Site & Guideline Updates (Announcement Thread) - Updated 4/4/24

We are continually making small changes to the OzBargain rules & guidelines and also adding new site features or making changes, many come due to requests in the comments / feedback / suggestions thread or via other threads within site discussion or TWAM.

Whilst we often return to the original discussion/request to update once it's implemented, often the requests are made in private (TWAM) or come internally after moderator discussions and users aren't always aware of site or guideline changes (unless it is something major and an individual forum post is made).

We thought it'd be a good idea to keep this thread running as a central place to announce all site and guideline updates/changes. Note that whilst we welcome questions/comments about any of the announcements, should you have a new request then please use the existing comments / feedback / suggestions thread or make a new forum post within site discussion (if one doesn't already exist).

We'll make a new top level comment below for any new announcements, feel free to reply to the comment directly for any comments/questions etc.

I've included a few important updates from the past month to get things going and also will add a new announcement today as a comment below (which will be the method moving forward).

5 April 2021 [New Feature]: Weekly Random Discussion Changes

The weekly random discussion post has been rather underutilised in the past. We picked 3 random questions from a pool, and every now and then we get some random answers. Meanwhile the original purpose for the weekly random discussion post was being a catch all thread for trivial / not-bargain-related posts, similar to many daily/weekly random discussion threads on Reddit. So moving forward,

  • We will continue to create weekly random discussion thread, and close old ones after 2 weeks.
  • Moderators will merge new forum posts that deem trivial opinions in natural, with that week's random discussion thread.

In my account > settings > edit > blocked you will find all existing blocked users or stores, and now the ability to add new ones at the bottom of the page. Picture/more details.

20 Oct 2021 [New Feature]: New event notification for a deal reaching +100 Votes.

Previously users could receive an event notification if a deal hit the front page (+30 votes). We now have an additional option to receive a notification when a deal reaches +100 votes. Users may find that receiving a front page notification is too frequent and this will allow you to only receive notifications for the most popular deals. As always you can choose between web notification, email notification or both. If you select the web notification you'll get a push notification from the OzBargain App.

  • It seems as though level4 comments are now inserted after the comment to which they replied (and after any previous replies to said comment). The @[username] tags are also prepended after posting. Were there any other comment formatting changes? I can't find an update listing either change.

    • +1

Not all backend updates are announced. Regarding to the change of comment threading, there was a change last week affecting how comments deeper than level 4 was handled. Replies to level 4 comments are now logically deeper threaded, ie level 5 or more, but still presented with the same indent as level 4.

  • Nowadays many deal titles extend to a second line. Might the characters limit be increased please?

  • 7 September 2018 [New Feature]: Show Online Status Users now have the option to hide their online status in their settings page. More details here

The More details here link is missing/404.

    • That's fixed now.

  • 8 February 2019 [Guideline Update]: Members less than a year old are no longer allowed to post in the classifieds area.

From investigating reports of fraudulent activity in classifieds, we have noticed that quite a number of new users who post bad quality deals just meet the requirement to post in the classifieds area 6 weeks later. We have now decided that everyone posting in the classifieds area needs to be a member for at least one year, regardless of whether they have posted a deal or not. As of this morning, the system should automatically stop users less than 1 year old from posting.

  • 27 February 2019 [New Feature]: Exclude Targeted Deals from Newsletter

    Block forum

Furthermore users can manage blocked deal stores, blocked competition stores, blocked forum stores, blocked users and blocked commenters. To do so: My Account Menu > Settings > Edit > Blocked

    Blocked manage

    • Please note that the block does not apply to hot discussions or highlighted discussion topic sections. See below:

I'm going to assume this includes moderators as well? Not that I would, but can we block ourselves from seeing moderator tagged comments by blocking the mods?

      • Unfortunately you can't just block moderator tagged comments. You can block moderators, but that will also include all non-moderator-tagged comments from that mod.

        • I'd say fortunately, but that makes sense. Thanks!

