Probably invoiced at $99 or charged to your credit card though…

        • Both emails said -$99 nothing charged. But still no sms or australia post shipping notification??

  • Just received Auspost notification. Ordered 9/6 3:40pm

    • Just got mine too. Weird that there is no sms as yet.

  • Ordered 2.24pm 9/6 & just received Auspost notification.

    • Same just got my notification

  • Just got mine delivered, cancelled trial haha

  • Even if I get this unit in time, can i specifically use this device for Chromecast purposes (for 2nd tv)? Also, same tv doesn't have working antenna (i.e. local channels), can this box solve that?

I don't intend to have ongoing Foxtel now subscription. Without ongoing subscription can I use this box for above purposes?

    Cheers

    • +1

Yes you can use it as a chromecast, but you will need foxtel account for initial setup. After setting it up, it doesnt matter even if subscription is cancelled. Only downside is its a lot bulkier than an actual chromecast.

      • Thanks for that. what about using this to access the local channels would i need subscription for that? Or is it like chromecast bit, initial setup account will be required but not after that….

        • I guess anything comes out of their service would need an active connection. But it does have an annttena in jack. So there should be no problem with tuning into local free to air Chanels.

          • @glashalful: Cheers. I am yet to receive their unit apparently its still in post. I never got sms. my 10 day trial period expires on 11:59pm on 19/06. Will they charge my credit card in advance than that date….thinking how long should i wait till cancel before getting charged?

            • @s0805: Im waiting without any confirmation as well, mine expires on same day around 8pm. I know it can be used as a chromecast because I purchased one second hand last year to use it with a projector I bought during prime day deals. Then eventually sold the box as I returned the projector.
I think better to wait till 19th. Their email mentions the payment will be done on the following day which is 20th. So I hope it could be safe to hang around untill last minute.

            • @s0805: I cancelled my subscripion on day two. I received the Box today without any SMS's or notifications other than the one that was received after it was delivered. In turn, should not be any issues cancelling your Sub now even if box not yet received.

            • +1

@s0805: Received it today, only got the SMS in the morning that the package will come today. It's the older version without dedicated Netflix button on remote. But works perfectly fine as a chromecast.

              • @glashalful: Same here. It was all in in one day yesterday. I plan to cancel subscription on 19th morning…may as well catch some cricket tomorrow….did u find any other use (without subscription)..

                • @s0805: Great! I don't really have anyother use for it beside being a chrome cast. But you can try out some games on google play if ou are into mobile gaming on a huge screen ;)

My second is in its way 👍🤣

More landfill. Hope you feel proud :-)

  • What a rubbish box. Remote pairing crashed and it struggled connecting to my wifi network. Had to power it all of and now it is going OK.

Edit. The Google Setup also failed.

    • Yeah I had to try a few times to connect to my wifi, and the TV tuner still refuses to scan for FTA channels.
Unplugged the RF cable and plugged it straight back into the Vodafone box, TV reception is not the issue like it states on the foxtel box.

  • Yep and still no sms or tracking. Missed out by the looks. 9th after 2 I ordered.

    • Just received the sms today morning. 9th around 7pm.

Anyone have any luck de-foxtelizing it? I spent a few hours last night and managed to do the following:

    • WBMC installed as above and IPTV / Foxtel Go add-ons setup (have done this on another Android TV though so was familiar)
    • ATV Launcher Pro side-loaded (had to decompile and recompile the APK) so I don't see the default foxtel one. Removed all references to foxtel in it so all I see is WBMC, Live TV, netflix, youtube, plex, etc
    • Button Mapper installed so Home on the remote opens ATV Launcher
    • Launch on Boot to open ATV when turning it on

I tried to remove the foxtel launcher via ADB but didnt have permissions. The foxtel launcher seems to still open when I stop casting though so would like to find a way to remove it.

    • Can you share steps on how to tinker with the ATV app.

      • +8

        Sure, I did the following:

        • Download the ATV APK file (I assume other launchers would work too)
        • Decompile it (I used Easy APK Took from XDA)
        • Edit AndroidManifest.XML (I think it was this one) and remove the line that references 'HOME'
        • Recompile and install via ADB (e.g. adb connect 192.168.x.x; adb install atv.apk)

It should install without much of an issue

        • Thanks..will try it out..let us know if you figure out how to negate the return to default launcher after disconnecting Chromecast.

        • How do you edit AndroidManifest.xml?

I found the file after I decompiled the APK but when I open the file in notepad++ it's all NULL

NVM was editing the wrong one

    • May I ask what's the difference between the standard free ATV Launcher and the paid ATV Launcher Pro, cheers

      • I think it just allows you to hide unwanted apps (i.e. Foxtel Now Launcher). I initially had the free version but wanted the ability to hide all of the extra stuff

    • This also worked for leanback launcher, for some reason wolf launcher became corrupted using the same method

  • -4

I ordered two within a few minutes only received one.

