Back again and cheaper than ever in this configuration. Apply coupon TA-E470-898 at checkout to get the discount. Lenovo is also offering half price warranty at a ridiculous $63 for 2 years of NBD on-site coverage (as opposed to standard return to base) - a no brainer in my opinion. Note: Lenovo increased the price by $100 at 10:45pm Friday so I've expired the deal.

I wish my current laptop would blow up. Trying to use the force, but it's not working.

    • +13

try using real force, that works all the time! guaranteed!

      • My employer will notice :(

        • +1

Does it work in the rain?

        • +5

@backpaqer: I'm guessing since they didn't reply it doesn't work in the rain. Good idea you had.

    • +1

here's some solid advice to get a new computer

      https://youtu.be/ScF9wId6bKw

  • +1

    Lenovo specials every week

    • +6

yup these things will start popping up in Coles weekly catalogues in no time.

  • What about international warranty?

    • All thinkpads carry intl wty

    • Got stung by this, if your exact model isn't carried in a country the warranty won't be honoured and you will need to ship it to the nearest country to have it done. But this will no doubt be carried in most if not all countries anyway.

  • Wow, that's a great deal!

Like "Make it so" said, I wish mine would die now- lol….

    ;)

  • +1

Will these last a while? What is the build quality?

  • +1

Are the E series laptops reliable? Looking for something that will take some punishment with no fuss.

    • +2

Have a Lenovo Edge E520. Over time more and more bits have stopped working. e.g. webcam, then keyboard, then power supply socket that needed replacing, then eventually give up and buy new one after 3-4 years or so.

    • +5

Buy a real Thinkpad. Skip the E and get the T

      • +1

Are there any good deals for the T series?

        • +1

You missed out on them. Previously posted by Scotty 24/03/2017

Tend to be flash sales. I highly recommend setting up a Search Alert on Ozbargain and checking your email everyday

        • +1

Thanks, the T460 deal seems inferior to this one. Could you explain why getting a T over the E would be better?

        • +2

          @Zeath163:

It's a bit like buying an off-road SUV as opposed to a budget city car.

T series incorporate carbon fiber chassis (the skin) and magnesium alloy roll cage. Decreases weight but increases durability. They are typically used for business uses… for road warriors who work on the go and want a laptop to take punishment with no fuss. Then you'd have no issues paying the extra $200~300 or so dollars for that extra peace of mind. They are tested more vigorously and have some kind of Mil-spec durability specification.

Same goes for the Thinkpad X series, posted on 29/03/2017
The X series is the more portable alternative to the T series but also features the same build quality.

If your laptop is going to be sitting on your work desk for 90% of it's life (as a desktop replacement), then you probably won't need a T or X. You could buy a shitbox value laptop from Officeworks and still be Ok.

    • +3

i have an e560 and provide you don't act like a complete w anchor with it it will do the job fine
I'm a service tech and it's been in my hot car, freezing car in winter and stood up to the test of time
Mine looks like it's still brand new
I have the AMD R370 model from last year
Still get 6-8 hours to the battery and very happy
My original unit had a fan error but they come out and fixed it, funny enough the fan worked but the error annoyed me

The E series is a little plasticy but it's certainly not crap build quality, it's cheap and if you treat it with respect it will last fine

Paid 1055 ex gst with 3 year next day on site business warranty

So far it's been a great machine

  • +5

Not that it matters in practice, but the RAM with this coupon's config is actually

    16GB(8+8) DDR4-2133MHz SODIMM

Great deal though, especially with the (I assume it applies) 7% Cashrewards cashback

  • Got the deal at $915 - is a great laptop

    • How do you get $915 ?

      • +3

I think he's saying that it was previously on sale for $915.

  • +2

The website says 2133 MHZ RAM and not 2400. Update post please or deal on website.

    • Not that it matters. That CPU would down clock 2400 to 2133 anyway.

  • Does anyone know if this can be used with the ThinkPad Dock? The laptop doesn't appear to have any connections on it's base, but I'm not quite sure exactly how it works.

    • It appears to only work with the USB dock (ThinkPad USB 3.0 Basic Dock) not the more comprehensive docking system.

  • god I wish i didnt pull the trigger on the lappy offered late last year! great price @OP

  • +1

paid +200$ for E450 last year, with lesser configuration. god I hate this

  • Wow this deal is much ridiculous!

  • Great deal tightA !

