• That's where I'll be heading.

No pushing or shoving!

• @sillywalks:

What are you after ?

• @sshazam:

Not sure. I'll see what's leftover.

Noting like a good sticky beak.

• Did you go to Parra?

There were heaps of people but not heaps of bargains - for me anyway.

Got talking to the store manager, who seemed like a good guy. Unsurprisingly he was ticked off at senior management for not planning this better and not being more upfront about what's on sale. He also spotted a Dick Smith employee from another store who was doing something dodgy and told him off for doing so. Well done.

But man, he was getting hammered by questions left right and centre. I wouldn't want his job today.

~11000 clicks and ~120 positive votes, the competition will be strong tomorrow!

• +1

Not to mention all the email subscribers, all the friends and family that the staff have told, etc!

To think how it was on day 1, and that was really just a post on here afaik!

• Also heard it on 882 'rumour file' this morning

• I'll bring some bouncers along for support ;)

• So… The real question is what is worth buying?
Laptops, I phones, TVs, …??

• If you want an outdated laptop then sure.

• +1

5th gen cpus are definitely not out-dated….
i mean a 5th gen i7+6GB ram for $699 is pretty damn good value.

• I went in store. Nothing worth buying.

• mens grooming? GPS? Audio?

• +17

For anyone reading this. Booragoon Garden City only has the following clearance deals from previous days.
2x iphone 4s 8gb - $98
3x panasonic 100hz fhd 40"inch - $550~
1x lg 40 smart fhd - $749
two or three intel i7 computers at $699-$799
one or two intel i5 computers at $499.

So that means NO
ps4 or xb1
tvs under $150
clearance phones
ex demo ipad air/mini
ipad 64gb wifi or wifi/cell

i hope this post stops atleast 4-5 people calling our store for these items…probably not lol
I know most decent ozbargainers know how much work we have to do during this period…but a lot don't.
I mean, i served multiple customers today being as helpful as possible outlying what was left…then they just went to my colleague less than a minute later and asked the same question…when i clearly knew what i was talking about, and my colleagues actually don't have time remembering all these things.

• +1

With all the confusion amongst staff and no prices on show, can you blame them? You even say that the other staff in your store didn't know the details. If I didn't have to work, I'd do the same thing.

• No i can't blame them, going thru a list of over 400+ items which are on sale is not ideal, and when more than half of those items are not in stock at your store, there's no point remembering them. Also…Christmas casuals just got hired so they are still learning how to use our computer systems…let alone product knowledge on what is on clearance and available!

• Thumbs up for letting us know stock details. However, how do you know that they won't add other TV models to clearance though and there might be more sub $150 TVs tomorrow? Thats the problem with the lack of details and why even people whom have read your message might still ask you tomorrow to be sure :)

• do u have access to price lists that are universal across stores? that would be helpful to everyone

• +1

May I know which store in Victoria have any Clearance Apple iPhone, iPad or Macbook??

• +5

"Hi, I am just calling about the sale on TVs yous are having. You got any of those $49 42" ones left? Nah what about a Nikon 3200 Twin Lens pack from two days ago? What about a Sony Curved Screen 100Hz 80"3D 4K TV for $23?
Awwwww WHY NOT? You all hiding them?"
;p

• +1

Haha, downvoten!

• +2

Ha ha was attempting irony.
Oh well. Ironic in its own way.

• @King Tightarse: I know but it's funny that people would down vote you, maybe they didn't think it was funny for some reason?

• +1

I'll admit I'm guilty of this, I inquired about the stock levels of the iPad Air 64GB WiFi/Cellular, and the guy just quoted me the price and availability of the iPad Air 2!
At this point there was about 5 other customers in the store, so I'm sure it's not because he was flummoxed or anything.

Went to another employee and she actually took me to the computers to check the stock in the store/other stores with stock

If the bargain is worth it, why not? Might find someone who has more information/who'll do more to help you
I'm not saying you're not willing to help your customers but there are others who're probably sick of getting questions about the clearances lol

• +1

Totally agree with your comment blindingshadowz.

Yesterday I was in the queue to ask about available iPads at 9:05 and the person (manager) who served told me straight up there are no iPads. I have been served by the particular gentleman on a previous occasion and he just cbf doing anything because it was "too hard".

When I went back yesterday afternoon to the same DS, this time, to enquire about TVs. The gentleman before got shown the list and what's available. Unfortunately, the manager served me again! Thought I'd give him another chance but he still gave me a no.

