item in stock means its a bargain?

    • +21

      nope…

    • +43

compared to being price gouged… yes

      • +4

Are you Dagogo or just a fan?

Edit: I’m replying to cold fusion above

        • Didn't know who he was

Are you Dagogo or just a fan?

          Fan of Pons & Fleischmann

      • +20

        Or you could just wait?
It's not the end of the world if people don't have the latest playstation, xbox or graphics card.
Unless everyone is a twitch/youtube streamer now?

        • +2

It's called consumerism (conditioned from a young age).

        • +10

Waiting won't kill you? Whoa, hot take. 99+% of things won't end the world if we don't get them now. Do you complain when there is a deal on a new TV because it'll be cheaper next year when there is a newer model?

        • +4

Hey, how do you get up votes for this but when I say the same thing for stupid nvidia cards I get 10 down votes in a Min…..
And those are even price gauged to the eye balls but ppl still lap it up and pay for it…. Interesting indeed

      • +3

You don't have to buy from scalpers. This is not an item essential for sustaining life.

        • +1

Neither is a lot of the stuff, posted on ozbargain… What's your point? lol

          • @Filster83: The point (LOL) is that (LOL) some muppets are seemingly prepared to pay (LOL) 1.2x to 1.5x the RRP (LOL) for a commodity consumer electronics item.

            • @[Deactivated]: Right now, I have a mental image of someone with tourettes speaking like this and screaming LOL at the top of their lungs.

              • @Charlie Sierra: Valid.

'LOL' is cringeworthy shorthand for "I put zero effort into this reply, so I tack on LOL as some sort of pissweak attempt to shield me from constructive challenge"

    • +12

Good insurance against mugging on way back to car

      • +8

Nothing says "please don't mug me" better than a bright yellow bag from a well known electronics store..

        • +3

You have to ask for the white anti-mug bags out back.

      • +7

        Especially in Broadmeadows.
I would have taken an Uber from the front door of JB to my car.

        • +3

The uber driver is probably from Broady, so you're farked either way

      • +5

I bought a Series S and walked to the car with no plastic bag the other week. If a mugger came up to me then they'd probably say they feel sorry for me and walk away.

  • +1

Got one at EB Games Knox on Saturday. Few in stock then.

  • +9

Your receipt says that it was a preorder.

I wonder if these were stock which were originally preordered by customers and set away for them but they ended up cancelling the orders. Looks highly likely which is why this stock was even there in store.

    • Most probably. Not much demand for Xbox Series X compared to PS5. But, PS5 is the one has more hardware issues, yet you can't find one in the market. :)

      • +4

Hardware issues? Please explain. That's bull shit. The 1%s are the only ones whinging. 99% of us have had no issues

        • +3

Sample size too small to substantiate either statement.

        • I was reading it in the Whirlpool forum. After reading it though, It felt like we should handle it like a product that is still in beta. But, as you said, it might be a small about of devices that are having trouble.

        • +1

1% is quite a high number to have big issues with new hardware though TBH.

          • +2

            @Variableaperture: ????

Phones on average have a 3-12% failure rate

            Here is Gen 7

            Wii: 2.7 - 6.8%

            PS3: 10.6%

            Xbox 360: 23.7 - 54.2%

1% is bloody amazing! (If it is that statistic but its too early not even a month after launch yet)

It may seem like alot because of supply and demand issue - phones probably not as much even though they have higher failure rates but can be countered by taking your phone in and replacing it same day (i.e apple store) where as with Sony or Microsoft its a long process especially at launch so alot more people are going to voice it online

            https://www.androidauthority.com/phone-models-repair-report-…

            Here is a good article

            https://www.codecmoments.com/console-failure-rates-should-we…

Should this new information affect your decision on whether to go for one of the new consoles? No. A hardware failure could happen at any point, with some estimates saying at least 15% will die within the first two years, which from personal experience I’ve had with the PS2 and the PS3, but most of us early adopters have seen the same. The joy is always in the new technology and the new experiences they bring with them, and we should focus on the positive side – there are nearly 2 million people out there with working machines having fun, and I can’t wait to join them.

            • @Bootyborne: i am sure your figures are not after 1 month so not really a comparison.

            • +1

@Bootyborne: Yeah, but if 1% of their consoles are failing within the first month that denotes a larger issue. Because after 2 years the failure rate would be extremely high.

        • +1

I've seen tons of videos online with all different types of issues ranging from the disk drive, games crashing, console getting bricked and GPU artifacting just to name a few.

      • +3

Lol all the fan boy negs you got from a simple statement

      • -5

Gave you an upvote. Kids are so precious these days. The series X is crap compared to ps5.

Even business insider and Forbes is reporting the series X is a flop compared to PS5. The duelsense controller is hard to beat!

        • Lol how can they call it a flop when it’s sold out around the world ?

And if the controller is your main argument on a consoles success….

          • -3

@Danstar: As all the reports are saying for business. Selling out doesn't mean popularity or demand, it means supply.

