I think the whole problem with the DSE model is that the only time its reasonable to buy there is when the razor gang is in. I mean my only purchases from there are the 20% ebay deals or random fire sales. They count on Joe Schmuck to go in and buy something 30% dearer than other retailers normal price. Unfortunately the generations have moved on and the Joe schmucks have been, well dying off. Shoppers are a little bit smarter nowadays. This fire sale will not help. I dont want to pay more than $500 for a UHD TV now…

    • Exactly yes - they charge too much most of the time, then discount the hell out of it and make no money.
Instead of marking up 300%, then slashing 70% off for a clearance, why not markup 50% and sell a ton more!
I've bought a few things from DSE, but usually REALLY cheap clearances, almost never their normal price - its a stupid old retailer habit from the 80s, before the dawn of the internet when people lookup prices on their phone.

    • i could say the same about heaps of other retailers. they just can't get away with ripping consumers off as easily as they could in the past. nor should they expect our sympathy when they're "doing it tough" because of management's poor choices

  • There is a panasonic 60a430 at emporium
on display but it's "sold" apparently. Marketing scam and dodgy employees means no chance of a bargain.

    • If it was sold, ummm… it wouldn't be there.

      • My thoughts exactly

        • Maybe to save space as the backroom is cramped with paid for orders waiting pickup/delivery? But yes it does seem a bit off. There were many TVs on display that didn't look sold (but apparently were) at the last store I went to. One $3899 Panasonic for $1072 for instance.

    • don't get me started on their dodgy employees. I still have a bitter taste over the G27 a few years ago!

Anyway I popped into one yesterday, the staff were on the computer looking up skylanders, one said to the other you'll be able to get it from there.

I went into a different store late yesterday afternoon, and wondered why on earth all the iPad displays were empty with cables hanging out. Todays sale explains that.

I also noticed no display TomToms yesterday. Were they on sale today as well?

  • Anyone have recipt for the gopro ?

  • Dam missed this, I take it there are barely anything left by now i take it people went past the stores with trucks buying 10 or more tv's a time..

  • +3

My friend went to 3 stores today and came home with nothing, he told me all about it. He felt that staff in all of the stores were hiding stock out the back as when they checked stock on the clearance TVs, all 3 stores had 4 to 7 of the very cheap TVs showing up on their systems. However when he asked to buy them, they kind of looked at each other and said that must be a computer error, or that they actually aren't on 'clearance' yet the prices were very low!

    • Did he go after lunch. In the morning I went to about 5 stores and plenty of stuff was available macs, phones etc.

    • One of the sales guys in DS Bondi had kept a brand new boxed 50inch LED for $249 for one of his mates in the back.

I was there when his mate got there and he was high fiving him and hugging him lol

Thank you TA and thank you OZ Bargain, over the last few days I have picked some great bargains and saved $100's, like many times throughout the year, this site once again has proven to be a great resource with great feedback from the community, While I understand people can get upset not finding any deals for themselves, I don't understand any of the negativity or entitlement people feel they deserve. Having worked in retail myself I know things can get frustrating, but this is part of the game, obviously some people will have different luck with different store locations, once again this is part of the process. The both days that I went to DSE were late and had success, yes some deals were harder to find but I looked hard, asked staff and stayed patient even when they weren't aware themselves. Let's remember it's a clearance sale with limited and old stock being sold, yet people are getting annoyed when there is no stock or lack off, once again I understand your frustration but not the negativity, remember most people here would not know these deals were on if not for this site & group members. And one more thing for people complaining about DSE not knowing what they are doing and that they cannot run a business, that's exactly the point of this whole sale and why they are having it at this stage, if they knew what they were doing we wouldn't be getting these great deals right know or having this discussion. Once again thank you.

    • +1

The sale was advertised on the radio yesterday.

  • Nah he went first thing in the morning, I am 100% sure that staff either bought up most of what was good, and yes there was some scraps left for people to pick up, I think its bull staff weren't aloud to buy the cheap stuff, or wasn't enforced!

  • Any printers available?

