Recap:
First post @ US$19.99 - this is the introduction to Rihanna and my 2-cents about why I chose to buy the Xiaomi umbrella over the Blunt umbrella deal.

Second post @ US$18.99 - beating the first post and sold out fairly quickly.

Due to popular demand, I present to you the Xiaomi Umbrella at US$18.80 - not a big drop in discount, but I'm trialling a new direct link method with LITB. There is no limit to the amount you can buy, no need to fumble with the discount code. However, during my test, I noticed that the "free shipping" option is greyed out if the quantity is more than "1", so I guess the workaround is just to make multiple orders.

LITB Checkout process:
1- Add to cart and proceed to checkout
2- Select "Postal Service - No Tracking" US$0.00
3- Untick shipping insurance
4- Choose payment method (default should bePaypal, unless we have Nigerian princes on OzB who want to pay by Western Union)
5- Verify final payable price is "$18.80" (USD) before proceeding to Paypal

Yes, Gearbest is currently a bit better with their service and shipping times (with the "Australia Priority Mail" option for a measly ~15 cents extra, but IMHO LITB is catching up and because this deal does not have a discount code, it'd qualify for the cashback from:

CashRewards - 5% cashback - link here, or
PricePal - 3.60% (founder) or 2.00% (regular) link here

So with Cashrewards, you'd get US$0.94 back so technically you'd be out of pocket US$17.86, which is around $22.75 AUD.

I have just received my umbrella from the last Xiaomi deal, so I haven't used it yet, but it comes in a typical white Xiaomi thick box. My very first impression upon unboxing is that for a product like this, with such packaging and stuff, if it were to be sold in department stores like Myer and David Jones, you'd probably be happy to fork out $40+ for it.

Thank you for upvoting. Next up is the Wiha Screwdriver Set, hopefully next week yeah.

Trying for Mi Band 2 as well, as mentioned in this timeline.

You're a legend, telling people when the deals are coming is awesome!

        • +11

I am actually a regular OzBer so I don't have any leverage to expedite or request priority over their stock or sales plan. I don't have any commercial interest in my posts.

I just practice persuasion and negotiation techniques to hopefully cajole the reps for a cheaper price with the sole intention to share with this great community.

        • @sky blu: Too easy mate - thought you were a rep. Seems I came across too blunt with all those negative votes I got!

        • @Markmosis: It is a popular product. I'll try to secure a deal with sufficient stock and will, of course, give y'all some heads-up before the deal is live.

        • @sky blu: if you could swing a deal on the Amazfit Bip for under $80au that would be peachy

        • @ebosh: Too many things on hand at the moment, but I'm not saying challenge not accepted :).

        • @sky blu: thanks legend. I'm not expecting anything but if you can wrangle it then I'm in for 2

Just wondering if there are any differences between this umbrella and similar umbrellas that you can get in Myer etc.

I've tried reading the website but it's somewhat undecipherable eg: "Seiko Secret Agents" does this mean it's suitable for injecting pellets of ricin into enemy spies who are waiting for the bus?

    • +3

      Yes.

    • +15

it's.. Xiaomi and this is ozbargain. :P

      • I see, in that case, does it take Eneloops?

        • +1

No, but it can be configured to receive band 28 and you can change the color to different shades of pitch black using the MiHome app.

    • +1

Check out OP's "first post" link above.
More description of umbrella in previous post that might be helpful

  • +4

w00t got one at last… now to wait 35 business days.

  • has anyone actually used this umbrella yet?

    • No.

    • +3

It actually doesn't exist. You're just buying the picture of it on their website.

  • This one lets UV through… do us Ozbargainers pay the extra $7 for the 'better' version?

    • UV in WTF?

    • UVtex FABRICS coating with high color fastness, high strength and other characteristics, has the features of great light shading, excellent shielding and heat insulation, which can effectively block the harmful ultraviolet rays and do achieve UV protection.

      That's from the description

  • +1

what's so special about this umbrella

    • +57

It's automatic. It uses bluetooth to connect to your smartphone, downloads weather data from across the world, runs a predictive rainfall model, and then opens and closes accordingly (watch your head as it does so).

      • Best description ever.

      • +2

So you need to keep holding it over your head incase it opens?

        • +18

A small price to pay for so much convenience.