        • Does Block button also hides my posts from the user I block?

            • @scotty: is there such an option? Thanks for replying!

              • +1

@Pricebeat: That does not exist. You can't stop another user from looking at selected content, i.e. your own posts/comments.

  • 10 April 2019 [New Feature]: New Front Page

Scotty made a post here about it, but repeating here for visibility. In addition to the existing 'Grid' and 'List' front page options, users now have a 'New' option which is your personal customised front page:
    new

To customise your 'New' front page, from the 'My Account' menu, click on 'Settings', 'Edit' then 'Deals' and scroll down to 'Front Page (New)'.

Your customised front page can: 'Show more/less number of deals in total', 'Show more/less of particular categories', 'Show more/less of particular stores', 'Show more/less of particular title tags (anything in [ ] at the start of deal titles).' For example if you are from NSW, you can add NSW into the title tag option and drag the slider to more, so deals from NSW will be shown higher on the front page. You can also add VIC, QLD, SA, TAS etc. and slide them to less or not at all (if dragged all the way to the left). You can also see more/less deals for [PC], [PS4], [XB1], [Amazon Prime]/[Prime], [eBay Plus] etc. depending on what platforms you use or what memberships you use. This takes a bit of customisation, you can also add stores as you see them to see more/less of the deal to perfect your front page. Please note that any changes you make will only be applicable to the 'New' front page option on the home page, not 'Grid' or 'List'. You may like to switch between the 'New' and 'List/Grid' front pages to see your customised front page before viewing the regular front page or vice versa.

    field

This new front page is recently out of beta, changes will be made, any feedback/suggestions please make in the Comments / Feedback / Suggestions Thread or in the existing New Front Page Algorithm announcement thread.

  • 5 June 2019 [Guideline Update]: Classifieds - What can Be Posted?

Please see the Classified Guidelines which includes updates/clarification under the 'What can be posted?' section. Our classifieds is for personal use, to sell unwanted items. These updates specify that in clearer and greater detail.

  • 12 June 2019 [Update] Changes to front page and popular badges criteria

    Front page

    • The threshold for reaching the front page has been increased from 25 to 30 votes. See updated FAQ.

    Criteria for badges

    • Popular deal badge requires 150 votes (was 100 votes)
    • Popular competition badge requires a sum of 150 votes and entries (was 30 votes)
    • Competition of the month badge now compares the sum of the votes and entries, not just votes.
    • Will badges currently held by members be revoked if they don't meet the new criteria for the badge?

      • No it won't be applied retrospectively, no badges will be revoked.

    • What's the reason for the increase in votes for front page? The increase to 25 votes was because of more voting, but that hasn't seemed to have increased again.

      • Basically we try to keep the amount of front page deals around 20-25%. As you can see from the graph below in 2018 it has increased to new high of 25.6% so we've slightly adjusted the default front page from 25 to 30.

        graph

We'll be working more on the new frontpage which may work a bit more dynamically then just using a default 30 vote metric.

        • +1

Is there a similar metric for the popular deal badge? I noticed the requirement has risen from 100 votes to 150 votes.

          • +4

            @sween64:

            Year 100+ 150+
            2012 2.22% 0.91%
            2013 2.63% 1.03%
            2014 3.87% 1.63%
            2015 4.98% 2.17%
            2016 5.92% 2.48%
            2017 7.29% 3.15%
            2018 7.07% 3.25%
            2019 7.38% 3.49%

Badges were introduced in 2012. So from the stats, we would actually have more Popular Deal badges awarded this year with 150+ votes, than 100+ votes in 2012.

            • @scotty: I thought previously the award criterion for the popular deal badge was gross 100+ votes (negative votes didn't matter). Was I mistaken?

Has it changed to net 150+ votes (negative votes subtract from the count)?

              • @alvian: Yes, the Popular Deal badge has recently changed to 150 votes.

