Further Info/Tips

There are two "tricks" that can be extremely beneficial as there is a common trend experienced by 7-Eleven App users: 1) If you receive an error processing your credit/debit card, you can purchase a 7-Eleven Gift Card in-store and apply the credits instantly onto the App. 2) You do not need to use the funds on your App to pay for the fuel, you can lock-in the price and pay via Cash or Card at the checkout saving the hassle of constantly topping up, gift cards, etc.

Master131 spends a lot of time creating and maintaining the script at Project Zero Three that we all know and love.

@beefabear77: Done! Rolled out the balckdiamond as per above, let me install the new app,
then there were a few steps to get it working, I had to systemize my GPS app etc. (same as last time)
If you want to know details i can link you to the exact guide i used (made for pokemon go, Ninantic have got more money than 7-11) , just PM me as i'm not sure if i'm allowed to post here?
Just locked in diesel at 107.1 in orange NSW.

              • +2

@josephnds: Got it all set up and I can successfully lock in prices from anywhere in Aus on my Samsung S7 :)

                ROM: BlackDiamond N8 Port V9.0
                GPS: GPS Joystock by theappninjas
                Systemize with Magisk Module Systemizer

Thanks to josephnds for the reddit link!

                • +1

@CodeXD: Nice! honestly, i dont think they'll ever be able to lock it down, just too many people playing Pokemon go remotely to not have a slick workaround to GPS.

                • @CodeXD: Do i need to have a custom rom for it to work? I have a HTC U11 rooted on official Android 9. I have the TWRP installed as well as Magisk. Thanks in advance.

                  • @dealsucker: No it does not have to be custom rom. There is no stock android 9 available for S7 so we've all gone the custom route.

If you already have all those installed, then you just to get the GPS app, and systemize with magisk module. I tried the systemizer but not sure if it worked as I couldnt see it in priv-app folder. I actually manually copied the gps app from data/app and updated the permissions accordingly.

                    More detailed write up here

                    • @CodeXD: Thanks a bunch mate. Will try that and update here.

                    • @CodeXD: Legend. Thanks for the update. Will go down the same route.

    • Hi Op are you "associated" with 7/11?

      • +2

Hasn't even been a member of the OzBargain community for a whole day.

        Probably a 7/11 snitch.

        • I work there and have used Nox to get cheaper fuel for almost a year. Everything ends ig.

    • Take a look at the play store rating and reviews, thousands of peoples are complaining about the new app.

    • its a sad day for the ozb community

    • Also i had a price lock in before the app updated from another state, its still showing i have an active fuel lock but its not showing the barcode to scan :/

      • +3

Barcode is in "my card" now.

    • +2

It's probably a drop in the ocean to them but wish we could see if this has any miniscule effect on their fuel sales stats.
Less of us 'savvy' users but more on their books from selling at higher prices in areas.

Looking at my current car, I used 7-Eleven fuel 74% of the time over it's 53710km life (39556km total on 7-Eleven fuel), purely because I could get the best price.
You can bet that it won't be anywhere near that much of a sway now.

    • Yeah my phone android 7 and is not compatible, will have to use my wifes phone

    • Does anyone try different simulator with andriod 9.0 above to lock in ??

      • I just locked in, in another state, Android 9 running custom ROM with Systemized GPS. Can confirm still viable,

        • Is that on your S7? I'm reading up on it now and gonna do it soon haha

          • @CodeXD: Yep, its fairly easy, especially if you've already put a custom ROM on and have TWRP installed already. took me a couple of hours to fumble through it.
have a look at the Pokemon GO spoofing guide on reddit, that's a better community dealing with tougher countermeasures.

        • Fueled up this morning Locked in NSW and claimed in QLD

    • Could anyone advise me on how to find the Cheapest 7-11 Prices from around The Country?

      • Google Project zero three

    • How do I recover money that I had deposited into the 7Eleven app without providing them my home address?

    • +5

Any deal on tesla now that we cannot get cheap fuel?

    • +4

I wonder how many customers 7-Eleven will lose after this app update, especially during COVID-19 where people are being more conscious about where and who their dollar goes to.

    • Was trying fake gps with new 7/11 app
It shows please use ture location

    • +1

I've been able to get an emulator sort of running but does require some tinkering.
The issue i have now is getting fuel locked in.

I'm faced with Error E01, i'm thinking this might be Imei related as Android Studio doesn't auto generate an Imei.

      • Yeah same with me. I've tried using Android Studio Emulator and also get Error E01.

    • Android users seem to be upset over location spoofing blah blah.
Fair enough. I am iPhone user and pissed because for each type of fuel, I have to customs search every time preselecting that fuel first.
Earlier, u searched once and then simply drop down would show cheapest price for all types of fuel. Which means sometime used to get 95 cheaper than 91 😞
Did someone notice that as yet?

    • new apps is hard to use and my money is gone. Not sure how much I had left. They should warn it.

