    Last week min $120 purchased, and max $300 discount per transaction. its worse and worse;

  • lol its gonna be min spend 250 max spend 251 at this rate

  • +1

Is there a way we Can do Negative vote for eBay in ozbargain ? Thanks

  • +4

EBay used to always be the first place I'd check for pricing. This is slowing becoming a rarity these days.

    • You mean quickly becoming a rarity. The coupons are getting worse at a very fast pace.

  • +2

Minimum spend up and maximum discount down, plus price jack.
It doesn't set up a pleasant tone at the beginning of the year.

  • +1

    Nothing against OP, ebay sucks.

  • +3

Another week of eBay providing us with an even more disappointing offer.

What's it going to be next week $200/$20?

    Mod: Vote solicitation removed.

  • +1

    max discount $50? :/

  • +2

Sorry have to compare with previous eBay deal and this is getting worse. So neg to the deal, not to you OP.

      • +1

        Unhelpful comment is unhelpful.

If we all negged it, ebay might actually listen to the bad press. I believe a couple hundred negs continuously with every ebay post would have an effect.

        • … If
          … might
          … believe

That is not what the architecture of the voting system is designed for.

By negging, you are in essence saying that the deal is better off not being posted at all, which is ludicrous, given the multiple examples of people in the comments having saved money using this deal.

          • -3

            @Tafe:

By negging, you are in essence saying that the deal is better off not being posted at all

Users that still have the 15% discount code to use would find this deal "not the cheapest available" which is inline of a neg vote.

            multiple examples of people

            Two is not "multiple examples"

Multiple examples of people are however expressing issues with the retailer

            • @MaXcon: Sorry, so to clarify - for the people that don't have access to a 15% off code (the majority of people) is this deal is not worth posting?

If you've read through the voting guidelines and come to the conclusion that negative votes should apply to a deal offering SOME discount, when the likely alternative is ZERO discount then you cannot be helped.

              • +2

@Tafe: Long run, people keep upvoting, people keep buying, discounts keep getting worse. We're ALREADY living that reality with eBay - didn't you notice?

It's only worth posting if it can be negged to try bring some sanity back to ebay by saying we're not happy!

          • @Tafe:

given the multiple examples of people in the comments having saved money using this deal.

Well we don't actually know this. They may have saved money or they may have just bought something on eBay without shopping around because of the code.

  • Thanks Ebay.

Just signed up to ebayplus trial (cancelled the direct debit).
Got bottle of Jack Daniels, Jameson, case of cricketers arms, and a 10 pack Grand Ridge pale ale. All for $135 delivered from First Choice.

Way cheaper than my local. Bargain!

  • +4

So very disappointing min spend. Ebay is a farce now.

  • Wouldn't it be funny if Ebay was just trolling ozbargain just for sheets and giggles. Lol

  • +1

Still waiting for minimum spend $50…

    • +1

well you better wait for a time travel machine,so you can go back to 3 years earlier.

  • +5

Disappointed. Ebay, you have let us down. shame on you!

  • +1

Was going to use this code to buy iPhone XS from 3brothers, realised it was $50 max off and went looking for a better option. Officeworks ended up price matching 3brothermobiles.com.au and I saved $203.25 off normal iPhone price instead of $134. They did say it was a once off though because apparently 3 brothers has 2 prices listed (both prices are under $1600 anyway.)

  • +2

Saw this deal and thought oh goody 10% off but then I saw the $150 min spend. Have now cancelled my ebay plus membership, which will last until August (signed up with $29 annual fee last year). They need to seriously pick up their game. Amazon needs to capitalise on this!

  • +2

It's funny to read, that people complain about the minimum spend is too high … but the max discount is too low. So if you're going to spend over $500, who cares what the min spend is. But it seems it's cool to complain about getting free stuff.

I've long since cancelled my eBay plus. Shop around, that always where the bargain is at.

    • +3

On the same boat going to cancel.

      Never again eBay plus!