                • @scotty: I know the number of required votes is 150, the question is how is this number calculated? 150 gross votes (accumulate 150+ and the badge is awarded) or 150 net votes (number of positive votes - number of negative votes >= 150)?

                  • @alvian: The calculation has always been based on net votes (pos - neg).

        • Thanks for that. I'm sure your monthly stats would cover it but I'll take a stab and say the influx of Amazon deals?

  • 14/8/19 - Codes/coupons requests being offered for free by users

    Example

    Users offering free codes.

Currently we either leave in comments in the deal OR remove and link to classifieds. If left in comments, it creates a mess and makes it difficult for users to find on-topic discussion. We can't mark off-topic as then people will miss the comments. Moving to classifieds creates a huge amount of classified wanted posts and restricts members under 1 year.

For deals like these, we will:

    • Start a post in the classifieds with code giveaways.
    • Link to code giveaway in deal post and in comments of deals.
    • Remove any comments asking for codes.
    • Merge classified posts into code giveaway post.

(Keep in mind selling or wanting to buy codes in comments is not permitted and falls under selling in comments rule.)

    • +1

This is great! I saw the first such deal only two days ago (not as big as your example) and was thinking there should exist some way to group the requests/offers together somehow.

    • +1

      Good idea!

  • 29 August 2019 - Enhancement: Competition entry methods and special treatment for Gleam/Woobox

New filter and option for competition entry methods

The All Competitions page and your personal Not Entered comps page can now be filtered by competition entry methods. The results will include competitions that include any checked options as an entry method. Gleam has been added as a new entry method.

    Competition Filter

Special note on Gleam and Woobox

    • Similar to deals, competitions should be linked directly to the organiser/store of the competition where possible.
    • Adding a Woobox or Gleam URLs inside the body of the competition will automatically add Woobox or Gleam as a related store for the competition.
    • Thanks very much for adding this in.

There's quite a few similar to Gleam and Woobox, for example Rafflecopter, KingSumo, ViralSweep etc

When posting comps, would you like the entry method for all of these to be marked as Gleam as well?

      Thanks :)

      • Thanks Katie for info about the other platforms.

Yes if you could tick 'Gleam' if the comp is a gleam comp, that would be good. Thanks.

      • Sorry I think I misread your comment. Gleam entry method should only be used for gleam comps. For all the other ones (Rafflecopter, KingSumo, ViralSweep), we will set the display store accordingly for them.

  • 7 Nov 2019 [Guideline Update]: Duplicates Exceptions - Excessive Votes & Items Not in Title

    Link to Guidelines

    Old Guidelines:

    • The duplicate gains an excessive amount of positive votes (50+) and the original deal was posted more than 24 hours ago.

    New Guidelines:

    • The duplicate gains an excessive amount of positive votes (100+) and the original deal was posted and had become active more than 24 hours ago.

What's changed and why? (1) The vote threshold is increased from 50 to 100, the 50 vote rule was introduced almost 8 years ago and this increase brings it into line with current traffic. (2) The original deal must also have started 24 hours ago, this is to avoid a duplicate exception being posted for a deal that has just started. It is problematic as it can clash with a highlighted deal and we'll also have 2 active discussions for the same deal post. We also have a merge function so comments are not lost, which did not exist when this guideline was introduced.

  • 17 December 2019 [New Feature]: Event subscriptions by web.

Event subscriptions can now be received by site (web) notification, instead of/as well as by email. This includes a deal hitting the front page, a competition hitting the front page or a search alert. Email remains the default option for these event notifications.

  • 3 Mar 2020 [New Feature]: Alcohol category

Alcohol deals will now be placed in it's own discrete category. This will allow users to either include or exclude Alcohol related deals from their Newsletter Subscriptions, and hide Alcohol deals on Ozbargain using their Account Preferences menu. To do this, Click My account => Edit -> Deals -> General category.

