  • i think duplicate? maybe im wrong

    • +7

You're wrong. The other deal is at Coles.

      • +1

thanks~ is it not on catalogue? national wide? is this this week special only?

        • It's not in my Wooloworths catalogue.

  • Is this nationwide?

  • In Coles, it limited to 1 per customer. I am not sure if Woolies does that.

Limiting it is good. Stop people getting 10 or 20 each time to make profit, i.e. resell creditmetou on ebay.

    • me2u on ebay are getting expensive now… used to be like $4-$5 , and now it is at least $6.50

    • +1

No it isn't. I bought 7 at one store and 6 at another. They would have sold me more.

My boy is buying one per month off me to use as data in his dual sim phone. Expires mid 2017 for all the sims we got.

  • +2

Also available at Coles for $5.

  • +1

So Woollies did this to match Coles? Didnt see it in the catalog/

    • Seems like it.

  • Did you have to price match or something to get that or is that just what it scans at?

    • scans at that price

    • +1

Can confirm, its on special with tag of 25$ saving and pay $5 only. Bought 3, no questions asked,

      (Vic - 3153)

      • Definitely working at $5 each
Bought the last two at 3039.
        Promotion -$25

  • Has anyone bought this and activated the sim (as opposed to credit transfer etc) to use for Play Store billing? Had any troubles? I keep getting an error "user was not found" when getting to the actual payment stage of the play store (after pressing buy).

Tried the usual fixes, didn't work. After reading around on the Telstra forum, someone mentioned that it takes longer to activate the sim for play store billing (~3days) than it takes to activate for calls etc (~10min).

Anyone else had this? Fixed it? Telstra is no help (duh)

    • +1

It can take a day or two for the play store to start working

      • You need to wait at least pass 1AM the next day depends on what time you activate your SIM.
If you still cannot use it after 48 hours , talk to them on 24x7 support online chat.

        • +1

Strange, the last 2 I used were within hours of activating SIM and Play credit worked immediately. Must have been lucky?

        • @Click_It: I just leave the one sim in my Galaxy Tab and put the new prepaids in an old phone and transfer the credit. If you use 2 different browsers on the phone you can transfer 2 x $10 via CreditMe2U straight away and the last $9 via the kepad #100#. Yeah I only get $29 per sim but beats waiting for Google Playstore to update my billing for the new simcard number.

        • Damn it!

After reading about these delay dramas I copped it twice with 2 new SIM activations.

Prior to this, it always worked perfectly. 1 was fixed today on chat, the other was err, the error message changed to a new error message, still not fixed. Current position in queue: 72 (yikes!)

    • Telstra chat should be able to fix it - in my experience between 5-45 mins chat time.

      • Do you remember what the problem was? Or what they did to fix it?

        • +1

They may remove the "Bigpond limit set at $0 ".

    • Yes I asked about this and one of the Telstra employees in that departmentent is still to confirm whether it would take up to 72 hours (~3 days).

  • I really need to sit down and work out what the deal is with these Starter kits.

    • I have no clue either, why do resellers like these deals so much?

    • +6

I use mine as cheap Play Store credit

      • Can you keep the same number & still use the credit/data? Or do you throw it out once you've used it?

        • Second option.

  • No stock Brisbane CBD

  • +1

Can i use this $30 starter pack as a credit to my existing prepaid telstra sim ?

    • -6

Yes. Use the credit me to you function. $10 max per day and costs 10 cents to do. So for 5 bucks you get 29.70 of credit on your normal number.

      • +8

        bigspike is mistaken.

The charge for each successful Credit Me2U transfer is $0.25 and not $0.10, billed to the sender.

Each Credit Me2U transaction is for an integral number of dollars, with an upper limit of $10 per transaction if transferring from a Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile service. That means someone can only extract $10+$10+$9=$29.00 out of a new Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile service with $30 of recharge credit balance initially by Credit Me2U.

        • This makes sense, thanks! (I've been reading OZBargain forums on this for a while but couldn't get my head around it).

How is this credit translated to data? This is what I mean: My wife & I have got a cellular iPad each but have only used it on WiFi as we don't need a lot of data every month and thus can't justify paying $10+/month each. Say I buy 1 of this SIMs for each iPad and a few spare ones to transfer credit via Credit Me2U, how much data would I get for the $29?

        • +1

          @autocader:

Your best optiomnm would to be to activate the SIMs on Freedom Plus and put it into a wifi hot spot. At the moment you'd get 7.6GB data. Then transfer $29 recharge credit to a SIM on either Simplicity or Long Life. On those offers you can purchase Browse Plus Packs using the accumulated recharge credit. I think it's $20 for 700MB.

        • +1

@sween64: Will give that a go - thank you!

        • The cridet can transfer to an existing sim! I think that's why there are so nice…

        • What can the credit be used for? Can you add $1 to this $29 and do another $30 Freedom Plus Recharge on another SIM?

        • @goodchild:Yes but the one you are trnasferring to - must be a no freedom plus otherwise you cannot buy anything with the credit apart from Google Play Credit OR International Plus Data Packs.. Please correct me if I am wrnog

        • @macksta:
          No.

      • I am pretty sure its 25c to do on prepaid..?

        • +1

It's about 18 months since I last did it, so I am guessing they charge more now. So 5 bucks for $29.00 credit and a bit extra for one youtube video.

        • +1

do the math, if $10 is max and a 25 cent fee?

        • Are you serious some clown negged me for sharing information???? Here is the link to back it up!

          https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/mobiles-tablets/…

  • What is in this Starter Kit? $30 credits?

  • How much data can you get from these kits, and how does the Google play credit work?

  • There's never stock at the Woolies I go.

    • What Woolies do you go to? Just yesterday I got 7 from one store and 6 from another.

