When they dumped the Xbox One App they sent me one of these things even though I hadn't been a customer in months.

Shame it's a POS that runs hot.

  • +2

Didn't work when I logged in with the old man's actual normal home Foxtel account (not that you said it would, just thought I'd check), but worked fine for me when I signed up for a 10 day trial as you said, should be delivered within 15 days. Let's see what happens.

    Cheers OP!

    • So no charge if we cancel within 10 days? No advanced notice required?

  • I activated the trial and am receiving 'Sorry, you are not eligible for this promo code.'

    • Yeah same, I have the free month via Telstra tho

      • You have to wait for 30 min for your account to be set up. I did mine and it worked.

  • -3

Funnily enough the offer isn't available to current customers who are pending deactivation. We got the full package for $25 for 3 months under a special promo. Price goes back up to $104 on the 26th - so I cancelled last week. Would have been good to have the box as the older Foxtel play app on our 2016ish Samsung likes to drop out after you swap channels a few times.

    • +3

Seems logic that if you cancel you don't need the box.

  • +13

Setup new account, 10 day trial, was eligible to receive the free box, ordered.

  • Cheers OP - just ordered - easy!!

I still have one month to go on the $25 p/m all access offer posted from April so this is a nice bonus.

  • Thanks OP! Awesome deal. Got one on the 10-day free trial.

    • Hello, so do you just sign up to trial and they will send you the box or do you have to go and claim the offer somewhere after signing up? Will probably continue sub if all is good..TIA

      • +1

Sign up first and then go to the link on this deal.

  • Started free trial and was charged $39

    • Straight away? They only debited $1 from my card but put it back straight away.

      • It was $1 and right after that $39. Then $1 charge removed

        • Can we cancel the subscription straight away?

        • +2

Im guessing you clicked the $39 for 3 month link which doesn't give a 10 day trial.

          • +1

@No: Going back on that link, I think that’s what happened. Still a good deal. I will just watch it for a month I guess

    • +2

Yeah I had a nightmare with Foxtel rethis. Didn’t get trial and got charged full amount. Contacted them and they wouldn’t fix it. Bunch of a holes.

  • +23

    F Foxtel.

  • Can I sign up with different email to normal Foxtel account for the trial, then once receive free box sign in with my normal Foxtel account?

Tried doing the offer with existing account to sign up and was not eligible

    • Yes, I am pretty sure you can use the box with any Foxtel account.

    • How did you go signing in with normal Foxtel account? I signed in with my new email account, logged out but only have option to sign in with password for new account.

      • Issue fixed, just had to hit back button to get to user id, delete and add normal Foxtel a/c login.

  • +1

Do you need an account for Foxtel to use the box?

    • +2

You need a foxtel account account but you dont have to be an active subscriber to use it

      • +2

        Perfect. Thank you.

  • +3

That was nice of Mr Murdoch to finally give out a feeebie! It's the least I deserve after watching 2 hours of ads everyday!

    • +8

Ha…not wrong. I was telling my young daughter about when we first got foxtel many many years ago it was because there were no ads…that was the appeal. Now it's flea ridden with ads.

      • +1

I moved to Fetch for PVR and skipping ads. There are still some promo ads on the main navigation menu similar to Android TV but I'll have to live with that for now.

    • +2

Record everything and fast forward through all the ads. Why would you subject yourself to ads when you don't have to?

  • Signed up for free trial and got the box , thanks OP. I wonder if I cancel free trial now will it stop them sending me the box?

    • +1

I did that (cancelled immediately after ordering), and it shows my service is still active until 19/6/2021, so hopefully won't impact the delivery.

  • +15

How is Foxtel still a thing?

    • +13

      Sports, unless you prefer Kayo.

      Also boomers.

      • +9

        Ah boomers…forgot about the boomers

      • +1

Well. Boomers are getting younger. I'm 27 and have it for mostly the TV shows and afl. That's all. $54 a month

    • +5

They have a virtual monopoly on sport.

  • How many gigabytes per hour does it use up on average?

    • I know Foxtel Go used to say it used about 1.4gb per hour for SD stuff, so that's a rough idea.

      • Thanks yeah would be mostly watching SD

        • I never actually checked or anything, I never really used it either. But that's what it always said, I think HD was around 3.6gb p/h but that I'm not as certain on.

If it did chew through that much, it's insane, Netflix seems to be about half that for SD content. https://www.makeuseof.com/how-much-data-does-netflix-use/

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: I watched it for 1hr50mins last night and it used 2.2gb. Watched a movie and think the movies are streamed in HD

      • That's right, I forgot how they charge extra for that new technology HD lol

They can f right off. I'm not giving them a cent

    • +1

That would depend on what you do with it in each hour.