  • +5

Obligatory mention of the lack of backlit keyboard, which is important to some

  • Hi guys,
I'm not much of a tech-wiz so hoping someone can help me here:
Will I be able to operate 2 screens from this laptop without much issue? The 2 screens would be a 4k and FHD screen.

    • +1

supports dual independent displays; max. resolution: 1920x1080 (HDMI) @60Hz

Looks as if there is only one HDMI output with no 4K capability.

      • Moot point at this price
        Want 4k spend 1500-2000

        • Thanks for the reply guys!

Do you have any suggestions? (what exact spec would I look for in my search?)

Also, does the laptop need to have a 4K screen itself to be able to output 4k?

Is there any sort of accessory that allows 4K output from a laptop in this deal?

        • Completely wrong. Maybe if you want to game at 4k, but anything less that gaming requires much less power.

  • Does anyone know how long the delivery is to Melbourne?

    • Lenovo's delivery is generally slow. The bit that says 'ships in 6-9 business days' means they will ship it out of their warehouse in 6-9 business days. So a couple of weeks, with the shipping out time and international postage.

  • great price!

  • +1
    • 7% back via CashRewards!

    Brings it down to $835

  • Would this be ok for basic video editing? Heard Lenovo support is not great

    • +1

Yes the CPU and RAM combo will cover basic video editing very well. The 256GB SSD might be a little small if you're storing a lot of video.

    • Fine for that

    • It's using a low voltage processor, which might be a bottleneck later. But at this price…

    • ok but its only a dual core processor , an older used quad core laptop would probably be better.

      • whats the cheapest deal that Lenovo have put on here for the quad core ? I'm waiting for that

  • +2

Anyone can comment on how their lenovo laptops are doing, say 6months or 1year since first use? Holding up with software and hardware?

Also, what does NBD on site coverage for 2 years get you?

    • +1

Have a Lenovo Edge E520. Over time more and more bits have stopped working. e.g. webcam, then keyboard, then power supply socket that needed replacing, then eventually give up and buy new one after 3-4 years or so.

    • My e570 is great …… I'd buy another Lenovo ……The e series isn't as tough as t series but at these prices the e series are great value.

    • I have a Yoga 2, its doing really well after 3 years of throwing around(catch PT to university etc). I also spilled a cup or 2 of coffee on the keyboard. One of the USB ports had stopped working though. Just ordered a X1 yoga from the previous Lenovo sale as the Yoga 2 can no longer handle the programs I need it to run.

However it is still a gun for any ordinary user. Broke my heart(and bank) when I decided to replace it.

    • I have an E420 from around 2011, everything still works fine, no problems at all, had to buy a new charger after constantly running over it with my chair but I would think that would've happened with any laptop.

  • +1

Anyone comment on the IPS screen? Is it decent quality?

  • Get the extra warranty. Ours off one of the prior deals has died after only a few months.

  • Kind of annoying it's dropped in price before I received it from the previous deal….

    • Does your credit card offer price protection!?

      • Nope, plus I paid via paypal. I've sent an email to after sales support. I figure I can always cancel the order prior to delivery and reorder this deal.

  • What additional add ons should I look like the Microsoft software upgrade or should I not bother? Thanks

  • How will this fair running architecture software? Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Autocad, Photoshop, Indesign etc…

I already have a desktop at home (which I still intend to use as the primary device), but sometimes it's handy to be able to work away from home…

    • +1

im on E570 and running multiple archicad on it and have no issue with it

      • Awesome. I ended up getting this deal anyway, the specs seemed decent enough to run most things :)

Thanks for the heads up! although the E570 does have a better GPU, I'm hoping this will be alright, it's a bit lighter.

How are you finding the screen size?

        • +1

This isnt my primary device as well, Its workable E570 is 15.6" screen but won't be much difference

  • $100 for Windows Pro feels pretty expensive. Which it was part of the deal!

  • -1

Great deal, that is a lot of power for the price. I was in the market for a new laptop for I.T Junior and my dell rep was too slow on the DFO item which got sold and then I saw this, perfect. Not my ideal unit, bit on the heavy/chunky side but Im sure jnr will love it, all those rams and geforces lol.

    • Out of interest, what was the comparable mode over at the dell dfo? What's is about the same price / specs?

    • My junior days he should get my e570 as he needs the ram and geo force more than I do ……This e470 is tempting but I love the extra space inside the e570 for an extra drive.

  • Nice deal but not really interested in this series!

Bring on some ThinkPad 13 (Gen 2) deals.

i3, 8GB RAM, FHD, 128GB SSD, perfect! Keep it as cheap as possible, just add in FHD! Unless the i5 is only abit more.

