I ride my older Razor around my suburb. I am not endangering anyone. With the technology now able to make these a viable from of transport, the Gov is crazy not to allow these.

  • +3

They are starting consultation to harmonise the use of personal mobility devices such as escooters in Australian Road Rule and hoping to align the rules across all states. It's a while away, but there is a consultation paper released in October 2019 on it, which you can put your 2 cents in on. https://www.ntc.gov.au/sites/default/files/assets/files/Barr…

  • +3

    100kg weight limit.

They ALWAYS forget to mention that stat for some reason.

    • +16

That rules out most on ozbargain then especially with the recent McDonald’s and kfc deals.

      • What KFC deal??
Thought it was macs and doms

    • This is a guide really… I have no issues at 105kg

      • Warranty voided lol

        • +3

I'm sure they'll invest in weighing me vs. replacement of a $800 scooter 🤣

  • Good price - was $1200 last week I think.
350w motor is at the lower end - heavier riders, those with hills on their commute, or thrill seekers should consider 500w+ for not much more $.

  • Freaken ridiculous price. Got one at $1199 from walksmart a month ago. :(

    • Wheelygoes.com.au has had them at $999 since pre release.

      • +3

        Im sure that helped :)

    • If you bought it with cc, perhaps check if it has price guarantee policy?

    • +3

      walksmart help the guy out

  • Damn good scooter for those wanting to bypass ES1/2/3/4
Plus plus to the OP for beating me to it

    • I dont think there is an ES3 ?
The ES4 is just an ES2 with added battery.

Ive had a Ninebot ES2 for a year, and initially recommended it, but not such a fan now. Problems with firmware updates, scooter randomly drops to half power if the headlight is on (common problem).

Thankfully this new Ninebot is based on the Xiaomi platform, not the older ES1/2.

Weird that they developed the Ninebot Max and M365 Pro at the same time. Although the M365 Pro is aimed at the rental market.

The 500w Zero 8 I ordered on Saturday arvo just arrived by FedEx 2 mins ago. New toy :)

      • Correct - I think the number refers to the battery cell count from memory

      • Who did you buy your Zero 8 from?

I'm looking into either that or a 9 as an upgrade from my m365.

        • Directly from FalconPEV using an ESG 5% discount code - plus the Zero 8 is currently on special.
          Around $845 delivered.

          https://www.falconpev.com.sg/collections/electric-scooters-e…

          Im unboxing it now.

          • @systmworks: Now you just have to wait out the initial charge. Gets to 55 volts thereabouts. I'm four days into my Zero 9 on Falcon PEV. Heaps better commute over the M365.

            • +1

@fatty: Ive got gym tonight so I won't get a chance to tighten the bits and read the manual until tonorrow night.
              Its on charge now.
What a beast.. and it's their smallest model !

It folds down way smaller than my ES2 - but you can feel the extra weight in the 500w motor.

              https://i.imgur.com/LYsBELs.jpg

              • @systmworks: Ha, I scoot to the Gym tonight, with hills. Something that wasn't desirable with the low power of the M365.

I think Kickscooter Max is a bit overkill on the battery capacity. I mean the range is great but it's adding weight that could otherwise be put towards larger motor or suspension. If you are needing the range, you will also be wanting more power and more comfort.

                • @fatty: What first time setup / tightening of bolts etc did you need to do before riding the Zero first time ?

I need to tighten the brake handle and speedo/throttle bolts into the handlebars as they are loose for shipping.

                  Battery charged overnight.
I wish i had ordered the metal rear carry handle - which also serves as a foot rest above the rear fender.

                  • @systmworks: Same bolts as you mentioned. I checked all the others and they were tight.

    • It's also a very different scooter than the ES2/4. IMHO completely changes the purpose, as it's not as portable on public transport etc - much bigger and heavier than ES2.

      • Are you referring to the Ninebot Max, or the Zero 8?

While the Zero8 weighs 40% more, thanks to the telescopic stem and fold in handlebars its folded size is much smaller than my ES2.

When I slide the ES2 under a train seat the handlebars stick out about 1/3rd of the width of the train corridore (isle?) - so I have to put my bag there to help people see it.