      • 0gb/hour if it's in the garbage

  • Thanks, works with alternative emails that have not previously been used for trials.

Hopefully it ships before the 10 day free trial ends.

  • +5

    Thanks OP!

FYI all - if you don't have a working aerial you can still get streaming FTA channels working on the Foxtel Now Box (or any Android TV device) by following instructions from the same site: https://www.matthuisman.nz/2019/01/live-au-iptv-channels-on-…

  • +1

Amazing offer. Thanks OP. Activated 10 day free trial and got the box :D

  • +1

Worked with the free trial, thanks Murdoch.

  • "Hmm…we have had a problem processing your order. Please try again." :(

    • +1

had the same issue after i had just done the telstra trial. Waited about 5 minutes and it worked

      • +1

you're right… waited a bit longer and tried again… worked!
Must be some sync time between Telstra > Foxtel?

  • I had two of these. And they both died within a year. Never buying one again. I stick with my Vodafone TV.

The first one i bought was DOA but i got a replacement for it from Officeworks. Still didn't stop the replacement from dying within a year and the second one i got slightly later also died as i said.

    • +8

This is free, so get a 3rd one :)

      • if the price is right why not haha

  • +5

Nice, will not claim, might be helpful to other who need it. Gd luck

    • Respect Sir!

    • +1

These are garbage any way. And you don't actually need one of the Foxtel Now boxes to play Foxtel Now content on the TV. As Foxtel Now app is also available on other Android TV devices via the Play Store.

The only thing going for it is it's being given away for free. However it's got a highly modified version of Android TV on it. Is not stock Android TV. You might have some problems side loading apps on it.

      • +2

        Don't these have a Chromecast?

  • Now will they ship before the 10 day free trial ends?

The end message read it will take up to 15 days to process the order :|

    • +1

It says it will be received in 15 days

Your order has been successful. It will be received in 15 business days. We will send you an SMS update when your order has been shipped.

      • Champion, thats correct!

    • The Email says if ur in a Metro Area (and order before 1pm), you'll get it the next day.

You'll receive an SMS with postage tracking details for your Foxtel Now box once it's been dispatched, with next business day delivery in most metro areas for orders made before 1pm EST.

  • Thanks, worked for me

  • Has anyone cancelled their trial immediately after ordering the box?

    • +5

I suggest not to do that until you get a confirmation that they shipped it to your address

  • After signing up for the free trial, I was able to redeem the package. Thanks OP.

  • +3

Opened a trial account with a prepaid MasterCard, let's see. Thanks OP

  • +6

Reminder that if you have Foxtel, make it so you no longer have Foxtel.

    • +1

yeah, because watching Foxtel make you a Murdoch zombie.

      • -4

no because you are funding a massive media organisation deliberately promoting hate, war and greed.

any money it receives including its tax subsidies is the driving force behind murder death and destruction.

        • +8

          its free though

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: so you won't be using it and getting adverts at all?

        • +3

Wow. The hyperbole is strong in this one.

        • +3

Any money Foxtel receives is the "driving force behind murder death and destruction"

@jv, you forgot to make it bold so we know it's you.

          • -1

@TheDukeOfNukem: can't read my name? enjoy your rising murder rate , coming soon to your area…

        • +2

You should order one. It will cost Murdoch money.

          • @ihfree: naw the pentecostal paid for it via your taxes sucker…

        • No, I actually don't watch ABC

          • @Iwantthebestprice: well it is pentecostal funded, anti -china and often incapable of using a single fact….but then so is most of awstralia's media currently.

            • @petry: Well, in that case consider it another transfer of wealth when they go up on eBay… sucker

              • +1

@ihfree: who the hell cares what you type when you feed the power of the closest thing to a monster

                • +4

                  @petry: have you considered meditation?

                  • +1

@andresampras: have you considered the effects of preaching violence - clearly not…

                • +1

                  @petry: You doing ok, champ?!

                • +1

@petry: I hear yoga does all kinds of good

                  • +1

@Iwantthebestprice: suggest you do it then - give you time to consider the effects of hate speech, especially useful when you're poorer because our biggest trading partner cut all ties…

  • +2

Says in most cases it's shipped next business day, so a good change will be able to cancel the trial in time before it ends

  • can these get fetch channels?

    • Only if Foxtel packages have same channels as in the Fetch packages, check Foxtel Now website for what's included in there packages

  • +1

Looks like the site has been ozbargained
