@PukeyLuke: The guy I spoke on the phone to? You want me to post my incident number for you when I get home?
Better yet, give them a call yourself. Enjoy the 45 minute wait!

                  • @sw00p: @sw00p So, some guy told you, interesting!!
The truth of the matter is that as annoying as it is for you there is no disastrous SIM porting/activation breakdown going on within Telstra/Boost at the moment. A small fraction of people have now and in the past had issues with porting/activation. Just because it's now happened to you it doesn't mean there is a major problem. If you do a search on the matter say search "Telstra Boost SIM porting/activation issues" you will see that there is more complaints about it years ago and few today, definitely no news articles or Telstra announcements, the reason why, because there's no issues at the moment!!!!

                    • @PukeyLuke: Have you tried calling the telstra port people? Normally you get straight through (i had to call them a few times a couple of months back waiting for a previous carrier to fix something so a port could go through).

Last week both Boost support and Telstra support said there were porting issues and they had a massive backlog of calls and ports to process. I gave up after an hour of waiting for the telstra guys to answer. Boost support expressly said the long wait times to telstra support were directly a result of an ongoing porting issue.

          • +1

@crazyboy: Still waiting on mine to port over. Been 5 days, boost staff aren't helpful. Blame it on a Telstra outage which had been going on for over 2 weeks. I ported my wife's number after mine and hers got activated the next morning.

            • @Pythagoras: yes there is an issue relayed buy the people on the phone. Reality is something is not working the way it should and hundreds are affected (800 was one number the told me of users affected.

        • So for me i can just keep using my sim card i have. Yes maybe a good idea to w as it till backlog settles down so its just recharge and im good to go.
As for wife she will need a sim also,im i right you have to buy these, have sims never been free? Or do boost send you one free. You would think you could get sims free to gain new customers.
Once she has the sim and recharge then its to contact amysim and get them to port number over. Its been a while since i did this so cant remember the order in what you do. Mine seems easy enough but wife being with someone else little bit different.

      • +1

So, this offer costs $12.50 / mon
You don't like to save 7.50 / mon

"Telstra thanks you for your Tip"

    • Thanks.
If that's something printed at the counter, does it have an expiry date? If yes, how long is that?
      Thanks.

      • +1

The last recharge voucher I got had an expiry of around 18 months after purchase.

The $2 sim will have a seperate expiry too. Probably even longer and you can check before you buy.

    • Great info mate, doing this week 😁

    • OR: Buy the $2 SIM-kit anywhere (a few Rural
stores place had it; I got mine at Woolies!)
      (w/ ZERO-value <= Welcome to Telstra!)

    • Hi Cucumber123,

Do I need to do point number 1 and 2 if I am already on a Telstra Prepaid sim card? I want to port over my number to Boost. Also, I don't have any recharge credit left on my Telstra sim, should I get some credit in before doing any of this? I was just thinking of getting 7 days worth of credit on the Prepaid Max Plan.

      • You will need to do steps 1 and 3.

If you can live without your phone until the blank sim gets delivered then you don’t need to buy any more Telstra credit. Or if you do, just wait until the day it expires to do step 3.

        • Thanks for the reply.

So with step 3 they will port my old Telstra number over. I can wait and not purchase any credit if I don't have to. I'll try and call Boost now.

Which phone number do I call? The new customer phone number? Also, do I have to give them a reason why I want the blank SIM. What exacply is a blank SIM anyway?

        • Hi mate, I did everything you said. Got the Recharge from Coles and ordered the blank SIM from Boost. Do they usually send it via Express Postage? I'm in country WA, so I'm wondering if might have to wait up until a week to get it?

Edit : Do I call Boost to port the number after I've gotten the blank SIM?

Also, any chance you could PM me the link to the Whirlpool thread.

As for the Recharge credit, since the expiry on mine is over 12 months, could I get another for $135 and just use that after this initial 12 months credit has expired to add 12 months more, or do you guys think that is too far down the line to go purchasing more credit this early?

          • @Ice009:

As for the Recharge credit, since the expiry on mine is over 12 months, could I get another for $135 and just use that after this initial 12 months credit has expired to add 12 months more, or do you guys think that is too far down the line to go purchasing more credit this early?

Yes, you would be able to.

Just make sure you save a digital copy of the receipt because I'm sure 12 months later down the track it will fade away.