Anyway my iPhone cant run it anymore now but I don't want update the iso……

      • They should have sent you and email to update your details and they will send you a gift card with balance on it

      Android 9.0+ - what a joke!
      Bye Bye fuel app :(

      • +4

Yeah, for example the latest Australia Post catalog shows 7 phones with Android version numbers, 5 of which are version 9.0, and 2 of which are below (versions 8.1 and 8.0). So even some new phones purchased now don't meet the requirements. And for existing devices, for example in my immediate family, only 1/3rd of people have a phone with new enough version of Android to run this. There's a huge installed base of devices that simply cannot run this app.

And if there was some massive new functionality, I could perhaps understand it. But the new version does exactly what the old version did. It might look a little bit better, but nobody cares, and there's no new user functionality.

7-eleven's primary concern seems to have been preventing things like Nox from running. But the number of users doing that must have been frankly tiny. Even if they do succeed, those people will just go to Woolies or independents now. And all the ancillary benefits are then gone. E.g. I would frequently buy snacks (at I'm sure significant margins), when I was in a 7-eleven, and I was only there in the first place because of a fuel lock.

Besides, one low-tech way to solve this would be to have a network of actual physical phones covering Australia. Just need people who live in the right locations. Each time a lock happens it checks the nearest 5 stations. 7-eleven have around 551 petrol stations. So 110 phones would cover Australia. Then automate logging in, locking, and locking out. Since the phones are physically there, no amount of OS or app location checks will prevent their location from being what it actually is. And since accounts now have zero value / zero stored credit, there's really no downside to sharing login details.

So I don't get it. They've excluded a large installed base of potential users, for no new functionality, for a small problem, forgoing all the ancillary benefits, and people will find a way around it anyway.

        • There is still a limit of how many locks you can have per phone. Even if you use a different account.

For those who are more tech savy or just want to give it a try, josephnds posted instructions to update android phones to android 9 custom roms. You will still need to do some research, make sure there is android 9 custom rom available for your phone in the first place etc but it will generally work for older popular phones.

        • Possibility that 9.0 Pie has less security exploits relative to 8.0. Remember, the app/platform was hacked mid last year and a ton of credits where stolen.

          https://techbeacon.com/security/7-elevens-7pay-app-hacked-da…

        • So I don't get it.

You forgot about the price mistakes or occasions when 95/98 is the same price as E10. I can easily see each instance costing 7/11 125k or more (50c/L discount, 50L tank, 2500 people locking in/filling up and locking in again). Just go back an search how many times it happened in the past year.

During normal operation, I don't think the fuel lock costs 7/11 that much.

I'm not saying 7/11 did the right thing, just that they had to do something.

    • +11

Would have lasted a lot longer if upvote-chasing numpties on this forum didn't keep posting 'deals' about it.

    • Previously, under Find stores, i can look up to prices in other areas. This Has now gone.

Can only see prices via Lock prices at local area.

    • locked up a decent price for diesel on the legacy app right before they released the new app. After upgraded to the new app, the locked price still showed up there (valid till 23 June). It was rejected this morning when I tried to use it. Been told it's not valid.

      • What …………..??? did they offer the same price even the barcode not working ???

        • nah, they didn't offer the discount price.

      • I am in the same situation, I will just go in with cash. They can take it or take my number plate

    • +1

I meticulously saved all my 'you saved $$$' messages throughout the campaign. All up I saved almost $1300 over the period.

Gentlemen it's been a privilege playing with you tonight.

    • Looks like back to Costco E10 fuel. They're usually as cheap as the nationwide 7-11 price

    • Since there seem to be a few like-minded individuals in here, I'll just post this: https://www.rtl-sdr.com/using-a-hackrf-to-spoof-gps-navigati…

I picked my HackRF up from AliExpress for about $100.

      • that is expensive to spoof… especially when there are free android apps available for you to do the same thing

EDIT: also not sure how illegal that is, and especially dangerous on the road to modify OTHER DRIVERS' GPS. Don't do this

        • +1

They're very low powered and you can adjust the gain. Why would I do it on the road?

Sorry for trying to offer a solution to your problems.

          • @picklewizard: The title of the article you linked

USING A HACKRF TO SPOOF GPS NAVIGATION IN CARS AND DIVERT DRIVERS

That's what I'm saying not to do. You can do whatever you want to your own device but don't mess with other people's

            • +1

@CodeXD: But I posted it in the context of "how to fake a location so your 711 fuel app can still be used" but whatever I hope the view is nice up there from your high horse

      • Do you have a link for the unit you got? Have you used it successfully?

    • +5

Okay, so I'm getting hammered by pm's. So here is a guide on how to spoof location in pokemon go. Mods please remove if inappropriate.

Here is the process as an FYI,
Do you have your Android phone on a custom ROM with root access? I only know android.
but the steps are as follows:
      Install TWRP
      backup phone
Download stock ROM in case you need to recover from soft brick
Install custom ROM (android 9.0.0 or higher)
      Use Magisk to hide Magisk
      Install Fake GPS program
Use Magisk to hide Fake GPS program
      Install terminal emulator
Systemize fake GPS program using terminal emulator
delete some folders associated with the un-systemized fake GPS program

Here is a good place to start if you dont know what all of this means. also have a look at XDA developers, its the best place for ROMS for your phone.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonGoSpoofing/comments/9kzf4g/t…

dont Brick your phone, make sure you follow all of the instructions (there will be 10 -20 steps per step above) and do some additional research. This will trigger NOX and you will loose the ability to use Paywave on your phone ETC

Also consider supporting the Rom developer with your first saving. They put a lot of work in for little to no return.

