40,000 $200 Regional Travel Rebates on $400 Travel Spend Available to Victorians

6136

From Friday at 10am, the Victorian government is offering 40,000 Victorians $200 'vouchers' to travel within Victoria between December 12 and January 22 as a stimulus for the tourism industry.

You have to spend over $400 on one of the following categories to get the $200 back:
- accommodation
- tours
- local attractions

Exclusions are gaming, alcohol (except if alcohol is included in wine/brewery/distillery tasting type tour but excludes any alcohol purchased and consumed outside of the experience), fuel, food and drinks (except where packaged with an eligible expense such as a winery tour), groceries, personal items such as clothing and accessories, transport costs (rental vehicles, train and bus tickets).

It's really a reimbursement from the government though – travellers have to apply for the voucher, pay for the travel upfront and then receive a reimbursement from the government.

Still, $200 back on your trip is still $200 back!

Another 40,000 vouchers will be available on January 20, and may be redeemed for travel from January 27 to April 1, and the final batch of vouchers will be released on March 30 for use from April 6 to May 31.

Update: An extra 30,000 regional tourism vouchers will be made available to Victorians at 12PM today. Sold Out

Round 2: 40,000 vouchers will be released from 20 January 2021, 10.00am for travel between 27 January 2021 to 1 April 2021. Sold Out

Round 3: 30 March 2021, 10.00am, for travel between 6 April 2021 to 31 May 2021

        • True - but you'd still want to put your name.

Even though they technically can't "match" it and you'd still receive the money no matter what you put, you're not gonna want to put "ABBA" or "The Beatles" now would you?

          • +1

@proudwanderer: I put Ozbargain. I received the money the next day. Try it.

            • +1

@spedohero: Jokes aside …. @kikodesu - just put your name, or whatever you have as the name of your bank account.

              • @proudwanderer: Yeah i was being a bit facetious but you don't have to be exact about matching your bank account name or worry about using initials or whatnot.

        • For what it's worth, turns out I misread the question and filled out the name of my bank, instead of my own full name (it's a personal bank account), still got paid properly.

  • If you manage to get this application in, they don't dilly dally too much, I got paid within two weeks of putting in the final application.

  • Has anyone booked 2x 1 night separately instead of consecutive and received the $200?

OK sorry - just checked FAQ and they have this "Recipients must stay a minimum of 2 consecutive nights in regional Victoria in paid accommodation."

  • Looks like it’s being done through Service Victoria this time.

  • Planning to travel in May, if I book now, can I claim later as part of the last round of vouchers - to be released in 30-March?

    • No. You’ll have to wait and apply in the last round.

These travel vouchers apply to the period of 27 January to 1 April 2021.

      • Why not? I thought you can claim against an existing booking. Again, I am referring to the last round of vouchers: “the final batch of vouchers will be released on March 30 for use from April 6 to May 31“

        • Because the application opened today is only for travel between 27 January to 1 April 2021. If you are travelling outside of that, which you are, then there's no point applying as you're not eligible. When the last round goes live, you apply then as those dates will be covered in your travel.

          • @Rupture: I don’t intend to claim now - I mean can I book the May travel now and then claim on the 30th of March? I assume that’s a yes?

            • @alteclan: Yes. Book now, or any time. Register for the voucher on 30th March. Travel in May. After travelling claim the $200 during the claim period.

  • Can people, who were successful in the first round, apply again?

*EDIT: I found the answer myself - you can't apply again.

    • Only once per household too.

    • -5

Use another name and address .

      • +3

I know there's ozbargain "hacks" to get good deals, but this really is against the spirit of the whole scheme. There's businesses going broke, and people doing it really tough financially due to COVID.

There's a time for squeezing the system, but this isn't one of them. Don't be one of those people who illegally gains from COVID - that behaviour is up there with those that price goughed on hand sanitiser and N95 masks.

All long weekends or public holiday dates are excluded, just in case someone didn't notice.

    • +1

Where does it say this? I couldn't find anything in the FAQs.

  • Do we need to sign in or register? Don’t want to fuss around logging in and miss out

    • Registration is part of the application process

  • -8

We got the 1st round already but planning to do a second trip. Are we eligible to apply for the 2nd round?

    • If one of the you has a different name and address .

    • +7

Yes the whole State of Victoria owes you for the lockdown…grow up.

      • He did what had to be done and I'm thankful we're at the point we are now… just a shame that his governments handling of the hotel quarantine program forced a prolonged 2nd lockdown that caused significant financial and mental problems that are still being dealt with across the broader community.

  • success!! got one! thx!

  • Got mine

  • +2

What a breeze, done in 2 mins, they must have made all the improvements between round 1 and 2.

  • Cheers OP. Got one.

  • +2

Successfully registered just now. No email yet but assume that will come. Was super smooth.

    • Email came through 4 minutes after application

  • -6

    Cheers Chairman Dan

  • Got em! Silky Smooth!

    • got the email in 15mins after submitting the application.

  • Got one this time. Time to book holidays!

  • -2

Can people, who were successful in the first round but unable to travel and hence won't claim in round 1, apply again for round 2?
Edit: downvotes for a genuine question? Thank you

    • Because it's one of the questions on FAQ page?