    • +4

Good reminder. Just cancelled my membership now, I cant seem to find any benifits in it anymore… when they launched it it seemed special, not anymore.

Started an AMAZON PRIME trial last week so will see how that goes !

Negging the ebay deal here OP, not you. High minimum spend with low discount potential = no deal for me.

  • +5

So I can get 10% off alcohol but not car parts ? I still can't figure out car parts being excluded.

  • +3

    Disgusting min spend! Repulsive.

    • -1

What do they owe you? It's a sliding scale, like with any business. Hate to see how you go with Woolworths/Coles

  • Min spend. Max discount.

  • eBay is taking the piss now! I wish those gift cards I bought a while ago were PayPal gift cards instead of eBay gift cards.

  • +5

Think we are done with eBay.

Also don't bother keeping eBay plus not worth it.

If only Amazon gives us better deals I jumped ship already!

  • +8

These deals are getting worse and worse. Higher minimum spend, lower maximum discount, combined with the fact that countless sellers/retailers are selling their stock on eBay at almost permanently inflated prices. I'm really starting to go off eBay, especially now that Amazon AU has landed.
One of the most irritating 'features' eBay has introduced in recent times is the ability for sellers to combine multiple products into a single post, which makes for some EXTREMELY misleading prices in the search results - and don't these sellers know it/take advantage of it!

    • +4

Agree, eBay can do alot better regulating or changing this dodgy practice. They chose to do nothing.

  • The minimum spend and maximum discount makes this a poor deal, and for that reason I'm out

  • +8

Lol, its funny how people are complaining about min spend…. and max discount.
Reminds me of those spoilt 25 year olds who live with their parents, and complain about their parents not giving enough allowance.

IMO being given a discount is better than nothing. I dare you to buy a $150+ item and not use it because you think it isn't enough, I bet that 100% of you will use the discount code anyways, nobody here has the integrity to live by their words and to boycott using the coupon.

Its a bargain site here, you should judge the bargain by these 2 questions:
    1. Is this currently the cheapest price?
    2. Do i need it right now, or can I wait for another cheaper price?

    • +2

Thanks for being one of the few logical people here.

I see people post bottles of coke here from amazon that simply price matches supermarket sales (that occur pretty much monthly) all in the name of free shipping (assuming you pay for membership, what a ironic sentence really).
But fail to mention if must bulk buy in packs of 6. Forgoting the golden rule mum teaches when they were 5 years old that if you’re forced to bulk buy you deserve a discount.

Yet this gets tonnes of negs.

Ozbargain is becoming a place I depend on less for objectivity.

      • +3

Ozbargain is becoming a place I depend on less for objectivity.

        Too right.

It's a bargain. Maybe a crappy bargain compared to those in recent times, and one that I won't upvote, but still a bargain.

  • +1

Targeted, min spend increasing and max discount decreasing.
Appreciate OPs effort but this neg is to show my disappointment in eBay.

    • Not targeted, it could be because your account is stuck in another region because you utilised the region hax for usage of other country discount codes.

      • Actually I have got it, OP says it may not work for everyone. I haven't used my account anywhere else or did I create multiple accounts to utilise some deals.

  • Can someone help? I keep getting "We can't apply this code until you reach the minimum order total." I have $190 of items in cart, no shipping, and no excluded items or stores as far as I can tell. What am I doing wrong?

    • +1

Usually this means you have some excluded items, make sure the categories of your items aren't excluded. If you aren't sure then you would need to contact eBay.

      • +3

Yeah I've just found that one of them is in "lots more other items" and normally it's in a sensible category as I buy it often (pet food). Annoying, I'm not buying anything now.

  • Max discount is honestly kind of pathetic

  • +1

I saved almost $18 dollars today from things I've been wanting- thanks op

    • +3

i saved $150 not spending the minimum. crazy amount for 10% off

      • Hypothetically, I saved $infinity because I bought $zero in goods.

