    • wonder if corsair is killing the ax range… i don't see a lot of those nowadays

    • FWIW, I don't know if it's a scorptec thing but I've been watching this listing since yesterday and it still says "5 available" even after two people bought it this morning

      • They do tend to restock constantly

        • Yeah, right now I'm assuming it'll keep restocking as long as they have stock @ $199 on their own website

    • Not sure how corsair compare to silverstone but scorptec have the silverston sff750 platinum for $185.
I bought that instead as it still uses japanese capacitors and seems like its just as good.

      • From my limited experience, I think Corsair are the best of the bunch. Silverstone still make decent stuff though and that is a great buy!

Damn that’s some good savings with the eBay plus code. Thanks for sharing op!

    • Sony FE mount photographers are spoilt for choice when it comes to 85mm f1.4 portrait lens choices.

Thanks to OzBargain the Sony 85mm GM was near this price point for some lucky buyers awhile back.

I use the Samyang due to price, weight, size and the solid build and motor with only negative the warm colour cast and also a Canon 1.2 adapted. The build of the former does not reach the lofty heights of the GM.

This is an excellent lens if you want an alternate to the GM.

    • This is a good price, there’s a very strong rumour (sr4) that a Sony 85mm F1.2 will be out this year.

It seems that the $1087 deals on the S22+ have been the cheapest it's ever been as far as camelcamelcamel and mytechsense records show. There are only 4 available so apologies to mods and it's understandable if this is deleted but I felt that at only $887 or even cheaper for ebay plus users it could be beneficial to any ozbargainer looking for this flagship at such a low price.

  • -1

S22+ needs to be $650-699 to be considered a deal. It's got only 8gn ram which won't be enough in a year or so.

    • What on earth are you doing on that needs more than 8gb?

      • -3

Apps keep becoming bulky for no benefit to users (mostly recording taps and history & hoarding data). The same app with same functions worked well on 1gb ram in 2015. Now it slows down on 4gb ram. There was absolutely no improvements for users. Just bulky app that takes up 12x storage (8mb APK vs 100mb) and a lot more ram.

Certified refurbished by Asus AU with 1 year local pick-up & return warranty. I think you can upgrade warranty later on through the MyAsus app but don't quote on me, might be different for refurb units.

Link have 5 units in stock, and there is 1 unit avalible here for the same price, thats an identical unit, but gets per key RGB instead of 4 zone rgb keyboard. This makes for 6 units which isn't the min 10 unit requirement so if mods think this doesnt constitute a deal please feel free to merge it to the forums.

While refurbished, and not the best price for a 3060 rig, this will have the decidely better build quality and cooling than the other 3060 machines at or below this price. Plenty of RGB bling as well. Specs are as per title, not too much to be said about it here. You get a full powered 130w 3060 (for 2021 machines, 2022 ones gets +10w dynamic boost wattage) and a 8c16t 5800H, you wont miss much performance downgrade from a current gen 6800H, as the latter are really refreshed zen 3 with updated nodes and rdna2. The panel is 300hz at 1080p, which may or may not be that useful given the lack of mux switch. A decent io selection, just that you dont get a webcam, note there is a RJ45 port unlike ebay specs says. And of course, as refurbished, they come preloaded with windows 11 home now, might be a con for some folks.

Cook's Knifes are an interesting thing, the market is swamped with designs like this. I have a few at home.

I never use them, they are always blunt, who wants to constantly sharpen knives then have a dangerous sharp edge.

I have had a ten inch serrated edge cooks knife for 20 years,I use it for everything, it’s never blunt. They are almost impossible to buy at a reasonable price, rare as hens teeth.

      • I'm glad that works for you. There are many arguments against what you're saying. I'll just stick with the myth that you're serrated edge isn't blunt after 20 years without sharpening. Serrated edges do blunt, but the advantage is that they are still able to cut (tear) once they are blunt. If you're happy with your knife, there is no need for you to change it, but the value in a knife like this is that you can sharpen it easily when needed.

        • +1

What method would you recommend for keeping a knife like this sharp?

          • +3

@belispeak: Hand wash, hone before and/or after each use, store properly (ideally in a way that the blade doesn't come into contact with anything else), only use chopping boards with soft surfaces (avoid glass for example), learn how to use a stone or buy a guided stone sharpener, and sharpen as needed (this will depend on what you're cutting, how often you're using it, and how well you adhere to the other points above)

            • @Soapdroid: Interesting, you can do all that every time you use your very sharp knife then be very very careful when you handle and store it.

Or just buy a serrated edge knife and forget about it for 20 years.

You are right of course, sharp knives certainly have their place in experienced and knowledgeable hands of professional and expert cooks. For normal people though a serrated edge knife is easier.

              • +3

@Grok: Yeah, honestly it takes me 30 seconds each use to take proper care of my knives. For me, that's very much worth it. We agree though, if you're not willing or able to care for your knives, you're better off with something cheap and something serrated. Even a $1000 knife doesn't do you any good if you're not caring for it properly.

any deals on a cheaper home PC for the retired parents? for emails, browsing web etc. I'm guessing this one might be overkill for them.

was looking around for optiplex deals but seems to be slim pickings at the moment

    • Silly question to some I am sure but are these compatible with a reasonable GPX card being it's compact in size?

      • +2

GPX card is the same size as the this Micro PC.

      • +3

That's impossible for a number of reasons:

        • You can't physically fit any dedicated GPU in an SFF PC of this size.
        • The PSU supplied with these SFF PCs doesn't have the necessary power output to support a GPU.
        • The motherboard doesn't have the necessary 8x or 16x PCIe slot for a GPU to slot into.

        It's integrated graphics only.

From what I can find online, external GPUs can work with Dell OptiPlex models but your mileage might very and it might be model/config-specific.

    • +1

These little machine is great for general work and web browsing. Been using my 7060 with 8500T 16gb RAM bought from last deal for $285. Not sure if 9600T offers much improved performance?

      • +3

Passmark scores are 7742 for 8500T and 9162 for 9600T, so that's fairly substantial (18% faster).
These are synthetic numbers though, for 'standard' PC stuff you'll be hard-pressed to notice a difference.
Doing some AV work which has the CPU crunch a bit harder you'll notice it though…
Not the main use case for a PC of this type of course, but for the occasional Handbrake activity, why not…

      • +1

Doubt you'd see much improvement over that cpu… maybe 10%. I was just shocked to see 9th gen coming onto the refurb market at this price point

      • yeah same here, now I'm thinking where was it at taht time :)

        • +2

They should put this up when the 22% off code works then the price difference will be very minimal

          • @ozvictor: Tell me about it. I would have paid the extra $100 for the extra 8gb and better CPU :C

    • Good for Jellyfin server with shit tonne of transcoding clients. Intel quick sync ftw.

      • +1 for Jellyfin. Just set mine up on the Dell Optiplex 7060 from the previous deal.

    • True the 9600 is a faster clock than the 9600T but almost double the power consumption… considering heat dispersion isn't great !
I would suggest the 9600T instead, especially used PCs…

      • I'd agree and be more inclined to get the T version.

I'd imagine that the 9600 will get hotter and/or the fan will be spinning at full capacity.