I have received a travel voucher, but I can no longer take (or wish to take) my trip. Can I relinquish my voucher? What does this mean?
Yes, you can relinquish your voucher. If you decide to cancel your booking and relinquish your voucher prior to making a claim, you will be eligible to reapply for a voucher in the next round on a first come first served basis.

      • My apologies for taking too much time from fellow bargainers.
I thank you for your apt and informative reply. I could not find that in the FAQs. All I did find was if only 1 voucher per household.
However, using your reply I was able to confirm the answer you presented is indeed mentioned there. I appreciate it. Have a good day

    broken again!

    • -1

      Nope, working fine for me.

    • worked off my mobile maybe it's my browser.

  • Excellent! Last time I missed it. Thanks OP!

  • I can't my search my home address. By entering manually , it doesn't accept my invitation. :-(

    • I also had to enter my address manually but I think I got a voucher.

  • +3

WTF??? ALLOCATION EXHAUSTED in 14 mins?

    • -1

yep same. i think maybe a bot got the better of us.

      • +2

Seems rather impossible that 40,000 vouchers are dished out in 14 minutes

      • How? You need a valid drivers licence.

  • apparently all gone now

  • +1

Thanks op. Got one a few minutes ago. But no confirmation email so far….

    • Same here

      • Got it now

    • I received the confirmation email just now, which is around 20min after I finished the application.

    • Can you share what do you need to fill in the application form? Just name, license number, phone number, email etc? Do you need to have the travel dates ready? Thanks

      • The form only asks for contact details and drivers license no. It doesn't ask for travel dates.

        • Thank you. Glad to know it is not too hard to apply this round.

  • I got accomodation booked for the 24th to the 27th, im guessing im not eligible?

    • Not to my reading - minimum 2 nights during the eligible travel period from 27 January 2021 to 1 April 2021 :(

  • Missed again. Gees

  • Does anyone know if you can claim it on accommodation only?

or does it have to be a combination of accommodation, tours and attraction entry fees? Thanks

  • How do you claim the cash-back.
I applied for first round successfully and have returned from my travel.
But received no information about how to claim?

In the email it only says
"You can redeem your voucher between 4 January and 5 February 2021. We’ll be in touch in a few weeks with instructions on how to submit your claim."

  • For those who missed out, set a reminder on OzBargain and your calendar for 30th of March. You'll receive reminders on or before the start date via OzBargain newsletter (if subscribed) & via site notification.

  • Can I claim two separate trips e.g. 2 nights in Feb and 2 nights in March?
Or I need to spend $400 on one trip only?

  • +1

How on earth are these all getting claimed so quickly? Tim Smith & the Vic Liberals sabotaging the program? Or are there really that many Victorian OzBargainers who leave the house for a rural trip?

    • This isn't an ozbargin thing tho. This was heavily advertised over all media.

    • This deal was on mainstream media so of course its getting a lot of action .

    • social media/ fb 40K isn't a lot. Though I guessing a lot of people being dodgy, claiming more.

  • yeww got one! was logged on at 10 to snag it.

  • Did anyone get confirmation email yet? I haven't so far although my application got lodged successfully.

    • +1

My email came through a few minutes after I was successful. Others are saying 20 minutes so hang tight

      • +1

        Thanks got mine as well!

  • Pretty ridiculous, 2nd time I've tried to claim this and it's been exhausted. Guess I'll just save then.

  • Managed to get one. Email arrived after 20 minutes or so.

  • Wonder if they will release another batch like last time. Just need drivers licence? Want to claim for others.

  • The extra 30k vouchers that are available from 12pm today in OPs edit is now crossed out. Earlier this morning this wasn't crossed out. Does this mean the extra vouchers won't be available at 12pm?

    • +1

I'm pretty sure that refers to the additional 30,000 vouchers released on 14th Dec 2020 12pm as the 'second set' for the first round, after the IT issues everyone was having when the first set of the first round's 40,000 vouchers released on 11th Dec 2020.

I think the voucher allocation is as follows:

      Round 1: 70,000 (40,000 + 30,000)
      Round 2: 40,000
      Round 3: 40,000

      • Gottcha. cheers.

  • Wanted to bring the families to brown brother winery and renting a nearby apartment/motel for 2 night accommodation .

Checking on the 2night stay and wine tour, both is considered eligible expenses right ?

Is there any nearby attractions that I should not miss ?

  • submitted by claim on 12/1 and still haven't been approved… anyone in the same boat? Is there a way to enquire them?

    • No reply for me yet either

      • I submitted mine last week - any ideas when to expect the cash in the account?
Just read a page before and it seems most people receive money in about 7-10 days so will just wait
        Thanks

  • Has anyone received the eligibility mail for round 2 following the initial mail confirming successful submission?

    • Not yet

    • I'm still waiting for the 'confirm your eligibility' email. Did yours end up coming through?

      • Okay mine just came through now.

  • Has anyone been able to make a claim for a tour purchased via Red Balloon (or other similar companies)?

    • +1

I don't think they are really going to read through all the receipts. Most likely they will just have some random audits and approve the majority straightaway after some waiting time, similar to how ATO processes your tax returns.

    • +1

Yes.. i was able to claim a Red Balloon purchase.. I uploaded the Tax Invoice from RB…

      • +1

Thanks! I've got an Amex offer so I'm taking advantage of that.

  • Still no confirmation email..

  • +1

I submitted my for’ on 18/1, still haven’t been paid…

    • Same here from 07/01
