  • Just noticed this bug on the eBay Australia OzB coupon page

The coupon “FYEO159G7X2F4M7M” is showing on that page but when I go to the deal itself, there isn’t a coupon listed as a power user edited it because it was a unique code

    • No problem. The coupon has been removed.

      • Thanks Scotty. Enjoy your long weekend mate

Personally, I preferred the old way notifications showed up in the dropdown menu. The indicator circle is much harder (imo) to see which notifications have been read and which have not, as opposed to the whole rectangle behind the notification being coloured.

Is it possible to have an option as to how your notification bar presents? I'd like to revert, whilst I'm sure some are very happy with the new changes. Thanks anyways!

    • Hi. Sorry it's not feasible to provide that as an option. Also it wont be possible to provide preferences for everything we change on the site.

      • Fair enough! keen for future changes - it's always interesting to see how it evolves :) cheers!

  • An idea and I don't know if it's been recommended before or not, but, would it be possible to create a second confirm posting screen after the original button?

i.e You press post on a deal, and then you need to confirm for a second time that you want it posted. Like a pop-up or something like that?

    • Because sometimes people accidentally clicked on "Submit" to post deals they aren't supposed to be posting?

      • Yeah, it's almost happened to me before when I've meant to save a draft, but almost hit submit instead. I mean you don't have to but I just had an epiphany.

  • Merged from Can We Have a Subscribe Button for a Brand or a Tag?

We have a subscribe button for a product and a store, can we have one for a brand or a tag?
For example it will be great if I can get email notice for the brand sukin across different stores and products.
    Thanks.

    • +3

You can get an email by using the search function, then 'Create Alert'.

      • Thanks, it will be great if they can make this function more obvious/ straight forward :D

      • Yeah it's great that Gmail and other Google Apps have filter buttons even though I have some of the search operators memorized anyway. It makes it a lot easier when under stress.

  • Merged from Can OzB Integrate Amazon Price History?

Ok so I've been using OzBargain for some time now, and one feature I'm hoping to see is the camels price history chart integrated with the post. Refer to link for example

    Is this a possibility?

    • There's already a link to Camel x3 at the bottom of the post for Amazon deals (although I don't think Camel doing the AU pricing properly).

In theory we could build an Amazon price tracker with their Selling Partner API. Just that Camel works (or worked before) so we haven't bothered.

      • What's wrong with Camel.au?

      • How about linking PriceHipster for other merchants?

Classified Forum wanted posts only have "Found" action. What about closing for some other reason, eg not wanted anymore.
Marking it as Found may lead a 3rd party to make an incorrect assumption.

    • Classifieds can also be marked as expired, you should be able to expire it immediately by backdating expiry by writing it in manually in the expiry field, eg 2022-11-01. Or just report it and we can do it for you.

  • Move the initial comment/reason for neg vote from the comments section to the "votes" location next to the username with a report button so that invalid votes can still be reported.
    https://i.ibb.co/Fs2f7TS/Screenshot-2022-10-19-143759.png
    Something like this.

Have it so that when you negative vote you have to select a comment you've made previously as the reason for the neg vote which will then hide that comment from everyone and show up in the above "votes" location

  • +1

feature request: if you block a user, their comments are not visible to you at all, as opposed to the current system in which the content of the comment is hidden, but you can still see that there is a comment from a blocked user and unhide it with a click

  • Hi Scotty,
I have a suggestion regarding the daily entries page for competitions. Would you be able to filter out all daily entry competitions that have already ended and leave the ones still active? It's tiresome having to go through several pages with competitions that are closed just to get to the ones that are open and submit my daily entry.

    • If you go to the All Competitions page, there should be a filter option at the top that should allow you to customise, i.e. Entry limit: Once per day + Exclude closed competitions.

  • Feature request:

I've been pondering whether it would be a good idea to set Referrer-Policy stop sending the Referer header to certain sites, when it's not generally great to announce you arrived from Ozb. Not worth the effort versus intangible benefit? (I also presume there's business reasons not to as well)

Although I guess it would be hard to figure out which domains to add outside of those that are silly enough to send takedown requests your way.

Ie. Adding referrerpolicy="no-referrer" to the 'Go to Deal' button and other links in the deal description.

    • Companies that want to send take down should know how to track us down anyway, as OzBargain is one of the most popular websites in Australia already. I don't see there's a need to break how the web works with referrer headers.

      • Fair enough.

All they really get these days is the domain now instead of the actual deal url because of browser defaults.

  • +1

    Feature request: Advanced Search Operators
    i.e. Wildcard, AND, OR, etc

i.e. Searching for dell monitors U3223QE and U2723QE, would be good to be able to do this with one query.

  • Not in bold in notifications:

    • The word "deal" when subscribed to users.
    • The username when private messages are sent.
      • The word "Deal" when subscribed to events (+30, +100, +30 in 30 min).
  • The comment drop-down list for navigating OP's or my comment doesn't appear in this deal.

    • It's appearing now.

If a thread is merged, does it take some time for the comment drop-down list to be updated?

So ive learned something very clear in my short time as a member here….

Apparently twitter isnt the only toilet bowl on the internet, ozbargain forums seem to be doing quite well at hosting trolls and those who like to punch down. You cant simply have an opinion here.

I get it now, sign up for the bargain alerts, but avoid the toilet bowl that is the forums.

    • +2

True, it's full of people who attack parents for buying their kids PC's

Or do you think that was reasonable language and behaviour?