If you're ready to commit to the $135 price (I don't think Boost would get any cheaper), then I would do it.
You'd lose around $2.70 in interest if you were to put the $135 now in a 2% "high" interest savings account though haha

The plan provisions seem to be stabilizing.. Kogan hasn't increased their data allowance in ages, seems like the mobile market won't have such aggressive competitive tactics anymore :(

          • @Ice009: They sent my SIM's via courier. StarTrack from memory - They arrived in Canberra the next day.

Yes, you'll need to wait until it arrives before you call them again as you'll have to read the SIM serial number to them when you call.

  • Activated on 15/9 10pm,got through next morning 8am.
    Everything is fine.

    • +1

happy to hear about your personal positive experience, but please keep in mind that many are having

much worse luck/experience than you through no fault of their own.

    • what was your old service provider?

  • +4

Our last port to Boost was a 3 day mess. Wait times for call and chat were unacceptable,

So I recharged the existing plan (the plan I had planned to port from) and then Boost ported my number in.

Effective day is the date of request not the date the number ported in, so we lost 3 days there as well.

They've awarded me with 10GB bonus data as a way of saying sorry. Pointless as this plan came with 40GB anyways.

    Be wary folks

  • +2

Boost activation was fine for me going from Optus. Done in 15min on a sundat afternoon.

It shouldn’t take more than 1 day. Ever.

    • Was it just activating a new prepaid number? Doing this for mobile phone use/data only is 99% of the time really quick and easy to do online in a minute and number is active usually in 5-20 minutes.

Porting can be another issue as most of it is out of your hands and can take many hours or a few days, but usually if done within business hours Mon to preferably Friday midday ( get's risky Friday arvo and Saturday lol ), is successfully finalized within 1-4 hrs.

      • +1

I ported my phone from Telstra prepaid to Aldi Thursday morning & it happened pretty much instantly.

Friday morning I ported from Aldi to Boost, but nothing has happened yet. The activation e-mail I received from Boost advises "should be active within the next four hours but may take up to 24 business hours*"……given they quote 'business hours' I'll chase them up mid week if still nothing

        • +2

From my experience as a long time sim Sl*t, that activation e-mail you received stating up to 24 hrs is pretty standard fair, and if I were you I would also call them tomorrow morning so they can look into it and escalate request.

You sound like you like sticking to the Telstra network lol.

Telstra>Aldi>Boost all ports between Telstra haha all using Telstra, but from my understanding Telstra and Boost use same activation/porting computer system and support, where Aldi uses part of their own, which is different to Aldi using "part of the Telstar" network for mobile infrastructure service. Porting between Telstr/Telstra re-sellers is harder/can take longer than non Telstra, but looks like Boost is having more problems/delays than usual.

          • @ozhunter68: Yeah sticking with the Telstra network….Optus and Vodafone coverage where I am is rubbish.

Only doing it this way as you can't port straight from Telstra to Boost unless you get Boost to send out a blank sim…..I thought doing it this way was quick and easy! I need to do the wifes phone too now - I might get a blank SIM sent out for hers

            • @tight-ass: Just an update on my situation above for those of you currently waiting to be ported.

I just rang Boost to request a blank SIM be posted out to transfer the wife's mobile from Telstra prepaid to Boost to avoid the delays I'm having with mine having gone Telstra>Aldi>Boost. I got the lady to see what the hold-up was with mine and she redid the activation process over the phone with me - had to provide her with the serial number of the boost SIM I had.

I got a text message within 10 mins to confirm the transfer via a link and 'confirmation code'…….30 mins later I got the message I have no current service. Put the Boost SIM in my phone, selected the recharge amount and we're in business.

              • @tight-ass: So are you suggesting Aldi mobile to Boost is not a smooth process

    • Well one guy has waited a month!

  • -2

Does Woolworths offer this as well ($135 for $150)?

    • For any who want the $150
      Woolies should have the
      "Zero-Value" SIM-kit (for $2)
      & you can Recharge online
      if/when your new SIM activates

  • Any review from current Boost users?

How reliable their service is whilst calling Malaysia, Singapore, India and China? Is that unlimited regardless of landline or mobile?

Is it worth waiting for deal like this - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/477406

    • +2

The service is pretty and calls are unlimited. I only call mobile, so I know that mobile calls and SMS are unlimited. Landline calls might be unlimited too, may be confirm with customer care once.

