      • That is the reason I have kept mine.
It sucks that now I have a rejection in my credit score.

        • AFAIK there are no rejections on credit scores when you apply - only enquiries. I have an obscene history of applications, and still manage to get half the cards I apply for.

Maybe try the Bankwest (albeit not as great of a deal).

  • applied on saturday, got it approved on monday. no phone call
waiting for the card kit to come

  • Approval letter say Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature
Sent a message saying i applied for the Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card but haven't heard back from them yet.

i'm going to cancel if i'm not elegible for the 90k QFF points

    • Same here, I received an email about my pending application for a "Citi Rewards Signature Credit Card", not sure if I'm gonna get the QFF points either..

    • Same here but I called them and they confirm that I can supply with the Qantas number and agree to pay $49 then it will change to Qantas reward points instead of the normal reward program.
Now got both ANZ and this card approved at the same time, need to get my heads around how to spend $8,000 in 3 months. Any ideas, please feel free to share :) Thanks

  • Anyone know if Medibank Private's premium is a Cash Advance?

I've asked Medibank but they keep insisting it's up the Credit Card's policy. However, the Card's T&C places the onus on the merchant..

    • +1

      Not cash advance

  • Applied yesterday morning (28/5) approved today 29/5, no call. Now just waiting for the card to arrive and time to cancel the st George one.

    • Also applied on 28/5 but haven't heard anything back yet. I wonder what their criteria are for fast approval…

    • Same as me, approval next day with no call.

    • Card received today 4/6, now just trying to confirm it's linked to my qantas :)

  • +1

U r getting the standard Citi signature card with the option to join the Qantas rewards program for $49 per annum. The plastic card has no Qantas logo branding.

    • You have received the physical card with confirmation you are on the Qantas reward program?

So it says nothing with Qantas kn the actual card itself?

      • Please share where you are seeing a picture of the Citi credit carding with Qantas branding logo in the Op's link? I do hope you realise it's all in your head.

        • That's is exactly what I am wanting to find out from people who have recieved the card .

From experience, banks put on the logos….but Citibank could be different.

If logo is there, then its safer to say you are likely to be eligible for the points, rather than ringing to check that they did put you on the right program

          • @lovepub: Once again, it's all in your head. I've had cards from all 4 local banks + St George with bonus +75K QF rewards points if spend $x in 1st 3mths and none of their plastic cards have the Qantas logo branding.

  • so got the following reply when i asked about the card type and bonus QFF points

We advise that the newly opened Citi Signature credit card account is a
Qantas Rewards card since you are registered to the Citi Qantas Direct
    Earn Rewards Program.

Kindly note that the standard Citi Signature credit card account is
under the Citi Rewards Program that allows redemption for other flight
options (except Qantas), merchandise, gift cards etc.

While we confirm that you are eligible to receive 90,000 Qantas Frequent
Flyer (QFF) points if you meet the purchase requirement for this
    promotion.

For your reference, eligible transaction means any purchase excluding
(but not limited to) cash advances, balance transfers, special
promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travelers
cheque, transactions made in operating a business, bank fees and charges
such as interest and ATM charges and government related transactions.

Government related transactions include transactions with government or
semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in
connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions
made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office,
council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters,
fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

    • What! that's bull sh1T, so government transactions are excluded from being eligible transactions.

Council rates, motor registrations, tolls, even aus post…

      • i'm replying at the moment saying exactly that
        What a load of BS

        • Ytd I called Citibank and they confirmed that Bpay transaction counts toward the 4K spending requirement. So my understanding is that “Eligible transaction” only apply for earning ongoing Qantas points…

        • It sounds the same as the Virgin Velocity Flyer card (also run by Citi). The T&C are identical to the above and in addition the detailed T&C on the Virgin website state this:

"Please note that whether or not a transaction is an Eligible
Transaction will be determined based on information
provided either by the merchant or the relevant financial
institution (including information about the type of
business conducted by the merchant). This means that,
for example, spend with certain merchants may be
characterised as spend with a government related entity
and therefore not an Eligible Transaction, even if that
merchant is not in fact a government related entity."

Basically they decide and they won't define the criteria up front. I think this is probably illegal and wouldn't stand up if challenged.

I have worked around this by messaging them after every purchase to get them to confirm (in writing) if it is deemed "eligible" or not.

          • @gadgetguy:

I have worked around this by messaging them after every purchase to get them to confirm (in writing) if it is deemed "eligible" or not.

Isn't it already too late if you do this after you make the purchase? What can you do if they say it's not eligible?

            • @cynix: Yeah but at least you can be certain when you've met the required spend rather than just hoping.

If I had a large amount turned down for an arbitrary reason I'd go to the ombudsman.

    • Thanks for the insight mate. Where did you ask this btw?

