  • what? when did the Amaysim thing happen

      • +1

$70m seems like a lot for 170,000 subscribers on say ~$20 plans on average and their recurring operating costs minus Optus fees nearing maybe $1m p.a. As Optus resellers they lack any infrastructure. Must be extra long-term ambitions…

  • under Amaysim management now

And not a word from either of them about this (I'm a customer of both.)

Do we get our $20 'deposit' back again?

  • Yes, let's crack another joke…

    • +9

This 'deal' is another joke…..sketchy practices by this company in the past when it comes to freebies, deposits and discinnection fees

      So theres that.

Then - and heres the icing - the OP has included detailed instructions so you can go out of your way to ensure he gets a $25 referrer credit?

OP - in the interests of full transperancy, can you please update your post to overtly state that the referee does not get any credit, only the referrer? some ozbargainers may assume its a similar concept to COTD etc, where both parties get a credit, Thanks

        • +11

You've called me a lot of unjustified, spiteful names before but bully is a new one… In fact id say you are the bully - anyone who calls you out or questions the validity of your 'bargains' and you fly off the handle into a tirade of personal abuse

And stalker? puhleese…i was responding to another users comment on a front page deal

as you said once before "dude, get over yourself"

          Its in the wiki

Im sure it is, but as i said its in the interest of FULL transparency, just to go the extra mile and make the decision easier for other ozbargainers…just common courtesy really

        • -5

          @pointless comment:

Then - and heres the icing - the OP has included detailed instructions so you can go out of your way to ensure he gets a $25 referrer credit?

Incorrect. There is a wiki and the ozbargainer is free to choose any member they wish to refer. No where in the OP have i solicited the use of my referral.

At the end of the day, bullying is in your blood. And so is stalking

          Have a great day

        • +2

          @easternculture: So. Many. Assumptions.

And the whole post is at best an implied solicitation - give people some credit mate

        • +2

@pointless comment: I didn't realize the referral thing was phone numbers. Someone spiteful could totally sign other people up for a bunch of annoying callback thingies. :>>>

        • +1

@mightyfes: haha, i get what you are getting at, and im sure you are kidding but in all sincerity, please dont prank call EC or anyone else who lists there mobile to grab at free phone credit - he already shames himself regulalry on this site - as in this very post - it doesnt need to carry on into personal lfe

        • @mightyfes: Yeah this new referral thing is so stupid. Sure! Put your phone number for anyone one the internet to so just so you can have a chance at getting $25. Not to mention vaya will not automatically give it to you when you fulfill all the condition but you have to actively follow it up.

        • @highdealer:

I have a feeling that the referral system is intended for friends and family of the referrer only, eg. people would probably already have your number or you wouldnt mind giving your number too. Not intended for people to put their number in every forum and website on the internet for strangers to see.

        • @Ughhh: your feeling is 100% correct. At the end of the day companies dont care where referrals come from, but posts such as this one serve to highlight how some posters put up "deals" for monetary gain.

  • +1

is it possible to port my number over to vaya from amaysim if they are both the same company?

    • Vaya is owned by Amaysim now but they've said business as normal / continue to run seperately. So it should be just the same as if they weren't together.

  • +3

First month free and get charge for extra 6 months after service cancellation.

    Also

Vaya employs 40 employees, with 10 based in Australia and another 30 in the Philippines. Mr Ogrin said no job losses are expected from the transaction.

    • +2

First month free and get charge for extra 6 months after service cancellation.

For sure. Steer clear of this deal

  • +3

I joined them last year in July I think.
When I joined the website said "First month free in July", as well as free delivery and sim card. I think I did have to pay the deposit though, so that makes this a good deal.

I ended up signing up on the last day of July, but when I checked the website to check my usage and all that it was "First month free in August".
Basically as far as I can tell the first month is always free, but they change the name of the month on the website to make you think it's a limited time deal.

I remember having some gripes with them because I thought I got charged for the first month, but it turned out to be deposit. When I called, the offshore customer service in India was most unhelpful and kept telling me that because I signed up in July but activated in August I didn't get the first month free which is a load of bull. I actually did get the first month free, but customer service was too incompetent to figure out that what I was charged was the deposit.

Apart from their idiot billing department I haven't had any issues with them.