After what happened yesterday I probably won't bother wasting time at DS today

• +1

I got one of these - http://www.cnet.com/au/products/samsung-bd-e8500a-blu-ray-hd… - for $39.90 from the Dick inside David Jones at Southland today…

Not the world's greatest PVR, but for that price it will do. :)

At the time (around 3pm) they had some crazy-cheap ex-demo Blu-ray players starting from $5 for a pretty scruffy Sony one.

• I would gladly pay that for a device that does all that, after a PVR for mum for xmas, hoping I can snag one after going in store today 5 min before close (due to work).

I only had a moment to see what they had left and evaluate a price, was a Panasonic 500gb PVR there but for $130 clearance tag asked the guy if it was the ticket price (was a sign next to it saying 20% off Blu-Ray and PRV players) but he said it wasn't further discounted and he couldn't lower the price, should of forced him to scan it.

Will the discount price be less the potential 70% tomorrow or was that the sale today already, meaning that ticketed price was the fully discounted price already and it will be $130? (not that it matters I'm sure it will sell before 530 tomorrow when I get there :(.

• Anyone know if the Samsung Clearance Smartphones discount applies to all models or only a few selected?

• +1

I saw Samsung Note 3 on Clearance today 58% OFF

RRP $747 down to $313.74

• Interested in the Note 5 and S6. Checked today and they weren't on sale. Hopefully they are tomorrow.

• I don't think so because they are not outdated clearance items.

• +2

Probably not tmr, maybe next year?

• @ccwwayne:hehe…

• Same in Chadstone.

Ticketed at $332, scans at $313.

• +1

Night Dick see u tomorrow

• @brendongl are dyson fans part of the sale? If so can you share the sale price?

• mmm nothing online store…like TV yesterday the store people said were click and collected?

• Some people might legitimately purchase online via click and collect.

Though that, in the present climate, is unlikely. It is more plausible that DSE employees are responsible somewhat for this disputed stock.

• +1

Just wondering whether different DickSmith stores have different items for sale? My local store (Kawana Water) no any sign of clearance about apple computer or TV, only cameras have a big sign of 70% off and all of cameras are gone…

• +2

I wonder if they are going broke because they have excess stock, then where are their stock? Why don't we get one and by the time we get there, there is no stock.

• They do have stocks, it just their employees hoarding it for themself, I went yesterday standing at the opening time, and the moment I walk in when I asked for discounted tablet, they said it all sold out. Everything that are crazy price are all gone. Really, we just eating off whatever left on their plate. On the positive note, I think we should let DS staff enjoyed all this perks, just think of it as their redundancy payments before DS goes down.

• Wondering if anyone has hit the Nowra store. Can't imagine there'd be too much going on down there. Might even have some stock left when I'm down on Sun.

• Yes, they did have a big table in the store with all the clearance items, a few good things but nothing overly interesting.

• +1

I almost feel like this has to be a troll post for the vagueness. You may as well have said there were items in the shop, some of which were on special, but it is a secret what they were.

• Sorry for being vague, but I got to the store at 5 when I finished work and all they had was a very empty table in the store which had clearance tape around it and the staff said that most of the decent stuff was sold when they opened. Most of what was left was sky landers swap force a pvr and two boxes with misc Xbox games and accessories, was also a few go pro holders and selfi sticks.

• Nowra had no slrs for sale and no big discounts on tvs. A staff member, I think he may have been the manager said he doesn't have much old stock. He looked up the price list yesterday and the cheapest discounted tv was about $650. It looks like they have a manager that keeps on top of aged stock and that in combination with Nowra being a small store means there probably won't be many good bargains there. I'm not wasting time going back there today.
Bigger stores with hopeless managers are the best places to look.

• I called numerous stores including Nunawading today and was told that there are no more phones or cameras left and that console games were the only real items that had stock available other than the odd BluRay player or PVR. Just a heads up for anyone looking at going to Nunawading.

• They were saying they had no stock of anything big ticket and clearance period, though they had a Samsung NX Mini, the Sony Go Pro and a few other things which are on various lists on the shelf, many with either old or no tickets… So take that with a grain of salt, they also said similar yesterday with the cameras, Knox claimed 2 of their cameras were broken on the phone, go in store and the display model was fine and the second one was gone… Nunawading claimed they had no clearance TV's / Blu-ray systems and they're sick of people asking since "the sale only applies to a couple of stores anyway", but then the model no. on a couple seemed matched up with ones people posted for far less than the shelf prices were.. So who knows.

