      • although they said they will update, my estimated next payment is still showing $56.54
I'm going to check optus webchat soon again

        • Don't waste time on web chat submit a complaint. Get a local rep to follow up. After 2 attempts this was by far the easiest method.

  • Picking up from auspost shortly. Don’t know the courier never attempted delivery.

  • Picked up today as well. Still not showing picked up though.. Not a bad little tablet 👍

  • Nice I picked up mine as well. Looks great!
On my Optus account, it says
    Payment Summary
    Estimated amount
    $12.50

  • Does unused data rollover?

    • No it's not. when limit is reached, it gets throttled. considered "unlimited".

  • Received mine today (64gb), and service activated but was charged $25 for the plan. Contacted customer service via the chat, and was told my account will be credited with $12.50.
Device credit was applied as stated.

  • Mine says 12.50.
And it took 24 hours for sim activation.

  • got mine a few days ago.
typical startrack - walked to the door, didn't knock or ring the bell, started to write out an "attempted delivery" card, all whilst I was watching
i'd be very disapointed if I'd paid anywhere near RRP for this
my old ipad pro 11 and 2nd gen pro 12.9 are still much much better

it's a great deal, though i'd only be using it as a spare tablet - for the kitchen or for kids if you have them
the screen is hot garbage - the main issue, yet probably one of the most important ones
    speakers are pretty decent
    built quality feels great

    • why would they do that when they already made the effort to walk all the way to the door?
isnt ringing or knocking a lot easier than writing out the card?
      so silly of them.

128GB models now shipping - a guy in my work office just got the SMS notification from Optus.

    • I also received email notification for my 128GB, happy days!

  • +1

Optus activated different service number to what was mentioned in the contract.

They have applied $12.5 credit correctly but full amount was charged for device though the contract received in order confirmation email showed $44.04 device credit each month. Optus chat is of no help.

    What to do here?

    • +1

I can't edit my comment so writing a new comment.

I can see the delivery notification sms and contract has same order and mobile number. When the sim was activated, they assigned a totally different mobile number and chat representative is insisting that old contract was cancelled as new number was assigned and full device payment is applicable as previous promo is no longer available. Looks like they intentionally provided new number to avoid device credit. Very misleading and deceptive!!

Is TIO the way to go?

      • Show/send them the first contract which shows device credits $44.04/ month up to 12 months of service. It's on the order email confirmation(received on the day your ordered it), unless they sent new contract without the device credits then you'll be talking to tio.

        • Yes already shared copy of old contract on the chat, but cheeky bastard sent me new contract containing new service number. This updated contract didn't obviously have any device credit.

I never received this contract until today. I have raised a complaint, let's see how it goes.

      • +1

Did you speak to reps before receiving it? I made effort before it got sent to have it all checked over and here is the next estimate for me.

    • +1

Same happened to me. Device credit and plan discount gone. Raised a complaint

      • +1

same here. how did you guys raise a complaint about this?

the story for me is that my original order never came, then when I called them up, they cancelled the original order, then created a new one.
In the email that followed the new order, it had plan pdf attached (the original order email did not have it). I saw the device cost $44.04 per month and my optus sport was not included.

I chat with live chat via app, told her the whole story. She said she could not do anything other than put a note in the system until the service is activated.
Luckily, I took a screenshot of the order page when I was doing the order form which showed $0 for the device ($44.04 discount) and Optus Sport opt-in for free.
I just need to wait for they activate the service before contacting them again to change the condition of the plan?

I also asked her to confirm that I can keep the device for no cost if stay for min. 12 months, but she hopelessly could not confirm until the service is activated…

I just had very distressing few days trying to sort this all out. The same thing happened to me where Optus told me that my contract was cancelled because they ran out of stock!

I called Optus to raise this issue. The first person I spoke to said that they cannot honour the same price anymore. I argued back but he didn't budge.

Tried again the next day with a different person. He said the same thing saying they cannot honour the same price because the contract has been cancelled. But I told him the same story again and he later said that I can place a new order for the same device, and that he has put a note in my file to say that the promotion price will be honoured and credit will be applied.