  • used the online live chat & the agent told me delivery is 2-10 business days

  • -2

If anyone here is an Android developer would be great to get a custom rom with Google TV support.

  • Anyone get Binge working? I side loaded the APK from the Mega link and the app opens but I get a "Binge is no longer supported on this device" message when I try and play a video.

    • Having the same issue, ended up just casting binge from my phone.

  • Got mine today.
Batteries have a BB date of Jun 2020. The shrinkwrap looks perfect but the box inside looks definitely like a refurb. Everything works well after the 2 automatic updates. Initially it wouldn't connect to WiFi but after connecting it via ethernet for a few minutes and letting it complete the updates WiFi works perfectly.

All up a handy box but I'll be testing later to see if I can load Jellyfin.

  • +1

Got mine today. Appears to be doa. Warranty claim logged.

    • Yep.

Mine is showing intermittent hanging now.
Might just throw it in the bin.

  • And still no win for me. nothing arrived nothing sent no sms , no dispatch email. trial finished in 2 days.. looks like i lost out with this deal.

    • Not necessarily as there is no despatch email. We are meant tp be SMS'd but like many others I got no SMS and product just arrived today (Sydney). My guess and assuming you received the initial confirmation email, it should arrive.
As for the trial, i cancelled mine after a couple of days. It made no difference as Item arrived today.

      • Who was the delivery company? AusPost? AAE? Courier?

        • +1

          Auspost.

      • +1

I got an AusPost email, but no sms.

  • Received mine today, was surprised that it's actually pretty easy to set up. MY TV is smart but old so in-built apps work pretty poorly - this will be an OK little upgrade. iView and Netflix seemed to install alright, and Chromecast is pretty responsive.

  • Finally got notification from Australia Post my box is on its way, ordered on the 9th.

    • Around what time on the 9th did you order mate?

      • It was in the evening after work.

        • Nice! Its just that I ordered on the 9th around 7pm and haven't received dispath notification yet so was curious. Thanks buddy!

  • Finally received the unit yesterday and after few freezing issue end up setting it up. I don't intend to continue subscription. After subscription i think

    1. I could use this as Chromecast features.
    2. Due to my antenna not working i hoped this would solve local channels issue but no luck as it requires me to insert the antenna cable in unit (which is not working) so no help there….unless anything i am missing
    3. Is there any other use you guys found with no active subscription

    cheers

    • To get around your issue of your antenna not working, you could perhaps use the relevant channel apps to stream it over the internet? E.g. 9Now, 7Plus etc?

      • yap thought about that too….I mainly rely on local channels during summer cricket and unfortunately these apps doesn't help then. Is there any other use you guys find for unit without ongoing subscription…

    • +1

How could local channels work if as you wrote: "Due to my antenna not working i hoped this would solve local channels issue"
One needs an antenna to get a signal or are you saying your unit is broken?

  • Got mine today. Ordered on the 9th. Took 10 minutes to set up with no hiccups. Feels about the same if not a little snappier than my old MiBox. Overall pretty happy with it especially considering that it's free.

    • Got mine too. Google didn't recognise for setup via my phone but did it via the box and all working. Same manufacturer as the Vodafone TV. Hopefully I can get it to run almost like stock Android TV.

  • Got email notification from Austpost in my junk mail folder for the shipment. Ordered 10/6 12 pm.

  • Ordered on 9th evening. Got the Auspost tracking email & SMS confirmation from Foxtel for the dispatch this afternoon.

  • ordered morning 10/6 and just received a sms it's on it's way

  • Ordered on the 9th in the evening. Package arrived an hour ago with no Auspost or SMS notification of dispatch.

    • Ordered on the 14th holiday Monday, with only the initial confirmation email. so should sit back & wait for another few days :)

  • Well finally not long ago… Australia post preparing to ship notifacation. And just now foxtel sms as well. On its way. Time to cancel trial. Yesssss!

  • +1

Received mine yesterday, just set up today. It's very simple and so is the remote, which should be easy enough for the folks to use. That's a streaming device for them sorted.

Included batteries expiry date said 06/2020 but they're still working.
Only complaint so far is that the red ring light indicator stays on when it's off, very distracting in a dark room

Tempted to get myself one now but already have an Apple TV

    • +1

Only complaint so far is that the red ring light indicator stays on when it's off, very distracting in a dark room

Black electrical tape will sort that out.

  • +2

Received mine a couple of days ago and can confirm that it is crap in comparison to the Vodafone TV box. Heavily customised UI, remote buttons do not have the same tactile feel and overall the box is sluggish compared to the VTV. Might try getting rid of the Foxtel launcher using the info shared in this thread.

