  • Combine with this

    • Hmm. i activated the $30 SIM plan today without knowing about this deal. You reckon i can get it applied now?

      • I think it works if you received the email from Flybuys. You get 5000 bonus points on sim only plans

    • How do you make use of this offer? Couldn't find clickable link to get the flybuys bonus point with this offer.

      • You should get email from Flybuys or check your Flybuys offers by signing into coles app

        • Strange! Didn't receive any email from Flybuys regarding Optus deal, and I don't see it either in the Coles App Flybuys tab or the Flybuys website.

    • Doesn't work. If I go with flybuys link from email. It shows $40 as charges per month. If I go with click frenzy link, it shows as $30 per month. Why would anyone pay $10 extra for 12 months just for 5000 points.

  • Isn't Kogan mobile cheaper on the 365 day plans and better value

    • Up to 300 International Minutes + Unlimited Music streaming

      • +1

        Oh ok fair point

The one thing I hate about Optus is They have heaps of dead spots I notice while traveling to the city in the train and half the time it's 3G

        • 3g is a deadspot? Hahaha.

    • +1

If you don't want the international minutes and unlimited music streaming, yes it is.

      • +1

        … And data share

  • THanks for posting, I’ll take those to replace my Virgin $41/13.5gb plan

    • I went the other way last month Optus $50 for 15gb per month to Virgin 18gb for $32 per month(Deal)..

  • Ah BEEP, I renewed my contract over the weekend.

Wonder would they let me switch?

    • +1

Me too. Pretty pathetic if they don't…

      • Let me know if you have any luck.

EDIT: Just tried and the rep just said no and gave the standard sign off message. Worth a try.

    • -2

You should be able to, there is 10 day cooling off on all contracts

      • Ah really got any details on this?

        Thanks.

        • -3

This is just consumer law, it applies to all contracts, it would be in the terms and conditions they should have sent you. There are some exceptions I think. I found this link, it may be of help https://www.acma.gov.au/theACMA/coolingoff-periods-acma

        • +5

In the telco world, cooling off periods only apply to unsolicited agreements, in other words, if they call you (telemarketing) or visit you (door to door sales). But if you contacted them, by phone, internet or walk-in, there is no cooling off period.

          https://www.acma.gov.au/theACMA/coolingoff-periods-acma

        • +3

          @robbyjones:

Cooling off periods only apply to unsolicited sales approaches. If you walk into the store or order online, they do not have to offer a cooling off period. Correct me if I am wrong lawyers.

    • Tried when this deal came up a while back and had no luck with the rep.

  • +2

Perfect timing! Been waiting for this.

One thing to note tho, the old offer (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335784) is exactly the same but it had free Optus EPL sports. This one doesnt! :(

    • +1

lol i've had Sports on my plan since day one, and i cant remember ever using it..just knowing i was getting it for nothing was nice enough lol

  • Also take note - "Offer available for new and existing customers adding an additional service only." So if you already have your number with optus and want to keep that same number with this service you won't be able to. Still an amazing deal if you're happy to have a new number in that instance!

  • Will this work with the student 10% off?

    • Nope. According to the online chat.

      • +1

In that case, I'm not even going to bother. It's barely work the effort for a saving of $6/month. A better offer will come up by the time my current 12 months is over.

    • I had check and see that offer T&C's
The 25% off monthly access fee is not available to be used in conjunction with any promotions that offer a percentage (%) discount on the access fee.

Been talking to chat for 30 min not budging. I got the discount plus my uni discount last time.
      Not looking good.

      • -1

Well if the T&C's state it, why are you harassing online chat to get the discount?

        • +2

I'm not harassing. I've singed up to the click frenzy deal before and received the student discount. Im just telling telling everyone they have a disclaimer and dont expect a discount.

  • +2

Offer available for new and existing customers adding an additional service only

How do I, an existing customer, get this deal? Is there a workaround? Online chat rep pretty much told me to go eat snit.

    • +3
      • "Online chat rep pretty much told me to go eat snit"
        Ahahah!
    • port in and out

      • I keep reading horror stories of ports taking days…

        • -1

If you give the right information then port takes within 1 hour, then you can port back to port within the next hour

        • +3

In my experience, porting to a different network is fast.

I ported from the same network (an Optus reseller to Optus) once…the process took a week.

        • My last port from optus took a full 5 business days.

    • I'm an existing Optus SIM only account holder. My initial 12mth plan just finished and I had no issues signing up for the $30 click frenzy plan via online chat.

Edit: Spoke too soon the first chat drone said yes no worries then the 2nd guy rejected me. New accounts only.

  • +2

Got the similar offer last time - a good deal on paper, but not sure I would have gone through with it knowing all the issues that would come up. I was promised a maximum of a few hours to port my number from Virgin, ended up taking 12 days. Obviously many hours wasted trying to sort that out with them. I have now received my first bill and it seems like they are trying to charge the wrong amount as my bill is more than double $30 quoted price - so again, I am going to have to waste my time calling them and sorting out.

