    • Yes it is.

  • Do you need to activate sim immidiately?

    • +1

No. The SIM has a very long expiry date, printed on the prepaid pack. The one I got from Coles last time expires in Oct 2020.

  • Does this deal works for both existing customer and new one?

    • Yes, will work for new and old.

  • Potentially dumb question, but if I don't care about the $2 SIM, can I just get this through the menu on the self serve checkout like you would any other phone recharge?

    • +4

      Yes you can do.

      • Cheers 🙂

  • Pretty good deal but 80GB data over 12 months is hard to ration, in my opinion (especially with Kayo)

    • Watch NRL, afl, netball through telstra/boost and its free data. Then use kayo for other sports that aren't free through telstra like rugby.

Unless you cast it to a TV off course.

  • Oh man, I just recharged $150 last week :'(

But it took a week for Boost customer service to let me port my number on phone. It took me an hour to get number transfered from Telstra to new sim after I called them for last time.

If anyone who wants grab this deal, I would suggest porting your number ASAP before their porting servers breaks down again.

  • My contract with Optus expires next month, do I have to inform them that I plan on switching or can i just activate my Boost and port the number across without mentioning it to Optus?

    • +1

You can port over when you're ready and Boost/Telstra handles the backend porting…

    • i ported from optus yesterday and didn't have to involve optus at any stage.

  • I have never ported my mobile number before.

Can someone confirm the process of getting my optus prepaid number to boost?

Do I buy the $135 Boost recharge on the 25sept, call Boost (what number?) port my optus number and then wait, then recharge using the code?

Does the pack come with a sim card or do I have to buy a seperate sim card?

    Thanks

    • +1

Can do it all online, it's all explained in the sim pack (multi-fit sim supplied) and is a very simple process.

    • I have done this online few days ago porting from Kogan, I think after you fill in the SIM card serial no, you will be asked if you want a new number or keep your existing number. click keep my existing number to bring your number to boost.

      • Thanks, can I use my current optus sim or do i need to buy a new sim card?

        • this is buying a new SIM from Coles

  • When you port your number when does the 365 day start? when you activate the SIM for porting or the day they actually activate the ported number.

And I just wanted to clarify if we run out of data in say, nine months and need to add another recharge for data only the data is not valid for 365days? It would only be valid for 30?

    Thanks ozbargainers in advance.

    • 365 starts when you add the credit to your account.

Data is not sold separately. You'd need to select a new plan and start the clock again.

  • I presume this can be used as top up credit too yes? If yes, when is the latest date you need to use the voucher?

    • +1

15 months from issue for Recharge vouchers bought from Woolies, I expect the same from coles.

  • could we renew before expired?
Could we use agl coles discounted gift card to purchase this?

  • +1

My current Kogan plan wont expire until November, can I buy this & activate in Nov then? Thanks in advance!

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

I Purchased $135 from coles couple months ago and activate few days ago. The sim card and the vourcher code has quite long expired period (at least 6+ months), can't remember exactly though.

  • +1

I needed to escalate a few times porting from vodafone to boost. First line customer service had no idea and gave scripted responses. You need to escalate to porting team at telstra to manage it. In my case it failed twice to port… first they said DOB was wrong but on checking it was correct and 2nd time was voda account number. But when port support checked they found special characters at end of phone number field. Probably from cut and paste. Ported quickly after the fix.

  • Is there any prioritisation involved for the vendors using Telstra networks?

If im travelling to a rural area, i will get the same coverage as i would on a Telstra sim as compared to Boost right?

    • +2

I fly into various remote WA mine sites and reception has not changed since I have switched over to Boost in August.

  • When porting from Belong to Boost… do I need to go thru the 'Telstra' method?

    • Nope. Can buy an off the shelf SIM.

  • +1

When buying from Coles, does it come with the Boost sim too? Or will I need to purchase that separately?

    • Yes it will from this Coles deal starting Wednesday, unless out of stock ( even then you should get a rain check for that/back order ).

    • You buy a $2 SIM in the same transaction as the prepaid voucher (in the self checkout item lookup) and it comes to $135 for the lot…

      • Ah i see. thanks for clarifying.