For help on more advanced settings on personalized front pages, please read this post

      1. Any quick way of removing the Alcohol category tag that's linked to the Beer , Wine, etc, category tags?
      2. Should the Alcohol tag be banned?
      • +1

Yeah Alcohol tag is no longer needed. Therefore putting in Beer or Wine should not automatically add Alcohol tag. I'm still in the process of correcting those issues.

        • +1

Fantastic. Keep up the good work 😉

  • Website looks slightly different? Some minor cosmetic changes?

    • +2

Yes cosmetic changes as part of dark theme implementation.

  • 4 April 2020 [Guideline Update]: Deals Involving Opening Gambling Accounts

    Link to Guidelines

Deals that require the opening or use of a gambling/betting account, to obtain something, are prohibited as per the above ruling. Under the unpublish reason 'Gambling Sites Are Not Permitted'.

We have received notice from Liquor & Gaming NSW yesterday that there were complaints against OzBargain for deal posts that suggest opening a gambling/betting account, even though the deals were from separate merchants. Those are now not allowed to be posted on OzBargain. For example,

    • Free 3-Month Kayo Subscription via BetEasy
    • Free Optus Sport Subscription for Ladbrokes Members

Although the deals are offered by Kayo and Optus, but as BetEasy & Ladbrokes memberships are required, those cannot be posted as deals.

    • +4

Wonder who would submit complaints about it…

  • 14 April 2020 [Guideline Update]: Hand Sanitiser Posts Cannot Make Unsupported Therapeutic Claims

We have received a letter this morning from TGA raising concerns over one previous hand sanitiser deal that claimed "help ensure you are fully protected from the spread of viruses". We have been referred to TGA's document on advertising claims and hand sanitisers, specifically

you cannot make a therapeutic use claim that directly or indirectly refers to coronavirus (COVID-19)

TGA treats users' posts on OzBargain as "advertisements". Therefore therapeutic claims in the description of deal posts, (regardless of whether they are medically or scientifically proven or unproven), made in regards to hand sanitisers will be removed by moderators in order to comply with TGA guidelines.

  • 29 April 2020 [New Feature]: Official OzBargain Android App Is Available on Google Play Store

Download Here. OzBargain notification support was added in the most recent update (29/4).
More Discussion/Give Feedback Here. iOS version is coming soon.

The best way to use OzBargain on the mobile is still opening OzBargain website on a browser. However the app would be useful for those who insist using an app.

  • 4 June 2020 [Guideline Update]: Upcoming deals can only be posted at most 90 days into the future.

See updated guidelines for upcoming deals. The deal submission form will also prohibit entry of starting dates more than 90 days away.

  • 16 June 2020 [New Feature]: Original posters can self-unpublish new nodes without comments within 10 minutes

If the conditions are met, the unpublish button is displayed to the original poster in the edit form:

    Unpublish

Note that the display and ability to click the button is not a guarantee of success of unpublishing - another check is done after the button is clicked.

    • Great addition moocher, thank you. Does an unpublished deal count towards hourly/daily post limits?

      • Yes it does, all unpublished deals count towards the limit regardless of whether they are unpublished by OP or by moderators.

  • 1 Sep 2020 [New Feature]: Hide deals from the New Deals page by tag.

Users now have the ability to hide deals with particular tags from showing on the new deals page.

Click on any tag below a deal post, click on the Tag Menu Icon (Ellipsis/ 3 Dots), click 'Hide on New Deals page'

Example: If you want to hide deals tagged as 'pizza', click on the 'pizza tag' below a deal post. Click the tag menu, click the checkbox 'Hide on New Deals page'. You will no longer see any deal with the pizza tag on the new deals page.

    Pizza

Important: (1) Deals are often not tagged upon submission, it can be hours or days before deals are appropriate tagged by moderators or power users. You should consider blocking particular stores (click the hide option below a deal post for that store) or categories (edit > deals > I want to include Deals For Selected Categories in your settings) for a more guaranteed solution. (2) This will not hide the deal from the front page (at this stage).

  • 30 Sep 2020 [New Feature]: Show Unread Notifications Only.

