                  • @wakie: Bloody sims should be free not at cost greedy buggers if you ask me $2 is $2 they want customer then give sim cards free. That's for all networks.

                    • @bwatt72: Boost could probably mail you one out, but Coles wouldn't give them out for free as they're in the business of making money.

  • +1

Got this plan on the last deal and I've been very happy with it. Coming from ALDI (Telstra wholesale) the coverage has been basically the same, but the speed and responsiveness has been noticeably faster. I've got to be more careful with my data having gone from 14Gb to ~6Gb a month, but the network experience has been just fine.

    • I’m finishing up with Kogan this month and tossing up between Aldi and Boost. Which plan were you on with Aldi for 14Gb?

I’m in the same boat - only use around 15 or so each month so trying to toss up whether I can drop down with the Boost plan.

      • I was on the $25 plan with 14Gb, it got upgraded to 18Gb around the time I left.

The way I thought about it… After 6 months on the ALDI plan I'd be spending $150 anyway. So even if I use up the full 80Gb allocation on Boost in 7 months I've still come out ahead. Can then reevaluate at that time if I want to stick with Boost or try someone else.

  • after an hour on hold and two promised escalations they say sorry there was no escalation. Keeps getting more awesome by the minute

  • Can anyone say how soon after a port request is there the confirmation code sent?

Would it be enough to make the port request with 24 hours left on your existing plan?

    • +1

If you are porting out from vodafone or vodafone mvno then you will need a code. The code comes instantly so 24 hours is more than enough for the code. As for the port, it may take 1 hour or few days as per above thread if it gets stuck.

      • Thanks, reckon I'll port with a day to spare and punt on a clean transfer from Kogan.

  • +3

Just ported from Kogan to Boost. All done in 1 hour, no problems.

    • Just wondering did you do that through online or call customer service for signing up? Which is better?

  • I assume that Coles gift card can't be used to buy these.. is that right?

    • I used gift cards when I bought my voucher a couple of months ago…

      • Im looking to buy two of these vouchers myself and wife and buying discount cokes vouchers would be cool,i thought like woolworths you maybe cant use gift csrds towards this? Last thing i want is to be stuck with coles gift cards i really have no use for apart from this. I don't shop at coles and dont want to be stuck with gift cards jusr want the boost vouchers and obviously save a little by using gift cards.

  • +1

Hooray finally ported from vodafone to Boost after almost 3 weeks. Suspect it was me engaging the TIO yesterday. They said they had already sent e-mail to boost about the matter.

  • What is the best way to port from Aldi to this? Buy a third party provider Sim card $2 then port again out back to Boost or just off the shelf?

    • Off the shelf is fine for Aldi.

      • Thanks so I assume there's no delay just port as normal

  • If I'm interested in the $300 for 240gb plan instead, can I purchase 2 sets of these $150 vouchers for $270 and still get the plan?

    • -1

You mean get 240Gb? No you can't.

      • +1

        Why can't you buy 2 x $150 vouchers and activate $300 plan?

        • That's a really good idea if it were possible.

Can you activate a plan by entering two voucher codes?

    • +2

Yes, Boost support can stack the two codes on the one account for you.

      • No way!! Thanks so much. I'll call them today

      • I just called them and they said I can't stack the 2 codes together. :*(

        • Really? They did it the last time this promo was on. It might be a case of asking different reps to get the answer you want - a bit like Telstra support.

          • @wakie: I just called again and they said the same thing to me about not stacking 2 codes together. I guess you either got lucky or they recently changed their policy. I can't take the risk of buying 2 vouchers

            • @pizzacracker: That's weird. They must have changed their policy as a lot of people did it the last time. You're still buying $300 worth of credit so I wonder what their issue is with it.

              • @wakie: So true, but I guess it is what it is. Thanks though :*(

  • +1

Thanks OP. Looking at getting the parents onto Boost since they're both out of contract with Vodafone and don't use much data

Is it better to activate a temp new number on Boost and then port over ?

Or would it be better to enter porting details directly while activating the Boost sim?

Just wondering if one way is better, perhaps faster than the other. Thanks guys

    • Port while activating is the correct approach.

  • Does anyone know what Voicemail options are offered? I currently receive Voicemails as audio files via MMS and it's a feature I love having - a quick google search offered mixed results, so I thought I'd ask here.

    • Who are you with currently?

      • Bendigo Bank Telco. I can't seem to find the plan I'm on ($14.50 a month but only 2gb data), so they may have changed their plan pricing. Didn't even know the voicemail thing isn't a normal feature until I inquired about switching over to Boost.

  • What happens if you run out of data? can you add extra?

    • had brain wave and asked on their chat and reply was "You can purchase extra data. You can purchase $5 for 1GB or $15 for 3GB" wow thats expensive. you be better off going to another company and then porting back with new offer like this.

      • +2

You just buy another recharge when you run out. No need to port out/back in.

  • If I run out of data, will volte and vowifi still work?

