The 5 ATM transactions are getting so bloody annoying.

    • +14

Agreed, it already annoyed me that I moved to UBank.

    • +4

      It’s just normal transactions.
      ATM withdrawls are excluded actually.

      • +6

I have like 2 credit cards already and I rarely go to the shops and only eat at a restaurant once a week.

      • +2

It's 5 transactions I need to give up my card points.

      • +4

Not worth another mental note in your head.

    • Sign up to Beem It and list your Orange Card on it and transfer money back and forth with a friend.

      • I use it to pay my toll account and Optus bill. Apparently only POS transactions only work.

      • +2

do beem transactions count? I thought they were eftpos

        • +1

do beem transactions count? I thought they were eftpos

Your Friend, Yes but for it to count you need to be the one sending the money when you send the money via Beem It the money transfer will be processed as a Visa transaction on your "Orange Everyday Visa Debit Card".

The person receiving the money the "refund" that's what's processed using eftpos this is how the money is delivered in their account instantly.

        • Yes they count.

    • -6

Also they increased the homeloan interest for nothing, CBA just decreased the interest while ING didn’t. Do not join them with any offer and regret later.

      • Just you wait till CBA hikes it, at least ING comes with an offset.

      • +2

At least ING isn't taking money from dead peoples accounts, which was discovered from the Royal Commission into Banking inquiry.

I wouldn't be touching the big 4 if you paid me, they have the worst practices out of all the banks.

5 * 0.01 apple pay transactions @ Woolworth self checkout.

      Not so hard

    • +4

      Agreed. I switched to RAMS

      • +11

Not sure why I was downvoted. I found making 5 purchases in-store with ING difficult as in principle I use a credit card or Woolworths e-gift cards for most/all purchases. I found RAMS therefore simpler with one $200 deposit per month. Their interest rate on their saver account is also superior at 3.0% vs ING’s 2.8%. I used to be a big fan and believer of ING, but their products are no longer as competitive, hence the switch

        • +2

Someone has their fingers faster than brain.

      • +2

Thanks. Looked into it and switched to RAMS. All these cards I can’t do 5 transactions on ING and will lose out on the bonus interest. 3% seems good without having to jump through hoops.

        • +2

You forgot to mention no withdrawls to maintain 3%. This is a pretty huge dealbreaker

        • @Your Friend:
I moved to RAMS and UBank, which is higher rate (2.87). Only need to deposit $200 per month and can withdraw anytime. The sweep feature means you can keep all your money in the interest earning saving account without transferring to the transaction account to withdraw or pay direct debits. Much more convenient than the ING set up. ING however is now the best, IMO, for withdrawing funds overseas but you just need to go through the hoops the month before travelling to get that benefit.

    • +2

Is it too late to edit your comment?

Like theguyrules pointed out, ATM withdrawals (in addition to balance enquiries, cash advances and EFTPOS cash out only transactions) are excluded, so while I agree with your sentiment, it is factually inaccurate.

I would love to have a dig at ING, and I thank you for your comment, but due the inaccuracies of your statement I award you no points, and may scotty have mercy on your soul.

    • They waive that for people with home loans with them.

Never been a better time to be in debt

Just make 5 split payments at Woolies or Coles of 1 cent each :D

ING doesn't confirm you entered the code and it's hard to dispute with them (or bring to the ombudsman) if you don't have the proof.

    • +2

Yeah I signed my GF up last month for a measly $25 each, but we never got it.

      • +2

I think when I did it, it took several months for the credit to occur in the account, so fingers crossed for you still

        • Wow really? Awesome! Did you get any warning or did it just appear.

        • +1

@theguyrules: it just appears as Miscellaneous credit, did take a while tho.

        • @theguyrules: sorry for the late reply. It just appeared one day, which was a nice surprise, because I thought it wasn’t going to happen

        • @brian77: Yeah mine appeared at the start of this month.
          better late than never!

    • +3

Anecdotally and n=1, I had no problem with the $75 code.

  • Worth it if your already considering a new everyday account. take out $200 at efpos and you get an extra 50c bonus.

  • +7

don't bother if you ever had ING account before

    • what do you mean? even if you cancelled in the past, would they still not allow you to get the bonus as you are technically opening a new account?

      • "if you have previously held an Orange Everyday bank account since 1 July 2014, then you are ineligible for this offer."