I went to a Optus store today, and they had stock of the Samsung A8. I put a new order in with the same service number. Came home and called Optus requesting to apply the credit. Long story short, it took 1.5 hours on the phone between talking and waiting before they admitted and honoured the price. I must say the guy that gave me that acknowledgement at the end didn't sound too pleasant. He was trying to brush me off. Bit cheesed off, but I got what I wanted at the end after having to explain the same story 20 times.

I will check with Optus again in a few days to confirm that the discount has been applied.

        • Can I please have a copy of the screenshot? I'm having similar chat discussions. My contract says 36 months too.

        • you should go to ask TIO for help. and give Optus the TIO reference no.

    • +2

I have a similar case too.
I still cannot get my confirmation and device yet. I have sent email to TIO. and Optus Customer Resolutions Team have been involved..
      but they love playing tricks….
      1. in the beginning, they said my order is stuck in credit check. and said I won't get my device…(I have chatted with more than 4 experts via optus messager)
      2. I told them I will send email to TIO. Then, someone called me and tried to promote other mobile device plan to compensate the order…and I said' NO.'
      3. I sent mail to TIO. next day, Optus Customer Resolution Team called me.. and said I did not have credit issue and my order will be processed later. However,
resolution team sent me a mail which was missing 'the device discount' statement in the mail.. I replied and make clear the statement what I want. however, he have not reply me yet. I tried to call him with his direct-line..but I cannot reach him….
      4. I contacted optus team again via optus app. this time, they said' my order was struck in credit check. but he will help me to process the order. he want to process the order before confirm the summary first. I said' I need to read the contract' . he sent me the contract without ' device discount' and '50% off on the data plan'. I told him it is not my plan and order. he modified and sent me other contract which still missing' device discount.' I point out the issue. He replied me , the discount is finished. this is a new contract which would not have the device discount anymore. I said' no way, this is trick.' he replied me ' he will pass my case to case expert. I am tired to 'play' with them. I cannot believe this big company will play this dirty tricks…i think i will ask TIO to provide more help…

      • I directly emailed CEO and got resolution within 1 day.

Amazon lightning sales on a couple of Procase cases for this tablet. Should/could stack with the Cashrewards cashback - decent price even if not.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09ND4BZ5C ($12.74)
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09NJHWTS5 ($14.44)

Second one was more recommended in a recent Procase thread

    • +2

I bought this 2 days ago (2nd one). Its bulky and cover doesnt sit properly. Search for jetech case. Their screen protector is also good.

      • Have/Can you returned it?

        • No free return. It cost around 8 AUD to return on change of mind

      • What was wrong with it? I've had same case for tab A and it's been great, nearly 3 years and still going strong.

        • It's think and bulky. If you break any of controls push buttons on the case, it's waste. If you are looking for slimline one, I wouldn't suggest it.

      • not sure about their cases, but their screen protector is great. comes with a frame for easier installation. didn't use the frame but i think it would've made things a lot easier.

        • Procase doesn't come with frame but jetech does. If you have procase case and scren protector, u need to align it perfectly. A slight misalignment will case the thick case to push the screen protector up.

      • we got the 2nd one too, its thicker on the sides compared to the 1st one but should offer some additional protection. Just depends what your priority is.

The cover should sit properly, you need to click it in pretty hard for the last 2 corners.

Jeez, these guys don't make it easy to actually start paying them… Received it on Monday after not hearing any shipping confirmation. Never auto activated the service.
Apparently can't activate over chat. So now I've been waiting over 30mins to talk to someone to get it activated so I can actually start paying and using data.
But in the meantime, I've got the device I wanted and not paying a cent… I don't even know if they know I've got it.

    What are these guys on?

    • My activation wasn't automatically done too. Could’ve kept the tab longer, but I did send them a message in chat. Activated immediately over the chat. Try different reps perhaps?

    • If more then 24 hours, just restart the tab and it will automatically register it. Happened to me for both tabs

      • I've restarted a few times since. Still nothing. Chat today said that the activation was 'stuck'. Assured me that he was raising it with IT team, and it would be fixed asap.
Yet, here I am 6 hours later still with no service…

    • So you can use the tablet, acess the internet via wifi, but just not Mobile 4G until activated?

Mine was delivered on Wednesday, still in the box, wondering when/whether to get this activated if they're not sending me a bill?!