  • +2

I have bought it and there were plenty (more then 50 i think) of $2 sim card available in Roxburgh Park. I gave $2 sim card to the lady over the counter, asked her for $150 voucher and price came to $135. The expiry on the voucher is 17/01/2021

    • So where are the boost sim cards located behind counter? Or can i grab it somewhere and just hand it to lady and ask for voucher also? I thought it was said you do this at self checkout to get the free sim?

      • In this store sims were at different place, i went to the aile and got the sim to the counter, handed it over to the lady and asked her for a $150 voucher. Total came to $135 (including $2 sim card) so sim is free.

        • This is correct for West End in Brisbane. At front of the store they have a rack with all specially marked $2 SIM plus $150 recharge voucher priced at $135. Confirmed cannot use Coles gift card for payment. About 10 in store when I went this evening. Very helpful Coles staff luckily 👍

  • I am at Bayswater VIC Coles now, no stock at all!

  • Anyone check out the southern Cross Coles? Do they have stock?

    • They might run out of SIM cards but I am sure they are vouchers out of the self service check outs.

    • I asked at Coles Southern Cross and the staff had no idea what I was talking about. I even mentioned it was in their catalogue.

  • +1

    Not applicable at Coles Centrals

  • I am currently on this and I am very pleased with the value I am getting.

Because it's 80gb spread out over 12 months, I don't have to worry about not maximising my data cap for the month when I'm away overseas.

    Highly recommend!

Reception is OK but could be better - in Doncaster East area sometimes I only get 1 bar on my iPhone X. Anyone else having so-so reception?

    • Maybe it is the problem with the iphone which use intel baseband chip.

  • Thanks TA. Got one this morning. Grab a $2 SIM and at the counter or self checkout buy the $150 80GB plan recharge. Total bill comes to $135!
    Coles - Caulfield station

    • Hi, I've tried asking at the counter at my local Coles but no luck. Can you just bring a $2 SIM card to the self checkout and select $150 plan? If you scan $2 voucher, does it give you selection? The girl at my local Coles tried her machine but no such thing.

  • Major issues with retailer

I bought the previous Boost card from BigW and tried to port my number over.

It has been over 2 weeks and numerous phone calls and chats with customer service later it still has not been ported. I have been informed that Boost has a huge backlog of porting requests and I after 2 weeks with no reception I was finally advised to purchase a 1 month plan with my previous provider.

I asked whether the porting would be completed by the time the 1 month contract was up, and Boost said that it was not guaranteed.

Worse still they blamed the delay on me for not requesting to port my number initially. This is not true, but the customer service refused to listen and just said that their notes say that I did not request to port my number. Customer service also refused to go over all the notes from my previous chats because it would take too long.

I would think twice before using Boost.

    • Same happened to me in which the Boost $2 SIM was faulty and Boost rep blamed my phone instead.

    • yes 13 working days so far and three escalations through Helstra. Chat can do nothing, customer service nothing - Helstra porting can only escalate to "IT" whoever the "IT" is off in the cloud somewhere.

    • They send a SMS to your existing number with a verification code. Once completed, it should be ported at least the next day in my experience.

      • I had the same problem, did the verification more than once (it confirms it was already done). It just would not activate. Boost said telstra were having ongoing issues processing porting. I gave up after a week and tried porting to Optus with an old no value sim i had sitting around, went straight through.

  • i'm not familiar with how prepaids work. If i get one for one of my kids, is it $135 for 80gb Unlimited Talk & Text for the 12 months? like, is that all i would have to pay?

    • +1

Yep, it's $135 for 12 months (80GB). If you use up all the inclusions before the 12 months, you'd need to recharge the card.

      • why am i paying $40 a month then!?

        • Assuming you're on the Optus $40 80GB plan (that I am also on), you get 80GB each month, this is a one-off 80GB that is valid for 12 months or until you recharge.

          Definitely won't work for me.

          • @giventofly: pretty sure i am never even close to using 80gb a month :( it was just the cheapest plan i could get

        • Why indeed?

      • why am i paying $40 a month then?!

        oops

        • That's a good question. I was paying $167 for 2 services to Telstra up until I knew about Boost. Now its less than $15 a month.

  • Nice! Just out of interest - how long has Boost added unlimited international to the $20 plan - I thought it only kicked in for the $30 plan - it's also available for the 7 day plan ($10) which would be awesome if you're a traveller from one of those countries https://boost.com.au/plans/#7day-Expiry

    • Do you have any idea about international roaming charges/packs?

  • Does this really sell out quickly you would think there be plenty of this deal around being a voucher, if not do we get rain check?

Does the sim go out of stock quick and i believe if purchased with voucher is $135,what if there is no sim when buying voucher do i still get a free sim or should i buy from another coles?

Can you confirm that getting discount gift cards at coles works on this deal?i thought such thing never worked, woolworths put a stop to buying gift cards for gift cards so not sure about this. Just dont want to be stuck with coles gift cards, but savings buying and using towards this will be nice.

