    Price? Speed?

      100/40 - $89.90 per month
      50/20 - $79.90 per month
      25/5 - 69.90 per month

      :)

      • so you're more expensive than amaysim on the 25/5 plan… how is this a bargain again??

        • Maybe better service /less congestion?

        • +1

amaysim has a 500.1 ratio…. so not worth it imo
i asked below what their ratio was and they are capping at 45.1 which means you are going to get the promised speeds during peak… a quick search on whirlpool will show you the countless unhappy Amaysim NBN customers.. and its all about ratios

        • +1

          @jimbobaus:

Exactly right. Amaysim is 500:1 jesus! not even sure how you could call that service / product.

        • +1

Say wha…? Is this for real?

        • @infinitytelco: 500:1 is okay if you have 10GB quotas :-). On an unlimited plan it might be okay if it scares everyone except the light downloaders elsewhere.

        • @mathew42:

Indeed, but more and more pressure for unlimited plans across the market now, definitely not a strategy for success!

        • @infinitytelco: I'm hopeful there is enough space in the market for at least one quality RSP that only offers plans with quotas. Even only 100GB a month is of more use to me than an unlimited plan that slows during peak periods.

With unlimited plans, I suspect it will be a race to the bottom, so if you are not the cheapest, then expect to be crushed.

        • @mathew42:

But then it defeats the purpose of a 100/40 plan… Sure 100GB on a 25/5 plan may be sustainable. But 100GB on 100/40 is practically useless. Might last 4-5 days. And if you tell me you just want that speed with 100GB of data, i say why whats the point?

        • +1

@infinitytelco: For Grandma in a country town who wants a 15 minute video conference with the grandkids in the big smoke, 100Mbps delivers excellent quality, whereas on 12Mbps can be a frustrating experience.

Why should Grandma pay the same as someone who streams netflix every night of the week?

        • @jimbobaus: Hi, do you know what ratio does Belong has. I just wanted to know if it's worth jumping the ship.

        • @thisispants: highly possible, still don't see how this is a bargain…

For the record I don't use amaysim, my point was there's cheaper options… With a company that people have more likely heard of… Everyone has to start somewhere but I don't feel coming and advertising on OZBARGAIN… is a great way to go about that…

  • +2

    up to x speeds bs

    • -1

Any RSP offering unlimited plans is likely to suffer performance issues if successful because heavy downloaders will be attracted to the deal. Unless the RSP has an acceptable use policy which they enforce to regularly cull the top 1-5% of downloaders then congestion is almost certain.

RSPs have to connect to 121 points (POIs) on the NBN to provide a national service. This means on one PoI performance can be okay and at the next PoI the network performance can be heavily congested.

      • -1

That is correct again, you get the heavy users coming in and smashing the network and making everyone else suffer. Thats when you would call a service "business use" People that are constantly peering P2P servers across the country & globe sharing information 24/7 definitely should not be taking advantage of an offer for the general population.

        • +2

So what is your policy on ending the contract for these users?

        • +3

You can't really say that heavy users are making others suffer and shift the blame there when the word you use to advertise your plan is "unlimited".

Much like a gym membership you and your industry hope that people don't use their full entitlement in order to keep up your service level.

        • Yes, I really need to know about your policy too. I don't P2P much, maybe about 10-20gb in a heavy month, but it's still important to know that I'm not signing away my rights in small prints.

  • -4

might want to put price, speed and company name in the title… also probably not the place for advertising unless you're offering a special deal for ozbargain viewers…

EDIT: looks like you did the first thing I said around the same time I posted this… my other comment remains valid…

    • Revision was by a mod, not the op.

  • +3

Isn't this around the same price as most other ISPs?

    • 50/20 - $79.90 per month - most ISP's dont offer this because they know everyone on fttn falls in this area (which will mean no one will go to for the 100/40) so most will make you get 25/5 or 100/40(even though you will not get close to that speed) .. so at least there's some saving grace there lol… but you are correct the prices are pretty much the industry standard.