Realistically, I saved hundreds in recent weeks with PIXIES, AUSPLUSJAN15, PAPP10 because I would have bought those goods anyway, and Ebay kept sending vouchers just when I needed them. Often, I'd have stuff won on auction waiting an extra day just in case a voucher comes, and it did. Again.

Which is very rare cos this is January, first month of the quarter, and if you see the history eBay vouchers (there's a link somewhere here) hardly ever any in January after December sales. Vouchers come out end of quarters eg June, September, December

And now January, but only in Australia. EBay must be feeling the crunch.

  • $150 min is useless to me :) no deal and $15 off $150 spend is meh.

    • +6

Don't neg it just because you can't use it. Someone else buying some electronics like a smartphone will be able to get their $50.

Though I definitely agree that the conditions going up and maximum cashback going down makes these deals increasingly less and less attractive as time passes. Still not neg worthy if others can make use of it.

The sweet spot is obviously if you spend $500. I just bought a phone for $529 so I'm happy.

  • +1

JackBay is here to stay. High minimum spend. No deal.

eBay is kinda like Flybuys now. They're realising how much everyone is spending on there and they're increasing their minimum spend targets to boot. lol.

    • -1

It's called business. Google some basics.

      • It's called losing business. People, mostly, aren't stupid. You just end up shopping around.

        • You know nothing, Jon snow.

It's no different to the Flaming Moe's scene, from Simpsons.

  • Soon it will be $500 minimum spend, $5 max discount

  • +1

Strictly speaking, a deal a is a deal and I shouldn't be negging this. But come on eBay, step up your game. I haven't been upvoting since the minimum spend became 80, but this is becoming ridiculous.

It's like they're trying to see how much they can neuter the deal and still get free advertising on OzB.

  • min spend killed the deal for me.

  • Won an auction for a Galaxy S8. Paid $529, but paid with 10% off gift cards, so final price $479. Not too shabby.

    • Why didn't you use PIXIES?

  • An item I’ve been watching for a week just disappeared from my cart.

It was $169 and i was waiting for a 10% off to buy it.

Do sellers really rather keep the item and not sell for a difference of $17? ($8.5 if you count the long running 5% off coupon).

    • The seller will not get any less from a 10% site-wide deal. No reason to pull an item. Maybe it was genuinely sold in the meantime?

      • He had six of the same item.

They were all available last night and this afternoon they all got taken offline.

        • Open-shut case, then. No chance of another reason.

  • These deals represent no value now based on exclusions and price jacking. eBay needs to understand we aren’t happy with these deals.

    • Man, you're killing them! You tell 'em, little buddy.

  • +1

Found something 30% off used the code for extra 10% . BTW Ebay Plus gives double flybuys and buying through FFP another 1 % = extra 1.5 % .

    Amazon using 6% cash back = $594.88
Ebay using the above = $462.75
Overseas major trading spot = $586.11

    Hmmmmmmmmmmm POSITIVE :)

    • +1

Whatever the item is, you can post that as a deal since it has such a massive discount.

  • +1

Buy 3 items or more over $150 ( perfect for this deal ) = free postage . 420 toy items mostly 30 % off https://www.ebay.com.au/sme/nicolestoysgifts/Save-up-to-30/s…

Amazon lovers , prices are no where near . I love Amazon too when they have the better price :)

  • -2

Hardly any deals, price jacking. I have had enough really.

    • Site wide price jacking?
      Any examples?

  • I got this notice this morning from the app and was going to post it. I scrolled down the list and saw a Nintendo Switch for $451. That’s as far as I got at looking at it and the pricejacking just wasn’t worth going any further. These rampant sales have just caused people to lift their prices knowing that there will be another sale code every other week.

  • discounts keep getting worst

    • +1

So… Still discounts. Entitled or what

  • That's going the wrong with way

  • The minimum spend is climbing, the maximum discount is shrinking. No deal.

Can't speak for you guys but for me I use eBay for those nice to haves, not must haves. I'm happy to wait, no rush. If another retailer or site offers the item I want cheaper without having to spend, I'll just go there.