Users now have the ability to only see unread notifications, in the notification bell menu. In my account > settings > click 'Show unread notifications only', under the OzBargain Settings subheading.

  • 9 Oct 2020: Newsletter Customisation Options

These changes only affect newsletter subscribers with OzBargain accounts.

Users now have a few new options to customise their newsletters.

    • Exclude highlighted deals (included by default)
    • Exclude competitions section (included by default)
    • Exclude forum topics section (included by default)

    Newletter options

The 'comments and replies' will now only include subscribed threads for the newsletter subscriber.

  • 17 Dec 2020 - No early posts for Epic Game Stores 15 Days of Free Games / Ubisoft 5 Days of Free Games Holiday Promotion.

We won't be allowing any posts for the current Ubisoft 5 days of freebies, or the upcoming Epic Game Store 15 days of freebies, until the day they have started. This will ensure that unreliable/incorrect information, which we can't verify either way, is not posted. We also and mostly, want to avoid multiple posts being posted days in advance and out of order. This can make following the deals difficult for users.

The upcoming games/leaks can still be discussed in comments, in the existing posts.

Just a reminder on how to follow the games:

    OzBargain Free PC Games
    Subscribe to Ubisoft
    Subscribe to Epic Games

Edit 2/1/21 - This promo has ended.

    • 02 Dec 2021 - No early posts for Epic Game Stores 21 Days of Free Games (Repeat of 2020 Ruling)

We won't be allowing any posts for the upcoming Epic Game Store 21 days of freebies, until the day they have started (AEDT).

This is to ensure users can easily follow posts, rather than have posts made far in advance that are out of order and therefore hard to follow.

Edit 21/12: Mentioned AEDT for clarity.

Edit 31/12: This promotion, and therefore ruling has ended. We will publish a new guideline in December 2022 (if required).

      • 13 Dec 2022 - No early separate posts for Epic Game Stores 15 Days of Free Games (Modification of 2020/2021 Ruling)

We won't be allowing any separate posts for the upcoming Epic Game Store 15 days of freebies, until the previous day's free game has begun (excluding Day 1).

This is to ensure users can easily follow posts, with free games being posted in order; rather than have posts made far in advance that are out of order and therefore hard to follow.

Example: Day 2 Freebie Game starts at 17/12 3am. Therefore the deal post for Day 3 Freebie Game, can be posted from 17/12 3am onwards.

  • 10 Feb 2021 [New Feature]: Referral Randomiser Now Random Only

The referral randomiser will no longer show the OP's referral code/link as a dedicated option, next to the random option, if the deal hits the front page. The referral randomiser will now show the random option only, however the OP's code/link will have a higher chance of being selected, if the deal hits the front page.

This change will also be better for privacy, as a referral link can sometimes contain personal information which can be attributed to the OP's account.

See Help Wiki for more information.

    ref

    • Hmmm for those data driven decision makers do you have an exact probability?

      • It's a formula, not a flat % or multiplier, but not something that will be disclosed. It may also be tweaked in the future if need be.

      • +2

See Should We Allow The OP's Referral Link in Deals? for further info and the discussion leading up to the change.

    • Continuing on from this, and I could post a new thread if you want, but what about disallowing referral codes in competition posts, for similar reasons? They can have top comment, but not be in the post itself

      • 4 June 2021
Referral links are now no longer permitted for competitions which will make it consistent with deals & forum posts. Comments in competitions are still fine.

  • 15 Mar 2021 [New Feature]: Tagging Users.

You must turn beta on to tag users. My account menu > settings > edit > account > show beta features.

    beta

    ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

You can now tag a user in a comment (beta only, for now). Type @, then begin to type their name, click the username from the drop down box. You will then see the option to notify then under the comment box which you can uncheck if you change your mind. All users will receive the notifications (even if they aren't in beta), unless they have turned it off in their settings (see below).