    • +1

I am experiencing the same shit. $51.77 exactly. (profanity) sneaky

      • I have the same shit too. Received my second bill and its like $13, the first was about $52. Makes no sense whatsoever. They gave me some bs about it all being credited at the end of the 12 months so it will work out to $30/month. We will see. I have made sure to get all the chat logs emailed to me with reference numbers.

        • Yh I left Optus about 10 days ago.. They sent me a $12.50 refund… I had forgotten I paid in advanced when signed up.

  • I'm on a $40, 10GB, month-to-month contract … I wonder if I got onto live chat, would they just switch me over to this 12 month one?

    • You would have to cancel your old plan and start a new number, but essentially, yes

      • Oh shit really? Yeah I don't want to change number.

    • -5

They will charge you an exit fee.

      • Even on a monthly contract? I thought that was the advantage of it, that I could cancel and only lose the cost of that month ($40)?

        • Sorry, completely neglected the part where you state it's month-to-month. You are correct.

        • +1

@nurries: Ahh, all good! Just making sure! I'll give live chat a shot now in a second and see what they tell me! :)

    • +1

Yes, cause you're not in a contract, you can go to one of these deals.

hiiamhello is wrong, you don't need to start a new number.

      • Ryan M on optus chat just said to me I need to port a number or be a new customer. I was on a plan but now paying month-month.

        • Oh crap, my bad, I thought customers can re-contract on this deal but it's only for new customers. Well, you best be porting your number out then porting it back in.

  • Does anyone manage to match the price with Vodafone? I just called and they offered me $36 for the $40 sim only plan, couldn't match the Optus offer.

    • Did you get month to month?

      • no, 12 month contract

  • +2

I HAD A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE MOVING TO OPTUS

Sorry for caps but I moved to a plan exactly like this. $30 for 15GB. The first bill I am charged $51.77 and am being told it is an upfront payment that I will get back after my contract expires. Complete nonsense. Everyone I know who moved across got the same bill and is having a headache trying to rectify it. This type of collateral was never discussed when I chatted to them and they said $30 a month.

Anyways I used to think telecoms were just like any other business, they have every right to make a profit. But nah fk em.

    • +7

You pay prorata + month in advance.

      For example;
You ported to optus on 1st, but your billing cycle is 20. You will be charged from 1st to 19th current month then month in advance for 20th to 19th for the next month.

If you cancel your service, then you will get a credit back for the days unused. So if you cancel 21st you will get 29 days back of the plan, if you cancel on the 15th you will get 4 days back of the plan.

    • As far as I know, every Telco company charges an upfront payment for your prepaid plan…..

      • +2

this is about postpaid plan, not prepaid

    • I didn't except that. I basically said i signed up for $30 and that's all i was willing to pay.

  • Damn, pity it's for new accounts only. Tried using the chat to get it anyway but no dice.

  • I have optus prepaid. Can I keep my number and switch? Think not judging from the comments but just wanted to be sure..

    • Yes, moving from Optus prepaid is eligible

  • +1

Currently on the horn to Telstra to match this

Telstra ‘thanks for bringing this to our attention, Telstra doesn’t price match’

Then they offered unlimited phone and sms local and international to 15 countries, 12 month free Foxtel now and 20GB data with a 2GB bonus for $59

If that floats your boat get on it. It didn’t me

    • +2

Considering they we offering 20gb for $49 + $200 jbhifi credit a couple weeks back, that deal is shit.

  • +1

I'm out of contract and Optus won't give me this deal. Time to switch.

    • I got it without issue via the online chat. Just finished 15gb 12mth BYO plan recently.

Edit: Spoke too soon the first chat drone said yes no worries then the 2nd guy rejected me. New accounts only.

      • :'(.

  • Vodafone also doesn't price match, offered an additional of 2.5gb for the first month on $40 sim only plan

  • I also got on a chat with Telstra. Wouldn't give me anything worth the time. $10 off the M or $5 off the S.
Stuff them. After 20 years with 2 numbers, looks like it's time to move away.

    • I had a different experience - although I tried (unsuccessfully) to get Telstra to match this deal, they did offer me the MX plan for $10 off plus 5GB extra data.
That was good enough for me - $39/15GB on Telstra's network.

      • I tried but even after chatting to a manager, they wouldn't budge on anything. So they lost 2 mobile services. Stupid thing is they could have got more money out of me and I wanted to give them more money (total between 2) but they wouldn't budge. Dicks.

    • I successfully managed to get the M Bundle for $39, but with no bonus data. Im currently on 11GB with no contract, but if I switch to the M, have to go on a 12 month contract. Is the extra 4gb worth it to be locked in?

  • Seems only available for 2 years. In the nitty gritty details
"The 25% discount will be available for 24 months unless a customer changes their plan or cancels their service"

    • +1

This discount continues for 24 months, but you are only in contract for 12 months. After 12 months you are free to leave/change plan, however if you don't you can still get the 25% discount for up to another 12 months.