Im already a boost customer from few years back as and i just pay them each month when i like which is on an old tariff. i have never upgraded the plan on that yet. So i only need the voucher no sim?

Wife is in amaysim so obviously needs both sim and voucher. Can someone remind me the steps taken to port her number from amaysim to boost, what do we do online porting just need the steps after buying a voucher and sim what we do. I take dont recharge or enter sim on phone yet??

Do you get this deal over the counter or self checkout and is sim over the counter or available elsewhere in store.

    • The $2 sims generally sell out quickly with these deals but you would only be $2 worse off as you can still get the recharge voucher on its own for $135 and I don't think they run out of those. The $2 sim can then be purchased separately from other stores (Woollies, AusPost etc…) or directly from Boost online. If you're already with Boost then no need to get another sim.

Not sure about discount e-gift card but last time I purchased using a physical gift card just fine.

      • So you can use gift cards with this deal, how long ago was that? Would not matter if egift card or phyical they are both a gift card though. Was this at self checkout or at manned checkout you used?

        • +1

It was around April this year through a manned checkout.

          • @xers: I bought this Boost $2 sim and $150 recharge voucher yesterday at Coles Miranda. Plenty of sims on shelf with all the other telco sims but was on the bottom shelf so a bit hard to see straight away. Anyway paid with discount Coles egift cards purchased through Suncorp. No issues at all. I was at an assisted check out as all the self serve ones were still closed early in the morning.

  • It says 1 per customer so i can't buy one for wife and myself at same time or are they flexible?

    • Unusually shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, take your wife along, or buy in 2 transactions.

    • I bought 2 in 2 consecutive transactions this evening. No problems. No gift card accepted as payment though.

  • I just got the voucher and the SIM.

I'm trying to activate the SIM, but the website keeps saying the SIM number is invalid or has already been activated? I literally just opened the SIM package.

    ANyone else have this problem?

    • Call boost customer support. The activation website has been broken for months.

      • +3

AH ok. A few months? lol what kind of company leaves a broken website up for a few months haha.

Thanks, I'll give them a call.

        • I know for a fact it been more then a month. I had same problem with you last month

      • I just activated my SIM last night through the website. So it’s working for me

    • same happened to me, I was in the coles when i call the customer service and on the call she said i need to buy another $2 sim. I gave her the sim number and she transferred all the balance to new sim card

      • you had to BUY another sim? or were you given a replacement SIM for free?

        • I had to buy another sim and i paid $2, i tried to discuss it with the store manager which was very rude and she clearly said this is third party product and Coles is not resposible for the sim and voucher lol i called the Boost customer service (which was Telstra) and the lady over the phone helped me in fixing the issue

          • @randomrandom: how did she fix the issue? I'm talking to Boost via Lilve CHat now, and they say Coles will give me a new one for free.

            • @drose1: no Coles will not give you anything now, Boost customer lady said same to me but the manager in the coles rejected to help me. I handed over the phone to Coles manager to talk to Boost customer service directly but Coles manager rejected her as well. Ask her to transfer the balance in the new sim and activate it, this is what Boost customer service did to fix the issue

              • @randomrandom: Ugh. what a joke. thanks for the info.

                • @drose1: yap its normal, Boost customer service is really helpful. They will fix it up but do not rely on Coles they are not going to help you in any way

                  • @randomrandom: Look, $2 is nothing, but the principle and OzBargainer in me will not allow it. This shouldn't be a cost for us.

                    • @drose1: i agree but what to do when you only have one option to choose? sometime we have to spend a little to save the rest. lol

  • +1

got this for 150 last month still worth good deal

  • This is off topic from the activation issues.

Has anyone been able to use the free Apple Music subscription that Boost offers?

I've been with Boost for just over a month with no luck in activating it. Any advice would be appreciated.

    • +1

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think boost offers data free Apple Music. Meaning streaming doesn’t take data off your allowance not a free membership.

    • +1

Agreed it is only supposed to be the data used for streaming that is free. You would still need to subscribe to Apple Music for a fee. Not sure if anyone has tested to confirm the data streaming is actually free.

      • Thanks for the clarification, I have been scratching my head over this for a while.

  • 2.5 weeks so far, 4 hours on hold to porting and three escalations starting from day 1. Just wait another 48-72 hours

    • That's unlucky. I bought and activated mine today. Ported and ready to use in under 30 mins. The only hiccup i had was an invalid SIM intially. but once i replaced it, it was good to go.

      • yes many hundreds are unlucky - one guy a month

  • Must be a noop question, but the staff at my local Coles said they don't have such thing like $150 voucher. They had only $2 SIM card and some of 28 days and 6 months on the shelf but not 12 months SIM card. I saw a comment here, picked up $2 SIM card and asked them to scan $150 voucher but they said no such thing. Has anyone spotted the SIM pack in Sutherland area?

    • +2

try them asking Boost $150 80gb prepaid reacharge voucher, this is strange.

    • +2

There is no $150 sim pack. You get the $2 sim and the $150 voucher is printed on your receipt
