Telstra 12-Month SIM Only Plan $65/Mth 60GB Data + $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card OR Several Handset Offers @ JB Hi-Fi (Port-in Offer)

Hi all,
Just ported in my number back into Telstra using this amazing offer from JB-HiFi.

Basically you get $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (with no expiry) when you sign on to JB Hi-Fi Telstra 12 Months Plan for $65/month which offers Unlimited Local calls and 60GB Data.

Update (20/06): As per latest reports from the comments, this has been revised to $300 Gift Card as of today i.e. $500 offer withdrawn a bit earlier.

For those who would rather buy a handset, there are several offers as listed below:
(I managed to have a quick glance at their internal email, so sharing the love)

Samsung Note 8 - $199 upfront
Oppo Find X 256GB - $199 upfront
Huawei Mate 20 - $199 upfront
Samsung S10e - $399 upfront
Samsung Note 9 128GB - $599 upfront
Google Pixel 3 64GB OR Huawei P30 - $199 upfront - Update (20/06)

From 13/06 to 16/06, instead of the $500 OR the Handset Offers already mentioned above, you can also choose to avail one of the following offers:
$0 Upfront: Hisense 43" 43R6 TV OR XBOX One X 1TB Console OR iPad 128GB 6th Gen (Wi-Fi model) - Update (16/06): This particular option is now extended to 19th June ans is also open to new customers

$49 Upfront: Apple Watch 42mm (Series 3)
$99 Upfront: iPhone 7 (32GB)
$799 Upfront: Oppo Reno 5G
Update (20/06): These options are now expired

All offers are for port-in customers only. [Having said that, I ported out of Telstra for couple of hours this morning and managed to port right back in using this offer without any issues - so worth a go!]

Note: From what I understand, this particular offer may not have any signage to promote it in the stores, so do try mentioning it to JB Hi-Fi staff in order to avail the offer. This offer expires on 23 June but if keen I would recommend getting it sooner than later (just in case it gets withdrawn earlier). Have a great day folks!

Edit: To answer a common query from comments - This Plan does not include Peace of Mind (POM) data OR $10 International Calling Pack

Edit 2: For those keen on scoring even higher bang for the bucks, for an extra $4/month you can easily upgrade this plan to Telstra’s $89 BYO plan (currently discounted to $69/month) via Online 24x7 chat, thereby giving you (hold your breath):

Extra 30GB data (total of 90GB data including Peace of Mind (POM) data)

Unlimited international talk & text to 15 selected countries (i.e. Bangladesh, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UK, USA and Vietnam)

International roaming - 2GB data roaming and unlimited talk & text in eligible countries (Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovak Rep, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, UK, USA, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vietnam)

If you do international travel and/or make overseas calls to the above destinations this is the BEST VALUE mobile plan ever (in my humble opinion) as you'll be effectively paying just $27.3/month for all of the above! Update (20/06): Gift card has now been reduced from $500 to $300.

You got all that from a quick glance? Your memory is better than mine :)

      Singh is king

      • +1

        You mean Kinng :)

Good movie - I have it.

    • +3

Haha, some side-effects of too much (oz)bargaining :)

      • +1

Thanks OP. Excellent deal, got one today.

  • +3

The Find X for $199 is bloody tempting.

    • +1

      Very tempting.
I'm unclear how to get to the $199 for the Oppo Find X.
      I see $999 on jb's website https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/op... .
Wouldn't this make it $499 after the $500 phone credit?

      • They actually subsidize phone prices if you use your gift card towards a phone

        • Which means we can get the phones listed for the prices mentioned and if lucky enough to get 20$ credit from Telstra chat by upgrading the plan to 65$ p/m to 49$ p/m that would be a good bargain

    • Does it have NFC? :)

      • Looks like it doesn't, which is a real shame!

  • So you get a $500 gift card (instead of needing to use it on a handset), but with 20gb less data?

    • +7

Yup you can use it on whatever you want and whenever you want (no expiry) plus it only 12 months of contract commitment. Heaps better than the 24 months offer. No-brainer!

      • +3

Nice. I'm a bit annoyed as I ported in this morning using the $45 deal with the $200 gift card. Wish the sales guy told me about this deal!

        • +2

Probably didnt even know about it.

          • +2

            @garetz: I'm pretty sure he didn't.

He knew all about Ozbargain, so I'm guessing he'll read this and will know about it now. Just wish JB advertised it properly, or at least informed their staff of these things properly.

        • +1

At least hit up Telstra chat and see if they'll bump you up to the 60gb for $49.

          • @whitelie: But you won't get the gc if you go directly with Telstra, would you?

