      • Canberra Centre might have plenty

      • Least likely to hold clearance lines though.

      • +1

I've been here today, hardly anything on clearance. I asked the staff to show me what's on clearance (tablets, printers, phones etc) showing them Dick's clearance link and they couldn't. They particularly mentioned that the cameras and 60"+ TVs have been sold. Oh and the staff seemed pretty rude to any customers looking for clearance items.

        • well imagine being asked the same thing not twice or thrice but hundred times :) I think most DSE around Canberra are nice. I have checked and called every Canberra stores and they're pretty helpful and friendly. One staff gave me the hint to check back on Saturday, the staff pretty much said that almost everything would be on sale. Has anyone checked their ovens and microwaves? are those on discount too?

        • +2

I dispute that. I dealt with the staff at the Canberra centre and they were super friendly and accommodating.

I got my stuff in the morning and came back to pick it up and they did look pretty exhausted at the end.

        • @nedski: Any big 4K TV left when you're there?

        • Belconnen sale staff was friendly when he approached, was first told there was no sale. Came back to try a different person, again friendly at start but then ask abt clearance items (at ard 9.30 am), tone changed and looked at other staff member and gave smart ass smile (like they already put it in the back for themselves), told nothing left. Ask to scan the price if display TV and was told the price is on the sign.

        • @antman8: Jesus thats rough. I suppose what else can you do.

Maybe take a picture of them and put it on their facebook page.

        • @nedski:
I am talking about a specific store, they were clearly rude to multiple. Customers ( not to me though)

        • @bluepanther:

well imagine being asked the same thing not twice or thrice but hundred times :)

that does not excuse there behaviour towards customers, they are paid employees

        • @CandyMan:

Sorry, from the thread it looked like you were complaining about the Canberra Civic store which I was disputing.

So which store were you talking about?

  • +1

From experience how long do DS Gift Cards take to activate once bought from Coles? Don't want to be stuck with them if my item goes out of stock or DS closes down in the near term.

    • Immediately I think

  • Went into my local store today and staff were pretty good but seemed to be holding back…was looking for a new TV but nothing under $400 (over 40"). Worth trying again tomorrow or call it quits?

  • Some of their higher end Sony Headphones were already 30% off today… I bought some so I hope they don't go on sale for less tomorrow.
I bought the Sony MDR10RNC & MDRZX770BNB Noise Cancelling Headphone Bundle for $299, although since I purchased them with Gift Cards bought from Coles it was for $270. So it was really about 40% off…
If they are I will try returning and repurchasing them. :P

    • +3

Dick Smith don't usually do returns unless the items are faulty. I thought I would just warn you! :)

      • +1

Probably be easier to just ask if they can refund the difference. I've seen people have been successful asking them for that sort of thing on Whirlpool.
But best to wait to see if they're on special before I worry about it.

        • Most likely. At Macquarie Centre yesterday they did say they are happy to exchange within a week so I would assume they would be more than happy to comply with refunding the difference, given that the headphones are further reduced tomorrow.

  • Have any of you guys used an epilator before? Because I have a feeling I will be compelled to purchase one tomorrow…

    • +1

      Apparently it hurts. Lot..

    • Ummm nope.

    • +2

Sure no worries at all - recommend you start with your ballsack.
Best to get it over and wont hurt at all. BTW it's 000 in Australia, not 911. Just thought I 'd remind you.
      :}

`When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea'

    • Great metaphor. My donkey has a red hat BTW.

    • +2

Some peeps snapped up some good deals though. The TVs at crazy prices were nice. The Canon 7D for $800 and the 6D with the really expensive lens for $850 (both after cashback) were excellent. Even the 'cheaper' cameras were great.

Not to mention the dude with the $200 MacBook Pro and the $400 MacBook Air.

Lots of people missed out. But kudos to those that managed to snag some exceptional bargains.

  • Hoping Bendigo DSE comes to the party on prices for TV's. Nothing discounted today that was special

  • +8

What we really need is that managers price list before the opening bell

    • +4

What we really need is the store stock level availability list before the opening bell

    • Yep, that would be the best/fairest thing to do but hearing all these rumors that DSE is going to be a history soon, the staff are probably on the same 'get all the cheap stuff you can get' emotional level just like us. I don't think the managers will be stopping them at such doomsday era for DSE, when the poor staff are already wondering where/what their next job will be.

