This one started today, but I went into my Optus App to get it and there was a 50% off data sim offer that stacked with the $0 Tablet.

Has to be 30gb data plan or above.

So my deal was

$12.50 x 12 Months
Tab A8 64gb 4G
30 GB Data added to my data pool
$150 total cost.

        • The delivery guy refused to give the delivery to my partner even though she had her ID with her. Bit annoying that I now have to make a trip over to the post office after work when I shouldn't have had to.

            The point is for them to deliver the device to the person who signed up for the plan. If you bought a phone or tablet from an Optus shop you have to do it in person too, you can't sign up for someone else.

            • @eug: Yeah it makes sense, just a shame that others seem to have been able to get others to collect for them and I wasn't able to do the same.

    Just got it delivered.
    Can calculate the predicted cost now: $12.5/Month x 12 = $150 - $55 (Cashback) = $95 - $10 (Amex Optus Offer) = $85 over 12 Months.

  • received tab today, but sim takes 48 hours to activate as mentioned by optus chat due to "slow system".

    • My chat said 4 hrs which i think is the standard response.
      I'm trying every hour

        • I tried via the QR code, but my phone wouldnt recognise it as anything worth clicking. (super small QR)
          Tried a googled activation/optus page, said my Sim was locked and need to chat/call someone.
          Chatted, they did it apparently and said wait 4 hrs and reboot….waiting

          You should receive an email from Optus.

          Also should see it when you sign into your Optus account under Payment summary.

            • @Kahbo: Yeah if you have only recently activated then it might take a couple of weeks or so to show up. Mine was activated early May I think and I only received the Optus payment email a few days back.

    • Depends what you signed up for…
      There was a 24 month and 36 month option available if you wanted to pay more

      • 12 month term as the sim is month to month. The tablet is paid off after 12 months.

    • If thats the plan/option you selected during signup….

  • Got my two today. Very surprised but worth the wait.
    They can stay boxed up till I buy some cases now.

    • I have to use Optus App and message to the guy to activate it for me. You will talk with Bot first then a person will help you.

          I don’t think you can do that.
          Mine got activated by itself this morning, received a message & email from Optus about it. I haven’t even opened the SIM kit.

        • Same situation for me as well. Not activated yet though SIM in tab. No emails or sms. Just leaving it as it is.

  • Anybody had any issues updating their device? I just sat down and was installing all my usual apps and then saw I had a system update and while carrying out the update, the phone stopped at about 80% and now it just boots to a green screen saying 'Security Error - This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software and is locked. Call your mobile operator for additional support'

    Also has a little black box in the corner saying 'Binary Version Mismatch : Boot'

    Edit: I just tried entering download mode to flash the firmware manually with ODIN and I occidentally held power+sound down instead of up and it rebooted and began updating again and is now running as it should. If anyone else runs into the same issue, give that a go.

    • Software updated ok to Build No RP1A.200720.012.X205XXS1AVE1. It's still Android 11 though but with Android security patch level 1 May 2022.

      Will this table see Android 12 sometime in the future?

  • Was wondering if someone can assist me, i haven’t been able to sign in to my optus account for over a month, every time i try and sign in it says “sorry we’re having technical difficulties right now, so you can’t login. Please try again later” i can’t find a way to login to my account, is anyone having the same problem and know how i can login?

    • Need an active service with Optus.

      • I have one, i used to be able to open the app and it would already have me signed in then one day when i opened the app up it was asking me to sign back in again, ever since then i haven’t been able to sign back in with that error always coming up

        • I deleted my app and re-installed it. Paired with my new number it had no issues.

    • Not sure if works for you. I had the same problem, I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, it worked

      Facebook Marketplace has a pile of these unopened tabs for $350, not sure if they are selling or not though.

      Exactly same for me. I sold my iPad 6th gen on marketplace for $275 when I got the delivery notification. The screen quality and user experience isn’t as good as iPad but at least get to use mobile data when on the go!

      Screen aspect ratio and sound is better for watching media on the A8, I've also switched from an old ipad (which had way better fingerprint unlock than the sketchy facial unlock on the A8).

  • Looks like Star track was busy yesterday delivering Tablets. Got mine yesterday, no notification from star track or optus that it was coming. And SIM hasn't activated yet. Not a real problem, I have to use the other 140Gb that I have on shared date yet. Looks like a lot of donated data for the next year.

    • Check your contract and it should say "You are eligible for a device discount as a $44.04 per month credit for up to 12 months on service number 04xx xxx xxx. To receive this device credit you
      must maintain an active mobile service on an eligible plan with Optus for the 12 months."

      • Indeed I have same statement in the contract and I have escalated to optus, hopefully they will fix for me,

      • I never received contract but received the tablet. But the initial order email has $12.5 monthly charge.
