    Problem is with international calls

    • +22

I know, I just leave them on the line for a while and eventually they hang up, bloody overseas telemarketers.

      • +2

i thought he meant the plan doesn't include international calls.

    • +2

This plan includes IDD, free international calls to 10 countries

      • What's IDD? International Digit Dialer?

      • They only throw in these deals to make it seem like you're getting something really great for free. The reality is that quite few people use the free calls. Ironically they offer free international calls after a time where the majority has switched to Skype, Viber, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, etc.

        • +1

yeah the international if you are calling friends or family isn't a big deal, but i hate how telstra still charge $1 per minute for local calls , means less than 1000 minutes per month on local voice class, optus and voda do unlimited local calls at these price points now eg $40 10gb data and unlimited local calls.

      • Thanks but I just checked the M plan says international calls credits is N/A. Where is the reference to this.

  • If you have a service with Telstra (cable) can you receive a further discount?

    • What further is the discount?

      • Some carriers (Optus) offer another x$ off if you bundle with another service.

    • +2

not afaik - unlike optus :(

  • This makes me $42.50 telstra Amway play a little more expensive:(

    • Yeah, the Amway deal is supposed to be $10 off for 12 months, so it will jump up to $52.50 later this year.

Not sure if I should re-contract with this offer. I will get 1 less GB and limit on calls but will be paying less.

      • The sad thing is its actually a 24mth contract

  • +1

I was in a Telstra store over the weekend and they seemed very keen to sell plans (a lot more than usual). I asked for a BYO Plan with 8gb and was offered $35 per month, similar to the Medium offer. I only use around 5gb a month so I'd rather save the $5 per month. But the point is have a chat with the local store and see what they can do you for :)

    • Interesting I will try that

    • nice :)

    • Would that also work with a data share sim? Sounds like a bargain!

      • Not sure but worth a shot

    • Very interested in what the person in store offered you. Could you elaborate please?

I know the Mx plan gives 5GB for $40/mth. Was that a $5 discount off that?

    • Do you have a screenshot to prove this? $35 for 8Gb of data is quite a bargain considering their $35 BYO plan only offers 500mb as advertised. And the BYO $50 plan as a base is 5GB + bonus 5GB which was only introduced as an XMas offer (even after a $10 discount ($40) your offer value/money wise is quite impressive).

    • Can you share part of the email you would have gotten after signing up for that? There's no plan on Telstra's site that matches that.

    • they still seem reluctant to do cheap unlimited local calls …. i have the $1 per minute local rate thing …. i've never exceeded it but if you did the bill shock would be severe.

also they charge a monthly fee for the data sharing across sims….. optus are a once off free of $5 for data sharing, so think my $40 per month, 10gb data, unlimited local calls and once off $5 data sharing sim is a better deal.

i actually tried all 3 carriers to see if i got better coverage at home and on my way to work on the train (sandringham line) ….. all had the same coverage levels.

      • optus are a once off fee of $5 for data sharing

apparently not anymore for new customers :(

    • +1

I switched some services to the $50 10gb byo plan. Asked for discount and got $10 off all the plans. So $40 for 10gb.

      • That's what I got. $50 plan 10GB byo with a $10 discount except I was an existing customer, my contract just finished and I just asked for a cheaper deal.

        • +1

Yeah just gotta ask. Good deal as Optus was crap in my area. Jesus better speeds and reception with telstra.

    • How does this work mate? I don't see any byo plan with 8Gb. The MX plan is 5GB and M plan is 10GB

    • Did anyone else able to get the elusive 8gb for $35/month offer. Bargainbot12 anymore details mate.

  • The Unidays offer says "For UNiDAYS members only who take up a new services or port in. Offer excludes Go Mobile Plus Online BYO Plans (Mx)." Just wondering if the deal actually went through or do you get an error? Was considering switching to Telstra BYO plan.

    • if you have any issues then live chat (which i did to upgrade) :)

      • What did you say to them? I have chatted with 2 people already, and they have been unable/unwilling to give me the offer as I am on the $40/7gb plan currently.

        • simply that i want to upgrade and that the unidays signup page/process has an error that won't let me do so

i also signed up to the previous unidays plan via live chat, as have others

try another chat or escalate to a supervisor :)

  • +1

    Good offer

Telstra's IDD offers leave a fair bit to be desired over the competition though. Optus includes their IDD minutes for 32 countries, Vodafone has 1000 minutes to some countries and 300 to another pool of countries…

  • +4

wish the $1000 credit can used for google play 😜

  • Thanks for posting OP! Went and added a extra sim for data share - total of $45 per month (10.1GB total) very happy!

    • how does the data share work? IS there an option to add it on? or can you do it with a prepaid card?

      • ahhh i figured it out.. it says data share is 100MB? thats a bit crap isn't it?