You can opt out of receiving notifications when users tag you, by going into settings > subscriptions > events > misc. notifications > "Notify me when: Another user tagged this account with @XXXXXX in comments"

This feature is still in beta and may be slightly changed before going out of beta. For any issues/suggestion regarding the feature, please add it here.

      Wait… It's not April 1st!

      • +2

        @hamza23

It was at this time I discovered how many hamza's there are on here lol

Side note, when editing a comment, you can't add a tag (just FYI). Only comes up on this bit

        • Yes as notifications are sent out at the time when comment was made, there's no point to send out more when editing old comments.

    • I don't have the ability to turn beta features on. It doesn't appear in my settings -> edit -> account screen. Have I understood the instructions incorrectly?

      • "beta" is only available to those who are not in L or P plate, i.e. have posted at least one deal more than 6 weeks ago. Since you still haven't posted a deal on OzBargain, you aren't even on L plate. There are still issues that we need to sort out, for example username auto-complete especially those with spaces in names. Therefore it might remain beta for a while.

        • Thanks scotty, I appreciate the explanation. I am indeed not even an L plater :)

    • The OzBargain community can't update the wiki - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:beta_features

Is it possible to only have select beta features? Whilst I do like testing out new systems I don't want to test out all.

      @hamza @scott

      Tagging bug

      1. Found a bug - when you edit a comment tagging doesn't show.
      • That is intended. Notifications are sent when the comments are posted, not when comments are edited & updated.

  • Hello, I've noticed today that my landing page is not showing all the deals. I have to press
    - Deals
    - New Deals to see the latest posts.

I went through my settings and I selected
    - Minimum Votes
    - Default to unticked
and it won't save that preference

    • Front page is now default to the new algorithm so in your case, having a small minimum threshold for front page only applies to the "old" listing format. You'll need to click on the 3-dot menu on the front page (just above the deal image), and select "List old" to revert back to the old behaviour.

      • Thanks, it's back to the way I like it

  • 16 March 2021: Update to Brand Rep/Third-Party Posts

We have just rolled out a new system to handle Third-party/Brand rep posts

    • New 'Brand rep' tag - Brand reps are reps that don't work for the store but for the brand of the product. This replaces the 'Product Rep' tag.
    • Third-party/brand-reps will not be able to vote on deals
    • Third-party/brand-reps will have tags next to their username in comments
    • Third-party/brand rep deals will not count towards store posting limit but will count towards their own domain's posting limit
    • There is currently an issue where comments from store reps aren't being tagged as associated and it's under investigation.

      Update: fixed

  • 23 March 2021: Update to Store Rep Posting Limits

As a follow up to the code update for third-party/brand rep deals above, the system will now include all directly associated deals and third-party deals when calculating posting limits. (Previously they each had their own posting limit due to system limitation).

    As an example:

    • acmecompare.com.au is a third-party site
    • On day 1, acmecompare rep posts a deal linking to bunnings but includes a link to acmecompare.com.au in the description - this deal is marked as 'third-party'.
    • On day 2, acmecompare rep posts a deal linking directly to acmecompare.com.au - this deal is marked as 'associated'
    • Both deals now count towards acmecompare's posting limit.
    • Thankyou, I've been chasing this for a while :)

Certain airfare stores have been abusing this for some time

  • 5 April 2021: Weekly Random Discussion

The weekly random discussion post has been rather underutilised in the past. We picked 3 random questions from a pool, and every now and then we get some random answers. Meanwhile the original purpose for the weekly random discussion post was being a catch all thread for trivial / not-bargain-related posts, similar to many daily/weekly random discussion threads on Reddit. So moving forward,

    • We will continue to create weekly random discussion thread, and close old ones after 2 weeks.
    • Moderators will merge new forum posts that deem trivial opinions in natural, with that week's random discussion thread.
  • 30 April 2021: Classifieds section now hides expired/closed listings by default

As per user request, the classifieds section now hides expired/closed listings by default. To view all listings including expired/closed, check the 'Show expired and inactive listings' checkbox before the first listing.