      • When I went in there was a quite nice young guy who said it was his first day…

        • Shot any good deal(s) though?

        • @AussieDaddy: . I was there at 9am so I had NO idea what exactly was on sale and he seemed pretty clueless so i just got him to scan a few items. I mainly just came to pick up the leftover good games from yesterday.

        • @shot: Leftover good games are better than no games. Enjoy.

        • Hah was this the Mackay store?

      • A staff member admitted to me earlier today that if they had any stock of heavily discounted items, he would have bought them. The vast majority of people expecting to rock up to a DSE store and score a heavily discounted old model 40" TV are going to be very disappointed. The one or two display models the store has are going to be split between the employee, the employee's friends, and 100 Ozbargainers.

        Good luck.

This is a fire sale. I would expect DSE to bust and shares to be wiped out early in the new year. They'll blame GST free imports and online sales and such, of course, but truth is DSE has been lost for a long time now.

DSE is sending the clear message that they're in dire straits at the moment. It's not a good image going forward and doesn't foster a great deal of trust in the brand.

        • I could of bought 4 40' jvc tvs today for $150 as well as 4-5 other Chinese branded ones for $119 and that was when I wandered in for lunch at 12.20. Was told I was to late for the really good deals that went earlier
Bought a sound bar as I have been in the market for one and got a pretty good deal there.

  • +3

Thanks OP. I might sit this one out, have fun all. And remember be nice and not a grub. :)

  • Anyone bought headphones for gaming and movies from DS recently and have recommendations? Looking to get some but don't know much about headphones. 60-70% off is worth checking out though, even if so far Dicky hasn't really come through for me with these sales.

    • +2

Got a Roccat one for 23. It jas usb and 3.5mm options, 7.1 surround, active noise cancellation . Also a Philips for 20 bucks. In red.
This I saw in Kotara, near Newcastle, NSW. Anyone in the Glendale, Warners Bay or Kotara area?

      • +1

I bought the roccat as well. A bit tight but was able to bend the arms out a little though. Sound is really good.

        • +1

I picked this up but then put it back, mainly use headphones for the TV and have a wireless pair for that, and it was a bit bulky to use on the go (I know that's not what they were made for)

Also I picked up a turtle beach pair for a ps3 for $1 so I wasn't going to be able to top that

        • @Jackson: all that was gone when I got there or they didn't have it

        • @lordra: Fair enough, in case anyone wants to know the turtle beach model is p11 and say they are ps3 and also pc compatible, connect via usb, Jb selling for 79 bucks

        • @Jackson: did you head to the Newcastle, Glendale or Kotara stores?

      • Thanks, will check it out.

  • What's the best DS store in Sydney for stock?

I work in the city and live along the northern line.

  • +4

USA Black friday sales are not even closed to this.

  • LMFAO, iirc I saw the Xperia Z Ultra at DJ's today for about $775.
If it's 70% off tomorrow it might almost be worth buying.

    • $775?

      AUD?

    • Was <$80 today

    • I got the last display unit today in Glendale NSW for $59, not the ultra though. None in Kotara,NSW though.

      • Did you go to jesmond was there much in any of the other Newcastle stores

        • No I went to Kotara, nothing there. I wanted a keyboard and a hard drive. Nothing left at the end of the day.

    • It was 74.70 when scanned but the price was not marked. I bought one from djs in Doncaster.

      • $74 is expensive for a 3G phone

        • Z ULTRA is a very good 4G phone. Supports more 3G and 4G bands than most other phones.

  • +11

Unfortunately, I think I've had enough Dick for one week.

    • LOL! Did you get anything worthy at least, or you missed out big like me?

      • +1

        How big… Aussie Daddy? LOL

        • Bahaha! No comment. :-)

    • That's. What. She. Said.

    • +1

      You sound like my Mrs

      • Aussie Daddy sounds like your Mrs? What's the world coming to?

Well, I think I have enough OB for one day so I might have to log out now.

  • +17

I need a new toaster. Take all the 60" TV's and below cost DSLRs you can carry, but leave me a god damn toaster you vultures!!

    • we'll stick with our $7 toasters

  • I went to four DSE stores today and no iPhones were on sale :( really hope I will have better luck with other stores tomorrow.

