (one was $3499). I'm not waiting, I'm hoping they extend clearance store-wide on TVs (70%-80%) on Saturday (from just the selected models at the moment). Or at least clear all store display models. That is my only chance of scoring a TV deal. I wish they had limited it to one per person per store.

        • +6

@juzz0: I agree. Buyers who go in a load up with 10 TVs should be banned; it's obvious they are for resale. One per customer sounds like a fairer approach.

        • @juzz0:
It would make sense to clear the old stock first and then clear the new stock.

        • @juzz0: I asked today in my only DSE about the tvs and he said the ticketed price was the price, and they weren't massively discounted unfortunately :(

      • +1

From the looks of what they're offloading, it wouldn't be unlikely that they could try to adjust their market position to reduce competition with the likes of JB. Entertainment gear is flying out the door. Maybe time to go back to good ol electronics, gadgets and computer wares. JB are pretty hopeless at their computer presence. A heap of gimmicky stuff on display and very few experts in home computing. They'd do well to expand their DSLR range too… very few JBs stock anything more than entry level bundles and basic lenses. Dickies could do well to market themselves to be 'the JB for your parents'. Slightly higher price point for those with a disposable income.

        • We usually enjoy a visit to JB and come home with a few treats. Only thing that I find annoying there is that i like to buy bulk decent brand DVD-R and DVD-RW discs and I only find the one brand (cannot recall name) available. My Panasonic DVD recorder is getting fussy with quality of discs so I prefer to buy a good brand. Would have thought JB would be the best place to buy discs. Quite often I find no stock available too. Are they really that outdated?

  • +1

Looks like DJs Wollongong offloaded all of their discounted stuff to DS down the road. Picked up the Epson EB-S18 Projector for $229, down from $599. Older model, superceded by the slightly brighter S31.

Also got display stock LG Bluray Player BP240 for $23.99. Again, older model.

  • +2

Got Shadows of Mordor for $10 for the master race PC, none of the console peasant crap :P

Also a Dicky Smith 28" LCD HD TV for $20, cant really complain, using it as a 2nd monitor to watch movies LOL

  • +1

Had a OK experience today but after picking up some more games I went to another store and found another game. Staf member couldn't locate it in the tray. another member piped up went out back and fetched it. No staff stach my a.s.s.

  • +3

Went into my local DSE and saw an ozbargainer abusing a staff kid because they didn't have any clearance cheap TV's under $60. What a douche.

Guessing a sale like guess brings out all kinds of people. Part of the reason I would never do a garage sale again. All sorts of weirdos banging on my door at 6am wanting first dibs at anything cheap and swearing at me when I won't accept their cheapskate offers.

    • How do you know it was an ozbargainer?

      • True. every abuser is ozbargainer now.

      • Thats what I was wondering myself.
Did they say, "but on OzBargain it says…"

      • He literally said he saw the bargains on ozbargainer to the kid…demanded he call every store to locate a particular TV…

        • Fair enough. What a douche

        • +2

@Vinniejster: i think the people like this aren't the regular ozbargain crowd. They're the people who follow ozbargain on facebook and only see the pages that make it there.

        • @Matt P: More than likely

        • @Matt P:

Oh yeah its not the norm. Lots of good people on here.

  • If there is someone anywhere near SEQ/Brisbane area who has picked up an extra TV could you please PM me and sell me one :( any size brand. I will pray to god for your eternal happiness….

  • +1

I went to two different stores today at 9am and 9:30am - they had no idea, couldn't help me with any of it, spoke to 2 staff at each store.
They said no information had come through to them about the sales - something dodgy going on at some stores.

    • +1

You realize it's probably just shit communication from their bosses/head office

    • The trick was to ask them to scan prices. They had other stuff yesterday for sale so did not have a chance yet to put signs up first thing.

      • I did that for one thing and they said it was still full price, can't remember if they scanned it or just looked it up. I wish I had more time but had to get to work, I didn't expect them to be so uninformed. There were about 10 people at each store trying to get the clearance items and the staff didn't know anything or what to do, so unfortunately I had to leave instead of picking more items and checking prices. People were pointing to their phones and catalogues but having trouble getting what was advertised.

  • +2

Day 3.. The worst is yet to come

  • Asked empiorium if they had anything else left on special including Blu Ray etc an they said no moral is ask them to scan

Weird that a guy wearing a Samsung shirt was helping un box tvs and then stood around for a while

    • He is a DSE employee.