  • +1

If the hoarding is true… Then the greed of their staff is saddening, no wonder the company is going down.

    • It's a hit and miss, the dissatisfied people are generally the ones who are more vocal though.

Personally MUCH happier at the outcome of these sales than the one 2 years ago. Seems like they took some precautions to ensure nothing of the like happens again. Wanted to go tomorrow but I have school so best of luck for everyone tomorrow. Already sold a $10 game I got today for $60…honestly no logical ozbargainer would play this as you can get the game much cheaper than online so I would have just sold it and got an online key for it if i wanted to play it.

  • Got the Panasonic 500gb DVR this morning at Perth William Street (DMR-PWT530) for $36. Ex display, asked for the cables/remote and they grabbed them from the back for me. Thanks OP and thanks helpful DS staff.

    • yeah, top notch staff they've got there. very patient and cheerful despite being descended on by us vultures lol

  • I picked up a pioneer soundbar at tea tree plaza this morning. Hi to teh other ozbargainer that was there early with me.

50 something bucks for a model and the remote had gone MIA. I've got it home and used it and i'd have been pretty pissed if i had paid $250 for it originally. Its OK for 50 bucks, but no way at rrp.

  • Dodgy re emporium asked them at least five times since approx 10 am this morning if they had any more display TVs for sale

I guess if you want to complain ring head office

    • +1

When I asked the guy was checking for me on the computer for a long time while chatting to his co worker

  • Also asked re the remaining slr's if any reduced answer was no yet when I went back later some had gone from the cabinet

  • Bought a 40" panasonic today in Elizabeth for my work colleague - was $900 down to $540. Not much compared to what some people are getting, but she was absolutely delighted!

Has anyone in SA had any of the mega deals on TVs today?

    • +1

Picked up the JVC 40" FHD for $149 from Ingle Farm, down from $499. Not as crazy as the 50" for $60, but not bad at all.

      • Were there any cheap TV left at Ingle Farm today?

        • Honestly don't know. I only managed to get the JVC after I pointed it out directly in the front window, and this was after the rep looked in the window himself and told me he had no stock of any of the $150-ish Samsung/JVC/Dick TVs.

But you might get lucky. I would ask about exact models where possible. I did not ask specifically about the sub $100 models because I didn't know about them at the time.

  • Any go to northland and score?

  • Has anyone seen a deal with some laptops? I am looking for a deal on a laptop I can use in my classroom, something with an i7, 8gb ram, 2gb gpu etc? Needs to be a 13.3" or a 14.1"?

    • +1

Not many 13 inch laptops with discrete gpus. Most of the 13 ones I saw in store were ultrabooks. A few 15s with i7 8gb 2gb and fhd display for 899/

    • +1

Airport West had a i7 laptop for $599. 1TB HDD, forgot the rest. Unsure if still there.

    • Pretty high spec for classroom work. You don't need that high a pc.

  • I think the secret is to be nice to the shop assistant. I went into a DJ Dick Smith this morning and picked up an LG 50" 4k tv for 390 which i thought was a pretty damn good price plus sound bar for $30. I was nice to the assistant and he reciprocated. Its obviously a busy time for them given the discounts on some of the products and so if you have to wait 10 mins for service it can be worth your while.

Most of the heavily discounted TVs were 2014 models. The discounts on the 2015 models weren't that fantastic - they're clearly just getting rid of the really obsolete stock and happy to make a loss to improve cash flow. So if you are happy to buy stuff that is over a year old for next to nothing, then there are definitely some bargains to be had!

    • +1

Ah… that was the secret. "Be nice" thanks bud I'll have to try that next time.

    • Do mean my strategy of shouting at them while taking a dump on the counter might be wrong???
      Be nice, you say…hmmm.

