40,000 $200 Regional Travel Rebates on $400 Travel Spend Available to Victorians

6136

From Friday at 10am, the Victorian government is offering 40,000 Victorians $200 'vouchers' to travel within Victoria between December 12 and January 22 as a stimulus for the tourism industry.

You have to spend over $400 on one of the following categories to get the $200 back:
- accommodation
- tours
- local attractions

Exclusions are gaming, alcohol (except if alcohol is included in wine/brewery/distillery tasting type tour but excludes any alcohol purchased and consumed outside of the experience), fuel, food and drinks (except where packaged with an eligible expense such as a winery tour), groceries, personal items such as clothing and accessories, transport costs (rental vehicles, train and bus tickets).

It's really a reimbursement from the government though – travellers have to apply for the voucher, pay for the travel upfront and then receive a reimbursement from the government.

Still, $200 back on your trip is still $200 back!

Another 40,000 vouchers will be available on January 20, and may be redeemed for travel from January 27 to April 1, and the final batch of vouchers will be released on March 30 for use from April 6 to May 31.

Update: An extra 30,000 regional tourism vouchers will be made available to Victorians at 12PM today. Sold Out

Round 2: 40,000 vouchers will be released from 20 January 2021, 10.00am for travel between 27 January 2021 to 1 April 2021. Sold Out

Round 3: 30 March 2021, 10.00am, for travel between 6 April 2021 to 31 May 2021

How is this a bargain when they are using your own money as tax payers for this.

    • Do you usually have this kind of access to money you have paid in taxes?

      • -1

"nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the [insert western country name] people"

    • So many salty tears lol

nice new website through services victoria instead of business victoria works a lot better

  • +1

Allocation exhausted while I was filling out the form :(

  • All gone, didn't get any sadly. :(

  • +1

    I am getting this:

    ALLOCATION EXHAUSTED
The allocation of 70,000 vouchers as part of Round 1 of the Regional Travel Voucher Scheme has now been exhausted.

Please try again when the next round opens at 10am on 20 January 2021.

Thank you for your interest and your continued support of regional Victoria.

    • In the email? Or website? I got through the website but no email yet. Only about 20 mins ago

      • I also didn't receive any email yet.

edit got it. it just take time to arrive

        • How long did it take? I've been waiting a few hours and nothing…

          • @tpopi: Probably about an hour. Check your spam folder. Did you put the correct email address?

  • Really wasn't worth it for round 1 in the end, accommendation is through the roof and all booked out. Only really helped out existing bookings that booked well in advanced.

    • -1

Just booked two nights in regional Victoria for $66 thank you very much.

    • +2

yeah so it was a nice for those, me included, who already booked and was gonna go regardless of the $200. Nice little bonus. Whilst those who the grant was aimed at, to incentivise them to go, there's nothing to book. Isn't that always the way? Job keepers, job seeker…

  • All accomodation is pretty much booked out. It doesn't make sense to give 70,000 vouchers out for a month and 2 week period. 70,000 people and their families going to regional victoria in a month and 2 week time period is crazy.

    • I guarantee you at least 20K of those vouchers from round 1 will go to the round 3 pool as people won't be able to book anything.

    • +1

Still plenty of options out there

      • Give us some examples, I feel stupid now that I got one in this round and everywhere I've checked is gone.

        • Check caravan parks. Use google maps instead of going to BIG4 etc

    • +1

Was able to book accommodation easily. Does depend of course on where you go and the dates you go.

      • Where to?

        • +2

Warrnambool and Halls Gap mid-week. Some dates and rooms were gone but if you’re flexible enough you’ll find something. Or perhaps pick towns with lots of accommodation within driving distance of places you want to go. For example, if Lakes Entrance is fully booked, choose Bairnsdale. Colac instead of Lorne.

  • Hoping someone can confirm - the minimum 2 night accommodation - can it be two separate 1 night accommodation on different days for example 23rd Dec and 4th Jan as long as total accommodation cost is more than $400?

    • +1

There are no conditions stating it has to be 1 trip or 1 place of accommodation only. They should accept 2 separate stays.

    • Your two nights' accommodation is required to be continuous according to the FAQs, and it can be on two separate paid accommodation in two separate LGAs.

  • thanks heaps OP. worked like a charm as of Monday early arvo

Re: two nights minimum – do you guys reckon I can get away with one night at my family's home + 1 night stay at a hotel?