        • there's another way it can go under the seat, you just haven't found it yet:) some seats are not suitable but many are. the front wheel ends up poking out under seat at your feet when you have it positioned. or the handle bars depending on what seat. it can be done so it's not a hazard on either end of scooter. That's ES2. I wouldn't try it with anything longer or wider.

          • @cerealJay: I dont get what you mean.. photo ? :)

            • @systmworks: I was referring to the Max btw. It's 19.1 kg heavy.

Don't worry… end of day, it's not that comfortable carrying even an ES2 on train. Bus is very awkward, I've tried it, and it sucks. My ideal scooter is smaller than ES2, and around 5 or 6 kg with suspension, dimmable headlights, very foldable.

  • This really is an extraordinary price, I have the ES4, it is great but this model really has everything fixed without the ugly battery on the upright… Total bargain. Thanks

  • +1

I have absolutely no use for it but want it because it's a great bargain.

    • +2

You just summed up my whole ozb life 🤣

  • @gearbite if you guys could price match this plus the ebay pblitz 15%. It will be a real killa.

Please do this. I will grab it right away. Haha

  • Did they recently just release this. Damn I want an upgrade now.

  • +1

Odd that these are illegal but electric bikes are fine. Where do you draw the line between one or the other?

Both have two wheels and handlebars. If you put tiny pedals on the side would it then be legal? If you took the pedals off your ebike would it then be illegal?

    • Yes - as you need to pedal for them to be legal.
      Electric assist…

      • +1

As someone who has normal bikes, ebikes, and escooter, you can go through the motion of moving your legs without putting any real effort into it and the motor will drive 100% of the motion.

So in other words, yes pedelec requires "pedalling" but not really.

  • +1

Perfectly fine in Sydney, it’s a bit of an grey area here., nothing has been enforced, as to lime scooters trials have been successful implemented, will be seeing them on roads soon enough.

as long your using bike lanes, wearing helmet, having brake lights, following speed signs and not speeding, plenty of people commute daily with these, just don’t break any rules and you won’t be bothered by police, common sense.

Retail companies wouldn’t be selling these if people couldn’t use them, explain why soo much people commute with them and use them for Uber Eats in CBD?

Government is changing the law soon enough sometime, they already acknowledge the power scooters as a user friendly way to travel.

Seen some people not use helmets which Your asking for it. I travel with mine daily for years and it has been fine, just don’t be a idiot.

Its a pretty good price i reckon

I've got an M365 pro that i got for ~$800 - this is similar - good comparisons on this model and M365 here.

Essentially the same thing, just bigger as Xiaomi bought out Segway so same same isnt it

    https://www.gearbest.com/blog/new-gear/ninebot-segway-max-g3…

At this price, i'd nab this one for local warranty or price match Scooterhut (no, i dont work for them) for local warranty via bricks and mortar shops

Ninebot Weighs a bit mind you - so not quite portable for some at 18kg, the price of a bigger battery i guess.

    • +2

M365 Pro = front wheel drive
Segway Ninebot Max = Rear wheel drive

      Big difference IMO.

      • how so?. Is rear wheel drive better/worse?

        • +1

Front wheel drive makes it difficult to help the scooter up hills by kicking, it tends to lift the front wheel and spin.

          • +3

@automated: i can confirm this. i've ridden 400km on my m365 - i would have thought the back tyre would wear faster due to the disc brake locking up occasionally, but the front wheel is wearing faster due to micro-slips when momentarily losing traction, even on little bumps. this should be less of an issue for the MAX, but the drive wheel will probably always wear a bit faster. Another benefit of the MAX is the 10x2.75-inch tyres have roughly double the volume of the m365's 8.5x2-inch tyres. This means lower operating pressure, since the tyre can handle more compression from bumps before bottoming out and puncturing (MAX tyre rated at 30psi, vs 50psi for m365). The larger tyre also means more cushioning of bumps, and a larger contact area, meaning you can stop faster without skidding. With the m365, if you want to stop quickly, you really have to make a point of crouching and putting your body weight as far toward the back as possible, or the rear disc locks up and you skid (which can be dangerous). You can still enhance your stopping power by leaning back while braking on the MAX, but with the drum brake at the front, you can brake a lot harder before it skids. Wow that turned into a long rant.

