    These get really hot FYI

    • Good as a personal heater this winter ?

    • Considering they’re metal, sure they get warm. But I’ve never had a problem with them getting “too hot”. I use mine all the time and have had it on my keys for 3 years or so. Still going strong. Never had it burn me.

      • How does it stay on your keys? from the pics it doesn't show there's a small hole for a keyring

        • +5

What pictures are you looking at? There's a massive hole on one side of the drive.

        • @StoneSin: Oh that loop thing, got it. I was looking for another opening. Thanks! Does it get scratched all to hell though?

        • @pongky: not really

        • @pongky: If you put something on your key ring that you care about visuals with, take it off. Don't ever put "nice looking" things on your key rings.

You could say that means it does a better job dissipating heat from the controller and NAND than plastic sticks.

they get hot but not uncomfortably hot like the mini sandisk usb

    Pros

    Gorgeous design
Rugged build with great protection against the elements
    Key hole works well

    Cons

Mid to low range USB 3.0 Performance

Also, as noted above these get hot. Like, burning hot, without exagerating.

Edit: When clicking on the OP link, I get this bottom right message:
Hello Ozbargainer - Need any advice, talk to a expert now.
Makes me feel like a professional.

    • I love my 16GB. Yes they do get hot, but I have found mine is generally quite quick (though all my other drives are USB2). So a Sandisk maybe quicker.

I have two of these, one 32 GB and one 64 GB both bought from Harvey Norman around this price. While both are still working fine, 64 GB one now has become a 32 GB drive..! Half of the capacity is gone for some reason. I formatted the drive and checked for other issues but nothing found. Didn't claim for warranty as I was happy with 32 GB anyway. But something you may want to know..

    • +1

Have you tried using a utility like easeus and repartitioning? ust make sure you back your drive up.

    • +2

It has happened to me before when I turned a usb into a Bootable drive. A simple reformat didn't get it to revert the last time I did it.

You need to undo the partition somehow, I think i did it through the windows tool after playing around with it for a while

    • +2

Hahaha same thing happened to me! Didn't realize this was an issue though.

Easy fix, go into disk manager, delete the 32gb partition on the flash drive and reallocate the whole unpartitioned space as fat32exfat

  • Did the older models not use NAND flash memory technology?

    • +2

Basically all USB flash drives from the beginning of time have used NAND flash

      • Thats what I thought thanks.

  • This is a terrible USB that reaches around USB 2.0 speeds. I recommend strongly against.

    • Using one of these yesterday and write speed was around 30MBps, while read speed was ~115MBps (1gb movie files). Not the fastest usb for writing but a good usb to leave in the back of the tv (2 sandisk extremes do not fit side by side in my samsung tv, hence needing one slim usb stick).

      • that's your computer's problem, not the drive. This Samsung is optimized for reading only so reading is much quicker than USB2

  • I have 4 of the 32GB version (JB price-matched TGG deal, and I already had one.)
They get very hot, but for $28 it's a good deal.

  • a new generation memory device which offers NAND flash technology

    revolutionary!

  • +1

I have 2 of these (a 16 and a 32) that I use most days. Never noticed them getting hot at all.
Thanks for the post, will grab one on my travels today.

  • Pretty sure I bought this at the same price at the start of 2016.

    • Are you still using it?
      Is it still going strong?

      • Its just one of those things. I know I have one and have used it for a bit - not sure where it is now though haha but believe its still going strong.

We live in an age of weird pricing.

You would think most tech would slowly decrease in prices rather than weird jumps everywhere.

      • The manufacturing cost of technology does decrease… and conversely company profits keep on increasing! And the good little consumer keeps on paying ;)

  • Deal link shows $38 for me

    • Offer gone now

      • I got one for $28 at the Knox City (Vic) store for $28 at about 6pm tonight, even though it came up on their computer at $38, mostly because I had a printout of the web page showing $28.

Also, Ferntree Gully Officeworks have them priced at $25 as a clearance item, but they have no stock, and said that because it was a clearance item, they couldn't tell me whether any other stores had stock.

  • Is that a Samsung BAR in your pocket? or are you just happy to see me

    • Not very pleased, given the small size of this device.

  • Just walked down to the HN and it took like 30-40 mins in total because it took them forever to actually get me the USB.

Coming up as $38. so in time I walked down and got it, it had changed :(

    • So they took the extra time to change the price on you =)

  • Dang…..missed it.

Would be great for my arcade snes mini.