  • Has anybody received any invitation code to enroll in the Priority Pass along with the Citibank Signature card ?

I went to the below website to register and got the below information.

    https://www.prioritypass.com/citibankaus

As a valued Citibank Signature Cardholder, you are eligible for a complimentary membership to Priority Pass. Once you enrol you will have access to more than 1200 participating airport lounges worldwide. Enrol today by simply entering the invitation code provided in your Citibank Signature Card Welcome Pack

    • it comes with the card and instruction to register the pass.

    • You don't need to enrol for the Priority Pass. It's automated. You will receive a letter in the mail in the coming months from Priority Pass containing your Priority Pass Membership Card. Activate it as per instructions and off you go.

    • anyone know if the passes stacks with the existing offer? (existing signature free for life)

      • Stacks? As in are existing Signature free for life customers eligible for the PP? That's pretty much why most of us here keep the card, with its terrible earn rate.

      • +1

Yes it does stack. You will get invitation code to enrol so you can use 2 separate username which what I have done so I simply have 2 priority pass accounts.

        • awesome, thanks mate. I do wonder if it can be merged into the same account

  • +1

Applied 21/5, approved 24/5. 30/5 received my card.

Actual card does not have Qantas logo or branding.

Paperwork says that you have been approved for a citibank signature credit card. To be safe I called them and the citibank rep confirmed that I will receive the 90k bonus points once I meet the minimum spend within 3 months.

The welcome package also came with a card with an invitation code to priority pass, I entered my details online and enrolled. Will get the physical card in 2 weeks time. Hope this helps.

    • I have received the card also and activated it. Then called to confirm that I got the right card. 4k spend in 3 months to get 90k QFF Points.
The card itself has no logo for qantas.
I have not been charged a fee yet, and I haven't looked to see if my QFF is linked. I don't k is how.

The app says it is a rewards signature card.

  • Applied 28/5, submitted documents 29/5, received a call and approved 30/5. Faster than expected! The Indian lady who called must have been looking at my credit report as she asked me to verify a financial institution that had recently performed a credit enquiry on me. I also contacted them separately via livechat and phone just to ensure that I'd be getting the right card with the bonus 90k points given the misleading title of the card in the application - I'm sure they're getting loads of questions about this.

  • Dodged the bullet on this one, the wait starts now! :)

  • Hey Guys,

Can someone provide me with some clarity because it feels like I can't get an answer from Citi bank?

I received an email from them today at 10:48 am requesting further supporting documents and before I even got a chance to send the documents I got another email at 11:00 am advising me the application has been declined?

Citi bank staff instructed me to raise a 'dispute' and email a review request to Citi group with the supporting documents attached and application REF#.

But is this weird? To be declined even before you provide the requested documents?

    Thx in advance.

    • +1

I recon just move on…ignore this bank.
Deal is good, but I doubt u will have any success with the outcome.
They must have declined you for some other reason, so even if u submit documents they want , they will still reject you

      Try bankwest or Anz

so a bit of an update from my previous comment (sorry not sure how to link back to my previous comment)

Got a call from CITI bank this morning apologising for the misinformation provided.

BPAY, Government charges etc are deemed eligible transaction and count towards the $4,000 spend.

The following items don't apply towards the $4,000 spend "Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, refunds, chargebacks, Special Promotions and spend on the Linked Diners Club Card do not contribute to the spend threshold."

    Hope this helps

    • You might want to get them to confirm with you in writing. I called and I got a very different response.

      • I did get it in writing

  • After umming and ahhing since the start of this post, following all the comments, I applied this morning at about 4am.
Have had two phone calls already, two different people (Indian overseas call centre I presume) as hard as it was to understand, it seems they were able to verify my income as being $53,000 more than I claimed.???
I stated 92k annual income on the application. They said they can verify it as being $145700, which amount would I like to proceed with?
I didn't know how to answer that, so went with the bigger figure….
I'd like to know when I got a 45k pay rise but!!!

    • I am curious if they have the ability and resources to see the applicants income which is submitted to the ATO??
      Isn't that confidential?

    • 92k after tax = 145k before tax???

      • 92 gross. Definitely gross amount before tax. No way I've earned any more.

Not sure about ATO, with a few small expenses, my taxable income is about 90k I guess.

    • Applied online at 4am this morning.
Two phone calls today about 11am.
Approved email and confirmation text arrived at 3pm.

Very surprising considering some of the comments above.

  • process has been very different & much smoother than most comments here. Applied, approved and card recevied within 8 days. No calls, just approved.

As mentioned already - all correspondence states 'Citibank Signature Rewards Visa'. No Qantas branding anywhere nor mention of QFF on any welcome packs. Verified it was QFF linked & eligible for 90k QFF point promotion via webchat.

    • Mine was same day….??

