Good price for such a function rich printer. Pity it is so frickin huge.

    • Yeah Id buy asap if it was smaller….this will take up my whole room. :(

    • it is a good price, but the footprint is similar to other Brother printers.

it's just taller, but it essentially covers the same floor/table-space.

  • +6

if you wanted to know its about $30 shipping to sydney

    • +2

When you take into account the total cost including the printer, that's actually not bad. Bought the Brother a few years ago with similar function and paid $130 collected which was darn cheap, now it's double the price. Been looking for something as good. I'll keep this one in mind.

      • +20

wasn't saying it was bad or good.. just saying it cost 30 bucks to ship.

        • and he was just saying it's not that bad..

    • im getting "There are no shipping options available. Please ensure that your address has been entered correctly, or contact us if you need any help." for sydney

  • How much are toners and how long do they last?

      • +1

        ouch…. expensive. thanks.

        • +1

          ouch…. expensive. thanks.

Gotta look at more than the upfront price, that one will print 10k pages. A lot of cheaper ones will only do 2k pages or so, you you need to buy 5 of them to equal this one.

        • -1

I disagree. If you're expecting it to last a while and many thousand prints, the toner cost is very important. If a printer is free including a 10k cartridge, and each subsequent cartridge is 50c a page. It ain't cheap.

        • +2

2.83c per page. Seems about normal compared to my last few monochrome solutions. Anything under 5c per page seems good enough for me in the small office/consumer/home bracket, but I'm sure higher volume users will scoff at these numbers.

      • Are there any generic cartridges that are cheaper?

          • @HomeAlone: generic cartridges are expensive

          • +1

@HomeAlone: My experience with Prime ink was horrendous. Bought 2 drums from them; 1st one went thru ok and ran out after 4 months. Popped in the 2nd and ink smeared while 80% of drum remain. Complained to them and was ignored. Can't return. Can't leave neg feedback because found out problem too late. Just let fellow ozbargains aware of similar situations. Cheers!

        • +1

Probably cheaper to buy two units because the drum will have to be replaced eventually as well as the toner

          • +4

@edrift: Can someone please think of Mother Earth?

            • @alo1234: Yes, how dare you not.

            • +3

@alo1234: When she learns to print my stuff…sure will think of her then

            • @alo1234: Few Bn years later we’d all be stuck inside a blackhole, so it won’t matter

    • $98 from Aussie Toner. We use them for all our Brother printers and no issues.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1x-Toner-603H-60F3H00-for-Lexmar…

      • I have been using toners from Aussie Toner too. This printer toner seems too expensive. Despite having 10k yield, we have to consider the life span too. Brother with 2k yield last me for about 2 years.

This printer is good for business or for students that do alot of printings. Otherwise, this is an expensive printer to keep.

  • +4

Check toner prices before you buy the printer. They are more expensive than the printer itself

    • +4

      its a 10k page toner though…..

      • +8

No one seems to understand your point. I feel your frustration man.

      • I don't think the initial one is 10k though, its 2.5k according to the Lexmark site

      • +1

Wouldn't the tonner go bad after 2 years?

        • In what way would toner 'go bad' ? it is an inorganic substance and stored in a reasonably sealed container (the cartridge..)

          • @jason andrade: Bad as in powder getting solidified Or something similar by temperature etc.

    • See above. ;-p

      $42 for 10,000 pages = 0.42 cents per page.

      • i think your math is wrong

        • +1

Can't see where… See post above by 'loke':
Refill $42 on ebay, prints 10,000 pages.
$42 divided by 10,000 pages = $0.0042 per page, or 0.42 cents per page.

  • +2

    $50 shipping to Brisbane.

  • Looks to be an old model but fairly reasonable price for the functions.

    • +2

Yes, 5 years plus (got a fleet of a similar machine ms610dn the non scanner version). But the machines are pretty reliable except when a piece of paper gets stuck in the fusing unit and needs a warranty job.

  • I know this is a mono printer but if you want a colour one check out the epson ink tank range. So cheap to run. I bought mine 18 months ago and our family (1 uni and 1 highschool age kid) has barely touched the ink. I think about 3 more years before i need to refill it. I just clean it every few months.

    • +6

I've never been a big fan of inkjets. Used to have them in the past because the printers were cheaper but sometimes they don't get used for weeks or even months and the inks would then dried up. Ended up being expensive to run.

      • Had no issue so far and did not see this issue when i was researching it before (dictionary— Research: modern usage look it up on google.) I seriously love this printer and am getting the big brother for our office.

        • Which model did you buy?

