edit whooosh.. price changed at 12

    • +3

poor guy could've kept his thread if only he updated his prices

      • Should have done his research first.

        • +3

Exactly, so many people just posting things because it says "sale",a quick search showed that it was a terrible price for the 65".

        • @F-22:

wanted to be first to post I suppose :/

      • +1

        Ohh poor poor guy lol

Guys, which one is better sony 65" X7500D 4K TV or Hisense 65" Series 7 65M7000 4K HDR LED LCD TV ?

    • +1

would go into a store like TGG and check the quality on them :P if there is one close by
they usually have them on display

      • will be definitely doing that, just wanted to know regarding features and options…
        Thanks

        • +2

I literally did the comparison yesterday. The hisense is nice (3 yr warranty to) but low to no app support. Only Netflix and sbs on demand. Android tv made the choice much easier for me.

I found the screen quality far better on the Sony also.

        • +3

@jimbobaus: then why did you say hisense is nice, with low to no app support and inferior screen quality?

        • +2

          @aec:

Scale of rubbish, ok, nice, nicer, nicest? :)

        • @Stix:
The screen on the hisense is nice as in not bad but the song was def better.

        • @aec: LOL

    • +2

I can't comment on this particular model, but I have a Hisense TV in my kitchen and turning it on from stand by takes so friggin long. If you're in a hurry to turn it on to catch something, like the forecast, a goal, a big moment or whatever, chance are you've missed it.

That doesn't mean the 4K Hisense will be just as slow, but I'd probably go there in store to test it for yourself.

      • +6

Hisense are pretty notorious for being slow to turn on. We have a whole bunch at work and they're rubbish.

    • I have the Hisense only things I don't like 1. Can't record and be on another input,, record FTA and watch Netflix or bluray,, 2. Having to change picture setup ever so slightly for different shows even on Netflix 4K. I think some blacks are just too black and you can't brighten the shadows,, I have a pana plasma 55" even though it is older the menu is more refined, add an ext drive with movie's and it will show preview

    • +1

Not sure about the Sony but I recently went with the Hisense 70m7000 and am more than happy… I compared to other teles for over 2 months and found it to give the best blacks apart from Oled ofcourse…the 257 zone dimming seems to have made a big difference… Most of the people talking bad about hisense are probably talking about older models. The m7000 has fantastic picture quality for the price. Agree that the smart features are limited though but good enough for someone like me who already has a nexus TV but even that hardly gets a use now since the TV comes Netflix and YouTube aps (among others) are included which are my most used aps… Only use nexus TV for kodi now.

Edit: gaming in game mode is also good… No issues with input lag for me (mostly play fifa 17)

Edit 2: hisense is max 420nit brightness though so wont be true hdr… Not sure about Sony but if that's important then I suggest u do your research

    • Bought the Hisense on Wednesday, returned today. Build quality awesome, but got two lines across the screen not so great. Ghost images is really bad on fast motion. TGG at Moorabbin told me it's normal to have ghost image, they were made like that.. wtf! Give me my money back…

      • @emonkey… Weird…. I have had this for over a few weeks now and ghosting issues here-even when watching pink ball cricket… Maybe you had a defective set?

  • Are these guys going to do an OLED?
Looks like it's just LG ans Samsung for now with Panasonic due to release next year but with an LG panel I believe?

    • It seems like Sony would rather try to promote their subjectively inferior technology :p

    • +1

Samsung hasn't got any current OLED models (their first and only OLED was KN55S9C in 2013), but they are working on a QLED TV. Panasonic are releasing another OLED soon using LG panel and hopefully a bit more affordable this time since their last one was $10k+. Sony are stubbornly sticking with LCD to the very end even though they were the first to release an OLED TV (XEL-1 in 2008).

      • Wait, what? They are using LCD still? Those thicker panels with CCFL?

        • If it was only thicker panels it would be fine. However LCD also suffers from inferior contrast, viewing angle and response time. Also light bleed on edge lit and haloing on FALD models. There's a reason why many phone and TV manufacturers are making the switch to OLED. Due to its reliance on a backlight, LCD is a fundamentally flawed technology. It's time to move on.

        • @Ryballs: It's flawed but pixel degradation and burn in are issues with OLED. Nothing is perfect.