For $7.50, its not worth to wait I guess. If you need a plan now, then this deal is good. If you have any Coles flybuys bonus points offer then you can stack with it and reduce your plan cost.

      • Thanks crazyboy. Did you face any issues as in one of the comments above?

        "Kaiserkid7 1 hour 36 min ago
Bought from Boost last month and it's taken over a month to activate (Still not activated yet). They have no idea why either. This is porting from Optus."

My Lebara 1 year plan is getting expired in few days - doesn't want to get stuck with activation.

        • +1

I just ported from Lebara this morning, it took ~15 minutes.

          • @frankymatty: yes most work but many are stuck in limbo.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yes, have been reading and was concerned as I only had two days till my plan was up, I wonder if the issues lie with Postpaid services - Lebara was prepaid.

              • @frankymatty: mine is prepaid and others also.

        • In terms of call quality and reception everything has been fine with all my other services.. Just this porting issue did my head in.

    • I ported from Kogan a few months back. I found data reception better with Kogan, I get a few more blank spots on my morning commute with Boost, Sydney T4 line. I'll be switching to a Voda/Optus carrier when this one ends,

No issues with calls both domestic and international.

  • Do they allow Data Leftover from the $40/45GB package to this $150/80GB one?

    • +1

Pretty sure data does not roll over when converting to a different plan such as this, but hopefully for you I could be wrong.

      • Thanks. Is there any way to confirm?

        • +1

Yeah, put your feet up and get ready to spend some time reading through the fine print/terms and conditions online.

Otherwise get onto live chat or questions in support.

    • +1

Yes, but only for a month.

      • Sorry, what does that mean?
Let's say I buy a $40 package on 01/10. On 27/10 I have 30GB left, and I switch to $150 package. What would happen? Will I have two buckets, one with 30GB with the validity of 30 days from 27/10, and another one with 80GB with the validity of 365 days from 27/10?

        Thanks

        • Sorry I understood you wrong. Your left over data will not be valid for next 30 days but if you are within first 3 recharge while switching to $150 package you will get bonus data and that will be valid for next 28 days and 80 GB for 365 days.

    • +1

Not any more. They've closed the loophole that allowed the old package's data to roll over for 30 days…

  • +4

Boost porting is an absolute nightmare. Because they share similar customer database with Telstra they ported me to an existing Telstra customer with the same first and last name. That Telstra customer received a call and was like "I never requested a Boost number port" and cancelled my number.

My number was then placed in limbo transferred to Telstra but not linked to any sim, and had to go into Telstra physical store and sort it out over a week.

Boost telco staff are lazy AF.

    • Wow, that's about as bad as you could get. I have heard this happening from other people with various telcos, even people on long term business plans, my old mate was really pi**ed of I remember.

I would believe you about lazy staff, but maybe not only from Boost, but maybe more so especially in your unlucky case. Have you had other boost customer service issues? I have had problems with a couple of others too :-(

  • +2

can you buy extra data if you run out before 12m?

  • Ive never ported before

Wondering what the steps are to port and recharge with the 150$ voucher?

    Im currently vodafone prepaid

    Thanks

    • I bought Boost recharge and complementary sim at Coles the first time on sale for $135. I was on an Aldi 12 month prepaid plan which expired in August and went to Vodafone prepaid to use up one of the sim starter packs I got when there was that Netflix $20 gift card with Vodafone sim starter pack. Anyway, I ported from Vodafone prepaid to Boost $150 12 month last Friday morning in 40 mins. No issues.
Note that the Boost sim and recharge voucher was from months back and the expiry date for each was well into 2020, so anyone wishing to get this deal this week and use in future should be OK provided they check the expiry date on sim pack. Hope this helps

  • I've been to a few coles around Sydney for previous boost deals and to this day, I have never ever seen this particular one in stock at coles

  • Can you use coles GCs to buy?

    • Probably not.

      • +5

Yes, just did it yesterday. Can even split transactions because Coles treats these voycher as normal goods and services, not giftcard.

        • +1

Yes you can, but if you buy it with the sim then the Coles GCs have to be equal or greater than the amount you spend

          • @hihi: Confused, if it's less than the amount you spend, then isn't that "insufficient funds"?

Unless you mean that you can only use one GC, and that that GC has to be greater value than this boost pack?

Edit: Nvm, if it's not a sim starter pack, all good with splitting I guess!

        • Can you buy this at self serve? I have a lot of gift cards to use lol..