    • Yes - if your family home can issue you an invoice, otherwise the only "evidence" you can provide is just 1 night at the hotel.

    • Might need some creative bookkeeping…

  • Anyone register to it but not receive the confirmation email? Is that means fail to register???

    • I havent gotten an email either, and neither has my sister…

      • I try to contact them and just let me wait for 2-3 business days and if still not receive any emails then call them again. I have check my spam and promotion mails, but nothing here till now.

  • Anyone receive any updates on how to submit a claim? 4th of Jan it opens they said

  • How do I submit my claim.
I got the your application has been successful email.
    But never any follow up.

    • +1

      Same.

      The email says:

You will be able to redeem your voucher between 4 January and 5 February 2021 after you have undertaken the eligible travel. We will be in touch closer to 4 January to provide you with information regarding how to submit your claim.

  • +4

    Just received the email:

To submit your claim please follow these steps:

Step 1. Use this unique link. Do not share this link as it is unique to your voucher and is not transferrable.

Step 2. When you click on this link it will direct you to set up a grants portal account

Step 3. Complete the claim form and upload the receipts and invoices that demonstrate your expenditure of more than $400

    Step 4. Submit your claim.

For further assistance please call the Business Victoria hotline on 13 22 15.

  • +1

no email here - we got ours in first round first batch.. inlaws got their email, but they signed up in the second round of the first batch.

  • No claim email here either. Guess I'll be calling tomorrow.

  • Nothing too….

  • +2

I called and was just told they are sending them out in batches and have no further details or even ETA. Just told to keep waiting and checking mail and junk folders :-(

    • +1

so they did not check using your email address or anything? simply just wait?

      • When i called earlier today, they mentioned that all mails should be sent out by Friday afternoon.

      • Nope. I got the impression it was being handled by some other team/department (organisation?) and the person on the phone had bugger all info to give.

  • No email yet. Bit of a joke really.
Not going to book unless i know they have this under control.

    • +1

It's been as efficient as the system for claiming the rebates in the first place i.e. total fuster cluck.

  • Got email with link to claiming the grant

  • Hey guys beware, these idiots have silently added the requirement of 2 continuous nights. If your plan does not allow that it might be good to book a $15 campground filler.

    • it was always 2 nights

      • It has never been 2 CONTINUOUS nights until very recently. You can check it out on wayback machine if you dont believe me.

    • Read T&C please

    • -3

Change date on invoice using photoshop, they will never know

      • Why would you wanna risk that when all you need is a $15 campsite?

  • I still have not received the email either :(

    • I spoke with them yesterday and they took my contact and postcode details, and i received the mail with link today.

Not sure if it is a coincidence, but you can try same

      • Thanks.. I ended up getting the email today.

  • I finally got mine today.

  • Got mine 7.15 this morning.

  • Anyone in the add on of 30.000 on the Monday has received the link to claim in the email?

    • Yes i got the email today. I was part of the add on 30k

    • I’m part of the 30K, received my email Thurs morning, and have already fired off the form receipts and all.

  • Received the email and just submitted the form.

Wow - what bureaucracy for a small travel grant!

Couldn't believe the need for a 13 digit password with upper case, lower case, numeral and symbol requirement.
And the way the form was presented and needed to be filled - I found it labourious.

Oh well, done now. Hopefully the $200 turns up.

  • Anyone know how long it’ll take to receive the $200 after submitting the form?

    • It said within 10 days.

  • -1

Just submitted it. Hopefully they won’t be cross checking and just pay the fund asap

  • Submitted my claim on the 4th, it's now the 14th and no sign of the refund……

    • Same. I submitted on the 5th - not even a whisper since then.

    • Just received an email saying claim was successful and $200 will be paid to my bank account

      • Money in the bank

  • Submitted my claim on the 7th and got a payment notification just now…

    • Got $200 in my account today!

  • Just received this email:

    Received the 200 today! Woohoo!

    Thanks Dan. (and also OP)

  • Can anyone please confirm if they've received voucher for staying at AirBNB

    • Yes

    • Yes, me too.

  • For the claim, when entering the Bank Account details, it asks for Bank Account Name - is this referring to the type of bank account eg. Super Saver Account or is it our full name listed on the bank statement? Thank you in advance!

    • +1

      It’s your name

    • Your name or business account name

      • You can put anything, they cannot match an account name. Only the BSB and a/c number matter.