If OLED was the same price as LCD-LED I would gladly make the tradeoff for the better contrast and true blacks, but since they seem to cost 3-4 times the price of the equivalent sized LCD-LED, it's much harder to justify.

On a phone, I love OLED. Samsung's phones don't appear to have any significant price differential against any other top brand smartphones. But TVs carry a hefty price premium over standard LCD/LED.

        • +1

"LED" TV's are still LCD, they just have LED backlights instead of CCFL ones.

      • -1

Sony don't do any quasi-OLED, they are waiting on RGB subpixel OLED to be commercially viable. The reason why LG is pushing out OLED so quickly is because they've lifted commercial quantities by introducing the white pixel as P-OLED meaning inherently they are already less sharp than the same resolution on RGB panels like LCD. Samsung won't release an AMOLED tv because it suffers the same problem except worse because they are pentile arrangement subpixels which can be as much as 50% less sharp than the same RGB subpixel arrangement, for the same reason it's why Samsung was so insistent to push 2k screens on phones when everyone was still on 1080p.

Perhaps some of the qualities of OLED is enough for some to buy LG's P-OLED TVs, but for me I'd rather sit on my current 1080p LCD TV or buy a cheap 4k TV as a stop-over replacement.

        • Sorry that's untrue that that WOLED is less sharp than RGB LCD. The reason why they don't use WOLED on mobiles is because of power consumption, not sharpness. Sounds like you're confusing WOLED with WRGB LCD. From LG E6 OLED review on rtings.com: "Native 4k content looks sharp and very defined."

    • Hate to break it to you, but at the start of this year at the unveiling of the new tv lineup, samsung's CEO basically said that they are committed to quantum led so they aren't going to touch OLED for another 3 years. Which is a bit sad IMO, we need more competition in the OLED market to bring the prices down.

Thanks Tightarse, I've told all my friends about how tight you are.

    • +5

      Speaking from experience or….?

      • Yeah I think physically

  • Is the 65" HDR10?

And is it any good or is the Samsung 8000 65" better but $1.5k more

    • Yes it's hdr10

      • Thanks

  • Would these deals also be valid at in-store Sony?

    • Online only.

      • Bugger… was thinking about using Westfield gift cards at their kiosk..

        • +1

Actually it might be worth checking in store mate. The $10 earphone deal yesterday was being offered at the same price in a brick and mortar store

        • @Zarcady:

Crossing my fingers… Can anyone who visited in store today confirm if the TVs were on sale at this price?

  • Can we jbhi fi to price beat ? They are selling for 2400

    • Tried this morning.
The store I went to showed me a memo saying they are not to price match as it's a one day deal.

      • +18

Is it just me or does that sound stupid?

        • +1

Apparently not just you - but it doesn't sound stupid at all. Obviously they've decided it's not worth losing money on these TVs.

    • -1

      pls report back.

    • Do they have an advertised price beat policy?
If so then they can't really make any excuses unless it's spelled out in the terms of their advertised policy.
Also try TGG and HN.. I think they stock some of these TVs

    • GG matched the price, I put a deposit over the phone.
Will pick it up this afternoon.

      • can you buy through Gift card or something ?

        • Can't see why not. FYI I used AMEX over the phone.

      • Forgot to mention that negotiation was done over the phone.
They rung me back to confirm.

        • Is there any amex deal I missed ?

        • @dumkaze: Only the one for HN I believe

  • so… I missed the 49" X8000 deal the other week.
    What's the X8000 have over the X7000?
I wanna use it as a hybrid TV/monitor

    • The x8000 is the newer model and has better blacks according to rtings.com (x800). The x7000 (x700) has a better angle-view apparently.

    • +2

      https://community.sony.com/t5/4K-Ultra-HD-TV/KD-49X7000D-vs-…
Seems the main difference is the backlighting and the x8000 has 'Triluminous display' - which sounds suspiciously like a term of marketing fluff.

      • Redacted.

  • Thanks for posting TA! IMHO not sure if these are great deals though - I bought the Samsung UA55KU6000W for $956 during the recent GG ebay sale so the 49" for $999 seem a bit too much. Also, when I was looking around, I found out that the X7000D model range may NOT be HDR enabled out of the box - from what I understand they are HDR capable but you need a firmware update first. This would be fine except that Sony is yet to release the firmware update (at least not at the time I was looking around). If someone who bought one of these can confirm -that would be really helpful.

