  • Anyone else has issues with with low volume on the Foxtel Now Box? Compare to my Vodafone TV box, the volume coming out of the Foxtel Now Box is only about half as loud. Tested on Foxtel content and Smart Tube.

My setup: Foxtel Now Box > Taotronics BA-08 > Logitech Z623

    • I also feel same sound very low even with max volume its ok volume level

    • The volume is fine on the Plantronics Back Beat Pro.

Edit: My bluetooth headphone has its own volume control and it seems to boost the volume independent of the Foxtel Now Box volume control.

    • Na, I’m running it through my tv and through aux out to my classic amp, it’s loud

    • had a similar problem but switched off the setting allowing volume control through the tv on the FNB and that fixed it

Does anyone know if they reset the counter now they cancelled heaps of orders - or did they just shut the promo down? Wouldn’t mind another…

    • +2

One per customer or you get charged $99. You can buy mine. :-)

      • Yeah I’m weighing up buying one on Kogan, or buying a new power supply for my Telstra tv 3…almost the same price

Finally got my box delivered yesterday. Had ordered on the 11th.

Foxtel support were insistent I wouldn't get it because I had cancelled my subscription already. Thankfully they were wrong

    • Mine got delivered today.
Ordered on the 15th using the Telstra trial.

    • Outsourced warehouse and support, left hand has no idea what the other is doing, they just get the orders and pack

Mine got delivered Tuesday. I set it up Thursday - all worked fine. Went to turn it on this morning - completely dead. It lasted less than 24 hours. I tried different powerpoints - and even a spare AC adaptor I had - but nothing worked. It is dead - no lights - no nothing. Reset button on the base does nothing either.

I know that you can't expect much when you don't pay anything - but wow. Imagine the poor folks who paid $99 and got a product that worked for a day.

Fortunately it has a 24 month warranty. Will be interesting to see how they handle the warranty claim I just lodged!

    • I thought the same but pressed the top of the unit and it turned back on. Like a secret button

      • Thanks for the idea - but I had tried that and it did nothing. I mean it pressed in and clicked - as it should - but it didn't bring the unit back to life. Definitely dead.

  • For those with an expired account, do you still get any Foxtel channels that still work on the Foxtel Box (e.g. news, racing, shopping etc)?

    • +1

Yes get news havnt tried racing but will

      • thanks!

      • +1

I tried with my deactivated account and all I get is the locked key icon on every channel, including news etc.
Is there something else you need to do to get those channels?

Update: Was hoping for CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg, but found that Sky News and Fox Sports News are the only channels that appear to work, even though they show the key. To show them, you need to scroll to the right to highlight the actual show (rather than the channel itself) and then press ok.
I will put this one back on the shelf for later projects.

  • Thanks for the tip on checking the remote control batteries. They expired 6/2020. Must be an old box from the warehouse

    • Yes but they still work

i actually gave up on this thinking i wouldnt recieve it whoops i was wrong i recieved it yesterday

Reshare from user YeahBabi at Whirlpool

    managed to install kodi
disabled foxtel packages with adb and it lets you install kodi without errors (think its just the secutity package but i just done all before it tried)

    adb shell pm disable-user —user 0 foxtelnow.box.setup
    adb shell pm disable-user —user 0 foxtelnow.box.oba
    adb shell pm disable-user —user 0 foxtelnow.box.security

can enable it again and kodi still works.

    adb shell enable foxtelnow.box.security

if you installed another launcher you can disable the foxtel one
    adb shell pm disable-user —user 0 foxtelnow.box.launcher

    • tried & confirm working.. Cheers & kudos to Yeahbabi @ WP

      Setting Kodi repo's up now..

    • Thanks for posting here, better than what I was doing up until now.

    • Do you know if updates to Kodi will install successfully after re enabling the Foxtel stuff?

    • Can adb commands be run on the box itself with a keyboard? Also has anyone noticed kodi buffering quite a bit: unsure if my it’s connection or wifi but nothing else is playing up that much - or is the device not powerful enough to handle the live streams? I installed the Pluto tv add on just before as the apk refused to load and it it’s streams stalled a little bit as well. I’ve also noticed every now and then it says ‘internet disconnected’ or some rubbish like that - could it be the Foxtel security crap in the background?

How to connect to your Foxtel Now box wirelessly to disable FoxtelNow security and Launcher so you can install official Kodi and other third party launcher.

