        • I just bounced this off someone else - and they wondered whether using a prepaid card with a low balance as your payment method MIGHT result in a debt collection situation … where Foxtel chases you for the $99.

I know that some people might say "try your hardest Foxtel - but there was nowhere where you stated that you reserved the right to charge me $99 if I ended the free trial and didn't sign up for an ongoing paid service" … but any kind of debt collection procedure puts a black mark on your credit file that follows you for many many years (even if it is a bogus / unjustified debt collection). Not sure if this is worth the risk of a black mark on your credit file.

Having said all that - how long would a person have to stay a member before finally being "allowed" to resign and keep the box. 1 month? 2 months? More?

I should have known better than to sign up for anything to do with Foxtel. The pain …

          • @maxmad: A bit concerning but yes you're right nothing to stop Foxtel from trying to invoice you for the $99 box especially if you cancelled immediately. I'd say that would be more due to broken process than actually trying to claim money from you. Fortunately we are enjoying our 30 day trial and will contemplate keeping it

          • @maxmad: I cancelled immediately after receiving aus post confirmation. Account now shows deactivated, no charges on card. Bad luck Rupert!

    • +1

No charges showing for me. I cancelled my trial on 12th Jun which was a few days of activating it and ordering the box. The Box was received on 16th.

    • Its happened to two people on Whirlpool (users Dami1234 and Alo) but they haven't updated us on the situation yet.

  • Just received a pending payment of $107.87 from Foxtel in my Bank Account…

Order placed on 9th June, Box arrived on the 11th June and Cancelled on the 13th June.

    • They are billing you for it?

      • Apparently so. Can't dispute charge as it still pending.

  • Just got charged for 2, I only received one and cancelled after it landed at my house

  • So I'm guessing they'll be charging all of us $99 for this now. Sigh… Already cancelled my subscription, should I just resubscribe for $25? Can't see any pending charges atm

    • +3

They better not as I for one will be disputing although yet to read the T&Cs to see if they are within their right to. They can have it back if it comes to that!. No pending charges on mine either.

      • +1

none on mine either, cancelled yesterday and the message said 'no further charges'
from what I understand Foxtel had surplus boxes so there were 12,000 going free, whether they realised it was available to free trials who knows but they got ozb'd that's for sure. The admin for the finance department if they charge everyone who cancels & it's then disputed will just be an added hassle

        • Sounds right… Seems like an old model, does mot have the netflix button.

  • +1

I ordered one on the 10th, but didn't receive it yet.
    Cancelled trial.

  • Charged $198!!!!!! On the phone now.

    • Yep I was just charged $99!

      • +2

20 mins chatting to online agent to get resolved. Box is going in the bin as is any intention to use Foxtel ever again.

        • Online? Chatted with 4 people through online chat - then told they can't do anything online re refunds and I would have to call up! Now waiting on the phone…

          • @perf: May I ask what the phone number too call as don't see anything on the foxtel now webpage

Edit: all good I just had too scroll a little more
            1300 657 346

        • Rather than binning it to landfill, I'm sure that there are some out there that may want the box for the purposes of Netflix or some other services (myself included).

    • What's their number? Seems like they go to great lengths to hide it on the Foxtel Now site?

      • 1300 657 346

        • I then got redirected back to online chat….this is rediculous….

          • @boxall: when you say online chat do you mean the facebook/twitter?

          • @boxall: Same with Telstra, just switch off your caller ID (or add 1831 to the number your dialing) or they'll just keep redirecting you

  • Also try to login in now on the web and it says my account has outstanding payments and can't be logged in….works fine on the box at least.

    • Eventually sorted. They confirmed only one box delivered. $198 refund being processed.

      • How did you sort it mate?

        • Phone and then online chat.

          • @boxall: What did you say to them? I'd like to use it too ;)

            • @OCD Completionist: Same here =)

              • @thimothiz: Just say I am unsure why I was billed for two extra boxes when I only ever received one. I also have emails confirming that the price for each was $0.

          • @boxall: Could you link me the online chat?

Can't find it on their site. Can only see Message Us (via SMS) and Call Us

            • @RichardL: Same, all I can see is Call and SMS

              • @12kahs: Go to the Foxtel page.
After a while a little black chat box would pop up at bottom right corner. (on an ipad).