    • +1

I bought the x7000D almost two weeks ago. It's HDR enabled after a firmware update, and you also have to turn on it correctly in the options — not very obvious. I've been playing Final Fantasy XV the past few days (which has a graphical setting designed specifically for HDR) and it looks fantastic.

      • Thnaks for the confirmation !

  • How is the Sony compared with Panasonic TH-55DX600U
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/panasonic-55-inches139cm-uhd-…
Please ignore the price difference - I brother works in Panasonic and can buys this model at $1k.

So the question is Panasonic is bigger 55inch vs Sony is 4K. Which one should I go for

    • Panasonic has superior technology for image quality IMHO :)

  • -1

Damn… Sony X850D would be the ideal for gaming

  • +1

I am not sure why it is not posted but seems you can use cashrewards also for this deal
    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/sony

    • Also, from memory, I think there is a Spend $60 or more on your amex with Sony and get $30 cashback - valid until 3rd December?

  • +2

So tempted on the 65" but the gf would cut my nuts off.

    • +1

here.. buy this drone to film it and you'll make a fortune on youtube

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/279770

      $49

      • That's a remote control boat.
Unless you plan on getting your nuts cut off in the water, not really great.

        • That drone detaches from the boat to fly independently but it's still not really great as the camera on it is a bit potato.

  • +1

    65" X7500D 4K HDR TV

    Motionflow XR 200Hz = 50Hz

    I wouldn't buy a TV without Motionflow XR 800Hz in 2017.

    • This is the deal you banged on about for 8 months LOL

    • What do you mean ?

  • I recently purchased the X7000D and read the reviews after about the black looks more like gray in low light, which is true and I was a little bit disappointed but apart from that it's awesome. The dedicated netflix button is very cool.

  • That's cheap for a 4K 49", a good monitor for your PC. :)

  • +3

I wonder if I my partner would notice if I swapper our 3 year old Sony 60" for a 65" 4k - this deal is pretty tempting.

  • I'd love to hear you guys's opinion: should I invest the same money in a bigger screen (50inch of other brands) or is 4k really worth it?

    • It depends if you can get your hands on 4K content that you'd actually watch. 4K is AMAZING… but nothing is in 4K! I think it will take a good year before you get a lot of stuff in 4K. FTA is still moving to FHD, streaming 4K you'd have to either pay for Netflix (which doesn't have that many shows in 4K) or find stuff on Youtube. So for future proofing yes 4K is a must. But for NOW… perhaps bigger screen is better for you if your upgrade cycle is fairly short (ie you'd buy a new tv in 2 years time).

    • +2

Depends on how big your living room is and how far away you sit. A bigger screen in 1080p will look worse, not better. It will look less sharp.

4K is better the closer you sit, or the bigger the screen is.

If you're happy with the size of your current TV, get the 4K one. If you find yours is too small, get the bigger 1080p.

  • +4

On the second day of Christmas Tightarse gave to me,
A ripper deal on some Sony TV….

  • What is the refresh rate? If it is 120Hz I think I will jump on this. Anybody knows?

    • 50Hz for 65" X7500D 4K HDR TV

      • Can it also do 60hz at least?

      • +2

It Hertz, that it can only do 50Hz

      • Here's the deal you have waited 8 months for hahaha

  • Seems that a software update date 30 Nov 2016 is available for the KD-49X7000D

  • With the 65" I have found conflicting information. Is this 8 bit or 10 bit?

    • +2

All 8-Bit TVs in this post.

      • +2

        No they aren't.

        • SO….

          The 65" IS 10 bit?

        • @Morty:

Yes, and they probably all are.

I'm not aware of Sony making any 8 bit HDR panels, only Samsung.

Every Sony (and LG) HDR TV I've seen has been 10 bit.

        • Only X9300D and X8500D series are 10 bit and all older models are 8-bit.

        • @PW:

Nope, the 7500 series were given a firmware update and are 10 bit.

I can't say with certainty about the smaller ones, but from my understanding Sony released a firmware update for HDR for a number of models.

  • Apart from the 65”, the click frenzy had a better deal considering you get the updated models (8000 series) for the same price….
    Still a good deal nonetheless

  • Friends, I was considering buying a 4K tv recently. The 65" X7500D seems like a fair price. The question is is there any better for the price? Especially in regards to picture quality. Audio would obviously be replaced by a 2.1 or 5.1 set up.