  • +1

Great price but 940M is a bit meh. I almost skipped a beat when I saw this posted after buying the E570… Anyway, great price for those who don't care about the GPU too much.

    • 2GB is pretty good, no?

      • +4

The amount of graphics RAM isn't a measure of the performance of the card.

The 940 will do some basic gaming but will struggle with anything remotely demanding.

If you have specific games in mind, Google that along with 940mx benchmark, you'll get an idea of how it performs.

        • I was surprised by the difference between the 940 and 950 actually.

  • Perfect!
I was looking for a new laptop ever since my old one broke…
    Plus
This comes with free bios level malware!
    Thanks TA

  • So Lenovo are becoming really price competitive?

And they're machines are good quality, reliable etc?

    • +2

Lenovo IdeaPads are the cheapest stuff Lenovo makes. They are the ones being peddled in retail shops like BingLee or JB. They are for newbs. Don't buy them.

The E-series are a bit like the high-tier Dell Inspirons (5000 series and above). Okay for the average user. Not so great if you want an ultrabook (they aren't very thin or light). They are budget business machines (have many of the features like the concave shaped-key and pointing nipples, but they lack the ruggedisation, backlit KB, carbon fiber body or advanced docking port)

The T series are the most popular in big business and corp. users. Great choice for those seeking rugged reliability and want the best features.

  • Man.. I am sad everytime I see price reduction for this. Bought at ~960. Solid machine no issues. No backlit keyboard is annoying. Also battery life is pretty solid can get 7/8 hours easy non video usage.

  • This or Xiaomi Air? Anyone?

    Thanks.

Edit: Just found out the Xiaomi is much lighter, so I'm going to pass on this one :P

  • Are the 'MX' GPUs the ones you can switch out yourself?

  • Dang… Is this better than xiaomi air 13inch laptop deal ?
I still haven't got it yet. May be get another one?

  • I bought the T470 through work a month ago which is double the price for similar specs without the graphics card. The T470 does have thunderbolt, but I have yet to have any devices to take advantage of it. The laptop is lighter and comes with possible additional 6 cell battery for close to 15 hours use. If I had to pay for this myself, the E470 would be the one. Crazy price.

  • Would snap this up, but I think it might to too think. Been looking to change from my MacBook Air, but I think I would rather something without the video card and thinner :(
Might just keep watching Dell & Lenovo deals.

  • -3

    show off my t440p : i7-4870hq,gt730m,32Gram,(256g m2 sata+ 2tb hdd+ 2tb hdd),1080pIPS,fringerprint reader,backlit keyboard

    • +11

Don't take this the wrong way, but nobody cares

  • Couldn't build a pc with these specs for this price.

  • Is shipping included at this price?

    • +1

      Lenovo does not charge shipping

      neither does dell

  • Hi, may I know how do I key in the coupon code ? I tried to type that into the 'e-Coupon' field, but it says 'Coupon code is not valid for the current cart. Please input a valid one.'.Any idea ? Thanks!

  • +10

AWESOME!!! Just bought this for wifey! If this doesn't get me a BJ, I don't know what will! :)

    • BEST ONE….. DO Let me know before Sunday please :D

  • is the battery on this upgradeable?

  • How come these deals always have an i7 CPU and heaps of RAM? Way over kill. How about some low power i3 deals? Plenty for home use. :D

  • are these on display in any shop? want to feel how it is in real life

  • +1

leave E models, so cheap build. bought dell 7000 much better than lenovo. will never buy lenovo computers again.

  • +1

The coupon code almost made me think tightarse works for Lenovo.

    • +2

OzBargain is one of Lenovo's corporate clients.

      • Nope. There's only 6 of us. We just use coupons posted here!

Also, we have no relationship with them. Personally I think their computers are great but support (at least 4 years ago) was shocking.

        • Their computers are indeed great, and their support is still terrible!

        • +1

          Hi Moderator Neil,
          Thank you for your reply.
However, I am not sure my comment is incorrect. According to http://www.abn-lookup.com/firm/oz-bargain-pty-ltd-125343464/ OzBargain's Australian Company Number is 125343464, and its Australian Business Number is 59125343464. It is listed as an Australian proprietary company.
On 21 March 2017, in the link you provided, OzBargain Moderator Scotty (the site admin) stated "I buy and use Lenovo products. Actually I buy Lenovo laptops for all the staffs [sic] working for OzBargain …"
Therefore it would appear that OzBargain is one of Lenovo's corporate clients.