      • Yep, can use the tablet fine, just have no 4g activated so haven't got any bill or anything. So, honestly I'm fine with it if they've forgotten about it, since I'm out of pocket $0.

Just weird that they're not getting it sorted…

  • I have the tablet, now I can't seem to get my account sorted, so need to chat to Optus, now I can't find a link for online chat anymore. Has anyone got a direct link for chat at all?

    • +1

Login with the new phone number and it will link to your account.

  • What's going on with Optus, my order is still "being processed" since 24 April 22.

    • Did you get your tab?

  • This tablet is so basic! I wouldn't pay a cent more

    • +2

Yeah I kind of got the same feeling. Google really shockingly messed up the tablet side of Android. It's really sad to say this but I reckon this tablet is similar in performance to an air 2 from 2014. The main saving grace is Samsung China's good hardware build quality including the laminated screen tech.
I know this is an entry tablet but this was released in Jan this year, you'd think it'd be a lot better than a mid ranger that's from 8 years ago.

      • totally agree. we have an old ipad air 2 in the house which I've used now and then and it fine. I loaded up pubg mobile (now an older shooter) and it just cant handle it. pretty sad for a new device I thought

      • Samsung entry level tablets are always the same. They sound like a good deal and that’s why the are at the end given away by telcos

    • If only it worked with the S pen.

    • +1

      totally agree.
feels like it's worth the $150. RRP would be a joke

  • has anyone noticed rough finish on the screen edges for devices shipped as part of the promotion? the glass protrudes from the edges and is sharp.

    • I've seen a few from the deal and they all look normal.

  • +2

Finally got my service activated and they are also charging $56.54/month.

Chat aren't budging either. They say there are 2 contracts for the service number and the first was incorrect. But that's the only one I received.

Having to go through TIO to try to rectify. Kind of regretting this deal honestly…

    • +1

      floptus f#$* up

      • +3

Seriously, how do you just make a new contract with new terms to what was agreed to (even if it's 'fixing an error'), and never actually provide it to the other party to confirm and accept it?

I don't think they understand how contacts work…

If they'd provided that contract I would have rejected and cancelled before I got the device rather than be stuck with those payments I never agreed to.

    • +1

Same deal with me. They billed me $12.5 first month and then they sent me a contract with $526 and no device credit. The second month invoice was $54.05
And when I spoke to support expert on Chat, she first denied my claim then agreed to fix it in 24 hours. And yet no change. In fact, they sent me a second order contract with a different service number and same terms without device credit. Trying to solve 1st contract now on chat. And replied the second contract via return email that I never order this tab.

      • Good luck! Let us know how you go.
I've been told a case manager will contact me in 24-48 hours, but I have my doubts I'll hear from anyone…

    • At that stage why would you do live chat? Go in store and cause a scene.

      • If I don't hear from anyone by Monday I will, but it literally just got activated yesterday and finding time to go to a store with a newborn is not easy. Figured it could be fixed up easily enough by looking at the contract…

        • You can expect anything from Optus.

My delivery SMS contained order and service number as per original contract. At time of SIM activation, they changed the service number so new contract was applied with no device credit. $12.5 plan was correctly applied.

Raised it with TIO and got contacted by Optus customer resolution team. We agreed on resolution, but the outcome letter she sent still had no device credit and only mentioned about $12.5 credit. Since then we had many exchanges and she is claiming that she sent the right outcome and discount was correctly applied. She is bluntly claiming that the complaint has been resolved though $12.5 plan discount was not even part of complaint.

          Whole Optus team is incompetent..

Waiting for TIO representative to now pick it up.

          • @Ash-Say: Same!

          • @Ash-Say: Update: seems to be resolved. Had a call from the customer resolution team earlier in the week following TIO complaint.

Initially he also didn't seem to see the issue, until I pointed out the section in the contract with the device credits (Very glad I downloaded the contract, as I can't find it now). He said it's not normally only noted there and usually appears above as a negative charge in the details.
But agreed that it should have been applied and has adjusted my bills to reflect it. Now showing 12.50 for next month. Can't see the credit from first month which he said should also be there though.

        • Honestly how did this happen? Nothing happened to mine even added optus sport for 12 month free as well.