      • +4

i am on a provider offering 100/40 with a 50.1 ratio.. on HFC
during peak the slowest i get is around 85 down…. my friend next door who is on Optus NBN with HFC gets a peak speed of around 5mbs… a quick search finds that Optus has a 500.1 ratio in most cases and in some… 1000.1 ratio
THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN DO UNLIMITED FOR $60 a MONTH and make money

most people shop on price then complain about the speeds during peak
a little research and you will find you get what you pay for and if you choose the right provider with the right ratios you wont have issues.

This company might not be the cheapest.. but they are stating they will be capping at 45.1 ratio which means you WILL get the promised speeds especially during peak (give or take 10-15%)

        • I didn't know this, can you please explain what ratios mean in NBN/speed terms?

Is 1000.1 mean something like 1000users per 1connection or something?
So something like 45.1 mean less users per connection?
*obviously my terms aren't correct but hope you know what I mean.

        • +1

          @jayz:
your understanding is 100% spot on

45/50.1 is the best being offered these days and u can expect to avoid the "6pm slowdown" if you are on a provider with this kind of ratio

i am on 50-1 and i get 85mbs down during peak times
my mate is on a ISP with 500-1 and he gets 5mbs down during peak times…. and he lives next door

        • what is ratio (ie 500.1 ratio in most cases …) ?

        • +1

          @dodgybrothers:
as a rule.. u get what you pay for
$60 a month unlimited for 100/40 is not going to be 50.1 they wont make any money…. plain and simple
at that price they have to overload the node/connection to make any kind of profit.. thats why they stack users into the same connection.

unlimited 100/40 for around $100 a month is more likley to be 50.1 and u will maintain decent speeds at peak times with this kind of ratio

        • @jimbobaus: Is there a reliable source for ascertaining these ratios?

        • +2

          @5cooter:

there are 2 ways to find out the ratios
          1) call the ISP and ask them
          2) whirlpool users tend to have real world experiences with speed

The ACCC is setting up a monitoring site which will track NBN speeds this will include ratios and be updated. (ISPs will be legally required to advertise their ratios on this service) but that wont launch until early 2018

        • @jimbobaus:

Exactly. Hence $89.90 per month for our 100/40 plan.

Leaves our contention ratios for each data pipe around 45-50:1

  • +2

    Where's the bargain in this?

  • Whats your contention ratio?

    • +3

Fresh set of realms across the country. Contention ratio will be capped at 1:45 however.

      • Thats actually pretty good :)

      • +1

Hi OP, will this ratio be capped for the whole time you operate, or will that be subject to change at the company's discretion?
Pretty interested, my speeds during peak hours drive my crazy sometimes.

      • Would appreciate if you could answer my above question :)

        • Hey Jayz. Yes, our goal is once every realm / pipe we setup is nearing the contention ratio limits we will open a new realm and so fourth.

  • +1

Maybe i should re-phrase. no setup fees for oz-bargain sign-ups. Also no contracts and $10 discount per month on 100/40 usually $99.90.

    • How do we prove we're from ozbargain?

    • +2

no setup fees for oz-bargain sign-ups

Scotty never charged me when I signed up here.

      • +2

You don't have a premium account?

        • Premium?

        • +2

          @infinitytelco:

Premium Ozbargain account, it's like a Power User but more premium.

  • The website is not complete, all the links at the bottom (Legal, Contact Us etc) are not clickable. There is no area coverage check option.

    • That's a bad sign.

  • +1

Well the website lacks… credibility. None of the links in the footer work. No info on availability.

Makes it all seem kinda dodgy, sorry!

    • +1

We're more-so here to provide decent net, not so much for a web experience. However cheers for the feedback.

      • +1

not so much for a web experience

And that's a huge mistake when turning to people who are web-based. Feedback ends : )

        • +1

          Good point! feedback on-board…

      • That is not a suitable answer.