      • That's what I meant, the maximum duration of the 25% discount is two years. After that price will revert back.

        • Ah got it sorry, I thought you meant that the contract was only available for 2 years.

I'm sure an even better deal will be around by then :)

        • +1

In 2 years you will get 25GB for this price.

  • Can’t sign up. Just gives me the spinning circle after completing the form. Anyone else get this?

    • try a different browser or clear cache?

    • Using an adblocker?

    • Turned out it was only for buying as a business. Personal works fine.

  • +1

Optus chat just advised me to wait til 16th, apparently EPL deal is returning

    • Oh shit, really?
That was the only thing that had me hesitating on getting this.

Any other info about what the deal would be?

EDIT: I've just asked Live Chat and the rep hasn't heard of this. He might just not be in the loop, or maybe there isn't a deal.

    • hmmm.. this offer ends on the 15th at 7pm.

Do I pull the trigger or wait till the 16th in hopes this live chat rep wasn't lying? lol

Did he say it was the same 15gb for $30 deal?

      • The live chat made my decision for me - won't allow me sign up as I'm an existing customer, even though I'm not in a contract or anything.
Can't be bothered porting out and back in again just for this offer, although it is a good one.

        • It make me wonder why they only want new customers. And happy for the out of contract customers to switch out.

        • @StopThatBus: Yeah it's baffling. I'm on a monthly contract where I could leave at a moments notice…. yet I'm "asking" to be locked in for 12 months.

          Mind boggling!

      • He said it was 15gb for $30 and would include epl. Rep was Mathew G

        • No way! My guy was completely against it and told me to jog on.

        • +1

Damn you Matthew G! Don't see no offer today!

        • @jlim87: Haha, so it wasn't just me sitting refreshing the Optus page!

          Goddamn Matthew G!

  • +3

Just a few tips for anyone who does sign up

-Optus in it's last promotion did not apply the discount for the first month unless you spent hours arguing with them
-They will by default sign you up to spam sms and email
-They will by default post you bills (even if you tick not it seems) and charge you. Possibly glitch in their website.
-If you are porting from another Optus provider be prepared to speak to the help desk for an hour or so during their call centre times as for some reason they struggle porting those numbers (I had to call multiple times and to through many people as none of them were able to do it strangely enough)

Other than that the price is good

    • Confirming all of 4 of these issues happened exactly as described in this comment when I signed up for the last Optus promo of $30/month.

When I queried the first month charge of $50+, the online & phone support teams flat out refused to help because they could not see the promo on my account. I offered to forward the order confirmation email but they don't have any email access. They asked me to go to the store.

Went to the store and the Optus customer service person was extremely condescending like this is some common knowledge and I was wasting his time querying it. Maybe it is, but just the way he embarrassed me in front of other people was unnerving and I so regret signing up with Optus now. Stuck for 12 months I guess.

Please be prepared for terrible customer service if you are switching from another provider. I was with Virgin, and they receive a lot of flak about service but my experience with Optus is just next level.

I still don't get this nuance of the first bill, you sign up for $30 deal the bill should be $30 (provided no extras used), am I being naive here? Admittedly the second bill does have the correct discounts applied automatically but I am still out of pocket by over $20.

@mmaattuu: Have you been able to get the first bill sorted yet? I have had no success so far.

      • Same here. Subscribed for $40 plan with 25% discount last time, now just saw the first bill come at $40 with no discount mentioned in the bill at all. Also seeing no $0 Optus sport in account as mentioned in the sim order. Was chatting with CS agent when the chat suddenly frozen. Start to regret to go with them now. So freaking sneaky *******

        • I have had the frozen chat numerous times, usually happens when I ask a difficult question, when reconnecting its a different agent where you have to start all over again. My cynical theory is that some agents don't want to deal with the tough questions and simply disconnect. I have no way to substantiate this and may be wrong but I am sure these people have ridiculous KPIs and it basic human nature to game it a bit. I am extremely polite to the agents and well aware that the fastest way to get booted is to swear or be rude in anyway.

I am done with Optus, I will be betraying the ozbargain ethos and walking away from Optus at end of this contract regardless of the deal and value for money. Enough people do it and they will focus on customer service again. Telco is a tough business I guess but they need to stop paying ridiculously big bucks to the top brass and invest in staff who do the grunt work.

      • My girlfriend and I both signed up for same plan and both got our first bill charged at $60. We both spoke with online chat/phone call with customer service and adjusted the bill to $40 (supposed to be $30). They refused to amend the last amount for both of us. My partner gave up but out of principle I didn't and kept escalating the situation with online chat which eventually resulted with them correcting the bill to $30. My partner never had theirs fixed. Strange that they fix only some when you properly raise the issue. I know the money is nothing but still just seems crazy