Less than 12 hrs from application, in early hours of morning.

      • Nice! super fast for you then, happy spending!

  • Application went rather smoothly.
Applied on weds night (29/5). Approved this afternoon (31/5) after one call for identity verification.

Called up customer service, and confirmed QFF promotion is applied.

  • Mine was bit slow. Multiple calls to verify my stuff. 16th applied…nothing yet.
Probably will come back as declined at the end…..all the waiting for nothing. Dont really hold high hopes now.

  • Applied on the 28th, got a call today to verify identity (presumably verifying me against information available in my credit file, such as previous address, recent credit enquiry etc), approved almost immediately after the call. The Citibank iOS app shows "Citi Signature Qantas Card" on the Rewards tab, so I assume the promo was applied correctly.

  • Applied on 15 May, approved 24 May, card arrived today. One call before approval to check if they could ring my employer to verify the payslip. Easy as, and in time to pay off upcoming tax bills.

No where in the emails or on the card does it state that the rewards program is Qantas-linked. But I looked at the rewards tab on the internet banking webpage and my QFF number is there. Quick ring to the Citiphone helpline and they confirmed that it is Qantas-linked.

    • Did the Rewards tab show your QFF number before or after you activated the card? I haven't received my card yet, but my Rewards tab is showing Citi Rewards and no QFF anywhere.

      • really weird but my browser version of the Citibank portal does not mention QFF on rewards at all but the mobile app does show it as Ctitibank Qantas Signature card.

either way, a call & webchat confirmation assured me that it was QFF linked and eligible for this current promotion

        • I called them and they said my card is currently on the Citi Rewards program, but I will still be eligible for the bonus points once I enrol in the Qantas rewards program, so I went ahead and did that. Fingers crossed.

  • Out of curiosity, has anyone applied on 15th or 16th and has NOT heard back yet from Citibank?

    • I applied on the 15th and nothing so far, honestly I hope they just drop the application, I don’t want the card anymore.

The lesson I learned from this deal and other CC deals is:

      1) Citi sucks as a bank
      2) Never apply with the masses, the financial provider is always overwhelmed with the amount of applications at once. Better to wait few days and apply.

      • Seems to be correct. Wait a few days and mine went through super quick.

    • I applied on 15th. Just got my approval today.

      • Called up today and asked on my application status. Was told I should receive a email update in 24 hours. Hopefully I hear something tomorrow morning.
So disappointing that it takes 3 weeks to approve a simple application.
A simple Yes or No depending on the criteria met or not. Stupid Citibank

        • Mine was left than 12 hrs. Applied early hours of the morning, and by 3pm that afternoon, it was approved and I had confirmation. Just waiting for the new card now.

  • Just called Citi.

You can apply for this card if you have cancelled or still hold an existing Citibank Platinum Credit Card.

  • +1

I have an existing Signature (no fee for life). Rarely used. Only keep it for the Priority Pass.

    Applied on the 26th
Got a called on 28th night, but didn't pickup and didn't bother reply.
Got a sms on 29th told my application has been approved.

Log into my Citibank account and see the newly CC is there.

Now wait for the physical card.

    • Still eligible for 90k qantas points?

      • The rep checked my application and confirmed it's eligible - also nothing in the Citibank T&C mentioned anything about must not held existing Signature card.

        • Yes, I confirmed with 2 of their reps as well. They confirmed as long as this is a new application (not new Citibank customer). We're eligible for bonus points.

          Waiting for approval now

    • please let me know if you have 4 x Priority Passes now?

      • Yes. Received the card & an invitation paper with code for 2 complimentary PP

      • Yes I can confirm. You simply have 2 Priority Pass accounts with different username when you signed up the second one.

  • Dump question, do I need to join Qantas FF by paying $99.50 and then apply for this card and pay additional $49 to link my account/card?

  • +1

Just had a chat to a representative about eligibility of the promotional 90k points.

I quoted this from the terms and conditions:
To earn 90,000 bonus Qantas Points, you must apply for a new Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card by 30 June 2019, then spend $4,000 on your Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card card within 90 days from approval. Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, refunds, chargebacks, Special Promotions and spend on the Linked Diners Club Card do not contribute to the spend threshold. The bonus Qantas Points will ordinarily be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account within 6 - 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria. All rewards are subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Citibank Rewards Program.

So originally I applied for the card on the basis that government transactions weren't excluded. However, the representative I spoke to said that it is excluded on the basis of the second bolded clause: All rewards are subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Citibank Rewards Program.

This is when this kicks in:
Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Points and government related transactions.

So I asked some simple questions - if I spend money on items such as council bills and car registrations, will I be contributing towards the $4000.00 spend to earn the 90,000 bonus Qantas points. I was advised I would not be contributing toward this.

