      Okay

    • +21

We'll get there thanks to inflation.

But yeah, $1.5k for a year old phone isn't great.

      • Not soon.

Why so much downvote.. He's not wrong

        • -1

          Thanks mate :-)

    • +3

Talking about the price or cost of ownership. It is not the purchase price but the difference between purchase and resell price. From that prospective, I think iPhone still wins.

      • And the facts that it is quicker to have your iphone fixed (time is money) and Apple don’t do massive discounts/bonuses before/during/after release that devalue their phones right from the start (aka Samsung Fold/Flip 3).

  • +12

Didn’t Iphone 13 in the market? Why $1.5k for old product

      • Bigger screen?

      • +7

Not really, once you try 120hz refresh rate the 60hz will feel sluggish despite Apple's level of optimisation.

        • +10

Yeh nah extra $500 bucks for that .. other than the refresh rate not so much improvements

          • +1

@sauce2k: yeah I understand. $500 is a steep ask just for the extra refresh rates. Besides the upgraded camera and refresh rate everything else is almost the same (the improvement in the SOC is basically not noticeable as the 12 is still very very fast)

            • +1

@Wiede: Yeah they could of easily added those features to the 12 I'm guessing I'm hoping they used the extra time working on a major redisign for the 14

          • +2

@sauce2k: Chip and camera is much better too

          • +4

            @sauce2k: It actually is.

Coupled with the 20% larger battery, the variable refresh rate means it can have significantly longer battery life compared to the 12 pro max.
The 13 Pros also had a 50% improvement in GPU processing power. As a comparison, it only went up about 20% from the 11 to 12.

            • @ChillBro: Significant longer hmm not sure about that. I have 12 pro max, battery is obviously better on the 13 after all it’s the current gen but not significantly. Depending on usage after.

GPU power, normal users won’t notice the difference. Tbh 11 and 12 are pretty fast already.

              • +1

@sauce2k: If a battery life improvement of over 20% isn't significant to you, I don't know what is lmao

The latest and greatest may not always be the best. The battery life actually went down in the 12 Pro Max compared to the 11 Pro Max due to the 10% smaller battery size.

The argument on the GPU is the same every year, that the last generation is 'fast enough' and the latest isn't worth it. This completely ignores any sort of future proofing and growing demands for more powerful devices in the future. Also, one of the most popular games (Genshin Impact) struggles a bit running at 60fps even on my 13 Pro Max, I can't imagine how much shittier it would be on older iPhones.

                • @ChillBro: Have u tested it’s 20% lmao? I said it depends on usage. I’m above average user and it lasts me til I get home/before bed. Sure 20% great lmao

Yeh sure because everyone upgrades will play genshin impact lol. I’m not saying it’s not worth it, I just don’t think it’s significant improvements warrants extra $500 bucks from 12pro max to 13pm

                  • @sauce2k: No… I leave the testing to the numerous reviewers online.

I used genshin as an example simply because it's a very popular game. The fact is that processing power does matter even for mainstream users and thus your comment above stating "normal users won’t notice the difference" is false.

If you're simply stating your opinion based on your own usage, that's fine but don't go spreading it like it's fact.

                    • @ChillBro: I'm not sure what you are triggered. You know a lot of reviewers online don't actually use it daily right? I really hope you do lol.

Normal users play genshin impact? Target audience for iPhone is not gaming.

I'm not spreading anything, relax man this is not a forum of justice. I'm just commenting based on real life scenarios.

                      @ChillBro: @Chill Bro.. @Chill. @Bro. Chill!

Sorry, habit.. I suffer from #makingfunofnames syndrome.

          • @sauce2k: Exactly you can get another med range Android phone with that price.

        • I wonder how the battery fairs with 120hz, anyone know?

          • +2

@Big Lez: The iPhone 13 battery life is stellar, and as others have mentioned, the refresh rate is variable so it can go as low as 10hz which saves battery life further.

            • @Galvatron: Nice sounds good. But it does beg the question what sort of applications would push past 60hz? Is it just gaming

              • +1

@Big Lez: Actually most games cap out at 60hz, so it’s more for everyday apps. It just makes scrolling so much more fluid, hard to explain without witnessing it.

                Note - I use a Pixel 6 Pro, which has a similar 10-120hz screen.

          • +1

@Big Lez: Battery life is great with or without it. Because it's variable & drops to 10hz, or movies which doesn't need anything higher than 24hz. It does even use less battery than 60hz while watching movies.

        • As a daily 360hz monitor user, it’s fine on a phone 60hz for most ppl, myself included

    • Sold my year old 256gb 12PM with a few scratches/wear & tear for $1400 just a few weeks ago, so I’d say this is a pretty good deal

      • Didn't sell it to a ozbargainer then

  • +1

    25%off last year's RRP.

  • I upgraded to the 12 pro max when the 13 was announced and it is fantastic. Huge upgrade.

    • +2

      From which phone?

      • +21

        Nokia 3210

        • +1

          SNAKE FTW!!!!

      • iPhone 11

        • Of course it's a huge upgrade compared to 11 with that terrible IPS screen from IPhone 6 and washed out colours. You wouldn't feel that big of difference if you had 11 pro or pro max. In fact it would have been a downgrade in terms of battery because 12 pro max's battery is 15-20% smaller than 11 PM.

          • @Mi2: Ok? It was an upgrade regardless. And the battery is a huge step up.
Also the colours on the LCD were fine. The biggest upgrade is (of course) the contrast but also the peak brightness.

I find it funny how the telstra deal got negatively smashed but this deal is positive.
    The ozbargain community confuses me.

