  • Plenty of stock available at the JB-HiFi store in Myaree (WA). $299 pricing was visible and the staff were friendly as well.

    • That is good to know.
JB Cannington WA aren't playing along at all.

    • Myaree's run out but the Telstra store in the same shopping centre has them, just bought one for $299.

  • Anyone knows how to flash Telstra Rom?

  • I'm confused, it says it's MMS/SMS and voice capable, so is it just some kind of really big, 7" touchscreen phone?

    • Yes. Provided you're happy to use it with a bluetooth headset or as a speakerphone. It doesn't have a speaker for the ear like a normal phone.

I'm looking at using one as a phone replacement and using a bluetooth headset.

      • using a bluetooth headset.

Yes use a bluetooth headset, best option with this as you can do phone calls

      • Where are you going to put the 7" phone as you move around? It's too big to fit in a pocket, unless you are a big guy.

        • I was just going to carry it in a leather carry case.

        • "Is that a Galaxy Tab in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"

  • Thanks! got one from Indooroopilly and a free belkin case!

    • Did you bargained for the free case or they just offered you? That is really cool~

      • That guy @ JB was trying to sell me the cases (leather one rrp $79.95, fabric rrp $39.95 ) for half price, i said no to both, then he decided to give me one for free! On the receipt the tablet is $379 and belkin sleeve is $20.

          haha lol nice

yeah JB are always keen and easy to haggle with

        • +1

Edit: It's $279 for the Galaxy Tab (anyone can tell me how to edit comment?)
Indooroopilly (QLD) shop had around 10 units in stock around 4pm, you may still want to call them before heading there.

        • +1

Any chance you could post the receipt please, minus your details. Had secured mine with my credit card awaiting pick up and maybe haggle when I go pick-up, hope not too late.

        • jbs sales people are judged by accessory attatchment so its not surprising he gave it away if he couldnt sell it

  • what is optus doing with their Galaxy Tabs??? even tho it probably doesn't matter that much (cause i don't go rural very often), i'd still prefer an optus one.

    come on optus!

  • Before I open the box and break the seal - do these only come in one colour? Mine says Arctic White and the guy told me it only comes in one colour. Just want to make sure in case there is a black version.

    • front is black
      back is white

      • +1

There is a black version (front black back white) and an all white version.

Seems the black ones are mostly all sold out. All the branches I phoned only have white in stock.

    • +2

This is the new Samsung Galaxy Tab: Michael Jackson edition.

  • +2

My model is "Chic white" Black on the front and sides, white on the back.

  • Melbourne South Wharf sold out. Melbourne Lonsdale/Eliz also sold out.

  • Thanks to OP I just bought 3 for $279 each at the Albert street store in Brisbane.

    • Oh yeah there's another 5 left if anyone in Brisbane wants one.

    • Price dropped to $279 already. Just got mine yesterday and now I am $20 worse off.
      Why didn't I waited… Oh well…

        Why didn't I waited… Oh well…

haha at least you didn't pay the initial cost of these

these may even drop down to $200 in the next few weeks

    • +1

Can someone who got them for $279 each scan the invoice? One of my mates is interested. Would be easier to bargain with a copy of the invoice.

    • can this be price matched at DSE?

Receipt for $279 with $20 case, sorry it's wet as my dog got it, if you want the "dry" one please let me know, I'll upload it later :P

    • Please upload the dry one :)

        Good luck!
I hope I could get it for $279 without the case, you can get batter case for $6-$7 from ebay. I was so happy and my dog was waiting outside so had no time to bargain. I may go back tmr to get one for my brother!

        • Thanks champ, damm I paid $299 for them earlier, getting cheaper each day!

        • I got the last one in JB Indooroopilly (still two or three in store but are held for someone).
I paid $299 this time, I was told they're not allowed to give any discount and they have no idea why the guy yesterday gave me free case, hope it didn't cause that guy any trouble.
I played with mine the whole night and I love it!

  • I tried to get one from JB in Mac Centre, the guy said he only going to sell one to me if either I'm with telstra or I know how to reprogram the software as the software was programmed for telstra only (I guess its different with locked with telstra) and it wont work with other provider. I'm using 3 now, anyone know what I should do?

    • So there is a chance that JB Hifi is selling a Telstra Locked Galaxy Tab?

      • My one is from JB and it is not locked. I have my TPG sim in it.

        • Hi Turando. I got one of these today, and am on the TPG talk and text caps medium plan which included 1G of data. I have tried using both my Sim and my husbands Sim. I cant get 3G on either. Can make calls and video calls, but not surf the net. Did you just put your Sim in and it worked with 3G?
So frustrating. I hope I havent got a dodgy one!!

    @joshka

I had the same problem too. Go to http://optusau.wdsglobal.com/ —> Choose your phone, smartphone or handheld computer —> GPRS internet —> Choose your phone and follow instructions.