        • +3

Actually it's the closing part that gets you, especially as you're crossing the road.

        • @Kontiki:

This is my favorite OzB comment yet.

        • Strap it.

I have a thing about umbrellas so I really don't get what the fuss is all about. Why buy an umbrella made by a company whose main products are electronic goods?

If you're looking for a good quality umbrella that looks great and doesn't break the bank look no further than Clifton.

        https://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/brands/Clifton?…

And if you've got money, there are more expensive alternatives out there as well:

        • +3

Come back when you have a xiaomi link please.

        • There's also UV protective material to consider.

Also, greetings non-clifton-associated user. :p Enjoy your clicks.

Ha! Reminds me of the bookmark I've had for years in case I ever earn good money and want to waste some on a fancy umbrella.

@kahn: I like the Polished Acacia. The metal band would have PJC engraved on it.

        • Peters of Kensington is a super expensive store… almost everything overpriced. That's why people have to resort to an electronics manufacturing company which, thankfully, happens to be good at making umbrellas too.

        • +1

          @PJC:
And scab would grab one of those root-knob umbrellas.

        • +2

          @kahn: I think he'd be wearing gloves.

Not really a bargain, I can walk into my local target or big w and get cheaper.

    • +2

      Where is that again?

    • Or you can sit at home and get this one delivered.

    • +6

same token as you can use a plastic bag and cover your head with it

      • +11

plastic bag costs $0.15. True OzB covers head with empty KFC box from 9 for $9.99 deal.

        • You get free plastic bags when shopping at Coles or Woolies.

        • @edfoo: not for too much longer. They're getting rid of plastic bags in 2018

    • post links for the cheaper ones and get yourself some credit here

negged for no links to better deal

    • +2

There always has to be one…

      Congratulations for being that person.

    • +1

What is this "walk" you speak of?

  • Got mine from last GB deal in less than a week thanks to the almost free priority shipping.

    • Are these any good?

      • It looks like it's well made. Haven't put it to test in the recent storms yet. All I wanted was something small enough to fit in the backpack and big enough for maximum protection from the rain.

        • Imagine if you were using this in the recent hailstorm in Melbourne… 5 cm balls rained down in my area lol.

        • @Ultraman: You would need one of those Kingsmen umbrellas.

        • +1

@Dealayed: Or the Captain America's vibranium shield.

    • Almost free? That's still not free :p

  • Took a minute to find "Black Umbrella"
Ordered after making sure Credit card conversion not PAYPAL, unticking insurance and changing to Free Shipping time….
    Used Cashrewards…..
    No Code to make cheaper?

    28 degrees…..$23.88

Picked up a couple while travelling in China.

My quick summary would be good build quality, feels heavier and sturdier than most cheap small umbrellas, automatic release and unfolding when you press the button, automatic collapse when you press the button (need to manually compress the stick portion though), but the main perk is the water repellant texture. Makes it easy to shake off water when you're done with the rain and to put it away.

I personally thought it was worth it.

    • How much did you payed for one in China if you don't mind me asking? Would it be also around $22 AUD mark?

      • +2

They are 99 yuan on their online Chinese store. This is approx $19.30AUD at current rates.

Obviously that does not include shipping to Australia.

I am not sure what they cost at a physical store.

    • Was wondering about the water repellent material.
      Thanks for the confirmation.

  • +3

A better than ever price for a great automatic brolly. As for that Rihanna video … she's undressing me with her eyes.

    • +1

I just help her in getting to 382 million views of that video it better been with this umbrella!

  • +2

    Bought one thanks

  • Does this integrate with their MiHome app?

    • +1

you can link it with the water sensor to automatically open

  • Bought one but it came up as $25 something :-/

    • $18.80 = US Dollars, $25.something = Australian dollars when converted by LITB.

    • +4

      What I did
      1. Chose USD
      2. Paid with Paypal
      3. Used my Coles Gift MasterCard (or any MasterCard)
      4. Amount deducted was AUD$23.99 from my Coles Mastercard

      • To avoid higher currency conversion rates and to get cheapest price from these Chinese websites, always choose to pay in USD, (Choose "USD" from top left hand corner) and set your Paypal so it "bills you in the currency on Seller's Invoice". To set your PayPal account this way permanently, follow the steps shown in these snapshots(paypal-community.com) [Highly recommended]