      • What do you mean? Are these vouchers not supposed to be done manually by a person? How does one get sim and voucher for $135 thought the sim was $2 extra.

  • Anyone porting from Telstra to Boost? and how long does it take? thanks

    • Took me a couple of days from Telstra to Boost. Boost customer service we’re fantastic; Telstra customer service the usual incompetence. Otherwise it would have been less than a day.

      • did you have to talk to both Teltra and Boost? or its all online porting process?

        • You will need a blank sim from Boost before the port. Once you have the blank sim it took me less than half an hour for the transition from Telstra to Boost. If you are with Telstra prepaid on auto direct debit make sure you ring Telstra billing to cancel that auto debit function. They have been charging me after I have switched over to Boost for 2 months.

          • @he88388: So you can't just port directly from Telstra postpaid over to Boost prepaid sim from the pack?
How do you request the blank sim and how long does it take to get the blank sim?

            • @Ninja9: You have to ring Boost directly for a blank sim. It only took a few days for the blank sim to arrive.

              • @he88388: Is it easier to buy the $2 sim in store or call boost and they charge you via cc? What's their number for ordering sims? Thanks.

                • @MelBorn: If you are currently with Telstra, you have to get Boost to send you a (free) sim. You can’t use the free one you get with the Boost pack. Don’t ask me why. The process:
                  1. Phone Boost to send you a sim
                  2. Then phone Telstra to tell them you are switching to Boost and they will cancel your current plan; they tell you this can take 24 hours, and that they will text you when it’s done (they never text me - plus some other usual Telstra incompetence occurred meaning I had to contact Telstra again)
                  3. Once Telstra do their bit, you phone Boost to say Telstra have done their end, and Boost will set up (port) your phone number with a Boost account
                  4. You then go to Boost online and fill out your details, including the Boost pack code #.
                  5. Within hours (less than an hour for me) it’s all done.

Note that once Telstra cancel your plan you will have no data (only phone calls) until your Boost account is up and running.

          • @he88388: What's this about a blank sim? Wife is amysim do i need a blank sim tbought she might need a standard boost sim.

      • Sill waiting AS ARE MANY HUNDREDS OF OTHERS

  • +1

This porting issue isn't good enough. Even if it's only 1% of customers. If mistakes can happen then the porting process is either too confusing or not good enough.

Since myGov forces me to use a mobile number for verification I may as well be able to control porting myself via the same interface. Thinking about government website reliability I take that back…

    • +1

There’s an app called myGov access that lets you logon to myGov without having to receive the 2fa password through sms. It generates the 2fa password on your phone. Found it super useful when I was travelling.

  • Is this 80GB Data per month or 80GB Total in 12 Months?

  • What's the go if you run out of data in the 12 month period. Can you purchase a new block?

    • +1

Yes - if you run out before the 365 days, you can buy add on data blocks, 3GB for $15 (expires in 28 days) - check the 'add ons' section on the plan pages – or you can just buy another recharge that will start from when you activate it.

  • Took me around 40 minutes to successfully port from Vodafone postpaid to Boost. Happy to be on Telstra network now.

  • I migrated from Kogan today. It took about 1 hour.

  • Will this work if it is put into one of those sim wifi dongles? And just use the 80gb data?
Asking for someone who may be interested (not me.)
    Cheers.

    • +2

Yes of course. As long as the modem has the Telstra frequencies anyway. Why anyone would want to pay $11.25 per month for only 6.67GB per month, when you can pay $4.90 per 30 days for 40GB instead, is is another story: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/453211

      • Thanks, that’s a good option.

      • But the $4.90 is for one single month, right?

  • Firstly, What if I have a 6 months plan for Telstra itself and then I buy this Boost deal now and activate it post Tesltra's plan expires?
Lastly, Would it be possible to port from Telstra to Boost given Boost uses Tesltra?

  • +1

Worth it for this feature alone.

    https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/telstravoltegooglespeaker

Making outgoing calls with your google home.