  • No deals here. Cheaper option available from other providets.

    • +1

What are the ratios of the cheaper providers ?

      • +2

Some you will find up to 130 even more. Its easy to tell, do a speed test in peak hours and if you're on a 100/40 plan, and the speed is dipping down to the 5-10mbps range, the ratio is in the 100's

    • -3

Let me know your idea of a deal, happy to work one out!

      • +1

If you search OZB, you will find others like BuzzTelco are providing the same service in half the price

        • +1

The only issue with them is the contention ratios will be through the roof, we're not looking for quick market share, we provide quality internet products…

  • Appreciate the effort but there are better options im afraid.

  • +1

I selected an NBN plan and put the address where NBN has not yet rolled out, it still continues to payment page.

    • Yes, we do manual verification.

  • OK, waiting for MyRepublic customers to post here … :p

  • What are your rates for phone calls? are there any unlimited call packages? why does the chat dialog on your web page say you are "Connect Broadband"?

    • Call Rates:

Services Rate Local Calls 25¢ per call National Calls 25¢ per minute^ (plus 39¢ call connection)
Mobile Calls 39¢ per minute^ (plus 39¢ call connection)
      13/1300 Calls 30¢ per call
      18/1800 Calls Free
      19/1900 Calls Not Supported

Unlimited Local + National $10 per month
Unlimited Local + National + Mobiles $20 per month

  • Maybe the rep should check out some of the buzzTel deals…. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/317040?page=6#comment

    • I had a look, all is good… But what happens when congestion hits? then its a whole new game.

  • +2

I'm with myrepublic and pay $30 less than that a month for the same 100 Mbps deal, with barely noticeable slowdowns in peak periods

    • What are your speeds like at 6PM-9PM

  • I dont need unlimited but want congestion free connection with good international speeds all thr time

    • +1

This might be a good solution for you. https://www.connectbroadband.com.au/residential/premium-nbn/

      • That would be unnerving for potential customers to see someone providing NBN but showing someone another company's offering when someone wants "congestion free"

Do you not believe your own offering is congestion free?

        • +8

Some people want that needle ticking 100/40 24/7 and the fact of the matter there is you get what you pay for. Connect Broadband are generally 15-20:1 contention ratios. We are 45-50:1 contention ratios. Both excellent products, not here to hide anything from anyone. Here to help.

        • +3

@infinitytelco: On the contrary to Axelstrife, I appreciate a honest salesperson! I can totally understand why you would recommend an other company because that product suits what frenzaltom might be after!

        • @infinitytelco: "Some people want that needle ticking 100/40 24/7"

OFC they want the speed to be there 24/7 IF and when they need to use it. whats the point if the speed is there 3 am but not 7 PM when they want to stream a movie or download a crucial game update etc…

Though i do know about all these high fees ISP's have to pay for CVC, pisses me off how messed up Australia's internet is right now.

My NBN capable of 1 Gigabit but no company can offer at a reasonable price.

        • @Axelstrife:

Hey Axel… If you look into the base cost of just CVC. 100 mbps is $4,400 per month charge from NBN co, before the data transit costs and so many other things. If you wanted your own guaranteed dedicated pipe of 1000mbps unfortunately the way the AU government has deployed this project, you would be looking at close to $44,000 per month.

        • @infinitytelco: $4400?

          https://www.itnews.com.au/news/nbn-co-cuts-over-to-new-cvc-d…
this artical states it's under $20 per mbps.

$4400 would mean you pay $44 per mbps

Ofc i must be missing something?

        • +1

          @Axelstrife:

NBN co charge a per mbps charge, and then the wholesalers also charge an IP transit cost… Basically doubles the cost of the CVC. Works out that baseline cost per mbps of data is around 44 - 50 per mbps per month. And then you have to add on the other costs such as radius servers, authentication points, internal network infrastructure so on and so fourth. AND THEN add on the cost of obtaining clients, marketing, maintaining clients, customer support.