      • If you lose Google Pay, that's a pretty big downside, surely? Once you get used to it, it's hard to go back.

        • +1

You can still use google pay if you stick to magisk. However, Samsung pay wont work as soon as knox is tripped

          • @CodeXD: Sweet. I use Google Pay since Samsung Pay is only compatible with Samsung devices, according to Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Pay#Compatible_devices , and I'm not using a Samsung, and even if was, I would still rather use something that works across the whole platform rather than being restricted to just one device manufacturer.

          • @CodeXD: I'd suggest using an older phone for this. You can pick up an S7 fairly cheap nowadays.

            • +1

@josephnds: I wouldn't recommend people buy phones to try this… the point of this is to make it work with your existing device.

Plus, if you were going to get a new phone may as well get one where stock android 9 is available.

      • Could it work to use this process on Android Studio Emulator with root access?

    • -6

Was this one of those things were you would of come out ahead if you simply found loose coins in the park instead of trying to beat the system?

      • +6

I typically save $ 5 -15 per tanks, sometimes up to and above $ 20. I can also play pokemon go in other countries from my loungroom

        • -6

Is this the rock bottom of ozB?

          • +2

            @[Deactivated]: Lol,
            Ability to overclock CPU
Extend phone life by upgrading to newest unsupported OS
            Ability to tweak battery usage
            Adblock built in
            Root access to phone
            Custom ROM with no bloatware
No location tracking data being fed back to Google
            Cheapest fuel in the country.
Can use apps that require locations elsewhere, POGO, Tinder, Wizards unite, etc.
            Sounds like rock bottom.
People pay $50 a year for costco

      • There's a guy who fixes their app when they update it. I download it and lock in the cheapest fuel. Took maybe 5 mins the first time to find the post/download the app etc, 2 mins the time it had a major update and 30secs every other time.

Fuel in my area is often about 20c/l more than the city, plus sometimes I fill up on high days because I like to just fill up when I'm lowish and going past the servo anyway. So I can save 40c+/l, or alternatively the 20c/l and I don't have to monitor fuel prices and my fuel levels as closely.

I haven't been buying fuel much lately and forgot they were taking it down, hopefully by the time I need fuel again there'll be a magical app again.

    • Looks like we reached a dead end, was fun while it lasted. Time to find cheaper fuel options.

    • This is disappointing

I have been using the hack since the day the app was released, did not even need to root at first.
How long has it been now, 4 years, saving about $15/week on one car, and maybe 2 years when I ran 2 cars. Would have saved close to $5000.
I see the new app no longer has the "Find a store" feature, the API that supported this was what ProjectThreeZero and others would have been using to scrape the prices.

7-11 went through a lot of changes to try to detect root and mock locations. I have had to move on from SGS3 to SGS5 as the min android versions changed. Android 8 with Magisk and Fake GPS worked well for me.
Now Android 9, so I flashed the SGS5 to Lineage Os android 9 but the new app will not let me login at all, Error A02.
I need to see the app work before I start adding root and mock location.
I do have some newer phones but not sure I want to mess with my daily, not much support for the Oppo phones.

I hope I can work this out soon or I will probably go back to just filling when cheap at the Caltex or BP up the road.

    • I have Android 9 using lineage on s4 but phone isn't rooted, do you think it works with the method?

  • -1

When logging into the python app , got the following error

    Oops, error:
The new My 7-Eleven App is here! It still has the Fuel Price Lock and great value deals, all with a sleek new look. Please update now to enjoy the best experience available.

    • +4

See motordoms comment a few up… Also recommend NOT using old version so we all don't get blocked

  • +1

All offers are redeemed by scanning a single barcode on My Card. That appears to be the biggest difference from a user point of view. That’s for fuel locks and in app junk food discounts.

I had no issues faking my location on jailbroken iOS 13.3 and locking in cheapest U91.

Project Zero Three hasn’t updated since 14th June.

    • how did you do your jailbreak? not working for me, it gets blocked

      • +3

If you’ve jailbroken by any 7-Eleven detects it. Use Liberty Lite Beta from https://ryleyangus.com/repo/ to block the detection.

        • Or FlyJB
It works on banking apps, Coles, 7-11

    • Which location faker are you using for iOS ?

      • -1

Location Faker repo: https://iOS.tweaks.fun/ works for me.

      • +1

        Relocate from https://alexpng.github.io/Nepeta-Mirror/ works

It has an occasional bug: when attempting to search for a suburb you can’t bring the cursor up in the search box. Tapping out and in usually fixes it or you can set a location by zooming and scrolling on the map. Otherwise is very powerful with blacklists and whitelists.

        • Remember to use "Global Override" instead of "Application Override".

          • @andylch: Why? You could use Application Override if you select My 7-Eleven, right?

            • @sween64: "Application Override" doesn't work on my iPhone 5s

              • @andylch: Works for me. Make sure you select Custom override after choosing a location.