            • +4

@BigLeviathan: The JB plan is a Telstra service. Sign up at JB, get the gift card, then hit up Telstra chat and say "I just ported in this morning but didn't realise there was a 60GB for $49 plan. Any chance I can change?" and see what they say. Could probably even sign up on this $65 deal and hit them up for a price drop as they're doing 60GB for $59 for existing customers. Scoring the $500 gift card and dropping to $49/month would be the best deal but might take some convincing.

              • +1

@whitelie: Lol, username checks out, thanks

              • @whitelie: Just had a chat with Telstra Cust. care, the guy said that $49/month/12 month deal is only valid if you are a new customer.Since after signing up with JB on their Telstra plan you become a customer meaning you can't go for the deal which is there for new customers.you can only go for the ones that are for existing customers. Now my question is, when do you become a Telstra customer? is that after signing up with JB or after porting your no. in Telstra? OR both these things are same?

                • @slackerman: I would get on the chat and try again. There's another post further down this thread that did exactly what I'm saying.
$500 GC from this $65/month plan, traded in for the Pixel 3a for $49 outright then spoke to Telstra chat and got the plan down to $49/month.

                  • @whitelie: So in essence, if telstra approves the downgrade you'll be paying
                    12 * $49 = $588

+ $49 for the new outright phone

                    Total spend: $637 ($53/month)

What if I'm not planning to get a new phone? Can I use the gc to pay for the monthly phone charge?

                  • @whitelie: How did they trade pixel3a for49$ outright as the price atjb is 649$ and with 500$ gc u get if for 149$ or am I misunderstanding 😅 help

                    • @vaska124: There is/was another deal where they give you $100 off the Pixel 3a when you trade in an old phone.

People were trading in cheap $20 phones from Coles/Target/Big W. Brings it down to $549 or $49 when you use the $500 GC from this offer. So I guess it's more like $69 outright if you need to buy a $20 phone.

                      • @whitelie: Is it still going on the 100$ deal or is it expired already?

                        • @vaska124: The $100 deal is still advertised on their website but it says it expired May 29th.

                        • @vaska124: No idea, ask JB.
The banner on the website says ends 29th May but the $350 off the Pixel 3 ends 11th June so check in store.

                • +1

                  @slackerman: its not the $49 deal that we're after .. its the $69 which has a $20 credit at the moment (i.e = $49). From $65 to $69 is an upgrade ;)

                  • @Cricket: Nah mate that $69 deal is not allowed for exisiting Telstra users and you become one once you signup with JB through their $65 plan. As an existing customer you can only upgrade to existing users’ $69 plan which is reduced to $59 at the moment.

                    • @slackerman: Na - I just got the $49/month deal. Effectively $588 -$500 = $88 over 12 months. Sweet.

Just try your luck a few time with online chat. Totally worth it. See Whitelie's advice a few posts down.

          • @whitelie: Not worth it without the extra $300 in gift card value. Might go to the store tomorrow and talk to the staff. See if there is anything they can do.

  • Do you know if this includes peace of mind data?

    • +1

      No unfortunately

    • +2

what's is peace of mind data?

      • +2

        Peace of Mind Data

With Peace of Mind Data, you won’t be charged if you go over your monthly data allowance. Instead, your speed will be capped at 1.5Mbps (which isn’t suitable for HD video or high speed applications, and means that some web pages, social media content and files may take longer to load), and slowed further during busy periods. The speeds you actually receive may vary depending on a range of factors including your device, location, user numbers and download sources.

Peace of Mind Data is for personal use in a smartphone or tablet in Australia only, isn’t shareable, and the FairPlay Policy applies.

  • Is there anyway to share data with another telstra sim?

    • Don't think so mate.

    • Only on legacy plans

      • What?! Have they removed future plans with share data?

I'm currently still on a share data plan and was thinking of getting this deal.

Also I clocked the link and it takes me to 24months instead of 12. :/

        • Yep removed from new plans. Sucks.

        • Yes you need to go to Optus or Vodafone to get data sharing now. Telstra would have a lot more money from me if they did allow it.

    • Can have on business plans. Surprisingly they are not much more expensive https://www.telstra.com.au/small-business/mobile-phones/mobi...

  • international calls?

    its on the top banner

  • Good deal OP bro

  • Reckon telstra chat will give us the $10 port in discount?

    • Yes

    • +6

Official stance is we have no knowledge this exists.

My fellow Ozbargainer stance is to give it a try ;)

I've tried on multiple occasions to get a confirmation on when/why exactly they do/don't do this every now and then, but am never given a proper reason. It's definitely something on Telstra's end, but they don't seem to want to tell us when they decide to run it.

      • I got the $69 plan down to $39 A month.
I got it on the $199 for s10 deal then changed in in telstra chat to the $49 click frenzy deal and requested yo keep my port in credit

        • What deal was that and how did it work out with the S10?