    Hope this helped :)

    • Enya8. Thank you thank you thank you!!! It worked like a charm. I now have full access. I googled it and couldnt find anything. You saved me alot of time taking it back. If you ever come to WA I will buy you a beer!! Thanks again
      Sharon

      • Alternatively this works too:
You need to set the APN. Please follow instruction shown in the following website: http://ausdroid.net/apns/

  • I know this isnt the place to be putting up something like this, but I just thought it would be worth a shot as im desperate atm.

So basically it all started with not being able to setup a google account on the tablet, and wasnt able to find the log in through youtube fix(not sure if they meant through app or browser, but now it doesnt really matter), which is what a number of people suggested as a fix, so i resorted to a settings and storage clear data method through settings/applications. Cleared the data, was only a bout 48kb or so. Powered it off and then powered it on, and now it doesnt get past the samsung logo on screen (just keeps repeating and vibrating. So did a bit more surfing and found the "hold power and volume up keys" method to get it to the "terminal" system recovery screen. tried another reboot, ended up same way. so went back to the "terminal" and cleared cache, still nothing. So i resorted to what i wish i wouldnt have to do, a factory reset (wipe settings/data etc). sure enough it booted up fine. but with alot less of what i guess was pre-installed, and it feels like a few of the apps around are missing (only one i could remember was Tribe). Now i cant update samsung apps (no sim card error message) and still wont let me sign into google accounts through market, along with whatever might have come with it straight from telstra (not sure if anything special pre-installed was on there, unlocked? i dont know) No idea what the firmware was when it first arrived (i should have checked that first).

So my question/plea for help is, did the samsung galaxy tab (unlocked from Telstra) come with any extra features/apps/software/installation that i may have removed by clearing the data in settings and doing a factory reset.

What firmware was the galaxy tab running at (or latest).

Lastly, how can i get my google account activated (using wifi only).

Thanks first for reading through all of that if you have done so, and secondly sorry for any grammar or punctuation hiccups.

I realize I am a bit of a boofhead running straight into this following random hearsay on other forums and should have done a bit more research before jumping the gun, or atleast, come here first before trying anything.

    I await the cavalry :)

  • @enya8 Thanks for the advice given. I've tried it, but I still cannot connect to 3G. How do we know if we received an unlocked galaxy tablet? My box has telstra logo on it, does that mean it's locked to Telstra? Any other ways I try to get my 3G working?

    Thanks.

  • Westfield Sydney still had about 25 left on the shelf at 9:30am this morning - bought one myself, looks like a better size for the briefcase than the iPad, and am getting sick of the whole converting video to iPad thing anyway.

    • Did jb do it for $279 instead?

    • What's the final price you get from JB Westfield?

      • $299. Getting my GST back soon for it though :)

  • I just bought one from JB Mt Druitt. The lady said they had 10 in stock. Wouldn't do it for $279 but not complaing.

  • Hi,

Just wondering any one tried to test the battery life? I benchmarked my battery last nite with a battery app. It says it will only last 5 hours in playing movies (wi-fi on). from the report it says it can run about 7 hours. Any1's done the same thing? Thanks.

    • Watched videos for 5 hours last night. 100% - 40%.

So I'd say that the battery would last at least 7 hours on videos, probably 8+.

  • Has anyone tried to get a non-Telstra (eg Optus Reseller) store to price match?

  • +1

    Friends,
Amazing tablet a great price..Works great… Way handier than Apple Ipad… I got it for 280 at JBHIFI Northland shopping center. Go and grab one….

  • One dude just bought the whole stocks remaining at JBHIFI Westfield Sydney.
I think it is around 100 pieces of Samsung Galaxy Tab.
    Stock level is now zero

    • broden at work?

  • +3

He must have planned to sell it on ebay. Hehehe, he'll cry if the price is dropped again which i'm sure it will.

      • ebay fee + paypal fee… haha, that guy didn't do his homework, same for some ipad on ebay, I saw some listing ended at only $50 above the cost price, minus all those fees he is even selling at loss.
  • I bought mine yesterday from JB Hi-Fi in Bunbury WA for $279.00 My Dad went in thismorning and got one also for $279.00 showing them my receipt. Really nice staff there too. I just LOVE this Tab. I havent owned one before but judging by the comments here it was a bargain and a great unit. So glad I purchased one.

  • I just got mine from JB HIFI in Ozone, Knox City, for $279 using the Tax Invoice.

    thanks…

    • hi, can you please be so kind to upload the invoice from the knox city? I am trying to use the queensland invoice, the guy wont honor me…

There is a recent post on Whirlpool forum that Optus has begun to sell them for $229 today. The model might be slightly different from Telstra's .

    • Yeah I just saw that. If its true that fits my "$250 and I will buy" mantra I've been spouting since last week. Damn.