    • +5

      Costco bias.

      • +11

Not at all. The Telstra deal got smashed due to the terrible experiences everyone had with Telstra Day deals

        • +5

Have a read of the comments, many people gave negatives because of the prices not just because of the experience.
To the point that i made a comment saying prices were not that bad then also got negged.

        • Yeah.. that s21 being $300 more two months later in the same “deal” is what did it lmao

    • -3

The reddit community confuses me more, downvotes for what

    • +1

This deal in specific is a $12 cheaper!

      Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max (256GB)(telstra.com.au) - $1519 (Save $500)

Doesn't help that most of the other phones were not deals at all

    • +2

I was eagerly waiting for the Telstra deal, then it turns out only one capacity and two colours were available online. So I queued in store for the colour and size I wanted, but there were no stock and no help finding stores with stock.

      TLDR Telstra bad.

    • There is method to this madness.

    • Apply fanboys vs a deal that involved Telstra and Samsung

  • This online only or can you get the price instore?

    • +1

Generally speaking it's a tad cheaper in store as online price includes delivery into the advertised online price.

If you phone up they won't tell you have much it is in store. I'd also say the Stock would be very hit and miss in store. Most likely next to a few units that probably got sold out over the weekend trade.

I'd personally give them a call to check availability at your local and go down and grab at 10am. Otherwise just go online, they are pretty quick to ship.

      • +1

Thanks. My local costco is close by. I'd rather get it now than wait.

        • edit - Just got an email. Online only.
        • +1

Since it says it's a Hot Buy that generally means it's cheaper online than it is in store. And this deal specifies it's an online only deal.

          • +1

@emmanator12: Cool thanks. Before it was edited, it didn't specify online only

  • +3

Optical zoom is only 2.5x not 5x. Apple started to quote 'optical zoom range' which includes the total zoom range from the wide angle lens, but zooms on all other phones and cameras are quoted referenced to a 25mm lens (on a full frame camera).

They did this to make it look like they have the same 5x zoom as competing brands, but they don't.

    • Interesting, cause their camera UI shows it as 2.5x zoom.

    • +1

Zoom ratings between phones are meaningless anyway. It's only a ratio of the equivalent focal length of the ultra wide and telephoto.

So the wider they go the more "zoom" the phone has.

  • +1

I initially thought the price was for iPhone 13 Pro Max 256GB and was going to buy and realized that it was 12

  • +1

This is not a bad deal ONLY if you want a brand new one and don't want to pay extra for a 13 pro max
a perfect condition used 12 pro max should be around $1150-1200 (without scratch and ~90% battery health)

    • I thought 13 was a bad luck number?

      • Not if you have money 💰

        • BUHAHAHA! I suppose it's good luck if you have 13 million bux.

      • +1

I thought 13 was a bad luck number?

Well, based on your statement, 13 is no longer a bad luck number?

      • I'm persuaded..

    • a perfect condition used 12 pro max should be around $1150-1200 (without scratch and ~90% battery health)

So that could be 1 year old phone. "Perfect" condition according to who? The seller?

      • Yes that's the only way, but you can always see it when you go to pickup or ask for detailed photos beforehand

  • Honestly I'm not that impressed with iPhone 12 let alone the MAX. Battery only last one day much shorter than 2.5 days of my Pixel 5. Pixel 5 only $780 or less

I did not paid for iPhone 12, work did

  • 1.5K for an outdated model? Cool!

  • good thing about iphones is the second hand value, which is amazing. effectively it costs me about $300 to $400 a year to upgrade to latest pro iphone every year, only because of resale value. which is reasonable given these are top tier phones. effectively i pay $25 to $30/month perpetually to have the latest iphone at any given time. which is not that bad. can be lower for sure.

    • +1

What happens if you accidently lose/drop one? It breaks the loop?

      • +1

well, 3 years and counting! hopefully i don't have to think about that.

  • Any deals on iPhone 12 Pro? No a fan of the Max size.

  • -1

Need a cheap iPhone for Trump new media platform lol.

  • Out of stock. Says blue is in stock but then Sorry, there is insufficient stock for your cart.

  • +1

The website showed all of the 4 colours ran out of stock now.

Can't even add to the cart.

    Sad

  • OOS, not even showing up on the website and this is an ONLINE ONLY sale, not available in store!

  • +2

I am trying to shop for something else at Coscto and the site keeps crashing but when I reloaded the SOLD banner had gone so I added a phone to my cart just to see and it appears they have more stock so perhaps they are releasing in dribs and drabs. If you want one might be worth it to keep checking.

  • -1

hmm how much can you sell a 12 pro max with cracked back for?

    • Put it for auction in eBay and let the market decide.

    • you lose a lot of value with a cracked back. brand new goes for $1500, i would guess you will be slightly under $1000 for a used cracked phone

  • -1

Phones are so good these days you can buy a 3 year old model and save!

  • -1

Crazy! $1.5K for a year old phone.

    • -1

apple phones hold there value very well, even this sold out fast for a year old phone. you might want to look into a samsung or google phone, they don't hold there value very well and you can have it for cheap.

also try woolies and coles they have great deals for you if 1.5k is too much for you.

  • Any good outright deals on the 13?

    • Just check back about this time next year. ;-)

Or, stock up on Apple gift cards from Colesworths when they offer discount in reward dollars.

    • +1

yes, its with the tooth fairy and unicorns.

the best you will find is linking it with a plan at jb hifi or something, but nothing outright.

  • next deal is golf, when does that start?