  • Picked up Shadow of Mordor on PS4 for $20 at Eastgardens. Also picked up a dual charger for the ps4 controllers for $10 and a mic/earpiece for the ps4 for $8. Thanks TA. Shame they had no PS4's left. They had plenty of GoPro accessories for $1-$5. Walked in to check the ps4 games, only 4 on shelf, asked the salesman, and he said we've got a bunch of games out back. He brought out Farcry 4, Shadow of Mordor, NBA 2K15 and others I can't remember. He scanned them all and they came to $20 each, by the way this was for ps4. I ended up just getting Shadow of Mordor for the bro. I asked about the ps4 $299 console deal and g=he said they sold out yesterday, but said Broadway has a bunch. After I left the store, I called Broadway DS about 7 times in a row but the line was constantly busy. Might call tomorrow, but good luck to the rest of OzBargainers. May the odds be forever in your favour.

    • +1

went to eastgardens this morning as well, they said walk in later or call them to check whether they restock it,well guess I'm going to broadway 1st then back to eastgardens to try my luck.

      • Let me know if any luck at either. Also I don't think they will restock the $299 ps4 consoles as they were old stock. But I hope they do.

        • +1

no luck in broadway, staff said the ps4s are old stock and they even sold out before the clearance+they haven't restock, I asked different staff different time they all gave the same answer :(
had to pick up a logitech z323 speaker, seagate 3tb desktop hd, fitbit, epilator for my girl to worth the trip, however didn't get what I really want :(
also saw a nikon D3300 there.(not the clearance price)

        • Thanks, saved me a trip

  • At Belmont store WA and was quoted $56 for DS 23.5 HD LED LCD TV W/DVD. has a few in stock apparently. Original price $249

  • Went to all the stores on the Gold Coast to find that no mad clearance items are left. One lady told me that staff sale does not start until Saturday. So I guess they are probably hiding stock to buy when the staff sale starts or have asked their friends to buy it for them. Dick move imho. I was able to sense the lies when talking to them. They were not very helpful either.

    • +3

They might be out of a job soon I doubt they care whether it's a dick move or not. I'm sure 99% of the people on this forum would do the same if positions were reversed.

      • +1

Well, it's somewhat justified I guess. But they were very reluctant to help. At one store there was a young staff member who wanted to help but one of the older (and therefore, wiser) staff member secretly signaled him/her not to. I understood at that point that there is no point in seeking help (in finding any bargains) from them.

        • which store was this? The guys at the Aus Fair store were really helpful. But yeah agreed, there were hardly any clearance items. Do you guys think we should wait it out till sat or try again tomorrow?

        • @saakit: it wasn't aus fair. I agree aus fair staff was dedicated and helpful. No awesome deals though.

      • Not all stores are shutting down. Only the ones in very remote places. As told by a staff member

    • +4

Yes you can tell the staff know whats up and act very suspicious. They are hesistant to help and wont look you directly in the eye. Obviously hoarding stock for themselves. Oh well, they’ll be jobless soon.

  • Managed to get the D3200 body only for $197 at perth CBD. They have about 5 left

  • Does anyone know if the deals will continue to tomorrow or friday? Doesn't look likely as it sounds like nearly all stock from all shops has been taken.

  • Does the discount include dyson fans?

  • +1

hey guys today i managed to get a 60" FHD lg tv for 689$ and a JVC 50" FHD tv for 200$. Also got a Samsung surround sound system for 19$. i was pretty happy with the bargains i managed to score today

    • From where? Which Dicksmiths is this from?

  • Got a Vita at Burleigh today. Surprised they still had them at 4:30pm. Also went to Robina to scout out any laptops but most has been sold already. Managed to get Uncharted Collection for $20 which was in the games draw behind the counter. The employees were really nice and helpful, especially the guy who helped us with the laptops at Robina.

    • +1

Ahhhh Bugger!! Redbank wouldn't sell me uncharted!! Grrrr!! "It's a new title. We can't sell it for $20"

      Lucky!

      • yeah, how did you manage to grab it for $20? also did you see fallout 4 on the shelves?

        • Late reply but they just scanned it and it came up at $20. I didn't see Fallout 4 but don't think Dick Smith stocked it in their stores anyway. All the good stuff was hidden away in the draw.

  • +1

Is there a record for the most amount of comments on a single deal?
2000 comments has to be close, if not the record?

