RRP. Having something in stock does not make it a bargain

    • +7

It's the "Nintendo retro console" bullshit all over again…

InB4: "It'Z iN StOcK, sO tHaT mAkEz iT a BaRgAiN!!!1!!1!1!!"

    • +1

Post this on a hand sanitiser "deal" and you'd get negged to hell.

By the logic in those deals, "supply and demand. It's a deal!". Well no. Just because there's limited Nintendo switches or hand sanitiser available doesn't mean they are "bargains" when sold at or above RRP

  • +3

I just bought one at jbhifi today for $449. (Fountain gate narre Warren, had 3 in stock as of 3pm)
    Try…
Search for switch on jbhifi website.. check availability in your area then get to shop if it says available. Can't purchase online.

    • Quite a few people followed this idea.

Was at Miranda NSW before open. At least 7 of the 15 people in line were after a Switch console. Guess what, all were already allocated .. Should have gone to Penrith instead.

  • Not a bargain but they should sell out quickly!!

  • +1

Friendly reminder that the Cemu and Yuzu emulators allow you to play most of the best switch exclusives on a gaming PC.

So if you have a PC, you can just buy the games only, play them now at 1080p, and save buying the console until the prices become sensible again.

    • +1

What kind of gfx card do you need as minimum for that?

      • +2

For Cemu: Any gaming graphics card from the last 10 years should be OK, it's not GPU intensive, just very CPU intensive.

I tried 4k on my R9 280x from 2013, and even the most intensive games like Breath of the Wild are playable. (But it's a bit slower, and my projector is only 1080p, so I just play in 1080p. 40 FPS in BOTW, 60 FPS in the other games like Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario, Smash, etc).

You just need a strong CPU: either a very recent/fast 2-core, or any 4-core or better desktop CPU from the last decade (I use an i5-3570 from 2013, but even my old i5-2500 from 2011 was playable).

Yuzu is not as mature, so performance is still improving each release. I haven't played it recently, so not sure. But most people can at least play Mario Odyssey, I'm told.

        • +1

Tried running Zelda on Cemu a few days ago and was unplayable, maybe 10fps.

i7 920 and an RX570 4GB. Though you did say any 4-core from the last decade :)

          • +1

@OneJay: Don't give up yet, you might still be able to get playable framerates: I got around 10 FPS myself at first.

I got it up to around 20 FPS by fiddling with settings and following written guides online for ages.

But I got it to 40 FPS by doing everything in BSOD's optimisation video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SinnEBc3O0

Follow everything in the video. One more thing: try the "triple-core recompiler" setting, as well as the "dual-core recompiler" one he recommends for 4 core, I got better results with triple.

            • +1

@ItsMeAgro: Thanks. I’ll watch the video and try optimising the settings. Also running at stock clocks 2.66 GHz but I know I can push it up to 3.66 GHz safely and max it out at 3.8-4.0.

Also ordered some 3rd-party Wiimotes because the gf only wanted a Switch for Just Dance -_-‘

              • @OneJay: You don't need a Switch to play Just Dance. Even the latest Just Dance 2020 is on other platforms like PS4 and xbox one and even the original Wii (no, seriously, look it up) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Dance_2020

I've played several Just Dance titles on Dolphin (the wii emulator). Works great.

I know some recent Just Dance titles can use phones instead wii motes too - I think you download an app and they talk to the console via bluetooth? You'd have to check if the emulator supports that.

                • +1

@ItsMeAgro: Yeah I have Just Dance 2016, 2019 and 2020 for Wii U on Dolphin. It’s not a demanding game at all. I know smartphones can act as a Wiimote too but I couldn’t get them to sync properly (and I think tracking may not be as good).

        • I tried BOTW on Cemu a few years back and it was god awful. Has it improved much since? Is Yuzu a better option?

edit: saved the BSOD video later… may give it another go

          • +2

@chriise: Yeah Cemu performance has improved tons in the last 6 months or so.

Cemu is definitely better than Yuzu for Breath of the Wild right now. I can't find any evidence online that the switch version has better textures or anything like that which could make it the superior version once yuzu can run the game at playable speed. Consensus online seems to be that either there are no such improvements or they are too subtle to tell for certain.

Switch vs Wii U comparison articles online focus mostly on framedrop/slowdown/lag and resolution, both of which are much better on Cemu with a gaming PC than on either the Wii U or the Switch. At this point the experience on Cemu is already significantly better than both the original console versions.

            • +1

@ItsMeAgro: Just went through BSOD's optimisation video, and got Breath of the Wild running pretty flawlessly like you recommended. Definitely jumped from 10fps to 40fps and very playable.

              • +1

@OneJay: Awesome! Glad I could help. It really is an amazing game.

    • By the best switch exclusives do you mean the ones that were ported from the Wii U? Or does Cemu emulator support Switch games as well?