Mind you most of the staff seemed pretty over it…

• +3

Hey I just wanted do post on my experience, since there's a lot of people whinging, but I doubt it's going to make anyone feel better.

I went to Randwick and Bondi and DJs at Bondi, and the staff there range so it depends on who you get. Try to be predictable, people don't like surprises, let them know what you are after and keep and open mind, if they can't look up specific models ask them what is end of life/clearance? If they know they will usually tell you. Of they don't they will tell you they don't. If you are looking for one thing you won't get it, but if you are looking for anything you will find something that's good. How hard is it people?

I got a bunch of good to decent stuff, including a 4k Seiko 55" for 239, turtle beach ps3 headset for $1, xbox360 energiser dual charge kit for $1, 15000mah kaiser baas battery for $25, x360 remote for $6, some 60" Panasonic plasma for $149 (comes with free burn in), hx60v for 99. I got some other rubbish too, can't remember (oh a 5 buck 7" tablet cover). A mate got a HP backpack half price at 40 bucks, and an expensive looking camera bag for 25. Someone in front of me nabbed a 60" LG for 600 down from 1800, could have been a WebOS one, they bought it while I was trying to work it out.

One thing I can say is that even though people had called ahead to reserve stock it was being sold, but I don't know if I could begrudge them this. If the stock was still there tomorrow they would have to answer for it, the better policy would have just to not hold it for people in the first place.

Also a special mention for Calvin at BJ, service with a sense of humour and a smile. When you deal with this guy you wish you were more like him.

Damn nice win on the 55"

Surprised no comments yet about the coffee machines apparently on special tomorrow . Don't ppl think it's good enough?

• Sooooooo what kindsa speakers ppl thinking of getting?

Do DS sell any good portable speakers in their range?

• +9
• +3

wow.. looks like they're about to pull it off again with this sale.. get rid of everything… and play future investors again. I'd be very very wary of ever buying into another DSE turnaround, but it looks like all your super funds invested in this POS stock. Really annoys me. Super fund managers get paid if they win or lose and it seems they invest in these stocks to get extra benefits/handouts.

• +1

Exactly! By the end of the day it's the small fish, us, that are the real losers. In the short term we might be happy with our small bargains from drowning businesses like DSE but in the long term we're all in a sinking ship, I am afraid. I hope there won't be other major chains that will get caught in this shit storm.

• +1

Remember the marketer's favourite weasel words: "up to".

At the DSE stores I visited earlier today the vast majority of items were not discounted, the staff had no price list, and the few items I asked about they could offer 'specials' no better than what other stores have as everyday prices. If there are any screaming hot specials then any staffer with a brain and available money would have snapped them up or hidden them for a friend to buy later on. eBay is their friend.

• Been to GW and chaddy today (took half a day off work to attend to important things ahem) and only managed to snag a Sony tx30 camera for 59$ display model retailing 399$ only cuz of the missus.

Display TV's were flying out the door whilst I was there. Better prices on those at GW and shit prices at chaddy who said that GW have got the pricing all wrong. Don't know what that means but it wasn't worth it in the end. Atleast the missus is happy for now :)

GW dse guys were flooded with customers but they were courteous and one guy skipped his lunch to serve the pouring queue… Pity him. Oh btw, don't bother calling these stores as the first thing they did was to take the phone off the hook ;-)

With regard to display TV's, he sed go for 2015 model as they are on display lot lesser time than older models which may have been on the shelves for abt a year and ran 10 hrs everyday 7 days a week (Geezzuz). A guy bought a massively burned in LG fhd 50 inch for 59$ even after the sales guys saying mate, it's not worth it. Dude was like, I will buy it and and call LG service centre to fix it under warranty….. Fool and his money….

OZB, TA & DSE… Make me spend the money that I don't have on the things that I don't need… Not going back in there until this mayhem is over B-)

• +4

yeh lg aint gonna fix no burn in when they go in the service menu and find out its been on for 7000 hours

• 5 pages of comments already, I'm curious to see how many pages we get tomorrow after all the disappointments.

Try ozbargainner's can't resist a good bargain even if it takes a miracle lol

• +5

99% of the big ticket stock has sat on the shelves for 9 months or more with very low sales.