Make sure you don't have anything blocking pop ups.

                • @cj3: Thank you. It was the adblock that was giving me issues

          • @boxall: The online chat people told me I would have to call up to get it sorted - sounds like you had to do the opposite? Oh boy.

            • @perf: I got told the same thing, maybe it's just pass the parcel untill one of them actually wanna do their job.

  • Got charged $99 despite my account showing no charges pending.

    • Same here =(

  • Can anybody access the terms and conditions? Can't find it anymore since the deal is expired on their site…

"Only available to selected Foxtel Now customers. Offer must be redeemed by 30 June 2021 or while stocks last. 12,000 boxes available. Foxtel Now box will be delivered within 15 business days to the nominated delivery address. Limited to one per customer. Not available in conjunction with any other offer."

My guess is that because the 'free box' offer is through an offer code, it's probably conflicting with the offer code for the free trial (even though they're separate things). When the free trial is cancelled, the system's going 'ah, this person has got a second free offer when they shouldn't - so let's charge them'…

Given that Foxtel is facing dumping these into e-waste otherwise given that there's a newer model with a Netflix button, free is about right.

  • they didn't even take the refundable $1 charge from my card when I signed up, how many had that?

    • Didn't have that - just $198 charge but no bill for it - nothing.

  • How many of the people getting charges for the box are Telstra customer vs 10 days free trial?

    • +2

      10 day free.
Rep said it would take up to 5 business days for refund.

      • Thanks. That's good to know.

  • +5

This is peak Foxtel. Still have NO box, NO shipping confirmation 2 weeks later but now a random $198 charge. Some things never change.

    • Haha sounds typical.
Oh well, we all have invoices with $99 crossed out and $0 charged so they can explain it to the ombudsman or ACCC if they want to push the point.
No wonder their business model is failing

    • +1

And I thought I had it bad. Order on 13th June. No communication about the shipment since.

      • Ordered on 10th June. No communication, cancelled sub yesterday… good luck!

        • +1

I'm an existing Telstra customer so I have one month trial. It should arrive before the month is up.

  • +1

On the phone with Foxtel for over an hour now. Transferred 4 times and now ask to wait until Thursday for a callback while they 'investigate'…

    • +6

On my 4th person in online chat - universally useless 😆 - this last one has now been typing for 10 mins… so not sure if they are just smashing random keys, i'm actually disconnected or they are writing a novel about how I do owe them $198.

    • Ring 1300 657 346, I got straight through and was off the phone in 5 minutes.

      • I did, took 20 minutes to connect, transferred to 4 different department and now waiting for a callback on Thursday while they 'investigate'.

  • OK guys, can anyone beat my $693 charge from Foxtel?

    https://imgur.com/a/m0LdqX9

I'm about to ring and absolutely spray the c****.

    • +4

      Soooooo 7 boxes? 🤣

      • +5

Apparently. I changed the shipping address after I ordered, so maybe that had something to do with it.

But a 5 minute phone call to the number listed above (1300 657 346), and it's being refunded in 3-5 days. But now I am attempting free shit from this because you can't just deduct $693 (not even send an email with the invoice for it), and just say sorry and put it back once you get caught out. I don't care if it's a glitch, the way they did it it is stealing.

      • +3

Sounds like "Early Christmas Gifts for the fam around Aus"

        • +3

If I had ordered 6 and received 6, I wouldn't be as upset, but considering I only ordered and received the one, it's a little frustrating.

          • +1

@appxl: Yeah, I have to confess, when I first saw your charge on the post here, I thought surely it was as a result of filling in the form >1 time, but clearly not.

Good luck getting them to compensate further (because it's hard when dealing with large companies like this one…)

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: Yeah, I am not expecting anything but it's worth a shot.

And yeah, had I ordered multiple under multiple email accounts, each one in theory would have been charged under separate charges instead of the one big bulk charge I received.

I changed the shipping address to mum and dads as they have one of the old Pioneer plasma TV's that doesn't receive HD channels due to the codec change or whatever that happened some years ago, and as this box has an inbuilt tuner as well, I thought it would be a good 'free' investment to put FTA and Netflix/Youtube on that TV.