So, when you add it all up, you can see why the NBN network is the way it is.

        • @infinitytelco: Clearly i don't know much about it all but why does NBN sell CVC to wholesalers? not direct to ISP's.

        • +1

          @Axelstrife:

NBN co basically owns the cables from the house to the POI's (points of interconnect) then the wholesalers own the cables from the POI's to the DC's (data centres) then the RSP's own the infrastructure in the DC's such as the servers and so fourth. Everyone in the process wants to make a $

  • I am still very sceptical on the consistency and reliability of the NBN. There is NBN in my area (Castle Hill, Sydney) but I am not convinced to migrate across to NBN unless they have resolved all the teething problems. My ADSL2 is due to expire mid next year and I shall wait. It might be even more competitions, more reliable and cheaper then.

  • If you can match Buzz Telcos deal on here ($59/month) I will sign up and stay if the speed is as good as I get now with TPG.

    • The 25/5 plan they have for $59 per month?

      • Buzz Telco is 100/40 for that price.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/326422

        • Goes to show how much they must be over-selling their network there. I could do that but we would very quickly see a network decline in speed. Our network has much lower CVC contention ratios so unfortunately i would be able to match that one for you…

        • @infinitytelco:

Great so when can I sign up ? (you just said you would be able to match that for me)..;)

Ok, I know it's a typo, but how is this a bargain if you can't offer me a better deal than what I am getting now ?

  • This deal is getting my interest.
Just a dumb question as I'm currently with Optus Cable, if I sign up to NBN (available for my house), who/ how will the NBN be installed in my home?

    • Hey, basically we will use your existing cable line, NBN co will come and install an NBN box in your house, and then we can deliver our service over that line.

  • Just joined HFC after coming 10years with Optus.
    We'll see how it goes.

  • How's your rural service (Alice Springs)? I've been with iiNet for almost ten years but since moving house and getting NBN earlier in the year the whole setup is a shambles - constant disconnection/sync loss, atrocious speeds at the best of times… they had to bump me down from a 25Mbps connection to 12 because it's the lowest they can go and my speed has never once topped 6Mbps. I gotta find something better.

    • Would be interesting to read what the reply is.

      • +1

We're going to work on helping Aeon out once the service is across with us. Starting with some investigations and so fourth i am confident we will find a way to get a resolution.

  • I'm going to leave a feedback here after switching over from Optus Cable that I've been on for around 10 years.
I usually get 100Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload offpeak, while peak, it's luck of the draw. Sometimes usable while other times acceptable.
Decided to switch to Infinity Telco as Optus sent me a letter that there were cutting my cable in a month's time.

Ordered on 31st Aug with NBN installation guy doing the installation today 7th Sep.
I'm on HFC as I was previously on cable internet.
The techie attached the new Arris CM8200 modem directly to the same port where the Optus coaxial cable was.
He then proceeded on completing the registration on his tablet.
In total, it took about 30min to complete.

As I have my existing router that I want to use, I selected to not buy one from Infinity.
Setting up myself was a bit tricky. It wasn't working at first as NBN can take up to 4 hours to complete the job on their end.
I waited 4 hours later where I tried again and was still not working so I got in touch with Jake from Infinity through online messaging.
This is where it shines for these guys.
If I were with a larger telco, I'm sure I'll be on the phone for hours while speaking to a person who usually read off a screen and is not tech savvy.
Jake was helpful the whole time. We tried a few ideas but it didn't work. I was actually really surprised he has time to answer my questions.
In the end, it was the fault of 1 Ethernet cable (self-crimped). I switched that out and it worked.

In the end this is the result:

    http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6603891086
    http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6603929137

           Optus vs Infinity:

    1. Service 0 1
    2. Price same price
    3. Perform 0 1