  • Have to pay in advance for the 2nd month though. hmmm

    • Put a reminder on your phone to cancel a few days before your billing date and they will refund the amount back to your credit card

      • But in't there a $30 disconnection fee?

        • Mobile Disconnection Fee = $30.00

The cost incurred to process the disconnection of your number. This fee can be void by transferring your number to another provider. You will receive an invoice the next billing period after you leave us. For all other services, please refer to the Critical Information Summary of your plan which details the relevant Disconnection Fee.

        • @oz-dave:

I don't think this applies. The FAQ and T&C have NOT been updated. They still have reference to free social media access

          What is Free Social Access?
Modified on: Sun, 28 Sep, 2014 at 7:33 PM

Free Social Access means you get unlimited mobile access to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, eBay, LinkedIn and MySpace within Australia. This requires a compatible handset. Excludes use of Facebook SMS and other social media alert services. Access via any other means including 3rd party applications will incur additional data charges. Additional data charges will also apply for any external links accessed via these sites. Some handsets are set to seek data automatically (eg. email or other apps). This will use the internet and in some cases, charges will apply.

        • +5

@easternculture: Not updated, so when someone has an issue that can quote your post and everything will be ok? I'm sure the TIO will back you up!

If they cant handle the details of updating their website, how well will they handle other details when issues arise.

Dick Smith issues ended painfully for many.

I never got back my deposit when I left. It just became too much to chase them up continually. Given that experience, I would have no confident of getting back any prepaid month two from these guy's.

          f1ng3rs below says it all

I also wouldnt trust them to give you your beloved referral bonus.

        • @easternculture:

          MySpace

          LOL

        • @RockyRaccoon:

I refereed one person. I had to ask via email and then they credited my bonus.

So they do it, but have to remind them.

  • +6

Vaya do this offer regularly. This is not a first for them.

    Some examples:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/137002
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/90397
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177947
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/210036

Still a good offer but I wouldn't call it a first for Vaya and possibly their best deal ever.

    • A first where its completely free i.e. no deposit, no setup, free delivery

    • Nothing wrong with vodafone so far. Coverage good. Service good. Plan I'm on also good.

  • +5

So they "removed the deposit" but have a "second month deposit".

In other words all they did is change the name not remove it. lel.

  • +8

We moved my wife's mobile number over to Amaysim back on 27th Nov and have only just got the $20 deposit back from VAYA.

They made it as difficult as possible to process the refund and countless emails were exchanged verifying this and that. It was only the threat of the TIO in the final email that made the refund happen.

  • +1

If one uses all their allowances, vaya will cut you off, then one has to use someone else's phone to call them to re-instate the connection for a fee.

  • Just to be clear, this is not like amaysim where it is a prepaid service yeah? Like you can still get charged of all the other stuff not included in the plan?

  • +15

Be careful with any "free month" deals from Vaya - lots of reports of people not actually getting the free month once they left & all payments/months connected were added up. Refer to the huge Whirlpool forums post about the issue. Not sure if they fixed it yet, the owner of Vaya advised he would look into it & get back to us but never did… Avoid Vaya, not worth the hassle.

    • +7

I cancelled a couple of months back and haven't received my 'security deposit' back yet. So I guess your free month will be paid for out of this in the end!

    • +2

I had exactly this experience when porting out when the $20 "security deposit" was introduced, and ended up having to go to the TIO to get it resolved after weeks of back and forth with Vaya directly. I would never go near the company again.

    • Can we contact credit card provider for charge back?

  • +1

    Do they use optus network?

    • +1

Got it, they use optus as its stated on their website :)

  • +1

dont bother calling vaya, unless u wanna speak with a clueless filipino person

    • because that is of course exclusive to Vaya….

    • Filipino has got nothing to do with whether they are clueless or not. In fact, it doesn't add any weight to your statement whatsoever.

  • I got nothing but positive reviews from people I spoke to about Vaya.
Glad I didn't actually sign up with them though.
Seems like I've saved myself a massive headache.

    • +5

3 of us with Vaya in our house for over two years and no headache, just great value and 4G coverage through Optus.

Its a fact of life that the dissatisfied make the most noise and any mention of Vaya brings out a number of haters. If they were that bad they would be out of business. I have had no significant problems and have no regrets about a switch that has saved me a lot of money for the same service I paid Optus a lot more for previously.