      • +1

Correct, Cemu plays most of the best switch exclusives because they are ports from the Wii U. Many are totally identical except they run at slightly higher res, others have only very minor differences. (And of course Cemu runs them at even higher res, so except for portability, it's actually better than playing them on the Switch).

But Yuzu, an actual Switch emulator, is now playable too. So far only a few games are perfect or almost-perfect, but they include several of the few big Switch exclusives that are not already on Cemu, like Mario Odyssey.

So chances are, whatever games you want a Switch for, some of them, or even are all of them, are playable on a gaming PC (and often with better quality visuals).

  • +3

Like normal some don't know the market is around $680 and most likely won't get this bargain lol .
    Nothing new !

    • exactly! thank you

  • +2

    Where's the bargain?

  • +3

Not understanding pandemic causes people to be at home and all they play is a switch? Why not other consoles?

    • +1

      Young children not at school.

      • +5

        That and animal crossing

    • My Lenovo Explorer has found a new life. It's been good to come back to it after 12 months and play some interesting titles and see how VR is developing.

      • I still haven’t used mine, bought during the $99 price error at JB. What titles are you playing?

        • +1

Half Life Alex is the cream of the crop, but I'm really enjoying the Creed boxing game. If your fitness levels are pretty low like mine its a kick ass workout. Final Assault is pretty interesting TRS take too.

    • +2

Animal Crossing bro. I hear it’s all the rage.

Honestly though, I have no idea.

      • IMO Mario odyssey much better for kids….

Plenty of other titles eg. Brain Training much more meaningful

      • +1

My wife has now spent 20+ hrs so far over the last few days of us having the console haha, animal crossing is deff a winner, shes got a friend now that has now shown her howto fly to her island, good old DoDo Airlines

    • +2

Everyone that was going to buy the ps4/xbox already has one.

      • +2

And those who wanted a switch already got one like myself…. So I dun get it

People buying because Nintendo not shipping any more think it's gonna be prestige or something

        • +6

Not necessarily. Xbox and Sony has reached market saturation 18 months ago or so. They cant move units because everyone that wanted one, has one. They're at the end of their lifecycle and a lot of gamers are anticipating their successors.

The Switch hasn't been out as long as the other consoles and now that it has a mature library plus stay at home orders, gamers are coming on board.

          • @nomoneynoproblems: Switch was out back in 2017 March…. It isn't exactly new its been 3 years. What you mention here still doesn't make sense.

I think its more because of kids liking Switch more than the other consoles.

On the other hand because Nintendo stopped shipment and all of a sudden these high prices are driven by less supply and high demand.

            Think of it like hoarding.

            • @neonlight: I never said it was new. What part doesn't make sense?

Consoles hit their stride mid cycle when the library is mature….guess where the Switch is now? People want a Switch. Lack of supply has inflated prices as you've mentioned. There's no secret hidden meaning here.

          • @nomoneynoproblems:

Xbox and Sony has reached market saturation 18 months ago or so

…at the current asking price. They'd certainly move a few million more units if they were closer to $100, but it's likely more profitable for them to concentrate resources on manufacturing the next gen consoles instead at this point.

Switch is a long way from market saturation because it's basically never gone lower than around $400, and obviously the number of people who would buy one at $200 is a lot more than twice as many as at $400

    • Switch is seen as more family friendly

  • +1

Good News Boys and Girls. I just bought the Switch from Karingal Big W at 5.53pm today. I saw a guy with one in his hand at the game area and i asked the counter staff " where the hell are those kept". He said they just came in 2 hours ago, and he went and got me one! My son was so excited. I also got $20 off as i had a screen shot of JB hifi Price of $449. I suggest, get there early my OZBARGAIN cyber friends. p.s its the red and blue Switch (no grey ones) EB games didn't have any and said they wont price match anyway… lol

    • Since when do EB Games NOT price match? If you can show them the price from a nearby bricks and mortar store they will do it. They’re supposed to make sure they have them in stock but rarely ever do.

      • +1

EB’s policy is not to price match hardware regardless of who’s selling it

        • OK wow that’s interesting. I didn’t know this…
especially considering they’ve price matched hardware for me before. Granted that was a long time ago.

      • +3

The cow in EB games said …"we wont price match these Bundles… Blah Blah…" 5 minutes later i'm walking out of Big W,
1 month before they can get them .LOL

        • +2

          The cow in EB games

          I lol'ed.

    • Called 9am today and they have sold out :(

  • +6

For those that want to know why this is a bargain, read this:

    https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2020/04/08/business/corpor…

At this point in time it's a bargain if you can even get it for RRP. Overall it's not a bargain. I got mine for $300 after cash back Black Friday 2018, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

    • +1

The article actually states that Nintendo has only suspended shipments domestically. They're still continuing shipments to the European and US markets. There's no mention of Australia, the rest of Asia or other regions. However, it's obvious we're still getting shipments here, though slowly.