    • Same issue… and after a couple of months of it not being resolved, I thought I would check this thread to see if anyone else has had it.
Currently on hold with Optus as they escalate the matter, but if its not resolved I guess I'll have to go through TIO.
Have honestly spent more time on the issue than the tablet is worth…

    • Same here. It still showing I have to pay 69.04

      • +1

Don't waste too much time with their general support, especially the online support as they are quite incompetent. Get them to escalate it to the customer resolution team. Mine thankfully got sorted today.

        • I did that, they fixed it for one payment. Next month the same issue

  • Gees I just remembered I ordered this but haven't received anything. Am I supposed to chase them up? I have a confirmation screenshot etc. But I didn't receive any emails and it doesn't show up in my optus acct.

  • +2

    What's happening?
As a highly valued Optus customer, we have been providing you with access to Optus Sport, which currently costs $14.99/month, on a complimentary basis.

From 1 August 2022, an Optus Sport subscription will be increasing to $24.99/month. As you continue to be a highly valued Optus customer, we will be offering you a special discounted price of $6.99/month.

everyone received the email about we need to pay $6.99/month since 1 AUG 2022 for the Optus Sport subscription? I thought it will be free for the 12months with the contract terms.

    • +1

i cancelled mine anyone cause i don't watch but I support you challenging them arbitrarily changing the contract terms!

      • +4

i cancelled mine anyone cause i don't watch but I support you challenging them arbitrarily changing the contract terms!

        From the contract:

Charges may apply to optional extras, including entertainment services. By signing up to an optional extra, you agree that it is subject to change. We’ll try to give you at least 21 days’ prior notice of a change, however, this does not entitle you to terminate your plan.

    • I haven't received any email yet

  • Want to thank op. Basically got that device for free now combined from some of the freebies associated with getting a phone number.

    • ;-)

      not bhed

  • What do we do 12 months from now to avoid paying any extra?

    • Port out

    • Make sure your cost to cancel is $0 and hit up support to cancel service.

  • Is $12.50 per month for 30gb a decent mobile data deal in its own right? I'm tempted to keep it after the 12 months

    • +1

It's $12.50 per month for 12 months. After that it goes back to $25/month.

      • -2

Ah damn. Maybe should have selected 36 months!

  • Anybody got cashback approved from cashrewards.mine got rejected.

    • Rejected? Pending confirm date is 25/07

      • Did you enquire why it was rejected? Mine shows pending date 27/07

        • I meant that as a question. My still pending. I am assuming their didn't track.

    • My $55 pending cb is now showing as $0….

  • +7

my god the table is so sh*t in terms of its display.. bluish tint all over and no control to set the color tone settings.

  • Anyone have this case https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/115260439087
    Any good?

    • Mine is for tab A 2019, been really good and still going strong after nearly 3 years although getting a bit frayed on the material on the flaps

  • +3

I think I'm the first person to say that my cashback was approved and available. Thanks to our mates at cashrewards

    • +2

Glad to hear- mine is still pending with est. approval date of 22/7.

  • They have stock now but if you select 12 months the device repayment is at $44~ for 12 months.

$44 for 12 months when you can buy it for $300~ elsewhere? What the hell are they smoking

    • Lmao

    • $44 for 12 months when you can buy it for $300~ elsewhere? What the hell are they smoking

      Where?

      • I must have been thinking of the wifi version, but corporate discounts, government store, education store has it less than $500.

$44.04~ for 12 months is $528.48~ about the same price or even less buying outright from Samsung at current retail price, especially if you take advantage of the $50 off.

Sign up for 12 months and save 50c from retail without discount. Yay

        • Sign up for 12 months and save 50c from retail without discount.

Yeah, that's how all these device repayment plans from all the telcos work. They give you a no-interest monthly payment plan but you have to pay RRP.

I think it's mainly for people who don't know about OzBargain, or people with so much cash that hunting for the best deal for such cheap purchases is a waste of time, people who want to pay it off over a year or three for financial or accounting reasons, or people who get phone plans paid for by work so they don't care about deals.

  • Woww… received $42 cashback through shopback.

    • Goot to know also had $42 with shopback but still pending.

      • I received $49 cashback and its confirmed. Thanks Shopback