According to ratings, Today Tonight is one of the best 5 shows on TV. Don't believe everything you read. See for yourself, easy and free to port out if not happy.

    • +4

I have been using them for 4 years now.

For a mobile service, they deliver. For the low cost, you get as stated.

The problems come with customer service, they have people training them in call centers that tell them what to say because they're not sure. They can give you wrong advice and tend to hang up on you. But, you shouldn't need to call them.

They answer emails pretty fast and usually have knowledgeable people on there.

I don't like their "security deposit". There might be a hassle getting it back, but that's okay.

I haven't been overcharged in my 4 years or had any amount taken out where it's not warranted.

So, you haven't got much to lose really. Any issues you might have, if you think about it, you're still up. Since the next comparison offer is $8 (or so) more a month.

      • Agreed. The call centre is poor and you can be on hold for ages but Vaya is far from the only company using overseas call centres offering a similar experience. Email is ok and as long as its not massively urgent (can't an adjustment wait a few days?) this is fine to resolve issues.

The call and data service is exactly the same as I had with Optus for the 3 years before I moved at around a third of the price.

  • +3

There is no month free, (been told by Vaya they meant it was remaining of the month! How ridiculous) But they won't refund your balance, nor your initial deposit, when you leave.
They won't honor any offer they claim and you need to waste time over each, plus other issues.
I have one account cancelled over a year ago and still more than $40 left behind.
TIO, also wasn't that much of time saving option and they do not punish these overseas foreign companies to stop that dirty habits once and for all.
I call these vulturous buzzards as dirty money harvesters

    • +4

      Agreed.

I can honestly say, despite some of the torturous battles I had with Voda a few years ago, I've never been so happy to churn away from any Telco as I was to ditch LC/Vaya!!! I won't even get into the dramas I had with them trying to organise additional credit during a family emergency…vulturous buzzards is indeed an apt description!

On a positive note, as other have noted, despite churning away a couple of months ago, my $18.18 will finally be refunded to my account as of yesterday…thanks in no small part to a barrage of emails & resultant threat of TIO involvement…thanks so much for your integrity, Vaya. :/

      Vaya con el Diablo…never again.

      • +2

[scumbaggery update] My $18.18 is now $12.xx…they've somehow deducted some nonsense fees from it…hello, TIO!!! :/

        • +1

Of course, this is the commission they charge for the provisioning of the referral bonuses :)

    • Watch out people who may use international services 40cents to send a international text and its not included in your call credit and crazy expensive for calling international. Considering some providers include international txt or charge 10cents per text, Vaya are ripping people off on international services. Amaysim is running on the Optus network and can charge 10cents per international txt and includes unlimited international text on its cap plans.

      • +1

Been texting for 20 years and have never sent an international text. And it's a specific 32 countries as well.
Do the plan(s) you're referring to give $650 of calls, unlimited local texts and 1.5GB (charged per KB) for $18/month?

        • As far as I am aware all Vaya plans charge 40 cents for international texts. I understand some people don't text internationally so this plan may suit domestic use callers. But Telstra is better value in my opinion just buy a cheap starter pack for $10 and capped prepaid plans gives you some credit which can be used on international calls and texts and domestic use and on google play.

Yes, amaysim is limited to 32 countries, I should have included that in my previous post, non included countries texts are 10cents (4 times cheaper than Vaya).

    • +1

May be going out on a limb here but i think they may just be negging you, your credibility, and the guise of this 'deal', not so much the telco itself

    • +2

When you buy a company you buy the Goodwill AND Badwill. If Amaysim didn't factor in the Bad with the Good then it's their problem.

Now a few months doesnt prove that they are any better, its going to take a long time to repair Ben's damage. Dick Smith was supposed to be "fixed" with new managers, and look what happened there.

Just like endless referral posts give the impression that its not the sharing of bargains that is the motivating factor for posting a "bargain".

      • -4

FYI if you look at the history, I posted reference to the referral after I posted the deal. I was unaware of the referral until I was researching vaya after posting the deal.

        • +1

I doubt it given the fact most of your 'deals' involve credit mining…probably an oversight

Either way its moot - this post has been negged off the front page, as it deserved… And i actually forgot to neg it myself!

          Have a great day :)

        • -1

          @pointless comment:

this post has been negged off the front page

          Still on the front page.

        • @eastern culture: oh good , its back…should generate some More negs for you in the thread at the top of the page.