The cheap TVs are almost all 2013/2014 models, so are in very short supply, mainly ex display/ex repair.

Low stock due to sales over the past 24 months.

Clearance consoles were all original release consoles or special editions. New stock is not discounted. Again, old stock sitting in back rooms etc.

To add to this I think the majority of Thursday tickets went live on Wednesday, I am curious to see what comes through tomorrow.

• Could not agree more.
The JVC TVs are 2014 stock and the panel inside them is not even native 1080p! Yet sold as Full HD.
(Its not really even a JVC, considering they no longer manufacture TVs, its just a Chinese OBD with a JVC logo, its the same quality as Kogan or a cheap DSE).

http://www.applianceretailer.com.au/2013/11/jvc-branded-chin…

Most other TVs were old shelf stock, not much new in un-opened boxes.

Some smaller bargains to be had with accessories, brand new, un-opened, but you had to hunt them out.

• What about laptops?

• Good prices on laptops with w8.1.

Some are less than 4 months old and 40-50% off. HP envy 16gb ram 2tb HDD $999 etc. Manufacturer clearance lines replaced with w10 versions.

Some 18 month old models that never had a clearance, some really good buys, but store specific.

• Ahhh; I hope I manage to grab one of those. Thanks for the reply!!

• +1

DONT Waste time going to David Jones Melbourne

Anything you ask will be replied with answer " Sold out"

Dick smith inventory check showed lot of iPads in stock in David jones but David jones staff told all sold out when I was the first person to enter the store yesterday

• +1

Anything you ask will be replied with answer " Sold out"

Reducing the competition ;)

• +1

Don't go to there so that I can go there

• It was the same for macbook. In store inventory showed stock but the staff guy with glasses kept claiming there was nothing at the back. Also said no cheap tvs.

• -1

So who's in line and where? If anyone's at Burwood NSW or Roades NSW. Let me know how it went in terms of Mobiles and Laptops.

• In line?
Its not even 6am yet!

• LOLOLOL there are people with issues.

• +1

Tissues? People with tissues!!! Never mind, too early for me.

• Anyone go a list of items on clearance today?

• +1

Agree re DJ's Melbourne was the first there yesterday got the same answer…

No more Dick for me today I'm all dicked out. Good luck to all the bargain hunters.

Remember ask them to scan the item!

• Anyone have any good strategies for getting all the deals and making sure the employees actually help. I'm thinking of hooking up a mic and recording glasses in case I catch any snippets about hiding a trolley full of deals out the back and report the offending individuals to head office.

• +2

from my experiences at Melb CBD Stores and DJ's

1) Get there early
2) Be nice to the staff
3) Ask them which items are on clearance that you are interested in.
4) Ask them to scan the item physically and show you the price it scans at.

• +2

I have personally found you are better off giving them 30 minutes after the store opens so they have a chance to look at the managers lists.
if you go in there when they open, they haven't even looked at the list yet and are frustrated and feel pressured.

But I was at a smaller store.

• Got better treatment & a smile yesterday from frazzled manager as she recognised me as a regular at that store.

• If you a girl maybe wearing something which highlights your assets could help in getting the extra edge from dick staff.

• Depends - most of the staff I met were women ;-)

• Do you mean the Galaxy Edge Rpse Gold 64 gigs for half price ?? ;)

• +1

For anyone who missed out on a cheap (sub $200) TV, i wouldn't be too worried.
They are not even Full HD 1920x1080, but infect older panels that are 1366x768.
I didn't even think those old res panels were still being sold, by anyone, for years…. Its 10 year old tech.

Even at $50 to $150, you'd rather just put it towards a proper FHD or UHD display, that is actually a joy to watch.

• Yeh those panels are only useful as a spare TV in a rarely used room. I challenge anyone not happy to get a refund based on misleading claims of 1080p,you are entitled under Australian consumer law.

• I am actually considering doing that today.
Girl in our DS is great, i know it wont even be a problem.
And in this day and age, i struggle to use such a set even in a spare room situation, when ONE HD looks like lego, its better to not even turn the TV on :)

Its pretty sad when the brand new TV you purchased, is worse than the 7 year old one its repalcing

• Bought crap tablet from DS advertised with a newer OS. Paid online by PayPal so lodged dispute based on deceptive advertising. DS refunded next day & didn't want tablet back :-)

• Does clearance lines mean just old stock or also displays?
