Mod 13/9 (copy paste of the report reply): For those reporting that RRP should be in the forum or similar, there is no such guideline. As always the community will decide if it's a good deal or not via the voting system and/or comments. In general, a deal can be good value or of interest without being discounted as such, whilst a deal can be discounted but still be of little interest or poor value. In any case it's up to members to decide. In relation to potential issues about the deal details, should the deal not go ahead as posted, or another issue that breaches guidelines, it will be removed at that time. Please use TWAM for other issues and keep comments respectful. Thanks

Mod 2 15/9: Mwave has now announced there will be a raffle to purchase (that's a new one). The main deal link has been updated and the deal post moved to forums. Please join the raffle should you be interested in purchasing and continue discussion in the comments below.

    literally not a bargain

  • +7

So much for FE not coming to Australia

    • +3

They said they changed their mind due to demand and people crying.

      • I've been told the NDA was around for a bit. Mwave stuck to it hard.

        • +1

Build hype with limited editions and exclusivity.

Sell cheaper competitively but build brand with inflated 2nd hand market.

Nike etc been on this shit for decades.

  • +5

Seems to be more appropriate as a forum post than a deal as you say OP

  • +12

No Bargain translated from RRP in USD…

  • +4

    wow it's actually at MSRP.

  • I thought Founders Edition won't be sold in Australia based on earlier reports (I guess it's not directly from nVidia). But this is great as we're waiting for the embargo to lift on the 16th of September and for the reviews to come out. Want to see how this cooling system impacts performance and noise compared to third party models. And more importantly, for those of us on higher-end air coolers, whether the air being pushed towards the CPU from the back of the card is cool enough that it will positively impact CPU temperatures (or negatively, as most are expecting).

    • Mwave got the exclusive. Unless your cpu is at borderline temps won't be impacting it too much from the gpu blowback. I'm more intrested in the water blocks that will be designed for this now

      • +5

Either way it's great that we have the FE option available. And if 3rd parties decide to over-price their 3000 series cards in Australia, we can jump on this one now.

        • +2

I'm in no rush. Bought a new exhaust instead 😅

        • Only problemis by the time you work out how much they've price jacked the 3rd party cards, this will be sold out

          • +3

@cille745: That's fine, we'll wait until it's in stock. It's not like I bought a RTX 2070 Super for $1050 around two months ago….. cries in RTX ON.

      • +1
        • Teased? You can buy it right now on Mwave lol

    • +2

Nvid changed their mind on the Fe selling here due to demand/social media posts complaining

  • +29

Yes, it's a new GPU and all that, but it's still RRP, so not a bargain. Should be in forums instead

    • +1

I like this neg, because it suggests where it should be.

    • Agree. Not a deal.

  • “First in basis”, online only or we need to be Mwave store physically and queue from 6:00?

    • isnt Mwave just a warehouse though

      • yes, but they have a big showroom and do cash sale.

        • i see, but i imagine at 11pm it'll be closed lol

  • I wonder if these will be hard to get on release? Will they sell out in a few minutes?

    • Probably faster than the Xiaomi today and mwave will probably crash

  • -3

Australian warranty ? I thought founder's edition were not coming to Australia?

    • +2

Nvidia changed their mind on launch it’s mwave exclusive… after I assume other retailers will get a shot too but that bit wasn’t clear…

Founders edition this time around really looks compelling compared to the AIB cards …

My bet is anyone who gets them will post them on eBay for a profit afterwards…

GeForce RTX 3080 (MSRP $1,139.00) and GeForce RTX 3090 (MSRP $2,429.00)

    So standard price?

    • Yes more so news that Nvidia changed their mind about Aus missing out on founders.

    • yep. then add another $20+ for postage..

Still not on par with USA pricing, but given the cost of some freight forwarders, at least it's not a total shafting.

As I stated above, as long as MWave don't pull that "available only with system purchase" crap that they did last time with Turing.

Shame Computer Alliance and Scorptec didn't score a chance either.

Remember folks…it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    • +2

      I was JUST considering this.

TBH think it would be pretty hard for the wife to countenance. She was not thrilled when I bought a $1200 soundbar, but we all love how it sounds.

This would literally be just for me…. yeh…. why tf am I tempted so hard by things I don't need?

      • +2

Its hidden in the casing, won't know anyway. Just need to hide the receipt…

        • You know women see things men don't! Know this with our mum's, they find out eventually!

Buy it and explain that you can't return it now lol

        • +2

I think she'll notice $1200 on the bank card unfortunately!

          God damn combined accounts!

    • nothing personal…it's just gaming

      • -2

Noo it's not just gaming, it's machine learning, cad, design hell everything at a affordable way.

        I ain't buying a titan.

Come on amd show us what you got, I mean Nvidia.

  • +19

So everyone ran around negging and hating on people posting the RTX 20xx cards for low prices because the 3000 series is just a few days away and what happens when that finally happens…. hurrrrr RRP not a deal.

    • I think a lot are also salty that this is becoming common knowledge

I imagine most people would've already found out from other sources anyway

      • The same happened with the last generation. I often get downvoted for pointing out such facts but hey they never learn.

    • +2

Just salty people who either had no plans to buy one or can't afford one.

  • +1

And here i am putting this as a reply on another card post instead of its own post…. didn’t know limited quantity rrp priced items were ozB deal posts or I’d posted it …. oh well you snooze you lose!

Mwaves site is gonna crash big time … should be fun to watch (for a retail IT person loll)

  • I live close by, wonder if I can visit the store and collect.

    Will contact them tomorrow.