  • Another noob question, is it doable to travel with this scooter on a bus when it is folded (for example, if for some reasons, I have to stay longer at work or sudden free office drinks) or it is too huge for bus rides?

    • +1

When folded its a bit higher than some other eScooters on the market. Probably OK for occasional bus or commuting in train but a bit awkward for regular bus commuting.

    • See my other post below about this. Be aware, this scooter is almost 20 kg, and it's a lot larger than the ES2. It will not be a good experience taking this on bus or tram. Train will be okay but you will need to stand near door. It won't fit under your seat like the ES2. Personally I would avoid this Max model if you're considering taking it on any public transport. Try lifting 20 kg of awkward shaped object a few metres and see how you feel. Spoiler alert: you won't look cool doing it, you will look like a tourist struggling with oversize luggage.

      • Thanks, probably, I should consider an electric skateboard instead.

  • +3

Can confirm, this is well below cost price.

Or at least, our cost price

    • +4

Should get it from jb hi fi then

      • Benefit of that would also be that it's easier to get a warranty claim from JB instead of going through your own wholesaler…

        • +1

I think our wholesaler provides superior service, i.e. they supply us with parts or replacements as per our request,

We would not be able to hold customers off up to two weeks for them to replace items when we could fix them on the spot.

Also, JB limits 1 per customer

          • @walksmart: I bought my Xiaomi M365 last year from walksmart and I can vouch for their after salse service. I had an issue with my rear wheel bearings and they replaced the entire wheel on the same day with no questions asked.

  • +7

Be warned: this scooter is almost 20 kg. It will not appeal to everyone who may have been fine with the 12 kg ES2. I own an ES2 clone, and I'm average strength male. I would not want a scooter heavier than 12 kg. If ever you need to carry it upstairs, such as train station etc, or just moving it in general when not scooting, it will be a real pain.

It's also larger, and would be a burden to carry on public transport or where there is crowds of people. The ES2 for example, can often fit UNDER your seat on the train, but only just. There's no way this Max would fit under the seat, it's a different class of scooter. Also… if you're scooting on footpath where people are walking, you won't blend in as well with this large scooter. You will be less nimble to avoid obstacles. The ES2 (or equivalent) is still the better choice for a lot of people considering a scooter.

    • Yes, agreed

  • +1

Who knew there was so many members of the judiciary posting on Ozbargain!

    • We all have electric scooters

  • How does one get the coupon code…I'm interested in the Google hub max one on the same page .

  • +1

Thanks OP! I got mine for $755.04 after discounts to gift cards!

    • im tempted to get too, i assume through egift card.
were you able to drop a 799 egift card online or did you go instore?

  • +4

I encourage more people to use their scooters with in Sydney so the government officials will realise that sooner to provide a more efficient service to travel.

  • Very tempting

  • Nice scooter, but what's the point? If illegal to ride in public then I'd get bored riding it up & down my driveway. Unless they change the laws in SA it's just a dream sorry…

    • +2

      legal in QLD

      move up here :D

    • Uber was also illegal once. =) Civil disobedience seems to be the only way to legalised things nowadays it seems.

      • +2

What do you mean "nowadays"? That has been the process for the last 10000 years…

  • I literally had the entire checkout form completed, but never submitted after reading all the comments. Can't believe these things are illegal in WA (except for private property). :(

    • +5

Been riding my M365 in Perth no issues for months. Gone right past police on bikes and in cars and they haven't given me a second glance.

Hopefully common sense will prevail with laws, I can travel faster on a push bike and do more damage than a scooter.

  • Dumb question, but assuming you use these for commuting, how do you secure these? Are there bike locks?

    • +1

You can use a U style lock through the front fork under the wheel, or a chain through the rear wheel. You could technically take the wheel off this way, but it's a pain in the ass and would draw attention to any thieves attempting it

    • A regular bike lock (plastic coated wire/chain) or a solid D lock will do fine.