    • Never seen that before, pretty cool might try it out thanks.

    • I take this works with boost here also or just telstra?

  • I wonder this is the same start pack as Big W. They had a lot of shortage last time.

On the last Coles sale there was instruction to scan a $2 sim card and select the $150 Boost Voucher.

It doesn't appear to be on this cataloged but it does state recharge.

    • But it does say “Bonus $2 SIM”…

  • When you port your number when does the 365 day start? when you activate the SIM for porting or the day they actually activate the ported number.

    • when you recharge

      • Not sure what you mean don't I activate the recharge in the process of porting, I'll be moving a prepaid Vodafone SIM phone number to boost when I purchase this deal isn't the recharge automatic when I activate this sim that will come with the pack

        • You recharge after porting

  • Can I buy this now and activate it after my current contract expires which is 1 year later from now?

    • The voucher from Woolworths gave an expiry of 15 months.
I'd expect the same from Coles, but best to double check

  • Neither Optus or Vodafone work once I go inside my local supermarket. So any barcodes on the phone, flybuys, etc. - none of it will display. Even if I put it up on the phone before going inside, when I wake the phone up, it often tries to refresh and so what I had on the screen is lost.

Does the data on this SIM (generally) work inside (most) supermarkets?

Edit: Or to put it another way… Who has the closest coverage to 'real' Telstra - Boost, Belong, or Aldi?

    • Take a screenshot of your barcodes

      • LOL, yeah - I'll have to.

        • It may be the problem with the building rather than the operator. In my local shopping centre, no one get mobile reception on one side of the building on the basement level. Not even if you have Telstra. The other side is fine.

    • Boost coverage is ‘real’ Telstra

    • I get poor to no reception with Boost in my local Coles, but they have free wifi (not sure if this applies for all Coles).

      • It must be most of them because mine is a small town and it now has it. Be nice if it actually worked though… I was trying to display that 1000-points barcode posted here a few days ago, using their wifi. I'd click the 'Free Coles Wifi' showing in the phone's wifi connections, it immediately showed: 'connected', but I couldn't browse and after a while the phone said I 'needed to enter username and password to access that network', but no login screen ever appeared to enter or click on anything.

        • Android or iOS? Either way there is just a T&C screen to accept, via a settings icon next to the network name I think. No p/w required.

          • @madak: Android. Thanks. I'll look for what you describe next time I'm there. I think there was some kind of small icon showing actually, but it's image wouldn't load - and I forget now happened when I clicked it, but not much obviously. ;-D

  • Is this the $150 SIM pack or $2 SIM and a print out recharge voucher?

    • +1

Based on the description, it seems to be a $150 recharge (voucher) + bonus $2 (no value) SIM card.

      • I believe as a boost customer from few years back my sim is all good i just need the recharge and use when required.

  • Can Coles giftcards/flybuys dollars be used to purchase telco topups?

    • Yes, I've bought this with a Coles GC before

      • How long ago i asked the same question on here if this could be purchased with coles gift card don't think i got a reply, but dont woolworths not stop you from doing such thing? I know its not woolworths but last thing i want is to buy coles gift cards and cant use and stuck with them. As i dont shop with coles and really need to money for the boost deal not coles shopping.but be nice to save a little extra if i can. Is there a method of doing/using this at coles?

        • I bought this with a Coles GC before as well. You can purchase it from the self serve checkout.

          • @ihgjuk: So gift cards work at self checkout but not the other? So as you want a boost voucher how does this work at self checkout can it be found on self checkout easy and what if you need sim are these like gift cards available around the store. I take with self checkout the voucher comes activated.

            • @bwatt72: You can order and pay for Boost with a GC at their self checkout or served checkout.

              • @wakie: Ok thanks im about to buy gift cards and just wanted to make sure,so there is no chance of this voucher deal being out of stock but possibly sim. Judt dont want to be stuck with gift cards thats all.

                • @bwatt72: Cool, it worked for me the last time this promo was on some months ago. Voucher is electronic but they could likely raincheck the sim if it's out of stock. Worst case is you buy the $2 sim some place else.