          Thinking about Note9/10 atm

          • @GLO: It was $65 per month JBHiFi deal for 12 months then you pay $199 to get the phone. I then changed to Telstra 12 months $49 deal and retained my $10 port in credit

            • +1

              @princess_nik_nak: @princesss_nik_nak
Thanks for your reply but I thought the S10is $399 and with a $100 trade in that is still $299.

Side question, do you get the 5G upgrade from Samsung when it launches?

        • I got a Huawei P30 for free from this deal

    • +1

I got it first go no push back. Said that the JB staff told me I was eligible for the discount, they checked with supervisor, and it was approved just like that.

      • +2

        noob question, is this a $10 discount or a $10/m discount ?

        • These are per month.

      • Did you do it after porting in at JB?

        • Yep, after

  • Is it phone credit or gift card?

    • Gift card, can be used to purchase anything sold by JB

  • +10

Can confirm the existence of all OP has posted, but I just want to point out:

"I managed to have a quick glance at their internal email"

    • Proceeds to list 5 different phones with the correct prices for all of them, not to mention the fact you've used the exact formatting and wording of the phone names in the internal memo (eg. Samsung Note 9 instead of Samsung Note 9 128 GB, and Oppo Find X 256GB instead of simply saying Oppo Find X without listing the storage like you did for the other 4 phones…). All this from memory, no less.

Call me cynical but I feel it's more believable you took a photo or wrote this all down or you just work at JB/know someone that does vs. you having a near-eidetic memory to remember all that from a quick glance…

Regardless, this is a good deal for people after those phones, but of course the BYO with the $500 GC will probably be the more attractive option as it is a GC that can be used on anything, rather than being only a phone credit that can only be applied to an outright purchase (which is what it used to be for the 24m plan).

    • +1

Haha, a simple mind hack mate - see what's for cheapest (i.e. $199 in this case) and club them together, then proceed to remaining one. I would have loved being called a wizard but unfortunately there wasn't any rocket science here :P :)

      • +6

Fair play if that's actually the case, I do still find it odd how you listed the names of the phone exactly as they were in the memo.

But regardless, I can't complain about some free publicity. I'm sure this will bring in some new customers who would not have come in had they not seen this.

        • Only Find X had the storage written in front so didn't knew storage of others, but I'll update the post now that you have provided more details. Thanks for your comment and happy selling!

        • +7

Looks like you don't know the way Indian schools operate!

    • +3

Before the internet and everyone having a phone, this skill wasnt that rare. It's just called having an average memory. It doesnt require eidetic memory.

    • +2

Any idea on how much to pay for a P30?

  • +2

Is it possible to get the additional $20 off per month as shown here bringing it down to $45?

    • Good question, I would also like to know. The current Telstra deal for $49 gives you 60GB for 12 months plus international calls and texts to 15 countries and peace of mind data so technically a better deal in terms of inclusions and price. Obviously no $500 gift card though

      • +1

Apparently no you can’t switch over to $49/month plan because once you sign up JBs $65 plan you would become a Telstra consumer and the Telstra 49 deal is valid only for new customers.Existing customers have to be on the plan they alredy are or can switch to the ones that are for existing customers.

        • True
If Shekster (rep) could confirm/deny this I would appreciate it.

        • Not always true. I just got downgraded to $49 plan (well technically upgraded to $69 plan with $20/month discount). Worth Trying your luck with the online chat.

          • @WTF: What steps did you take to achieve this?

      • If I get the time ill give Jb a call and see if they will do anything about it if I remember ill report back here.
At this stage, I would rather have peace of mind data.

    • No, it’s only off that Telstra BYO plan not the jbhifi plan as they are seperate plans with seperate offers.

    • -3

dont u think it stupid if they give u a $588 plan with $500 off = $88 plan? do u think telstra managers are idiots?

      • Lol. I just got the $49 plan. And yes its $7.33 per month.

  • Can you put this sim in a Telstra 4gx wifi pro and run your home wifi from it?

    • Definitely, if that's what you want to do.

  • Hi, i ported out of telstra about a week ago to voda prepaid. Went instore to re-sign up to $45 deal and the guy called someone maybe telstra?? to do this but they advised i can’t do this as i have been with voda for 1 week and need to wait 30days. How have people managed to port out and in all in one day?? Any tricks that anyone can pass along?

    • they lied to you.

      • +1

Ive gone to two stores and both have said the same thing…must be going to the wrong stores then

        • Can anyone tell me where this has been done in a store in sydney please?

          • @Trebenista: Maybe just check if the number still appears upon logging-in to your old Telstra 'My account' and is still in their books history. If so, ask Telstra chat to disconnect it from your Telstra account (Not 100% sure if that'll help though).

            • @singhdeals: Will check now.thanks for the advice

              • +1

@Trebenista: Please update us. I'm thinking of doing the same but am worried I won't be able to port back in