  • Can anyone offer tips on how to get my Foxtel box to show up as a Chromecast device? Would have expected it to be automatically done when joining my wifi network. Got my google account and Foxtel account both set up. Seems to work alone fine but wanted to be able to cast to it as well

    • It should show up if part of your same home network. I tested mine and casted to it without issue.
OTHER: check the setting area to ensure Casting is turned on.

      • Yep tried that. I think it's my Samsung mesh wifi probably causing issues. I think if it's connected via a different hub it could cause issues. Had a related issue with speaker groups not working previously and the Plume technicians did some back end changes to fix it for me. Will reboot my routers and see

I ordered my box last Friday. Still not dispatched :(

    • +2

Good luck. Many from Thursday haven’t been dispatched yet…

      • It arrived today

  • -2

Got mine on Monday, got it all set up last night, works great. Just ordered another one, so lets see if it get here before the next trial. Will try and set this up without foxtel as mentioned above.

  • How to install unknown app on box without using google play

  • If I have a normal Foxtel subscription with iQ3 can I use that to sign in to this Foxtel Now Box, or is Foxtel Now a completely separate product and I have to pay a separate monthly fee for it?

    • I think you can, but you need to get Multiscreen which is $15

      Multiscreen FAQ

      About Multiscreen

      • Just to add to this, if you’re got platinum (I think that’s top tier) it’s included.

I discovered that my FIL is paying the price of the current platinum deal ($99/m which includes multi room and Netflix standard) but does not have platinum and is paying for Netflix on top.

I’ve suggested he negotiate he way on to that deal do he can use this for multi room.

  • Think I got a dud box. Plugged it in and switched it on, loads the Foxtel now and powered by Android logo screen, and then a blank screen with nothing. Left plugged in for 10mins and nothing changes, remains on a blank screen. Darn it.

    • +1

Had a problem on an older TV with HDMI not being HDCP 2.2 version, so wouldn't send video to that TV.

Got Foxtel logo, spinning circle, then blank.

Fortunately, all my HDMI go through an AVR. When the AVR is turned on it sends messages to TV, if any problem.
With this box, got a message that output device (older TV) was not HDCP 2.2 compatible.

Works fine on a new model monitor though.

Might be worth checking on a device you know has at least HDCP 2.2.

      • Thank you for your reply. I tried different TVs, and checked the LG TV I bought last year and it has HDCP 2.2, so that does not appear to be the issue for me. Called Foxtel and they said to submit a warranty claim online, so will be interesting to see if they send a replacement box.

  • Ah shit

'Thank you for your interest in receiving a free Foxtel Now box*.
We hate to say it but we've exhausted all 12,000 boxes for this promotion'

I should have ordered 2 but I'm still waiting on my first one…

    • +1

Via email or SMS after ordering or just the website link?
I still haven't had any update.

      • I got a confirmation email and no tracking they must have shut it down

    • You’ll be waiting a while. Ordered mine on 10th, no notification nor product yet…

      • That's weird, I order my 2nd box on the 18th and got a delivery notification on the 22nd. They might not have got your order.

  • finally got my box has anybody actually got apple tv+ working on it? Have tried sideloading the apk but get the error "There is a problem parsing the package"

    • +1

I got it installed opened it, Logged in using QR CODE. Played trailers. They worked. Tried to play a APPLE TV+ Original Show. It starts fine and shows the Logo and plays the ad at the start but after the ad it just loads indefinitely.

      • How to install apple tv on it

i made my order at 11th but i got no sms or update does that mean im left out ?

Has anyone seen the posts over on Whirlpool about the person who cancelled their trial and got charged $99 for the box as a result? This person has already received delivery info from Australia Post - so the box was in the mail when they cancelled. This is not ideal - to say the least. https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3mj6n5x9?p=26 … or scroll to the most recent few posts at the bottom of this https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/3mj6n5x9

Has anyone here cancelled (before or after receiving their box) and been charged the $99?

It might turn out to be worth considering paying for a month of Foxtel Now ($25), get the box, set it up, make sure all is working fine … THEN cancel? Better a $25 bill than a $99 bill!

    • Maybe use prepaid credit card with little amount left to avoid it ?

      • +1

I was thinking the same. No doubt we can go into our account settings - and change the credit card details to be a prepaid card. As long as it will accept the $1 test transaction it should work.

However - I wonder if Foxtel will go ahead with posting out a freebie (worth $99) to a customer who has cancelled during the free trial? And if they do go ahead with it - I wonder if they will still post it if they try to hit our card with $99 and it bounces?

This is fast going from a freebie to either a $25 or a $99 purchase. Maybe I should have just bought one on Ebay for $35 - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/384168301125