Also to keep it on topic: Bought 2 6000mah power banks for $5 each from DSE Cannington just then.

  • +3

Oh trust me I am not blaming the staff, if I were a staff member I would buy up whatever I can. I'm not disgruntled at all, I didn't even attend a store, not really after anything. Just wouldn't be surprised if staff bought up at least 70% of the 'awesome deals' as I would do the same.

    • +2

Exactly, it's a bit annoying but like most of us wouldn't do the same.

  • How much for the iphone 5?

    • +1

Dont know about the 5, but the 5c is $99 and the 5S is $349

  • +1

Got the Dicksmiths 55" (or 54.5") for $209. Massive TV for the room. Thanks TA!

    • The sounds pretty ordinary though hey ?!. I had to buy a logitech 5.1 system to stop the tooth aches.

      • +1

For the room, its bearable. But the screen size aint too bad for the price. Now if I could find the $50 soundbar then all's good!

  • Got Harmony Ultimate One for $100 ($400+ original), PS VITA for $100 ($200+ original), Nikon Coolpix L840 Red for about $60 ($280+ original), Zag pro Plus for $5 ($120 + original), Zag Pro Folio for $10 ($150 + original). Pretty happy.

  • +1

Hang on, did you guys just get this stuff now, or was this during the day??? They closed at 5:30pm,right?

    • Would have been during the day. In-store only

  • Picked up 48" JVC FHD LED TV For $120! Thanks!

  • We visited late this afternoon (Cranbourne, Victoria) and asked a salesman about special clearance (ex demo) mobile phones and was told nothing was available there … but to try another store. We looked at a few tablets also and only one tablet, an iPad I believe, (see sign at doorway) was offering a special price (about $50 off if I recall properly). Guess we were just unlucky. We do need another mobile and I have been considering buying myself a tablet … the ipad keeps disappearing here …

  • I was the first one through the door at my local DS & the LG 55" @$599 already had a hand scrawled 'SOLD' on it….I got a Pana 3D BD/DVD 1Tb PVR @$40 & some PS4 games @$20ea.

  • Any deals on Samsung Galaxy smartphones?? What are the prices like?

    • +1

      The note 3 is $330

  • When I went to bendigo store, they had no crazy deals on TV, the salesman said other DSE must be clearing old stock, did not bother to argue. Also said store wide sale on Saturday will exclude a lot of items.

  • I managed to get a 40 inch LED TV for $119 and a Yamaha Soundbar for $51. Both brand new. That was in Perth CBD this morning.

    • Nicely done. This isn't a sale it's a heist.

  • which harmony remote is on sale?

    • +1

650, Touch and Ultimate Hub. The rest I believe are normal ticketed prices.

  • Thanks to EVERYONE who posted their deals with model numbers etc. Staff were getting calls about tv's etc and they were just saying none left.

I managed to pick up a few bargains that weren't marked and "surprised" the staff as I was in super late. Very overwhelming but worth it. Thanks guys :)

  • Do we know what is goods are on sale tomorrow yet?
any managers lists from today around?

I really tried, it was 400 items strong but they wouldn't let me take any photo's :(
will see how I go tomorrow.

  • +1

Got a 50" Chang Hong for $209 - winning! It pays to be nice to staff on the phone. Also got Civ Beyond Earth for $10, twas a good day!

    • +1

Same here, very happy with the TV so far. I wouldn't mind a better remote. Perhaps $100 Logitech Harmony ;)

      • Pretty sure my remote forgot to get packaged in as we put the TV back in the box.Do you reckon it's worth going back and getting?

        • +1

Worth a try. Read another response that said he asked before leaving; dedicated staff member found the cables and remote quickly for him, were out the back.

        • @JediJan:Cheers mate, looking into it now. Just got a harmony touch for $30 at Dr's anyway though!

  • 1x GE5200 (32" LG) @ Rockingham (WA) Left this afternoon

  • I called around and staff said all the bargain clearance TVs were sold out.
Happy to pay a fellow ozbargainer $50 for the trouble if you're having second thoughts/find a store that stocks a clearance TV greater than 48inches.