  • so much 'free' time…

  • I called their hotline and they agreed to refund me. They said it would take 3 to 5 business days.

They told me I have been charged $107 since i ordered 2 Foxtel now boxes and the charge is for the extra box that I ordered. They told me to return the extra box which I will receive in the next 2-3 weeks to the nearest Australia Post.

I then said to them that you should have mentioned that it should be one per account or you will be charged when you order an extra foxtel now box, and they were like yes sir blah blah. Typical Foxtel. Not happy. Never ever gonna subscribe fox Foxtel Freebies again. End of Story.

    • +3

To be fair, the terms and conditions of the deal was 1 per customer. However, this was obviously not built in correctly to the POS system.

      • +2

In this case, “POS” refers to both meanings, ha!

  • Has anyone got an explanation from Foxtel? Why are they charging everyone $99 when the invoice shows $0?

    • +1

Not "everyone" was charged. Regardless, their systems have screwed up by the looks of things.

    • They say they will charge $99 only if you ordered "an Extra Foxtel now box" . The freebie is only one per account.

      • +2

Ahhh right - it's the people who ordered more than one per account that are getting slugged.
Looks like I am OK then. However, that bloke above https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10627380/redir reckons he only ordered one but got charge $693

        • That's me! And yes, I only did order one, and received one. Though I changed the address over the phone for the order which I think placed additional orders in the system. The person had trouble understanding me over the phone and I had to give the address a few times, not sure if that's related but eh.

          • @appxl: Please share their answers when you sort it - would love to hear what they come up with!

            • +1

@King Tightarse: I honestly don't think I will hear an answer, but I did send them a message so hopefully will hear back from that, though I don't expect a real answer.

        • nope i ordered 1 and received one and have been charged $99 as of today , recieved box yesterday. on phone now and are making up stories si i dont get a refund..now there going to escelate it but not give me a refund. Wow!!!!

          • @levidog: Yeah that theory is over now - looks like they just randomly charge anyone.
Foxtel is a ridiculous business. Did they offer you a reason for the charge?

            • @King Tightarse: not as yet still on the phone.

              • @levidog: Please let us know. Would like to here their reasons for all this

                • @King Tightarse: Didn't give me one really (Although he did mention i was with telstra deal / Bundle with internet and which i am not , guess thats an excuse to palm it off and make me pay) and now i have to wait 2- 5 buisness days for a phone call or an email to see what happens from here so i have been told. It has been esculated for a refund but i have to sit on my hands and wait. Told them about the no charge email so if thay dont refund it will be taken further.

                  • @levidog: Right, well we all have invoices show $99 crossed out and $ 0 to pay, so if they get even slightly smart, I would mention the ACCC and/or ombudsman.
If he mentioned some Telstra deal which you don't have, I hope you got him to apologize for their error. I really cant believe these guys!
They have absolutely no case to charge us and should be afraid of the negative publicity.
Please keep us posted if they offer any explanations

                    • +1

@King Tightarse: Will Do.No Problem. Yeh he tried to go down the track you must of signed up with a telstra deal with broadband and giving you the box for free and that is what the charge is for and need to contact them to sought it out. HA HA Im with aussiebroand mate! Cheeky Sons Of Guns.

      • I ordered once - have not even got that box but was randomly charged for 2 more.

  • So anybody else who only ordered one and got charged? Or is it mostly more than one that are getting charged?

    • no i ordered 1 but was charged $99

  • +2

Finally got a shipping notice (method: AusPost app notification, I've registered for MyPost). Order date of box: 10/06 ~8PM.

    • +1

      Yayy!

    • You were very patient - I thought you were going to miss out

      • The two most powerful warriors are patience and time my friend =)

        • Don't forget politeness!

  • +1

got a pending amount of $8.87 from "Foxtel management pty North Ryde"

any clue what this is related to? only ordered 1 box

    • +5

Just freaking amazing how they can randomly charge people all over the place without notification or invoices being sent

    • +6

Ah, I see you received 1/12th of a Foxtel box.

      • Foxtel TV Stick, like an Amazon FireStick but less useful?

        • +1

Less useful than the foxtel box wouldn't even be a paperweight, if I had to rely on it I'd have papers all over the place!

    • +1

I got the same charge. It's one day pro rata