I use a $10 Kmart one. Which is a little ironic in the secure (swipe card) End of Trip facility with heaps of cameras in a $700Mil building.

But that's why Im an OzBargainer.

    • On my Xiaomi m365, I lock them through the rear wheel with a bicycle U lock. My bigger concern is vandalism, as they're not very commonly locked on the streets yet.

    • I keep mine folded under my work desk, which is also its charging station. I probably look like a tool riding this to work, but I have saved close to 700 bucks on fuel and train fares. Not to mention the time saved.

    • I just take it up into my office and slide it under the desk.

  • +1

Been watching and waiting for a good price on this scooter. What a price drop. Shut up and take my money jb hifi.

  • +1

I currently ride to work 1-2 days per week and drive the other days - 16km ride on bike paths along the freeway.

Been thinking of getting something like this instead of driving the other days. Does anyone have experience going that kind of distance on a scooter daily?

    • +1

This scooter will be perfect for those rides, range-wise. Only thing is you may want a higher max top speed if you’re wanting to save time and not worried about speed camera traps along the bike paths ;)

Final deciding factor is weight. If you have to negotiate more than one or two flights of stairs with the scooter at any point along your route, this scooter will become a pain in the ass really quickly.

      • +1

No stairs on my route. Apparently you can pretty easily increase the max speed to 30kph. I wouldn’t want to go too much faster than that - at least initially.

Ordered one for click and collect =)

  • Solid price but the very heavy weight, no dual suspension and capped speed limit rules this one out for me. Sticking with the Aussie Raine One order here.

  • Anyone know if this can be used legally as a mobility vehicle? ie My mum has Arthritis and struggles to walk much more than a 30-40 metres at a time. She has a disability permit for the car but rather than drive everywhere or have to resort to a big fat retard scooter, this would be heaps better for zipping up to the shops.

    • I've not seen any dispensations where a disability would qualify. Queensland has two laws for the different devices. It's all about the mobility device, not the rider.

  • +1

Less than 20 cents to charge and can transport an adult 50km. Electric transportation is truly amazing! Goodbye ICE.

  • +1

This is an insane price. I got my ES4 from SegwayAus and they still have the max at $999.

  • Only deal breaker is heavy and massive. Not portable which loses the point of a scooter..

  • +1

Anyone know how difficult it is to change the tubeless tyres on these?

    • I would like to know this as well - I can’t actually find where you buy spare tyres from either

      • I’m another interested in knowing this. It’s one of the main factors holding me back from purchasing a scooter for short rides to work. The videos on YouTube showing how to change the tyres on the Xiaomi 365 and Segway ES series seem like an absolute nightmare. I feel like I’d change 10 bike tyres with fewer tools in the same time it takes to do a single tyre on certain scooters.

        • I have an m365 and tyre changes are not that difficult. There are a few tricks you can do to make the process a lot easier.

These new tubeless ones on the other hand, I have no idea.

          • @Livert: Thanks, Livert. I'll have to have another look at videos online.

As for this Segway model, I couldn't find any videos or forum discussion re changing the tyres. There was a recent post on Reddit where Segway informed an owner that spare tyres were not yet available for this model (I also couldn't find any during my brief search) which is a bit of a concern. That said, the majority of riders are reporting no issues and loving the "self-healing". I like that the M365 has so many maintenance videos and spare parts easily accessible and at an affordable price. Decisions, decisions.

    • YouTube has videos.
Tyres available from AliExpress (and probably BangGood etc)

      • +1

Can't seem to find any videos. Got a link?

  • So I pre-ordered mine in October on Wheelygoes with the prospect of shpping from 15th of Nov. and " CHEAPEST IN AUSTRALIA GUARANTEED!".
I asked on the 15th via chat if it's still shipping from the 15th. Quick answer was that shipping got delayed and should be shipping soon.
Contacted them today via chat again and email wanting a refund because I saw it cheaper somewhere else and I can pick it up straight away. No answer on both end. There are no Terms& Conditions or anything about refunds on their site.
    Any ideas what to do?

    • where did you see the gurantee mate? Do you have that in writing?

you could always do a Credit card charge back and provide the bank evidence to fight your case?