  • Thanks OP and ebay just picked up the xbox one x for 349 with this code.

  • Remind me why I subscribed to ebay plus again?

  • Limited to 1 transaction on top of all.

  • i saved $50, can't see what the issue is. better than not saving $50….

  • +1

Not a deal. When you factor in price jacking this ends up costing the same as a physical shop.

  • Trying to buy multiple car parts from one seller totaling $200 (less than 10 items). I get this error: This code can't be applied to some of your items. Previously I had multiple items I wanted to buy from different sellers in the cart (less than 10) totaling $500 but that didn't work either because I wasn't spending enough (one seller was more than $150 required but no idea how it works out the coupon for a larger cart).

This is a pretty average deal designed for big ticket items only like buying a new TV etc. Prices on ebay have been increasing like crazy. Checked my history with the same seller and August last year my oil filter was $19.95 and the same item is now $24.95

The 10% off deal like this seem to be bit of a diversion (poorly implemented with transaction limits) to hide the fact that they're getting more expensive.

    • nevermind - terms and condition say no car parts….

  • Trying to buy 11 LED downlights in 1 transaction for $153. Doesn't work. Now I noticed it says max of 10 items.
    Geezz ….

  • +2

The 10 item rule is a new condition to me, IIRC, before they had: Max transactions, Min spend, Max discount and limitations on categories and vendors, but never a max no of items in the cart.

Since this promotion started, if you have >10 items in your cart, checkout will not allow payment or application of a discount code. And it will respond: "Something went wrong. Please try to check out again. Error codes: 70245 70438"

And it gets worse, this happens to all purchasers, not just those wanting to apply a discount code. And it's been going on (at least) since this deal was announced, if not weeks longer.

Ouch. This is bad for customers, bad for eBay, but worse for vendors who will wonder why their sales have reduced. All customers with >10 items in their cart cannot pay no matter what they do, and many will give up rather than reach out to eBay support, and if they do, they will unlikely get a resolution.

It is actually pretty bad that eBay managed to live a promotion and cause a site-wide bug like this, but as I've speculated in the past, they seem to change checkout logic each time they release a new promotion. Worse, have a history of not testing checkout, or at least, testing it properly.

    1. It should not fail to the point that it halts a sale in the first place, certainly not due to there being too many items in the cart. After all, for eBay and its vendors, the more items in a cart, the better
    2. If a failure happens when applying a discount code, it should present the buyer a polite message, like 'you have too many items' to claim a full discount', and then allow the user to remove them from the cart and try again, or deselect the items they don't want to claim a discount on.

But no, when going live with this promotion, somehow they added logic to the checkout step that looked for the maximum number of items claimable with a discount code before the code was applied, and made all cart payments with >10 items fail.

Good work eBay, keep up the pressure on Amazon! Maybe this (poor site process, design and testing) is the reason eBay has been hit by Amazon so hard in the the US.

There are many negs on this post, for various reasons. I appreciate the 10 item limit is in the OP, but wonder if it should be negged due to the checkout being broken by anyone having >10 items being left on their own in a black-hole, unable to proceed to payment*?

    • FYI: eBay have officially acknowledged the bug, but it has been almost 2 days (or longer if it was introduced before the promo went live)
  • I assumed all car related things were excluded but certain things like car tools/accessories are not excluded. Bought this jack for example: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JIMY-TOOLS-SUPER-LOW-PROFILE-LON…

  • +1

You haven't seen price-jacking until you've shopped over at Amazon AU.

Amazon AU vs eBay for the exact same item. I've come across this sort of thing more times than I can count.

Neg Vote - Deal is not a deal. It's an insult - especially to paid ebayPlus members like myself.
Where are the ebayPlus only sales that were promised to be plentiful before I signed up btw? I digress..
Regardless, this needs neg-voting. As long as users like Tafe and such are whiteknighting ebay peddling these worsening deals, it will only get worse.
Ebay needs to see their user base is seeing these deals as a NEGATIVE not a POSITIVE.