In case of self delusion ill break it down for ya; you got torched dude, yet again

  • I had terrible customer service with vaya. Took me about 6 months before i finally left and wasn't charged.

  • Been on Vaya for years without any technical hiccups.
However, I referred a friend and sent the appropriate emails but never got my referral bonus.

Should be noted that his deal is fairly standard, nothing special.

Regarding Intl charges… you can easily bar these options online.

    • +1

You have to ask them to give you the referral bonus. They choose to ignore all referral bonus unless you email them to ask for it.

      • Yep, I have tried but no luck.
"And sent the appropriate emails but never got my referral bonus"

  • +1

I'm still waiting to get my $20 deposit back from May last year. These are useless!

  • +1

OP do you work for Vaya ?

  • +1

LOL. Vaya! Leaving them was the best decision I made. Billing thieves! Always seemed to overcharge & deposit were never returned! What makes you think culture has changed when the same customer service staff are running it? Didn't they retain their jobs?

  • +4

The first thing to get it right is refund those who got ripped off by the previous shonky business. That dude Ben from vaya is a true a**hole. Unless they change their dodgy billing practice and retrain their call centre staff to not using the previous dodgy tactics to address customer complaints, changing ownership to Amaysim won't help clear their dirty business model

  • Just a warning with Vaya. If you want to stop your month to month account. You can't simple stop. You need to pay $50 to cancel the number. The other alternative which vaya tells you to do is but prepaid card from another and churn to that number and then stop.

    • So if you want to port your number out you're OK?

  • when i hear the word VaYa. I regret to contract with them for 3yrs when i stranfer my number to other provider. fees adding up …
STAY AWAY VAYA. your life will must happier.

    • Been with them for 3 years and my life will must very happy already.

  • +1

So what I'm getting from this thread is their CS is pretty good?

  • vaya is a one weird service provider. It does not allow upgrading plans. It charges random fees. I was charged security deposit after being with them for one year. The did not give me one month free. They kept charging me even after porting out. Happy that I am out of vaya.

  • +2

Looks like the provider is very dodgy. I think ozbargain should blacklist dodgy business.

  • +1

By all means if you want to take the risk with Vaya then go for it, but MANY others have had shocking experiences with them (myself included) so take that into consideration at the very least. Overcharged my partner to the point where on average she was paying around the same as an Optus deal until she left (and didn't receive her security refund)

    • +1

Seriously their business practice was so dodgy that even as a ozbargainer I consider it outweigh any benefit. Actually there are other way to get cheap unlimited plan on prepaid anyway using starter kit when it is on special. This Vaya is not really worth the hassles that you have to deal with.

  • +1

Terrible customer service with Vaya. Avoid at all costs. Good luck trying to get out of them.

I canceled my plan after finding out they've been charging me $10 extra a month for 2+ years (almost $250) for 'keeping a legacy plan', WHICH BTW - Is an absolute bullshit admin fee. It does not cost $10 to 'upkeep an old plan'. It was automated. I got charged the exact same amount of money every day on the same hour, for the last few years. They take you for idiots, I studied business and IT. That shit is totally automated.

I even paid the bullshit '$30 cancellation fee', they still charged me for the next month of 'usage'. It was a nightmare to get them to refund the money. I ended up giving up and just let them keep the extra month's fee. Spent hours talking to these 'customer service experts' who barely speak English and wouldn't even credit me what they owed, not even the 'security deposit' nonsense.

I threatened to file a complaint and post negative reviews, their manager said go ahead. I'm not bothered to file against them, but i'm sure as (profanity) going to spent the next $250 of my time writing negative reviews.

Side note: The delete all negative comments on their Facebook, hide their customer rating, and delete comments that their PR can't answer.

Even after this 'new management' with Amaysim, it's still the same shitty people running it.

    Avoid avoid avoid.

    • Praise jeevus

    • …they've been charging me $10 extra a month for 2+ years… They take you for idiots…

    • +1

If it is the same dodgy management team running this Vaya then it is "same sh*t, different smell". Avoid at all cost !!!!

  • +1

First month free in Febuary, as in…only free for the month of Febuary, or free for a month if you sign up in Febuary?

  • +1

Deposit is just prolonged and signing up for one month will juSt lead to more headaches when you port out

    Terrible customer service