Supply shortages is also a representation of the company.

Company A could make 20 million units and Sell out. Whilst company B could make only 6 million and sell out. Doesn't mean Company B is popular, they fell short of Supply and demand could only be 9 million units whilst Company A could have a demand of 100 million units.

To keep it short, Microsoft needs to flood the market with consoles because people who missed out on the PS5 would be inclined to buy them. But once Sony catches up the Xbox series X will fill the shelves as they won't sell as well due to the ps5 being the better console.

            • @[Deactivated]: I’m not denying the PS5 will sell more compared to the X. But that doesn’t define the series x being a flop….

              • +1

@Danstar: The ratio of ps5 to Xbox sold is quite large in some markets at the moment like UK and Japan.

                • @[Deactivated]: Again, no one is saying otherwise. Has been the case for basically every generation of consoles. But Xbox is far from flop. Most people just stick to Sony cos that’s what they had since the beginning (ps1/ps2)or their favourite reason “ eXcLuSiVes”

        • Being a Console Warrior/Console Fanboi (or Apple, Star Wars, etc) is a pretty silly use of anyone's time. None of these large multinational companies are your friends, and they don't need your help in defending their honour.

Whatever the stripe of blind fanboism, it just makes the individual look childish and more than a little insecure about their purchase/intended purchase/multinational best buddy of choice. Not a good look.

          • @Scipio: I'm loyal to no company. I go where the good products are. So far that's Xiaomi and Huawei phones and Ps5.

  • +2

Thanks OP great work, saved me from getting price gouged.

    • +8

You were seriously go to pay a scalper? If so, you are part of the problem, mate.

      • What is my other option if I want one right now?

        • +9

          OzDJ_'s comment isn't wrong lol.
Because you want one right now = go to scalper = part of the problem.

          • +1

@Blitzfx: Agreed the comment isn't wrong. It's called supply and demand. I've never complained about "the problem", if I want something then I buy it for whatever is the cheapest price at the time. That's why I thanked OP for saving me some money, it's a bargain from my POV.

            • +2

@MeagerDollarBucks: Oh the conversation was about the problem, but I didn't realize you were steering the conversation to 'how else do i pick one up + I don't care about price'.

Btw, I didn't have any issue with people thinking this is a bargain right now, considering the circumstances.

        • Easy, learn to be patient and wait for when PS5 get back in stock.
Viola you just got a PS5 by waiting a mere month!

They are obviously starting to sell cancelled preorder stock in time for Christmas. It must have just taken a little while to arrive to the stores from the main warehouse.

  • +18

Can someone please explain to me the hype about the next gen consoles? This an honest question as I cannot understand the fuss people make about getting these asap or even or the drama some made for missing out on the pre orders. Just like this "deal" there have been no deals, yet. There a no launch titles or next gen exclusive titles, yet.
As far as I am aware there is not even any updated last/current gen games available.
I have a XBOX one X and will be looking at updating some time next year as soon as stock availability improves and actual deals hopefully start to pop up. But at the moment I don't really see what I would be missing out on. Again just curious, not tryin to troll anoyne.

    • +9

One next gen console is the same price as a mid tier graphics card.

      • +3

I understand that. But if I bought a 3080 (or better said if I was able to get a 3080 LOL) I can see a huge improvement straight away, as there are plenty of games supporting RTX and depending on my current Card I get much better graphics. Updating to the Xbox series X now, without any exclusive titles or titles specially enhanced for the new consoles- what it my advantage compared to sticking with my xbox one x ?

        • +8

Not everyone cares for PC gaming. I certainly don't want to sit in front of computer to play games after looking at work laptop all day long.
Also, not everyone wants that ongoing expenses associated with upgrading PC and monitors. Been there, done that when I was much younger.

I much prefer to buy a console, plug it in and start playing in my lounge on big screen TV.

          • +12

@dji1111111: I never said that and I never started with the PC argument (BTW I have and use both and both have their pros and cons) . My question was and still remains: What (besides my ego) is a reason to update to next Gen right now at RRP?

            • +2

@BlueDiesel: Personally, once I get a PS5 (disk ver) I'm going to sell my PS4 Pro before it drops much more in value. That way I can play most, if not all of my current PS4 games both disk and digital, with the ability to play new-gen games too.

            • @BlueDiesel: Well your comment was muddled because you mentioned upgrade of graphics card.
As to xbox one x vs series x, some games did receive enhancements. New Gen games are still coming so I guess there is no reason to pay ridiculous price if you can't get hold of one at RRP. Having said that, things like super fast loading time, improved frame rate, less noise are all things that make it much more pleasant to use.
The other argument is waiting until next year won't mean you will get one for less money anyway so why wait to upgrade if you can get one at RRP? Value of second hand One X will continue to fall also in that time

              • +1

@dji1111111: In my OP I did not mention graphic cards or computer once ;-) The first reply was about graphic cards.

