    Wow these prices are horrible

    • Similar spec with tech fast is double the price!

      100% true… Absolutely ridiculous

The code seems to be broken atm.

    • Code not working for me either.

Edit: Code is working now (~10:32am)

In the computer components section everything is still a good amount dearer than umart/msy with their 20% off. Horrible prices. I think the best deal was one thing that was the same price.

    • The Galax RTX 2070 EX is $996 on eBay ($796.8 after 20% off). This is currently $699 (Free pick-up or $13 delivery) on umart. I would say, not as amazing as the computer alliance Gigabyte variety (I missed out due to limited stock).

  • hmmm Can't find any bargain for Power supplies, PC case. most of it after discount is the same price or not much cheaper than PCcasegear, Centrecom, etc.

  • +3

Not one bargain that I saw, they will even cost you more most of the time.

  • Samsung evo 860 1TB is $217ish after 20% discount. Not sure if cash back still valid but haven’t received cash back from purchase lodged before Christmas! Such a slow process.

    • +4

Cashback promotion ended Dec 31, 2018 AFAIK. You can still claim cashbacks from SSDs purchased before then until Jan 28, 2019.

      See: https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/ssd-cashback/

    • slow process…. still waiting also

    • +1

Mine was approved 5 days ago and "Your $45 EFT payment into your nominated Australian bank account should occur within twenty-eight (28) days of the date of this email".

      • Oh wow. That sucks!
I’d down vote it but it’s not your fault.

        • +1

No complaints from me actually, as long as it comes through in the end. Much better than the old days of sending in a paper form and maybe if you're lucky 4 months later a cheque comes in the mail.

  • WD Red 4TB - $156 not a bad deal - cheaper than anything local according to static ice got a dying parity drive so can't wait!

    • Just ordered from Amazon for $165, after 5% cashback pretty much the same price.

  • +2

This TPlink router has a $60 Woolies gift card offer, bringing the net price to $99.20 after 20% discount.

There is some other TP-link gear also with a gift card offer, but this one offers the best value IMHO

Edit: Here is the promo on TP-link website. Does not appear to be exclusive to Techmall. Maybe can buy the eligble products from any TP-link seller.

It's known as the eBay 20% Off Scam.

      • +1

        but but but 30000 upvotes

      • +1

It is also illegal. You cannot raise prices prior to a sale.., any claimed discounts must be genuine, and off the typical price of the retailer.

It’s disgraceful that the ACCC and Fair Trading have done nothing.

    Kind Regards,

Similar pc at the techfast sale was hundreds of dollars cheape. This is not a deal.

      • OK thank you very much for your response.

Looks like i will what for another techfast sale

  • Xiaomi Roborock S50 for $480 (after discount) seems not awful.

Nowhere near the $400 before Christmas, but ~$50 cheaper than elsewhere.

    • Yep - hiked the price to $599 for this sale. Better off waiting I think - even a 10% off on the 'normal' price will beat this offer.

  • +11

Can we put a ban on this spam?

    • +10

We can't ban eBay from doing this but we (ozb) can ban this store from being posted here.

      • that's what I mean shoulda been clearer :-)

    • -1

Sorry they don't sell spam. This however is a popular deal.

      • +1

        And this will be.

        • +2

Always a few who can't appreciate a good deal.

          • +3

@Clear: That's a handful of items. I've looked carefully across the major parts and the best deals are often a handful of dollars cheaper than listings on StaticICE. Most are higher.

That's not good enough for a sale, especially when we're in the middle of massive hardware refreshes (AMD, NVIDIA, new monitor panels, headsets/audio, TVs, etc).

            • +1

@jasswolf: If you've been around the community long enough you'll know this is normal for an eBay 20% off X sale. There will be a handful of gems and everything else expensive.

              • +1

@Clear: I know that it's far from perfect, but it's never really been acceptable, nor has it ever been quite this bad.

For brand new products, I'd expect this kind of code to yield a 5-8% discount off MSRP, and older products to deliver 12-15%. That's not happening here.

                • +2

@jasswolf: Trust me it's been worse. I once posted one that yielded no deals whatsoever. Nothing.

The difference here is it only takes 1 to neg vote and the rest follow. That didn't happen to me.

        • Sacrificing a few hundred dollars of cheap product doesn't justify price jacking the rest.

Bought a Xiaomi Scooter before Christmas and stuck on delivery. Company will not return emails. Suspect they are selling stock they don't have and issuing fake tracking numbers…

Also price jacking. Scooter went from $750 to $850 just after buying.

    • +1

      Same for me :(

    • +5

Note to mods (and tech.mall fanbois): negging due to issues with retailer.

Blatent price jacking ($749 to $875) per my last deal. Also added that others have ordered and still not received or even had notification of item being sent. Some were offered refunds and then the scooters were price jacked for this sale.

Scooters are stuck at Chullora and even AusPost can't tell us what has happened. I suspect these are fake tracking numbers and are not picked up, but waiting fulfillment. Dirty tactic to avoid late postage punishment. Very "AliExpress" tactic to use.