Woohoo!! I closed my previous ING Orange account in April 2014, shortly after my 5% cashback promo ended. Ka-ching! I knew those 4 years of waiting patiently to strike would not be in vain ;-)

The best was when they had $250 iconic credit for the referer and referee each.

    • I haven't seen any offer by ING for $250 in the last 4-5 years…

    • +1

They had $195 cash credit about 7-8yrs ago for referrer and referee. That's up there with the best as well.

      • +1

5% cash back on paywave. Those were the days.

  • still haven't got mine $75 from last promotion in MAY.

Marketing people not happy to provide help.

    • Haven't got mine from June either. Have you considered making a complaint?

      • Same - havn't got mine from June either - I got the email telling me what I needed to do to get the $75 signup bonus (deposit $1K and make 5 purchases before end of month (which I did))

  • So you only have to do the deposit and 5 card transactions for 1 month then you get the $75?

    • +1

I was wondering the same. To get benefits like no ATM fees worldwide etc, do you still have to continue 5 transactions plus $1,000 deposit every month? Or is it just the first month and then you can leave the account along still getting the benefits.. Can someone please confirm. Thanks

      • +1

You will only get the benefits for next month, if this month you deposit $1000 and have 5 card transactions. If it is not bonus interest you are after, but say, rebate of international fees, you could plan it such that you carry out the commitments this month to get the benefits next month during travel. Otherwise, it amounts to a continuing commitment.

  • I took this screenshot on Thursday the 26/07 that there was a $100 referral available… looks like they’ve reduced it but advertised it more with the $75. Might be worth calling up and asking if they’ll honour the $100 bonus….

  • So this is as good as, if not better than, Citibank Plus account for international purchases and travel (ATM cash out)??

    No ING international transaction fees
Shop online and overseas and you pay no ING international transaction fees.

    ATMs absolutely everywhere
Free ATMs everywhere in Australia - and at all the 3.5million+ ATMs around the world we'll rebate the ATM fee within 5 business days.

    • Interested to know this too. I’ve got the Citi card still from my last trip but use ING as my regular bank. Is it worth even keeping my Citi card?

      • +1

I had the two cards with me when travelling.

I have to say the ATM fee rebate is handy, though.

        • Did you try using overseas ATM with both cards? and the ING had no fees at all (After rebate)??

        • +2

@chanwilson01: Just having a look at my previous transactions - there were four transactions. The first one being the amount taken, the ATM fee rebate, the withdrawal fee and then the withdrawal fee rebate.

So while the overseas ATM withdrawal incurred fees, ING reimbursed me for those amounts.

For Citibank, free ATM depends on the country and bank.

          Hopefully that helps :)

        • +2

          @Opulentus:
          Thanks that's great!
Which mean ING would actually be better as you can withdraw from any (overseas)ATM basically for free, while with Citibank you might have to pay for an ATM fee if it charges one

I'm going to Japan in Oct, will probably keep both to test it out myself.
Citibank is pretty slow for transferring money in and out, and it doesn't support Android/Apple pay
So ING would be a better long term solution if it's fee free for international transactions, providing they won't change their policy in the future lol

        • +3

@chanwilson01: Pretty much - just make sure to remember have the five transactions completed in the month of September as the fee-free withdrawals start from the following month :)

For Japan specifically, I took money out of ATMs from Family Mart as well as 7-Eleven - ING reimbursed me for the fees there.

As an additional extra, here is some additional reading that might help for Japan: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/359796

        • @Opulentus:
Cheers! Thanks for the tips!! :)

        • +1

@chanwilson01: I went to Japan last year with my Citibank card. No issues and no fees at the airport ATM and 7-Eleven ATM's.

A few bank ATM's wouldn't accept my card.

        • @stickyfingers:
Did any ATM indicates there's a fee but doesn't show up on statement?
I wonder if the machine would add the fee to the final charge
ie. withdrawing $10,000 yen with 100 yen fee, instead of showing separately, it might have charged $10,100 but because we only see the converted amount which will be hard to spot???

I'm asking this because I see some of the members here said that even the ATM says they would be charged a fee but didn't end up seeing a "fee" on statement
Did you check the conversion rates??

        • +1

@chanwilson01: Personally, I've never had an ATM fee mysteriously appear on my card at some point in time in the future.