    • +1

That's 0ld news, they have resumed their production and shipment. They never ceased total shipments anyway.
      https://www.nippon.com/en/news/yjj2020041500288/nintendo-to-…

This is like the toilet roll saga: people panic bought but it didn't become normal priced toilet roll didn't become a bargain no matter how much individuals wanted to charge on eBay.

  • Not a bargain

  • Not available for purchase for me. I'm in Townsville.

  • +3

    Managed to get one…!!

  • +2

    got one from 2228

    • I got mine today. i purchased Wish giftcard from cashrewards with 5% off.
and I have my C&C cancelled on spot, and price matched with JBHIFI $449. paid with GC.

so I got it for $426…..

  • +5

Me and my gf where shopping at rouse hill big w for gym equipment and walked pass the game section and thought I might aswell ask even thought it wasn’t advertised on its website. So I assumed that they were out of stock so you could imagine how excited I was she told me that they had it neon switch in stock. Cherry on the cake was that my gf actually bought me the console with super smash and Mario odyssey…
I wanted to pay for it but she demanded to pay for it…

she told me that they had a couple in stock too so if ur near by and looking for a switch perhaps call them and see if they got it in stock

    • is it today? i live near there

      • yeh i got it today

        • thank you for confirming :) i will check tomorrow morning

          • +1

@jdesign2: no problems! hope it is in stock for you! :)

            • @wongphu: i went this morning no luck hahahaha dam.. none left

              • +2

@jdesign2: Damm man sorry to hear that man!!
Perhaps try calling other big w. I feel bad, ill help by also calling some near by big w shops and let you know if they have anything in stock

    RIP Ozbargain

    Hello OzRRP

    • +5

      Name checks out. :P

Good luck getting a cheap deal on these right now.

    • +1

RRP is a bargain at this point. The market value of the switch is much higher than the rrp

  • +2

How is price gouging considered a deal ?? this and the hand sanitiser is turning this place to shit

    • +4

I'd rather buy at RRP than giving money to scalpers, but this is definitely not a bargain.

  • +4

RRP is not a bargain. As for previous deals, "bargains" at RRP get neg'ed.

  • JB Hifi showing they have stock in Vic. Hoping Adelaide gets some stock in the next few days.

  • +4

When did this site become ozRRP.com.au?

  • +3

This is RRP (actually even above RRP) and hence not a bargain.

    • It isn't above rrp. ($469.95)

Technically it is a massive 95c off.

  • +3

Something in short supply does not make it a bargain. They are still making these consoles. They are not rare or collectible.

Are these the new things the hoarders have moved onto? Out of toilet paper, hand sanitiser and isopropyl… let's move onto the Switch. It's just a (fropanity) expensive Animal Crossing terminal…

Neg because this is not OzRRP/OzGouge.

  • +4

This is RRP so it's not a bargain. I bought my Switch on launch day for this price.

  • +1

Sooo, when I got one with Mario kart and a ringfit for like $460 around Xmas I did well?

    • Dollar has dropped and they are hard to get stock of now so yeah you did ok. Could sell it for more than you paid.

  • +1

    LOL

  • +4

Back in stock online. I just managed to order one for delivery. I’m in Brisbane and none of the local stores have it in stock for click and collect according to the website.

    • bought one too!! hopefully they have stock and not cancel our orders..

      • +1

Fingers crossed! I just made my husband drive an hour each way last night to pick up a second hand one for our daughters birthday in 2 weeks as I was told there was no stock until June…..and then this happens 🤦🏻‍♀️

        • Ah to be a husband (aka slave).

        • ordered confirmed, but aus post seems to have problems (its still stuck in the warehouse in sydney :(
          what about you guys?

    • +1

Just ordered one also for delivery, wanted one for a while. Might be fun to take to work with me !

    • +1

Just got my shipping confirmation so it’s on it’s way 🙌

  • +1

Also ordered one for delivery. Fingers crossed.

  • Its available for order again….delivery expected 24th April.

Once you receive…is it possible to get a price match done?

  • Has anyone who placed an online order receive an email confirmation?

    • Got one when I ordered, but still waiting on the email when it ships.

      • +1

Yeah me too, got the first email "Order Acknowledgement" when I ordered but awaiting the order confirmation and shipping one.

        • Yeah might be a few days til we get a shipping email. They say that theyre quite busy etc. Website states to expect delivery by 23-24 April.

I had delivery set to my Auspost Parcel Locker, hopefully they do Parcel Locker.

  • shows unable to delivery, you cant even add to the cart

    • As above, most of us manage to squeeze in the order that window got the "Order Acknowledgement" email.

Not sure if it will actually ship as this had never been available for delivery in BigW. Someone many accidentally enabled the delivery option. Fingers cross.

  • +1

Even the pre-orders are being resold on eBay. Jesus.

    • crazy times

    • -4

Do you think it can go for $650? If so I am selling mine…. :)