  • 7 June 2021: Reminders set on Daily Entry Comps will Remind User Daily from Requested Reminder Date

Reminders set on daily-entry competitions (those with 'Once Per Day' entry limit) will now remind users daily from the reminder date until closing date of the competition instead of just once on the reminder date. This was a feature request.

For example: Daily-entry competition runs from 1-31 July. User sets reminder for 5 July. System will remind user daily from 5-31 July.

If you don't want to be reminded after the first reminder date, please delete that reminder manually after you have been notified.

Note: This will not work on reminders that were set for dates prior to 6 June 2021 as the reminder may have already been cleaned up by the system before the code change.

  • 15 July 2021 [Update]: Change to Contributor and Store Fan badges criteria.

The Contributor and Store Fan badges now require +20 votes on each of the deals, instead of +5 votes.

    Contributor
Old: Sharing 15 or more deals that have votes +5 or more. Applies only to non-store-rep deals
New: Sharing 15 or more deals that have votes +20 or more. Applies only to non-store-rep deals

    Store Fan
Old: Sharing 5 or more deals from the same store that have +5 votes or more. Applies only to non-store-rep deals
New: Sharing 5 or more deals from the same store that have +20 votes or more. Applies only to non-store-rep deals

  • 20 July 2021 [New Feature]: Subscribe to new posts from particular forum categories.

You can now subscribe to new posts in particular forum categories. You will find a 'Subscribe' button in each of the forum categories, eg Electrical & Electronics.

    img

Or you can select the categories you wish to see in My Account > Settings > Subscriptions > Categories. This replicates the already existing function to subscribe to deals from particular categories.

  • 10 Aug 2021 [Update]: Associated users can no longer + vote comments (within posts associated to their store)

Associated users/store reps were already restricted from - voting comments, we have extended that to + voting comments as well. This will ensure that all comment votes within a post for a certain store, are made from users who aren't associated with that store. This only applies to posts for store(s) a user is associated with, they can still - and + vote comments on posts for other stores or posts without a store set.

While this affects associated users only, all users should know that reps can no longer + vote their comments (in addition to not being able to - vote them, which has always been the case).

Associated Users will find that the vote buttons are simply removed next to the comments. Example:

      Hello hamy :)

      • +2

Nice to see @MS Paint making an appearance in the example as well

        • +1

You've been following my spam today!

Gotta love old MS paint, that goes back to the 90s - did it go back to DOS or was it introduced with Windows 3.0?
You know for a while I was really afraid that MS had killed off MS Paint when they brought out Windows 8. So glad they didn't kill it off.

What are you doing? I'm in a large brightly lit building surrounded by strangers…..

    • Just curious why this restriction was brought about?

      • So votes on comments are only made by users who are impartial.

For example a member could write 'this is a very good deal' and 3 reps from that store + vote their comment. A member may see that comment and the +3 votes and think a lot of people agree with them, not realising the community has not actually + voted that comment at all. Other reps could also + vote comments made by a rep or a user, to counter - votes made by the community on a comment they disagree with/dislike.

  • 6 Oct 2021 [New Feature]: Subscribe to Products (Beta).

When clicking on a Product tag, users will be able to subscribe to the products to receive a notification when future deals are posted. These subscriptions can be managed in my account > settings > subscriptions > categories. As always you can choose between web notification, email notification or both. If you select the web notification you'll get a push notification from the OzBargain App.

To subscribe to a specific product:

    1. Navigate to the product page on OzBargain. For example iPhone 13.
    2. Click on "Subscribe" button, that should be located just above the first deal.

How to enable beta and more details can be found here.

  • 6 Oct 2021 [New Feature]: Block Stores/Users/Tags directly from Settings.

You can now block stores, users, tags etc. directly from your settings page, rather than having to find a post or comment from that store/user to hide/block it/them.

In my account > settings > edit > blocked you will find all existing blocked users or stores, and now the ability to add new ones at the bottom of the page.