          • +1

@Bargainbeth: yes, if buying voucher don't even have to get staff to authorise the transaction

    • You know where to get coles GCs at a discount? or anyone knows?

  • Just a word of warning for anyone visiting Top Ryde Centre, NSW; Telstra's network is non-existent with blacksots everywhere! I was lucky to get H+ at best, and nil coverage in Kmart! Just saying..

    • Same with Voda..

    • Complaint to facility manager. They need some indoor cells.

    • It's the same no matter which service. The worst spot is Coles

  • I'm currently on this 80gb plan with boost but only expires in March 2020. Wondering if i can buy now and recharge only in coming march, assuming this deal works doe both existing customer and new one?.. it does say "recharge". Anyone asked boost before and got confirmation?

    • +2

I bought a recharge voucher recently from woolies a week ago, said expires mid Jan, 2021.
I'm going to guess it's 15 months from purchase date.

You'll be fine to buy it now.

    • +4

I am sure Coles will run these $135 promotion every now and then, who knows, maybe the deal will keep going cheaper. True ozbargainers will wait for the best deal!

      • +1

What if by March 2020 there is no better plans?

True ozbargainer buys now thinks later….

        • Worth the risk for $15

  • I still have about 1 month of credit on a Vodafone pre-paid account, but I want to change to this plan.

If I buy this sim and credit, when will it need to be activated?

    • +1

To port you must be able to send or receive an SMS (apparently new porting rules to indicate your intention to port away).
To be on the safe size, two days before your prepaid expires

      • +1

Read above, i’d Allow a bit longer!!

      • If it's send "or" receive, then you should be able to port out within 6 months of service ending (I've been told it still remains active for 6 months), since to receive text you don't need working credit. Only issue here would be not having data/ability to call out.

  • +1

Our last 2 ports from Kogan was a breeze, both activated within 15 mins. Hope this time those Coles staffs know what to do and how to go thru transactions with the $2 free sim … last time was painful.

Absolutely perfect timing, 2 more of our Kogan prepaids going to expire in less than 2 weeks time, thats a total of 4 numbers jumping off, goodbye Kogan, its really a shame they stopped doing good 365 days deal and let everyone switched to Boost …

  • can i buy this and leave it for a year until my existing one expires ? or does the sim card expire ?

    • Usually the SIM card expires before the voucher, but you can just chuck the sim card if you're renewing an existing service.

  • Wish to know the expiry date of activation on these

    • Sounds like the voucher is good for about 14-16 months, but your YMMV.

  • Here we go again. Any reason to believe this will be any better than the Big W debacle?

    • +7

Yes, this is a recharge voucher not a sim starter pack so it literally can’t sell out unless maybe the store runs out of receipt paper.

Worst case, your coles store runs out of $2 sims so you get the voucher only from Coles and a $2 sim somewhere else.

  • +1

fwiw activated this deal/sim 2 days ago, that was originally bought the last time it was on special at Coles earlier this year. Porting old number from amaysim/optus was quick and successful, maybe a 10-15min wait time? So far, data speeds better than amaysim/optus in sydney, overseas 'free' calls also clear and good.

  • +4

Damn you Coles/Boost, how about a special on the $300 12 month plan please :-)

    • I just want the Telstra $300 SIM for $200 again.

    • You can buy two of these vouchers and stack them. Boost support will need to do it for you.

  • +3

The absolute best prepaid plan. Comes with Telstra afl and nrl streaming no data usage.

    • you mean this one does or the $300 sim one does?

      • +1

Yes. Boost gets access to most of Telstra's goodies.

        • +1

          Awesome, thanks for the reply

          • +1

@frazel: Nw, just make sure you get your details 110% correct. That's why peoples churn times are high. Had the same with my neighbors. Ported two to Boost. Got small details like a letter wrong on the first one and it took an extra day. Second one took 15 minutes.

  • +3

Thanks for this, I have been waiting for this sale as well!

I switched to Boost last month from Amaysim and it has been worth it. In Melbourne, much better coverage along train lines and faster speeds in general even in city. I got a $20 Boost mobile plan SIM from officeworks for $10 (Officeworks also has $40 prepaid SIM for$20) to try Boost mobile first, activation took overnight had to wait about 8 hours in total during porting hours but switched over fine. Now will look to buy this and apply on top of what i have.

  • Anyone knows if unconditional call diversion is included (it is on Belong)?