      • can go to a store and get a $5 data share sim or you can add it in your online order too usually.

  • Agree with the above ^ they seem more open to selling than usual.

Managed to also get this price for the M Plan ($50 - $10discount), without Unidays. Just by recontracting for 12 months.

Perhaps they're starting to feel the pinch of companies like Optus constantly offering better BYO deals.

    • Tried both through chat & phone sales a couple of hours ago and had no luck at all at negotiating the price down. Seems to depend on the person - will try again tomorrow!

      • +1

I've found you tend to have more luck if you choose "Disconnections" either via Phone or Chat.

If you did this already.. Just keep trying. You'll get somebody willing to budge eventually.

        • Just to follow up for others who have had no luck so far: just tried again through Telstra chat and got the M plan with a $10/month discount + complimentary Apple Music subscription. :)

    • +1

Managed to also get this price for the M Plan ($50 - $10discount), without Unidays. Just by recontracting for 12 months.

though presumably without bonus included IDD?

    • i was optus , went telstra to try and get better coverage on the train ….. coverage was the same so went back to optus ….. optus $40 deals are hard to beat.

  • +1

Got 5gb for $35. Pretty happy with that. Apple Music is also free for 6 months so saves me on that too.

    • +2
    • Sounds like the MX plan. How did you get $5 off mate? Just live chat or in store

      • Yeah, live chat - go straight to disconnections

    • "Hello. I'm looking at Go Mobile Plus 5GB plan, recently on UniDays $10 off sales, i.e. $40/mo. Some students bargained for $35 and got it, so I wonder if I can get that price too."

Answer-> "I apologise as we don't provide additional discounts for unidays as that specific campaign already includes a $10 discount. And unidays offer are only processed on this link."

      • Say you don't use much data and if you can get something cheaper for 5gb, don't mention Unidays. Although, for $5 more you can get another 5gb so that's probably a better deal.

  • what about 1300/13 numbers?

    • included :)

  • +1

TIP: To have unlimited international calls from this plan, just go to www.freeuknumber4u.com get unlimited Uk numbers and forward to international number you wish to call.

    • Nice. Thanks for sharing. I'll give it a try.

    • is this good only for UK or any other country listed on the site?

      • +1

Number is UK but has alot of countries you can forward it to.

    • Can confirm it works. Site abit flaky and took a couple of tries but got free mobile calls to the Philippines on my Woolworths $45 prepaid bundle via UK number.

And it's very clear as well but has a noticeable lag in conversation. Then again it's going around the world.

  • Does unidays check the institution info or can anyone create an account?

    • they check enrolment status after you log into your institution :)

  • +1

Anyone having issues upgrading from the old 7gb $40 plan? The Unidays $10 off thing disappears when I get to step 3 of the order process and the plan price shows $50 up the top.

Live chat person was unhelpful, saying that the unidays offer can only be done on the website.

    • Yeah, I have the same issue - I believe it's because it's only for new customers

      • Yeah the terms do state for new customers only, but OP seems to have got it somehow. The included IDD calls would be useful

    • A fair few people (myself included) have had no issues being out of contract and re-contracting to M for $40 or L for $50. There's a Whirlpool thread about how people are getting on. Not everyone is having joy but I think it's a fairly high % compared to the 'New Customers Only' offers.

  • For the information of existing customers I've been a customer since May on the BYO M plan paying $40. Contacted them tonight online regarding re contracting on this deal to score an extra 5GB. Customer service said I would have to disconnect (incurring a $108 fee) I said no and that I was disappointed with this outcome. The customer service rep then added 4GB a month free of charge without extending the current plan.

Fairly happy with this result. Have a transcript of the convo if anyone is interested.

    • you were paying $40 for 5gb, not 7gb?

and now you'll receive 9gb with no change to your contract period?

when i upgraded from 7gb to 10gb, the early termination fee was waived as i was being put on a new 12mth contract

      • Yeah I was on 5GB a month. With 500MB extra as a bonus with free one year Apple Music trial.

Now have 9.5GB and contract end date remains May this year.

  • I signed up to Optus' $36/month plan less than a week ago, so disappointed :'(

    • optus has unlimited local calls , telstra is $1 per minute and $1000 local call credits…possibly also a connection free per call……

      • possibly also a connection free per call……

        no - none :)

  • +1

I hate to ask the bleeding obvious…… But how do I get 10gb for $40? The M plan is only showing 5GB.?

    • +1

Just select it and the bonus 5GB will be added automatically during checkout

      • Oh OK… Thx for the reply.

  • I just recontracted with Optus BYO $40 (12gb of data) + Unidays and home broadband bundle discounts = $30bux p/month winning

    • +1

isn't their $40 plan 10gb, so with unidays 10% off and bundling $10 off, it would be $26?

  • How do I become a unidays member ?