The falling resale value of the ONE X actually is a pretty good point. But unless it works like with EB games where I can hand in my old console the day I get my new one I rather don't "risk" it. Especially with school holidays coming up and no need for any teenager dramas due to the lack of any console at all (though I a handful of PS3 we could probably bring back into service in case of emergency LOL)!

            • @BlueDiesel: People who were looking for something to do with their christmas holidays?

          • +3

@dji1111111: ongoing expense? So a subscription to play online isn't an ongoing expense?

          • @dji1111111: You can plug your PC in the tv too, I used to do that ages ago, but I agree, consoles are far more convenient

        • +4

I just built a new pc but still using the old gpu in part of the ludicrous supply shortage and I can still get through my backlog.

There is a lot of fiddling around to get the pc working. With the console it is essentially plug and play. The new SSDs make things almost instantaneous as well.

I do agree regarding the new games. Only one I can think of is Spider-man Miles Morales.

          • +3

@Caped Baldy: I have been waiting to get a 3080 for my computer but gave up on black Friday when I found a good deal on RX5700XT. Personally I do not agree too much with this whole console vs pc crap. I have both and I enjoy both.

        • +5

There are games that are specifically enhanced for new consoles tho.

And every game will run better and smoother. Even without patches, any game with unstable framerate will run at locked 30/60fps.

Also the SSD makes loading times so much faster. Plus instant switching between multiple games at once.

And then also its $750 for the whole thing and not $1300 just for a GPU jump.

          • +2

@ScruffTheJanitor: That is the kind of proper answer I was looking for, thank you. Also as stated before I never started bringing PC into the discussion.

            • +2

@BlueDiesel: I picked up a Series X purely because of EB Games trade-in deal, otherwise I would have waited.

I know I could have received more for my old Xbox One X selling privately, but I've had my fill of low-ballers and timewasters on Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace recently.

I have noticed graphical enhancements on some games not specifically updated for the Series X, like Battlefront 2, and suspect they're set to use the best options supported by the console, or using the HDR enhancement.

Something I am also appreciating is the reduced loading time from the SSD.

I would not say it is an essential purchase, but since I would have upgraded next year I don't regret the price I paid.

I also picked up a PS5, which was more due to a conversation with my wife where I suggest that we could get a PS4 for cheap and she was of the opinion we may as well get the latest. That will allow me to catch up on the PS4 exclusives that I missed, and more of my son's school friends are on Playstation rather than Xbox. It is put away waiting for Christmas.

              • +1

@Xenocaust: Pretty much sums me up.

It's a better user experience first and foremost - much more response and quicker to launch games.
Auto HDR on backwards compatible stuff is great (Titanfall 2 I'm looking at you which looks sweet on the XSX.. TRY IT)
Quick resume is nice when a game supports it/works.
The optimised games are ok, typically atm it's just frame rate bumps (great) and perhaps some slight graphics tweaks but nothing earth shattering.

Looking forward to dedicated games which is the main sore point for me on the XSX.
It kinda doesn't have an exciting feel when you boot it up.. you are just basically where you were at with your One X. Same UI, same games (besides a slightly animated desktop background). Pretty much same controller. Feels a bit like when you upgrade your PC - but are playing the same games :)

The nice trade in deal from EB for my One X sealed the deal.

If you aren't in a hurry to upgrade the One X is more than serviceable for now.

      • +2

        6 . Bragging: feels good

      • But all these should be invalid arguments for any true Ozbargainer!! A true Ozbargainer never pays RRP and especially not out of FOMO

        • +2

"No true Scotsman" = logical fallacy.
Regardless of the supposed "RRP", the actual street price one must pay to obtain a good is the actual marginal cost of that good.
A true ozbargain is when the consumer is able to acquire the good at below the price level of the actual marginal cost for that good.
It doesn't matter what good it is. It doesn't matter who the consumer is or why they want to buy it.
All that matters is the mathematics.
In my area, the actual marginal cost for an xbox series x is currently $900.
Therefore, if one can purchase one for $750, regardless of some hypothetical "RRP", it is a genuine bargain and should be upvoted.

        • A true Ozbargainer never pays RRP

Really even with deals that sell on market 2 times like PS5 and other stuff out there that can go 4-6 times RRP at issue .

The earlier you upgrade, the more money you'll likely get when selling or trading in your current hardware.

To look at it another way, whats the point in waiting? This gen all your old games and accessories carry over, you likely don't spend much more if you're going to buy within the first 4 - 6 months anyway, you get to enjoy the console in the mean time including getting more out of games you are playing now. As before, if you resell your current hardware you'll likely get more now than in 6 months time especially given your old hardwares not doing anything that the new one can't this gen.

The only major slight against buying early is if theres hardware issues, but those can take years to iron out if they exist (x360 took multiple hardware iterations over 2 - 3 years) and you're covered by warranty anyway. Otherwise if you can get the hardware, why not.