    • +1

They have click n collect (which ive used) … If you get it and choose that option i dont see why it'd be an issue….

      • -1

Good point I'll just catch a train there, and buy one, try it out then sell it later

I'll just rock up with 2500 bucks, I'll just pay for what I use.

Waives to all the 2080ti owners hello

Thanks for the heads-up, time to start card hunting

US pricing for various AIB model RTX 3080s has been released. Even the very cheapest ones cost US$20-30 more than the Founder's Edition cards, and they have much cheaper, inferior coolers. Something fishy is going on… I suspect 3080 FE stock will be very limited and not many will be selling at RRP.

So at least for the time being (until AMD RX6000 announcement on 28/10) the FE 3080 will absolutely be the best value pick. I guess that makes it a deal?

    • We don't know if the cooler on the Fe is better or causes cpu problems yet.

      • Yeah that's why I never buy this stuff on launch. Prefer to see others test it out over a couple of months.

        • Review embargo lifts on the 16th, but at this point given the demand, you'd be best off getting one and holding onto it, as if you change your mind you'll be able to sell it easily for what you payed

    • Think eBay $99 airpods

    • +2

Some UK pricing also leaked a few days back with some models being up to 20 pound cheaper than FE. So it could easily go either way here.
That said, i assume all AIBs will be above RRP for the first while as with every release. So if anyone wants a 3000 series card soon, the FE at seemingly forced RRP is probably ones best chance/choice.

  • +14

NOOOOOOO, why did you tell them!! god there goes my chance

    • +2

You just said what every "muh OzRPP" negger is really thinking.

Expect prices to rise for a few months after release due to hype and demand. So even RRP could be considered pretty good compared to the rest of the market. Prices will probably have settled back down ~6 months later during the Q2 lull. Just speculation but the same thing happens every few years for various tech'.

If you're going to get one soon anyway I'd recommend pre-ordering, getting one on release, or as last resorts back-ordering at the same price.

    • Founders Edition cards sell out very quickly and they don't release any more. They will only appreciate over time. Until the RTX 4080 anyway.

      • True true, I was talking about cost and availability in general. And the long wait people will probably have before sane pricing.

Personally I've never cared about FE, but whatever floats your boat…

      • They will only appreciate over time. Until the RTX 4080 anyway

Wait for the RTX 5080 then

  • I cannot wait for benchmarks. I am so excited lol

This is shaping up to be such a massive generational leap. Like 4K gaming can easily be a thing now on AAA titles. Can't wait.

  • +5

If you're planning on getting one, there goes your slim chance of getting one now by posting on here, OP!

  • +2

    $2429 includes the laptop right?

  • need to buy an aircon to keep the card cool..

  • +5

OP out here shooting himself in the foot and getting hated for it, included by myself. R U OK?

      • +1

Might as well let the rest of RRP bargains folks fight it out while watching it with popcorn. :P

  • +4

Thanks for the heads up, now delete this post

  • would be happier with & 2100 or 2300 if the 1499 figure excludes US state taxes.

    • +3

US figures always exclude tax, as its different in every state.

      • Roger that. So 2300 plus whatever our strong warranty laws and smaller volume of sales demand.

        • +1

Freight, smaller market =smaller quantities.. Higher labour cost bla bla…. Easier just to blame it on Gerry Harvey Lolll

"Not sure if this belongs in the forums but here it is anyway." You already know

Did Apple purchase Nvidia by any chance?

    • Apple style marketing. Highly inflated RRP and then few months later slash it by around 50% or more to make it look like bargain when it's not. They sell at 3+ times the normal price initially. Not much competition with graphic cards unfortunately. Same thing with Coles and Woolies.

      • Which Apple or nvidia products drop by 50%?

        • Not 50% but close and thats big reduction all of sudden. Same will happen with RTX 3090 FE selling @ $2429 now. Apple is greedy and doesn't do much discounts.

          • @alphaoasis: To be fair, RTX 2080 came out in Sep 2018. The price you quoted is 2 years later.

    • And suddenly change their business model to cutting edge gaming products?

  • RIP mwave's website come 11pm Thursday

  • How do you know if this fit my case and board?
    I have the inWin 301 + AB350M Pro 4 which states:
VGA Card Length: 310mm (Height: 162mm)
VGA Card Length (With Front Fan + Radiator 35mm): 265mm

    3080 FE Specs are:
    Length 11.2" (285 mm)
    Width 4.4" (112 mm)
    Height 2-Slot

Would the 3080 FE fit my system?

    • If no front AIO/radiator installed, it should be fine.

    • You tell us.

Do a measurement & should should have an idea

  • +3

Albeit not exactly the same card
BHP Photo Video has the following variants of 3080 up on their website
    Zotac Trinity - $720 USD
    Gigabyte Eagle -$730 USD
    Gigabyte Gaming OC -$750 USD
    Asus Tuf - $780, Tuf overclock - $800 USD
    MSI Ventus 3x - $878 USD

Shipping varies slightly, from ~$30 to $40USD via DHL Express
With paypal conversion you'd be looking at prices of $53.28 AUD for shipping (Using $40 USD)
    Zotac Trinity - $959.05 + $53.28 = $1012.33
    Gigabyte Eagle -$972.37 + $53.28 = $1025.65
    Gigabyte Gaming OC -$999 + $53.28 = $1052.28
    Asus Tuf/Tuf OC - $1038.97/ $1065.60 +$53.28 = $1092.25/$1118.89
    MSI Ventus 3x - $1169.5 + $53.28 = $1222.78

Four of which will be cheaper than this current deal. Note that I used the higher value for shipping and current paypal conversion rates which may vary slightly.