  • How do you know which items are on clearance and which aren't ?

    • +1

It's all guesswork going by the thesis I've read here over the course of the day.

    • +2

You wait here till people post what they find. Then you know what's on clearance.

But by that stage it's all sold out.

(You just have to ask them to scan stuff in if there is no sticker. Most staff members don't even know what's on special.)

    • +1

How do you know which stocks are on drop and which aren't ? (Hint: start with D)

  • Any home theatre speakers worth looking at?

    • I've heard from a previous poster that an lg soundbar was going for $30 and a Panasonic 3D bluray player home theater went for $9.90 yesterday. Hoping to pick up something tomorrow for myself.

      • That is me ….. lol ….

That Panasonic Home Theatre got a NOT NEW sticker on it. Just tested it all good and 100% new.

  • If audio is on special tomorrow, then I will be looking for good home theater headphones so I dont annoy my housemates when im watching stuff up late.

  • +2

should i wait for the elephant sales on saturday instead???

    • if you see something you want going cheap then grab it because there wont be any left on saturday.

  • Are the DSE and JVC branded tv's any good? There's a heap that weren't discounted my way.

    • +1

DSE TVs..They do the job but aren't anything special.

Parents have one in their room, has lasted two years without fault. Has USB recording function which is handy. TV guide is rubbish and menus aren't quick to navigate. No data on console gaming quality, the picture is on par with my Hisense TV though. So yes, not the worst TVs but one thing I do like is their look. Slim and the bevel looks crisp.

  • +1

Hi all. Went to DS today at opening time Syd store. Already 50 people waiting to rush the store. Staff were extremely overwhelmed and madly rushing around the store scratching there heads with ticket prices in hand. Some bloke got a Mac book pro for $399 original price $3200 approx. most cameras were already sold before door opened. I managed to get a Samsung 2.1 sound bar hw-h551 for $104, price tag was changed in front of me from $554. Not the newest sound bar but at the right price for me. There was a Sony and Phillips sound bar for $60 and $34 ex display.

There was only a couple of old Xbox and PS games left. Nil consoles at all. It was a shame this clearance was not better managed for equity for customers. Thou I got one thing I still felt a little cheated and had the feeling staff had already reserved items in the back store room. Phone also rang none stop while I was in there.

It felt as though a fire sale was in place hyped up by DS utilising social media with drip fed info and thru word of mouth. Also was only old line stock which other retailers no longer sell. True DS fashion.

    • +1

"Some bloke got a Mac book pro for $399 original price $3200 approx"

      omg

      • The staff member almost had a fit when he scanned it. Quote: "if I'd known how cheap it was I would have bought it". Probably had 2 out the back already, staff always take first dibs.

        • Shameless

    • any chance there will be go pros and headphones tomorrow?

  • +1

Is it possible to buy something hat isn't on sale yet and just use price protection when it is?

    • If the price is not publicly available (eg. On website, in catalogues) then it'll be tricky to prove that the price indeed dropped.

  • +4

I went to the Toombul store in QLD today at about 3:30pm. All the cheap stuff was gone aside from a few unexciting $20 Xbone and PS4 games and some Skylanders/Disney Infinity stuff mostly for Wii and a couple for PS3.

Cheap clearance cameras were all sold out, all TVs sold out, all decent phones sold out. Was told about a couple of 40 inch TVs for $400 range, a Samsung Galaxy S4 ex display for $400ish (wtf), no stock of the cheap soundbars to the staff's knowledge. Didn't force them to scan things, because nothing on the posted lists was available that I could see. A few laptops $400 and up. So I walked away with just a $6 Disney Infinity set of 3 characters. Tremendous waste of time, but I was prepared for that to be the outcome. That said, the staff were friendly and as helpful as could be expected given the circumstances.

Probably won't bother going back unless there's a more clearly identified set of sale items with actual stock. Good luck to those willing to put up with this kind of shopping experience, and congratulations to everyone who got a bargain today.

  • +6

I'm going to assume there's no point in me turning up to DSE after work tomorrow.

  • Is this sale online or nah?

    • In-store

    • +1

      Nah

  • Trying to decide which Sydney store would be worthwhile to hit up first tomorrow.

    Really headphones and a GPS

    • Anywhere in the city.