  • +5

The problem with these ebay jacking scams is if you neg the deal, 50 billion people neg your neg and it gets erased.

    Meh.

  • +5

    Price jack.

    Mod: Vote solicitation removed

  • Grabbed a couple of 8TB NAS drives for $305 each after discount ($355 at PLE)

  • I don't understand the negativity towards Tech Mall specifically as futu_online, Shopping Express and other stores on eBay do the exact same every time there is a particular 20% off sale.

    • And it will always happen. It's like bad drivers on the road. Something that there will always be and you'll just have to accept :)

    • I'm pretty negative towards all of the ebay 20% off 'deals', especially the tech ones. I used to neg the deals but was easily shouted down for suggesting they are really just cheap forms of advertising when you factor in the price jacks.

  • SSD prices are very meh.

  • +1

    Meh… all RTX 2080 are overpriced…

  • +10

Don't buy from them & make a complaint to ACCC

What they're doing with their 20% off fake prices is misleading & deceptive.

    From ACCC:

Statements such as 'Was $150/Now $100' or '$150 Now $100' are likely to be misleading if products have not been sold at the specified 'before' or 'strike through' prices in a reasonable period immediately before the sale commences.

Such statements are also likely to be misleading if only a limited proportion of a product's sales were at the higher price in the period immediately before the sale commences. The volume or proportion of sales that may result in such statements being misleading will depend on the circumstances of each case

  • +2

Comment to allow neg. Also, dont support these scammers

  • +2

Horse Jack . load of bs!!!!

  • +1

    Rubbish! Ridiculous price jacking!

  • +3

Sellers who offer discounts but price jack should be banned.

  • Wow 20% off! this never happens must be a bargain right?

    • +1
      • They mean the whole situation of majority of stock being price jacked for the 20% discount. You'd rather just post the one deal than say the shop is having 20% off because almost all of it has raised prices more than that amount.

      • It's still dishonest marketing IMO.

Providing 3 or 4 actual deals from a uncatalogued of thousands where 99% have been price jacked is still deceptive IMO. So I neg on that basis.

  • why do we feature this seller when there's no bargain due to price manipulation

    • You need to ask the sheep who + vote the deal. If the deal was posted and nobody + voted it, then it would remain in oblivion where it belongs.

  • These prices are a joke. With the 20% off discount code, they manage to price match for the same monitors from other stores.

  • No deal. Most prices are already Jacked up.

  • A couple of examples as I'm doing the rounds looking for a good deal and sadly these guys can't help me pull the trigger!
Nvidia Shield TV with remote…everyone sells for RRP at $249. TM = $275 (10.4% higher) to start. $220 (with 20% off) versus $199 at the true RRP.
Nvidia Shield TV with controller…everyone sells for RRP at $329. TM = $365 (10.9% higher) to start. $292 (with 20% off) versus $263 at the true RRP.
With blanket eBay deals on non-jackers, patience will snare you a genuinely good deal

  • +1

Inflated prices, hardly any true bargains to be found. No deal.

  • At least 5 or 10% off site wide would be ideal.

  • Those upvoting should post what they bought and for how much to save anyone from accidently thinking this as a deal.

    • +1

      Alright I’ll reply here.

When I was looking for a Xiaomi nightlight on eBay, they were the cheapest. $25 each, free delivery and then $10 off. I didn’t want to wait for a banggood or aliexpress deal so 2 nightlights for $40 I thought was good value.

Item arrived pretty fast and no issues.

    • That's easy! 128GB Micro SD Card for $28.80. Bargain!

    WARNING:

purchase from Tech.Mall at your own risk; The experiences of OzBargainers with fake shipping numbers, misleading stock levels on eBay, and generally poor communications/lies from the seller are rampant. eBay Feeback, OzBargain Discussion

Also as Pegaxs wrote above, they price jacked their Xiaomi Scooters from 750 to 875 on the 20% off deal - just dodgy

  • +2

Absolute garbage. 20% and still more expensive than anywhere else

    • 20% and still more expensive than anywhere else

Ludicrous. Samsung Evo Plus 128GB is $28.80 at Tech Mall and $96 at Harvey Norman though previously reduced to $33.

      • +2

More expensive at Harvey Norman? No way!!!

        • +1

That's what I thought but he did say everything is more expensive than everyone else!

  • Sweet, been waiting for UE megaboom 3 to go down to around $200

  • +3

I'm negging this deal because of the seller. Horrendous to deal with, especially if you have a problem with the item. Took me almost two weeks of emailing to get an item refunded after I paid the shipping to send the incorrect item back to them. Definitely a case of buyer beware.

  • Any deals on popcorn??

  • Track record of slow fulfilment and flaky response to any service emails. And during the 'deal' everything is well above RRP.

  • Just Another Commentator Knowing Other Financial Figures

  • -3

OH now you guys are finally negging? But a power cord at RRP at bunnings makes the front page and any negs are removed. FML.