      1. From the Foxtel Now home screen, go to Settings > System Settings > Go to system settings.
      2. Scroll ddown to About and click on Build several times until a dialog appears with the message "You are now a develooper" appears.
      3. Go back to Android Settings > scroll down and click on Developer options (below Accessibility) > scroll down and enable USB debugging > OK to All USB debugging.
      4. Go back to Android Settings > Network > click on the network your FoxtelNow Box is currently connected to > note down the IP address.

      5. On a Windows machine, download and extract Portable Minimal ADB and Fastboot (if you do not currently have it).

      6. Double click on cmd-here.exe
      7. Enter command adb connect "Your FoxtelNow Box IP address" (without the quotation marks). When prompt to allow on your TV screen, tick the Always allow box and OK.
      8. Enter command adb shell pm disable-user -user 0 foxtelnow.box.security to disable Foxtel security check. You should receive the message Package foxtelnow.box.security new state: disabled-user.
      9. Install a third party Android TV Launcher such as ATV Launcher or TVLauncher. I found that I needed to restart the FoxtelNow box before I can install the official Kodi from Google Play.
      10. Enter command adb shell pm disable-user -user 0 foxtelnow.box.launcher to disable FoxtelNox Launcher. When clicking the Home button on the remote, it should default to the last launcher you have installed.

Enjoy your FoxtelNow Box without the bloat.

This much work to just install kodi?
Mine was download apk file tick unknown source and install
        Done working easy as

        • I think the extra steps are to remove the bloat rubbish

        • +1

You must have downloaded a modified Kodi which will likely not receive automatic updates.

The ability to disable the Foxtel Now launcher is a big plus if don't have an active Foxtel subscription as their launcher is very slow. When I click the Home button, I often have to wait a few seconds for it to load.

          • +1

@thangcuoi: Thanks for explaining i may try lol when I am free 😜

        • I had to install a kodi from a whirlpool
          Forum ^ thank you thangcuoi

          • +2

@DemocracyManifest: I did noticed that Kodi installed from Google Play would "disappeared" by itself. It's possible that the FoxtelNow Box somehow remove the app after restarting the box. I have since disabled foxtelnow.box.setup and foxtelnow.box.oba but I forgot to check if that fixes the issue.

            • @thangcuoi: I’ve noticed every now and then the box when using kodi seems to ‘drop out’ with the wifi, I wonder if the Foxtel security is playing silly buggers with it

              • +1

@DemocracyManifest: I don't use the FoxtelNow Box as my primary streaming device as I have issues with its max volume output being roughly half of that on my Vodafone TV box.

About once every few weeks, I experience Bluetooth drop out on the Vodafone TV box. So it could just be buggy software.

      • Does it run nicely just as a standard android TV box?

My in laws want something and I was recommending Google TV, but I have a spare Foxtel Now box.

        • Yeah i haven’t removed the stock launcher yet but it still works totally fine with Plex or any other catch up app or modified launcher/kodi

        • Certainly recommend the new Chromecast for Google TV, runs really smooth though my favourite is the Vodafone TV box as it has the built-in tuner, price was lower also, shame Vodafone stopped selling and offering them

          • @Italkdigital: Haha, funnily enough, I have both.

For the Google TV, I have found the joy of the Matt Husiman IPTV Kodi add-on and that seems to be working great. A remote similar to the Vodafone TV remote would be good because of the number pad, but this Foxtel Now box is just trying to deal with an excess.

Thanks for your response though :)

            • @tomsco: Wondering if you got a link for Matt Husiman IPTV Kodi? as I don't see it in the playstore, well I do remember what kodi was years back so wondering what does Matt Husiman IPTV Kodi do?

      • adb shell pm disable-user -user 0 foxtelnow.box.security

Getting Error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Unknown package: 0

        • +1

Try two dash before user 0. The single dash worked for me initially but I had to add the extra dash when I went back and disable oba.

          adb shell pm disable-user —user 0 foxtelnow.box.security

  • Anyone got charged the $99 cost of box? Noticed they charged me on the 20th of June 2021 too my credit card but looked just recently and there was a refund of $99 back to my CC one week later on the 28th,..

I've cancelled the subscription but worrying I can't remove my credit card off there system, is there way of cancelling the whole account or removing my Credit Card from there system?

  • What's the best launcher to use?

    • -3

      Rocket

    • I personally find leanback launcher great, alot cleaner than ATV launcher.

I used the firestick guide and installed with no issues.

Ignore the "launcher manager" it's not needed if you disabled foxtel launcher with adb.. I don't know if it works otherwise, I didn't bother trying.