  • Anyone in Perth, there's still stock at the Enex 100 woolies. The another one in city is out as well as Coles.

  • I went to two Woolies in Perth metro and both said they were sold out because they've been on special "all week".

    • +1

That's the answer I got from the Murray street one. The lady at the other one was pretty generous. Gave me 3 without even asking twice :)
You can still try your luck in other stores. I'm pretty sure there's plenty

      • I got two at Morley woolworths this morning (only asked for two, didn't ask how many more they had).

  • Thanks op I managed to grab one from coles but there was limit to only 1. I'll try my wooliea today and see how I go.

  • Can I plug this into a USB dongle and use it for mobile broadband?

    • Yes with either 7.6gb or 6gb offers it isn't optus.

  • No luck with Woolies and Coles Gungahlin ACT. Anyone from ACT found it anywhere?

    Thank you

    • +1

Two of us got 1 each at Coles in Tuggeranong. Didn't want to look dodgy and ask for more.

      • Thank you for the information.

    • Any stores in northside having stock?

  • Can anyone please enlighten me on how to use this to transfer to my existing Telstra Pre Paid ? Do I need to activate it first (with what plan) before I can transfer credit?

Also, I want it mainly for Data only - which option is best recharge in this case?

    Thanks peeps.

    edit: typo

    • This is for a new prepaid service with its own service number. You could port your number I suppose, but this offer is good for one month only. You surely don't want a new service number every month that you try to activate a SIM from a new starter kit. And note that it's a starter kit, not a recharge!

      • Use a second phone, or a dual sim phone. Transfer over credit to primary number, $10 a day, use it to buy data or calls, use second sim data in a wireless hotspot or tablet. Boom!

  • I just got 4 from Woolworths Melbourne CBD QV store. $5 each. They had a printed $5 price tag and had handwriting on it that said "NO RAIN CHECKS".

I think there were more but not sure…

  • -4

I would never buy Telstra sims no matter what after the last 2 pre-paid sims!! Took forever to activate then have to chat to them on that 24/7 chat room and then takes another 24 hours and more chatting in order to set up the account! Scar for life!

    • +2

For my it was always a breeze.. Never had an issue

    • -3

Me too, took about a week to get going, live chat and phone. Awful.

      • Yes I had so many problems with online activation. Maybe it depends on the activation time? I usually do it on weekend or early morning.

        • Avoid Saturday nights.

  • Many are left in store in woolworths carlton. The lady at store did not know the special price until I ask her to check it. And I only take two :D

  • 1 of my last ones (another $5 deal) was dead on activation, I went to 24/7 chat and a rep fixed it up in about 30 minutes - wasn't lightning fast but certainly not 24 hours wait time. Of that 30 minutes, 20 was spent with her asking me questions (I'm pretty sure she was new there)

I'm buying at least 4 more of these today.

I've found the $30 Google Play credit incredibly handy - I've bought every app I could ever need, now I'm upgrading existing apps to paid versions, most of these weren't already paid versions because the paid version offers no extra features but now I'm happy to support the devs and it's almost free to me.

    • Charlestown NSW 2290 - out of stock
(outta stock before I got there)

Belmont NSW 2280 - have plenty, grabbed 4.

  • Can anyone confirm me it is the starter kit for mobile phones not for tablets for $5. Grabed 2 starter kits for $5 each from local woolies and just found out it's for tablets when I got home.

    • +1

Depends entirely on your choice of which offer to activate as you'll find those sims themselves are identical, the rest is packaging.

      • Thanks for clarifying. Have refunded those 2 tablet starter kits anyway. Bought another 4 from another woolies.

    • Doesn't matter whether it says tablets or phone. When you go on the online activation it will ask you if the sim is for mobile phone or mobile broadband and it will give you offers accordingly.

  • Woolworths Hurstville said that they did not receive notice to promote it…..

    • Woolworths Hurstville is useless, they said to me they do not sell starter packs at all, just $2 what a load of BS

  • Just got 8 from woolies in Mossman. There's my mobile hotspot data for the year!

    • -1

Th 7.6 gigs is only a one off not all year round after special your $30 only nets you 1.3 gigs no bonus 5 gigs and no bonus night 1.3 gigs. Telstra is not known to be generous, you're thinking Vodafone.

      • +1

The default tablet offer is 3gb.

      • I asked this in the coles thread.. so there isn't really a point in getting more than 2 of these starter kits as the 5gb bonus is only for 1 month before Jan 25? So the max you can enjoy the 5gb bonus is for 2 months? Activate one now then activate the 2nd one on Jan 24?

        • +1

After the promotion you will still receive a minimum of $30 recharge credit and 3GB data when activating on the Data Pass offer. Also the promotion may be extended or return at a later date.

        • @sween64:

ideally i would like to use it as a hot spot for when my TPG's 1.5GB runs out. thank you for letting me know. i have a couple more questions:

i presume you're talking about the month pass for tablets? is it possible to get the 5GB $50 annual pass with these starter kits somehow?

        • +1

@CVonC: Yes. That is the offer I'm talking about.

No. Starter Kits can typically only be used for the $30 value that's printed on the cover.

You may get very lucky and a CSR will combine an already purchased $30 Starter Kit with a $20 recharge voucher.

        • @sween64:

Thank you again. So from my understanding you use that $30 recharge credit to purchase a one month 3gb data pass only with no Google play nor calls/text or you can use it to get $30 Google play/calls/text + 1.3gb (and 1.3gb @ night if the bonus is still on by then)?

        • +1

          @CVonC:

No. The Data Pass offer is $30 recharge credit AND 3GB.

        • @sween64:

So why doesn't everyone just get that instead of the standard (if there was no 5gb bonus ie)?