      • -4

        how is that "attacking" ?

        i expressed disbelief…its insane to give a 13yo a $3,000 PC…doubt im alone on that

        theres a world of difference

        and i used english words….

whats truly disturbing is you trolling my comments looking for ammunition. i have much better things to do with my time

But thanks for proving my point for me about trolls who like to punch down on here

        • +1

          You've earnt and deserve everything you've received…

And with 38 comments it doesn't take much to read them…

  • On * Food & Grocery: Discussion Forum - OzBargain Forums the header has Meal Delivery comparison sites

The Meal delivery subtopic link doesn't exist on wiki anymore. I don't know how to search in past history for when it changed.

    Help?

    • Removed. Thanks.

  • Could you add the following words to title format suggestions?

    • eSIM
    • eSIMs

    Thank you.

    • Done.

      • Could you add "WearOS" as well? Thank you.

        • @scotty

  • Got a feature I'd really love to have, in popular deals I would like there to be an option for deals popular in 1 day, gets kinda annoying going through popular weekly deals then checking out any news ones from there. (I know i can go through each category and order by deals rather than new but its a lot of unnecessary work)

A minor and not important feature is having something like a points system on profiles, trolls and people that don't provide new information would have lower scores so it would be easier to take their advice with a grain of salt.

    • Popular one day deals are all on the home page?

      • Oh! I've never gone on the homepage before. This is embarrassing…

    • Like this?

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else's PMs look like this at the moment.

Dunno if there's something going on @scotty but thought I'd check just in case.

    • 1628 msgs in 1 convo?!

      That's a lot of sexting

      • Shhhhhh

      • No it's not. I have plenty more too.

Why aren't you subbed to Clear reveals all?

    • I'll push out a fix tomorrow morning.

      • Thanks! It has been fixed! Cheers!

  • Hi Scotty,

Can you please put user replies in a new replies/comments tab / button in both the dropdown notification icon and see all section?
Right now, it is very hard to find user replies/comments from subscription deals in notifications.

Feature request - new user replies comments tab/button in notification dropdown menu and see all page

-notification should have separate comments tab from deals tab with new message alert icon that indicate how many new user replies we got
and it should contain history of all user replies in that tab.

  • Hey so the "New Deals" sidebar on the front page is no longer showing the number of comments. Was that a deliberate thing?

  • Suggestion: Put a block button on the users profile page or the little pop up that shows up when you click the username in a thread.

Blocking a is a bit painful at the moment going through the whole my account , edit , blocked , add , then seaching the user name and picking the exactly correct one.

Might increase usage of this feature and prevent more unnecessary comments in threads of users doing keybord warrior battle.

    • Just hit the hide link underneath any comment, forum post, or deal. eg:

      hide comment

  • Suggestion: Include a dropdown menu below Cashback on the post page for gift card options (i.e. the gift cards that can be used with the merchant and the discount they can be bought for as outlined in the wiki page), if any.

There are some members that appear to blindy upvote lots of deals, especially crappy rep posts. This makes a mockery of the "Performance-Based Store Bans" for Store Representatives & Associates.

The vote average for the store's rep posts over the last 90 days is less than or equal to 1

I think this figure is way too low and needs to be raised to 5 minimum. If a deal post from a Rep can't get at least 5 upvotes then that store isn't really worthy to be on Aus number one bargain website.

    • That has been addressed in the guidelines you have linked to:

Sep 2020: The algorithm may now exclude excessive voters from the performance ban calculation

In the first 10 days of this month, 11 stores have received performance based bans.

      • +2

Yes I'm aware of that but not sure who those members are or how it's implemented. I'm guessing their votes appear as normal upvotes just like every other member. This has an impact on how other members vote or decide to buy.

Are those members even aware their votes don't count, did they get a warning?

        • We have 2 levels of excessive voting, the first level is simply not counting their votes in the performance based ban calculation, the user is not aware and they can vote as normal. The second level also blocks their account from voting further (temporarily, for some days), the user is aware of that and can't vote as normal.

  • Suggestion:
Hi, just a suggestion but maybe a page with all the redemption or free gift style of promotions available.
For example, here are a couple link to them. Maybe a page in the forums or something dedicated to it?
    https://www.boschbluecrew.com.au/Promotions
    https://www.aegpowertools.com.au/promotions
    https://promotions.breville.com.au/

The buy this and we send you a free gift when you register. - Just a suggestion as previously they have been their own bargain post, and i know with some of them they are ongoing promotions.

    • Like that?

      • I get This topic does not exist yet….

        • Point was: you can create it yourself. Anyone can; you don't need to a mod/admin for that; the pages are wikis.

  • Suggestion:

being able to upvote from the landing page for seasonal events:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/pages/boxing-day

At the moment, it sends you to the deal instead

  • Feedback? Observation?

This comment, I posted (no urls etc). As soon as I refreshed the page it was removed as spam. Then about a minute later, it was back.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13171450/redir

Seemed very odd. My guess is either a mod accidentally removed the wrong post, or the spam filter got a little trigger happy (and it was undone in less than a minute - impressive!).

Not a complaint, just thought I'd point it out in case other people pointed out the same issue

Ps- thanks Scotty for the birthday parties

    • There is a site that is in our SPAM filter that resembles 2 of the words you mentioned in the that comment. The SPAMMERs obfuscate their site with sometimes just the words. So our filter auto-removes the comment but it also triggers a notification in our Slack room, so we all saw it happen and we manually republished within 60 seconds.

It's been running for 6 months, so at around 100,000 comments a month let's say out of 600,000 this is the only false negative I've seen, funningly in a comment on a post about probability. :)

      • Thanks Neil :)

  • Suggestion: Enable subscription to product categories (as currently available to product tags).

    • +1

Depends what category you're referring to?

EG Travel Category up the top left has a sub button

      • +1

Yeah, sorry, got the terminology all switched:

Suggestion: Enable subscription to product categories tags (as currently available to product tags models and categories).

E.g., we can't currently subscribe to Tablet or Graphics Card, which would be most useful when someone is on the market for a product class, not a specific model.
