  • Must visit Maldives atleast once in life.

  • +1

With the Sydney rent prices this sounds like a real bargain :D

  • +1

Must visit Maldives atleast once in life. Been there in 2011 best damn time of my life.

  • If it wasn't for our dogs I would actually seriously consider this. have spent the last 8 months working from home already and a few others I work with have rented places on the coast to work from, gotten used to doing workshops and presentations over teams now and all the technical work never really needed me to be there in person even before the pandemic.

  • Does anyone know what the WiFi is like there?

    • +2

      They use coconut routers

      • +2

        very stable 2G connection i hear….

So they used NBN architecture it seems

  • If your a full time blogger can you tax deduct this. It's essentially what you do for work

  • Nice deal OP..
Leisure centre looks a bit basic but what a beautiful location!

Maldives is the closest I've been to heaven on earth..
The fish market on Malé (capital city) doesn't even smell fishy and the quality of fish on offer is superb.

  • +1

Good deal, but even paradise can get boring without people and activities at least a couple of times a week. I hear some people book a yearly cruise package (back in the days pre- covid19) which can even be much cheaper and you get all meals paid for too not to mention nightly entertainment (although that would get boring being repeated)

    • +2

horses for courses, I don't get bored easily or lonely and don't need other people. My wife would happily paint for a year while I read books and swam between working online. Even being stuck at home for the last 8 months hasn't bothered me in the slightest so being stuck in such a beautiful location would be no problem for us. I love cruises too, I don't get bored on them either however the intermittent appalling internet connectivity makes it non viable as a work location.

  • if that could be sharing.. it may be a good deal…
I mean 1 Feb - 20 Feb, I live there then someone comes in from 21 Feb - 1 Mar and continue…, you know what I mean, if you still dont get it, I meant "groupon"
whoever wants in just pay $200 per day and book your dates.

I have stayed here on a over water bungalow for our honeymoon for 6 nights. It was $4500USD including boat transfer. Around $6K AUD.
Breakfast included, plus the offer we had was inclusive dinner (half board). It was good value at the time for Maldives. Alcohol & water was extra. We BYO bottled water from Aust.
Seeing this deal at $112/ night over 365 days is a steal. I would seriously consider it!
The breakfast and dinner was amazing. The dinner at the couple island is a alternating theme. We did not eat lunch at all. Perhaps a fruit and drink during the day to get by.

There is a main resort island, with infinity pool, bar, beach volley ball, and the main accommodation bures which is for families.
The 2nd island is a 1 min free boat ride away. It runs all day every 15 mins. It's actually quite lovely experience catching this boat everyday to visit the main resort island.
The 2nd island is for couples only, and is where all the overwater bungalows are, which is the main feature. You can just step out of your door and into the crystal water, anytime you want. Sometimes you see a turtle nearby, sometimes a reef shark, or perhaps Nemo and their friends.

Its very clean, water and views are amazing. Coral and fish species were beautiful. Every single day looked the same, as beautiful as the previous. I have never seen a place that matches or outperforms its own postcard. It was truly picturesque.

    The bad points:
    - The WIFI was crap at the time. Enough to do light browsing. It is not time restricted. But it's so slow, around 5mbps I reckon. I would have thought they are so close to several potential fibre cable networks in the deep sea, their internet could drastically improve.
    - TV was also crap. Could not even get a clear signal for the Australian Open Men's final. The TV was still using analogue signal! I had to catch a boat 1 min ride across to the other Anantara island and head to the "bar" to watch the tennis.
    - You cannot bring any alcohol into the country, even if its Duty Free. It must stay at the airport. or dump it. We learnt the hard way. And buying alcohol at the resort is rather expensive. You can't win if you want to enjoy drinking.
    - Water is expensive. We knew this before coming so we brought our own with us.
    - There is very little to do. You have to get creative after 3 days, or just switch yourself to "rest mode". After paying over $1K a night to be at this place, you start to realise playing with hermit crabs has become your most expensive vacation pet, and you can't even eat it.
    - Eventually you get bored of being in such a lovely blissful place. You'll become bored because we are so used to civilisation world, with entertainment, Netflix, Youtube, cafes, loud night life, unlimited food choices, street foods and markets etc. that you would get back at home or urban type holiday. But if you give all that up and take a step back, pick up a book, find a hammock, relax and just take in the beautiful scenery from dream someone has put to reality, it is worth giving this place a visit, even for 365 days.

I don't spose those BYO water bottles could be filled with Vodka or Gin, could they?

      • You could try if you dare! Perhaps they have another "Male Hilton" as some call the holes if you disobey.

      Half of Australia: Yeah nahhhh

    • haha flashbacks… I had my honeymoon in the Maldives and had read that bottled water was US$5 for 300ml etc etc.
We took our own water there, but our resort had FREE water lol

    30 Days visa for australians.
Good luck extending. You may have to leave Maldives and then come back.
    30 x 12 flights to ? = $$$

    Wilson

    • I'm also curious about the visa just don't flight every month just for the visa

  • +1

Includes breakfasts. Lunch and Dinner is gonna kill you.

    • stock up at breakfast

  • How many of them available?

  • +1

imagine paying 41k a year rent for amazing exotic Maldives over-water bungalow with free brakfasts…
now imagine paying 30k a year rent to live in a shithole australia 3bedroom over-crowded suburb
    what a brutal contrast

    • +1

If you want something as remote as Maldives in Australia for dirt cheap, you can do it.

      • +1

Nah, Tassie is quite expensive these days.

  • So y'all are rich rich.

Is the internet better than NBN?

    • +2

implying that NBN is good in the first place…

  • +3

Has anyone actually contacted the report to find out if you can stay the entire time (Assuming visa is sorted)?

  • Of course to make the most use would mean staying in the wet season too.

  • Looks better than most of the dives I’ve been in

Pay for the year , and on day 365 , do a Trump , and refuse to leave.

    • Pay for the year , and on day 365

      It's not for 365 days.

valid for stays from 1 January 2021 to 23 December 2021 and it is non-extendable.

    • Even better do an israel…..i'll stop there.

  • If this can be shared with 4x groups then it's an absolute bargain for 3 month blocks?!

    • I'm in! Let me know if you decide to go ahead.

      • I know right, if it's 4x groups of 2 people so basically $10k for a couple if you go two times a year you are already winning …

I dont know what type of activities they have, like boat/yacht hire to go snorkeling/diving — and if it would be safe if just 2 people went???

        • Should work if you share the same name:

"The names of both guests must be provided at the time of payment and are not able to be changed.
Only these two named guests will be allowed to stay in the bungalow."

  • Cheapest Aussie wine?

  • why is this deal? so popular?

    • Don't see the bargain? Possible wfh and claim tax break? What is not to like?

      * above statement may have been made in jest for comedic relief.

  • +1

Damn, $7us for soft drink and $9us for a bottle of water

  • Good deal for someone can work from home the whole year.

  • Damn I'm just short about $35000

  • Went to Maldives for 3 weeks few years ago for honeymoon and i didn't know there could be too much of a good thing! Started missing home at the end and ready to go home. Absolute paradise though. Crazy how beautiful it is. Damn i miss it now.