I am considering taking this to the ombudsman as one would reasonably believe that all exclusions would be listed in the terms and conditions. However, the terms and conditions are then superseded by what's listed on a second set of terms and conditions. Quite shady practice.

    • Yep. That's a new one. That car rego won't be able to be used towards it.
      Disappointing

    • I wouldn't say shady. There are plenty of conditions linked to the program (inc. for earning normal points outside of any promotion) so it makes sense to link to a single place that lists exclusions rather than copy content on each promotion page, and then have to deal with inconsistencies. They even list a number of examples, which is good, because I didn't expect Australia Post to be excluded: apart from maybe postage, everything they do is overpriced enough that I thought it'd be qualifying.
My only concern in all that is "Special promotions" which is really subject to interpretation.

  • Citi bank seem cautious to confirm. Basically stating the terms and conditions… without answering my question.

Will my Tafe short courses fees be an eligible purchase/payment.

    • +2

They probably don't know, because they don't know what the transaction will look like. I would be willing to bet it will show up as a Govt charge and won't qualify for points earning, but probably do count towards the min spend (read upthread, min spend terms do not exclude Government)

The relevant terms are (and based on this I'd say 95% chance your TAFE transaction would meet this criteria:

Government related transactions include transactions with government or
semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in
connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions
made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office,
council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters,
fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

  • Applied on the evening of the 30th and approved today

  • I applied for this card yesterday (3rd June) and was declined, but was counter-offered with the Citi 'Platinum' - which is fine, I still accepted. I enquired about the application, and the rep said my application is being processed as the 'Signature'.

Has anyone been in my position and actually received the 'Signature' instead of the 'Platinum'?

  • Hrm, already received an estatement for this new card! Charged $49 for "QANTAS Direct Earn Rewards Fee". Geez, they are quick arent they!

    • If you log in to online banking via a browser, does the Rewards tab look like this? https://imgur.com/L4ZyO24

Mine still says Citi Rewards and I haven't been charged the $49 fee, even though online chat reps insist I'm correctly registered for Qantas Direct Earn.

      • Nope. I got this message

"You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Programme to earn and Redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points. If you are not a member, please visit www.qantas.com.au to sign up. A joining fee applies.

To view or update your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number, please click on the modify details button below to add your details. Once you have provided us with your Qantas membership details, we will automatically transfer the Qantas points earned from your Citibank Credit Card to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account within 2 business days after the close of each Statement cycle."

Click on the Modify Option, it's showing my Qantas FF number. So all good for me.

        • Thanks. Did you happen to check the Rewards tab before you activated your card, and if so, did it show the Qantas message? Just wondering if I should chase this up with them now, or wait for my card to arrive first.

          • @cynix: I activated then checked afterward - since I already verified with the rep the day before.

          • +1

@cynix: I checked before my card arrived and I activated it
            - the first time (a few days ago) it was totally blank and said something like I had no applicable products - even tho the Visa card was listed in my list of accounts
            - however this morning I checked again and got the same message as Tim above (i.e. with the Qantas bit and my FF number listed) (again before activating)

I've now received the card and activated

            • @Remorhaz: Thanks for the information. This is so weird, because their online chat reps insist that I should not be able to see my QFF details in the Rewards tab because that information is internal to their system. They also insist that I'm correctly registered for Qantas Direct Earn. One of these must be false… Any chance you could help me with a screenshot of your Rewards tab like the one I posted?

  • Applied 19th May, received call 24th may, approved via text 28th may , received card in mail 4th June.
Confirmed with webchat that i got the correct card and eligible for both deals:
"I can see you have applied for a Signature Qantas with 90,000 Qantas bonus points when spent $4,000 within 90 days of account opening. Applying for a Linked Diners Club card will entitle you an additional 10,000 bonus points when spent on it within 90 days of approval."

  • Applied 25th May, approved via text 5 June.

  • Finally got approval email and SMS.
Applied 16th. Phone call on 30th to check my detail and called my work too.
Then I called up twice but was told to wait 24-48 hours.

Almost gave up and going ahead with Qantas money application….then the SMS and email came through.

Didn't really mention anything about 90000 point….prob will wait for card to arrive and the ask.

Did everyone have to manually register online banking to get a username and password?
I dont remember doing any of that during sign up .

    • I didn't remember either.
Just picked username/pins when activating cards

      • how long did the card take to arrive after approval email they sent you??

got somehting to pay for $1500. wonder if i should wait for it to arrive.

        • 7 days (email 28th May, card received metro vic 4th June)

          • @cambam2: How big is the parcel? Is it sent by registered/express post or courier?

            • @cynix: haha…good one mate.
              it's a CARD. not a present!
i am guessing it's gonna be just a letter. probably dont even need a signature. postie will just drop it off in the letter box.