          • @neo: It was a basic with scanner i think the 2700 or 2710 (its at home)

      • Can you please share the model number

    • +2

i had one of these once (i think) and it had feeder issues where the paper would keep jamming or wrinkling the side of the page causing ink blotches etc… i really liked the printer besides that but when i started messing with the tray it came apart and i couldn't put it back together which also meant i couldn't take it back to officeworks so it got dumped :(

    • I have an Epson ink tank ET-2500, it's a piece of c%^p.
Every other week, have to clean it multiple cycles, taking half an hour.
Never good print quality, should have taken it back when I got it.
      Won't do borderless photo prints.
For a $400 printer, very average.
Is cheap to run though, that's a plus.

The newer models may be better.

  • Does it have WiFi? There's no mention but listed network scanning in the specs.

    • No wifi. You'd need to hook this up to your wifi router

    • There is a wireless card, about $100. It is a USB one.

  • What's the scanning quality like?

Would it be good enough to scan old photos?

    • +2

      Yikes $72 shipping to Perth

  • Apparently they come with 2500pgs of toner in the box. Expensive toner to buy though.

    • Would generic toners work?
Or will it cause future issues?

      • +1

Yeah, they would have to be chipped however.

Screen may display non authentic lexmark toner on the screen.

        • chipped?
The generic toners come chipped? Or is this something we have to do?

          • @congo: If you have an Arduino you can reset the chip yourself.

              • +2

@Jackson: No specific link as each device is different. But if you can Identify the EEPROM chip pinout. You can use the Arduino to attach the EEPROM to it then make a backup of the data then using the scan and replace method. Change the value to 0.

Good deal, which inspired me to look further as 310 model does not do duplex scanning. eBay has MX410DN for $208 (delivered to Sydney)

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CLEARANCE-Lexmark-MX410de-38ppm-…

For $70 more delivered, you get:

    (a) duplex scanning (most important for me)
    (b) 5,000 starter cartridge instead of 2,500
    (c) USB printing
    (d) some other minor upgrades eg faster printing speed

    • awesome work i jumped on this one as well for the same reasons.

    • this needs its own deal! shipping for me (for this deal) was $50 so the price is really similar

    • I think eliteprintsolution has good deal just $196 including for MX410de

      https://www.eliteprintsolutions.com.au/product/lexmark-mx410…

      • But need to add shipping cost…

      • ebay price was 198 plus 12 shipping for me but elite was 196 plus 55 shipping.

    • Also add MX410 has scan-to-USB function which could be useful for some ppl.

    • great post - can I ask what scanning software you run and why?

      • I scan as PDF to email usually, the easiest.

    • the duplex scanning on this, could be painful.
i have a Brother all-in-one printer and it's decent at printing, but scanning is not its forte.

i also have a dedicated duplex document scanner, and they are simply worth it.
      no regrets.

( i had the Fujitsu Scansnap for a good 6-7 years and now using Canon Imageformula models )

    • are there any coupon codes going for ebay?

  • Mod, how do I change this to "out of stock"?

    • +1

just do a "report" on the post saying, "Sold out"

    • +1

Strange, it was out of stock and then back into stock again

  • +2

    bought one

    Thanks OP!

  • Does it have:
    1) wireless
    2) scan to google/dropbox/any cloud
    3) print from remote location to the printer
    4) duplex scanning
    5) duplex printing
    6) fax

  • +2

my brother hl-1110 from ozbargain i bought at least 3+ years ago with ebay generic toner still do me well…

  • Lexmark still exists?

I remember the horrible experiences I used to have with them 10+ years ago!

  • +1

Just watching from the morning and brought one !! thanks very much for this !!- I called them before buying, they updated the stocks to available :)

  • +1

Bought one - keep it in the shed whilst waiting for the existing printer to run out of ink!

  • Damn good price for function reach printer. I just bought the Brother MFC-L2750DW from Office works and paid $250 for it.

  • +1

It is doubtful this ships with a 10K page printer cartridge installed.
Most likely 2.5K page starter kit.

    • +1

Yes, specifications do state *Up to 2 500 page starter cartridge ( on another site )

    • +1

The Lexmark website says that the printer includes the smaller 2.5k toner "starter"

  • Quick Google shows 60k pages with $70 generic toner

    https://www.inkstation.com.au/1-lexmark-500z-genuine-50f0z00…

    • Quick google shows many things. Slow google is more reliable.

      • Slow google is more reliable.

I thought this as well, which is why I moved to Optus 4G.
Now it's even less reliable :(

    • +2

That's for imaging unit (Drum), not the toner which is ~10,000 for the high yield.

For about every 6 toners you need a new imaging unit.

    • +1

That's a genuine imaging unit not a generic.

  • Wow this is awesome! Thanks OP.
In my case I will continue looking for a smaller printer for my very small room.
    Any suggestions?

    • This printer.

      And a wall shelf.

  • Quite cheap but I think everyone's buying inkjet now the technology has improved so much (eg. HP pagewide)