I've always had ATMs that intend to charge me notify me of the intended charge and the amount.

        • @Opulentus:

Yes Citibank card is fine in Japan as you can easily access fee free ATM's. This can be difficult in other countries especially Thailand and this is where ING is best. Also saves the hassle of looking for fee free ATM's.

  • Terms & condition please!

    • If you have previously held an Orange Everyday bank account since 1 July 2014, then you are ineligible for this offer.

  • Hey guys do you still get promotion email from ING?? Because I have not got any email from them a long time ago

  • -2

I thought this was pretty good.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/188957

  • Can you combine with a friend referral to get an extra $25?

  • I just starting reading a book call Barefoot Investor. It mentioned how good the ING no-fee accounts are…this offer will be motivation to open one

  • Do ing support payid/osko?

  • Do you need to maintain the $1000 until the payment is done? I'm thinking of depositing $1000 and completing the 5 purchases, then withdrawing most of it.

    • +1

No the $1000 can practically leave your account a few minutes later and if your bank supports NPP: PayID/Osko it'll return to your originating bank practically instantly.

  • +1

Any Ideas of the rebate given in Thailand ATMs?

Is the total 200baht ($8) refunded in any atm or just a certain bank

What is there exchange rates like compared to Citibank?

  • The $100 referral for both referrer and referee was a better deal. It got my folks to finally let me move them from their Suncorp account with crazy monthly fees.

Really wish they'd bring that back though, considering it dropped to $25 for each party in the last campaign, I'm not holding my breath.

  • +2

I have recently closed all my ING accounts, the 5 transactions per month is a deal breaker for me!

    • +1

I did not closed them but I have no money there. I will reactivate orange the month before travelling overseas. Since they are fee free accounts this is not a problem. The Orange needs a deposit once every 6 months and the Maximiser once every 24, not that onerous.

  • So if i opened an account on july 25th, do i need to have transferred $1000 + 5 transactions by 1st of August or the 25th of August? Calendar month term is a bit confusing.

    • How is "calendar month" confusing???

To be eligible for the $75 bonus payment, you must:

Open an Orange Everyday bank account, and enter the promotional code at the time of account opening. Invalid or incomplete codes will not be fulfilled.
Deposit $1,000 or more within a calendar month from an external account (another bank) into your new Orange Everyday account by 30 September 2018
Use your new Orange Everyday card for purchases at least 5 times within any calendar month by 30 September 2018 (excluding ATM withdrawals, balance enquiries and EFTPOS cash out only transactions)

  • -1

Offer is only available to first 10000 applicants so there’s no way to prove anything, even if one takes a screenshot. I’m not surprised so many here complain about not receiving the offer bonus $75

    • -1

They told a number of us, who helped out friends and family (so we were there and helped out ensuring the code was entered), that the reason the commission would not be paid, was the code wasn't entered.

It was not that they had handled 10,000

  • +2

Received my bonus a few days ago. Opened the account a month ago.
Shows as the following on my statement

    Miscellaneous Credit +$75
    Treat-ING You

  • How is the 5 transactions a month breaking some people? I use my card for practically everything I buy.

    • +1

I don't, I pay everything with a credit card I have for the points and also to keep my money in my savings account until the due date. This is why is a breaking point for me.

  • Am I correct that there's nothing specified to say that the $1k deposit must be done in one go?

Just mentions depositing at least a grand in the calendar month…so depositing $500, transferring it out, then back in again should do the trick? After all, they still add up as deposit credits on the statement at the end of the month.

Can anyone confirm they did it in parts and/or by reusing the same funds such that they never had more than $1k in there at a time?

  • Is it fine if I deposit $1000 and make 5 transactions and then cash out the rest!? Will I still get $75?

    • You should. But why would you do that. Thr maxi does offer a good rate.

  • what does it mean 5 transaction every month, these comments are confusing. Is it ongoing months or just one month? why are people so bothered with 5 transactions if its just 1 month?

    • +1

Every month you need to make at least 5 transactions on everyday card and put in 1k to get the bonus intetest on maxi is how I understand it.

    • You are confusing the $75 cashback vs the Max Interest rate for the savings account. For the cashback the conditions mentioned need to be met in a month, for the Max interest rate is ongoing.

  • +2

ING say 5 transactions every month, does international transaction count towards the 5 required as i could very well be out of Australia in a calendar month !