    • +1

      $229? FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

    • +1

…wait you sure, just had a check

there was nothing about Optus having it for $250, only being the cost price of $250 and that optus should pricematch/beat telstra

  • Called JB Myaree, Booragoon and Gateways… non of them are selling …..

    • +1

Instead of JB at Garden City, go to the Telstra store there. Just got mine :)

      • Oh well it was pretty late last night so didn't bother….

But when i called the JB gateways, she mention that they didn't run out of stock, but they are not allowed to sell it as something is coming …. but she said she cant tell what's the reason….

        Well hopefully something better ….

        • I heard the same thing from JB Cannington! We'll see what they're up to next week, keep your eyes on the catalogues.

      • Ok I endup getting it from telstra garden city. They said just got new stock on thursday so they got plenty left.

  • Yea so did dicksmith said the exactly same thing

  • @issh the WP link for the alleged $229 Galaxy Tab from Optus is here…
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1681869&p…

It would be so funny if it turns out it is that crappy ZTE my touch tab thingy they have, but I'm sure that was $150 or something. Anyway I guess we will find out when the shops open tomorrow.

    • he mentioned it's optus tab. If that's the case, i'll just have to buy another one. let's wait and see.

  • Is this not the same exact deal as Telstra is offering online with free delivery?

    • yes it is but a lot of people prefer to go into a store and pick it up and not worry about deliveries and some of the orders taking days to just be put through.

      • +1 I went to pic it up coz idont want to wait for it

  • +1

    Hello All,

Hate to be the one to burst everyone's bubble but the Optus $229 Promo Price is FALSE!

I just spoke to 3 Optus Shops and they all knew nothing about it. They confirmed $299 is under their buy price and $229 would just never happen.

One indicated their "promo price" was $829 outright :-0

Don't worry I'm as disappointed as the rest of you I was all set for trip to the shops!

    • We'll have to wait and see what JB HiFi's "Something is coming" translates to.

I wonder if that starts today or next week.

    • I just visited Optus at Mirrabooka (WA) and the guy didn't know the price. He scanned it and it was $839!

I don't know how that guy got the quote for $229.

  • Hello all, tried to reach a few JB stores in Melbourne, and seems like most are out of stock. Anyone know any JB store in melb still have some in stock? i am looking to buy one…

Also, spoken to about 5 stores I rang , they mentioned that it will be back in stock 2 weeks later with a new catalogue. Does that means the price will be differ again? will they increase or reduce it? I am confused now.

    • I bought on 21 April 2011 (Thursday) at around 8PM from JBHifi Plenty Valley (Westfield). Before leaving home I asked them to hold one for me but they said that they still have plenty in stock. On Friday, I showed it to my relatives and they wanted me to get some for them as well.

So I returned today to JBHifi Plenty Valley and was about to buy 4 for my relatives. I was told that I can only get 2 as there are only 4 left. I said fine, but when the shop assistant was about to create the receipt, on their computer screen there was somekind of message screen from the main office to stop selling all Samsung Galaxy Tablet and the SKU has been made inactive. The message dated 20/04/2011 (Wednesday) around 4PM. Then I said, funny, I just bought one on Thursday night after 8PM (so the SKU was still active on Thursday) and she said, "Well, obviously someone wasn't supposed to sell it to you at that time anyway".

So, she said she can't proceed with the purchase cause she doesn't wanna get in trouble. Fine. I couldn't argue more.

I then went onto to Telstra Store in Plenty Valley and refused to sell it to me because they originally bought the store at a higher price and said that it is "Online Offer Only". I then asked, "Is this a direct Telstra Store or franchisee?" and the shop assistant said, "This is a Telstra Store". I then left and checked the Plenty Valley store number on Telstra website and it showed something with 039xxxxxx (instead of 131800) so it must be a Telstra franchisee. So, I left and went to Northland Shopping Centre and both Telstra Stores (131800 number) were already out of stock. JBHifi Northland was also out of stock.

It seems that the best way is to get it online as they provide free delivery anyway.

Don't bother walking into JBHifi only to be refused due to that message in their circular page in RED BOLD texts (I read it myself).

I tried calling 131800 but they weren't able to help. They can deliver it faster to me if I want to buy Galaxy Tab on PLAN. For outright, I have to find it in Telstra Stores or Online.

Sounds like a stupid effort for me driving around looking for one but I had to get one soon cause some of my relatives are leaving overseas.

      • Give your one to your relatives and wait for another lot coming, who knows the price drop :P

        • Haha… I can't. The Tab was for my Wife and she already started using it. She's grown too attached to it already.

  • just got the last one at modbury JB Hi-Fi for $299, kinda spitting chips i didnt try to haggle down to $279 like some of you guys though!

  • I called jb nothing left in Melbourne I went into Telstra there is plenty in stock and picked one up. The Optus store I went into said thetab is still 849 so I think whirlpool guys rumouring. Postings this from my galaxy tab :)

    • which Telstra store did you go to ?

      • Highpoint

    • Which store was this at?
