    • Quoting from the main page for Telstra Day on Telstra's website "New to Telstra? You’ll be prompted to set up an ID at checkout on the day."

No cost. You just register during purchase.

  • +4

I wish they'd have all the capacity sizes on special and not just 128GB.

  • -2

I'm surprised people still use Telstra

    • only those that run a business and need reception in rural areas, the rest use Aldi for on the go insta and Fakebook lol

      • … and Ozbargain. Please don't forget that. Fair call re rural

      • Why would business need Telstra?? The OzBargain standard, Boost, is literally Telstra and way cheaper.

PS. Fact Check: no one needs Fakebook. lol

        • -1

Boost is another Kogan using their lower grade services from Telstra and Voda respectively

          • -1

@vinni9284: Lower grade? They use the same service

            • @Griffindinho: Yes but with caveats. Like driving a full performance car with a speed governor and no A/C

          • -1

@vinni9284: This is not correct; Boost are the only MVNO to use the full telstra network, including 4GX and currently 5G (though that is a “trial”)

            • @get-innocuous: Trial = Beta testing lol

              https://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Guides/Telstra-ne…

However, just because MVNOs use the Telstra network doesn’t necessarily mean they’re equal. One of the main drawbacks of using a Telstra MVNO is that they don't have access to the 5G network. That's not to say that they won't get access to the high speed 5G network later on down the track, but for now, if you want 5G you'll need to be with Telstra proper.

              Posted 12th April 2022

You don't get more or same for less

              • @vinni9284: Still it isn’t worth the premium over the boost offerings.

                • @Griffindinho: Didn't say it was however my point is that not all are equal although they claim.

              • -1

@vinni9284: It currently has identical coverage to telstra, and come the end of the 5G trial in September it will have identical coverage to Telstra’s cheapest plan (which is $58/m) - i.e. full telstra network except 5G.

No other MVNO has access to Telstra’s 4GX towers, which is the usual difference.

                • -2

                  @get-innocuous:

                  full telstra network except 5G.

So is it absolutely 💯 identical to the Telstra coverage including 5G or not?

                  If not then a caveat

      • The rural area thing is a bit hit and miss. I use Optus and Telstra and their connection depends on which side of the street I am calling from or if its a tourist weekend (optus looses bandwith on 3g to 5g)

    • +8

I'm surprised people still use Telstra

You're surprised that people want the best network with the best coverage?

      • You're surprised that people want the best network with the best coverage?

Boost mobile use the full Telstra network, so you can still get the same coverage at a lower price.

        • Boost mobile use the full Telstra network, so you can still get the same coverage at a lower price.

Sure, but that is 'still using Telstra'…

      • Ok. Are you in the Telstra commercial BTW?

    • JB hifi deal is so good that makes ppl like me using Telstra but i have to admit, you get what u pay for

      • you get what u pay for

That cliche is too overused these days.
I like in Metro and I can tell you that I have a very good ISP that works well and not charge exorbitant rates like Telstra

        • Not everyone stays in the vicinity between their office and their home in the CBD though. Some of us like to travel out the city from time to time and still have service on their phone.

          • @Ridiculous Panda: I have Kogan mobile (aka Voda) and have travelled rural many times. In March this year, drove from NSW to VIC and had minimal drop in signal. So I guess it depends where you are. Several years back, when I was with Telstra and they were the monopoly, I also lost phone signal from time to time (late model phone). But I completely understand if you are remote, why you would opt for Telstra. They were great a few years back. But IMO they have gone down hill. Especially to justify their exorbitant charges and their lack of customer support

            • +1

@vinni9284: 90% of FIFO workers use telstra as that's all that's available in the mines.

Vodafail has the worst coverage and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Vodafail is the worst network of them all

              • @princess_nik_nak: Yeah I get it. Re Vodafail web invented by some young IT dude and had a following back in 2006 when they were atrocious .. but they've invested heaps to revive the brand otherwise it won't exist today. You go pay $110 p/m for your Telstra paltry 20GB per month plan, whilst I pay $230 for 365 day & 500GB plan with Vodafail that hardly fails in 2022

    • I use Telstra to get JB hifi vouchers, is that allowed ?

  • How long do they going to take to ship these orders? Any chance to get it from store?

    • +1

apparently as little as 2 hours delivery in certain areas. Telstra is usually very quick with deliveries even to non capital cities though. Not sure about super rural.

    • +1

Via Telstra chat they said I could go in to a Telstra shop to buy it, also stated the 13 pro max 256 gb was discounted

  • can we just buy it outright with no phone plan attached?

    • +1

This is outright but only requires a Telstra ID to buy one.

    • Yes

  • Hope Amazon matches and no need to make bloody Telstra IDs

    • would love this

    • +1

I mean its not a huge hassle to sign up to save a few hundred

      • Bro do you know whether the signup gives instant access to the id or do i need to wait until i receive my sim

        • I heard you can also buy in store at the mentioned price above and im sure they'd sort you out no problem. worst case you are only at a $2 loss if you sign up for the prepaid and don't end up getting ID instantly.

  • +1

I still have Telstra app in my phone and can login, though i dont have any active service w Telstra (cancelled around 6 months ago). Do i still have a telstra id?

    • i want to know this too. don't want to wait for the day then find out I cannot buy it

    • +3

If you can log onto the website then you're good.

  • That’s a good price

    • -3

      If is the 512GB yes.

  • Can purchase more than one Phone? Or limited?

    • From past experience, the system may detect you as fraud or it may detect the second order a duplicate order. It’s a hit and a miss.

      • Thanks - will give it a shot one by one, hopefully it works out

  • What about Officeworks price beat?

    • give them a call and find out?

    • As you need a Telstra ID/ service, they will likely reject it as there's terms and conditions to the sale.

      • Yeah. I’ll wait until the day and go into the store. If I ring them now, they’ll likely say that can and then when I go to do it they’ll reject it based on what you’ve said. That’s the kind of luck I usually have!

  • I have a Telstra ID as my broadband is through Telstra, however I have a prepaid SIM with Belong. Would this still work for me?

    • Yes

    • You have a Telstra ID and that's all you need. Belong won't matter since it's not a Telstra ID.

  • Can I purchase via CommBank credit card and qualify for cashback as well? ($1500 spend $300 cashback)

    • Yes would like to know too

    • +4

What card is it available on? Diamond Awards? Where can I find details on this deal? Thanks!

      • could just google "commbank cash back 1500 spend 300 back offer"…

        • Ok, thank you. Looks like it’s a perk of a new card only.

          • @Ievgen: yep, generally these deals are limited to new cards to attract new customers : )

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Sure, just thought it may be something for existing cardholders that I didn’t know about. All good.

              • @Ievgen: np! have a good evening.

  • Can I use shopback to get $45 cashback

    • yes …

if you sign up to a plan? what does the cashback rates say?

      • Oops sorry, it says only applies to the plans

  • I just bought a brand new iPhone 12 128gb the other day for $750. I can’t justify how the iPhone 13 would be $250 better. Anyone who has used both, think the iPhone 12 was better for that price?

    • Where did you buy an iPhone 12 for $750?

      • +2

Oh it was on gumtree, I should’ve mentioned that sorry.

Also bought a second hand one, 93% battery health for 680, immaculate condition, but looking at these iPhone 13 prices, I think the savings I made are worthwhile considering the iPhone 13 upgrades aren’t that substantial.

        • Thanks, thought I missed a good iPhone 12 deal.

        • +1

New phone and better battery and warranty

        • The battery life is substantial. Probably the most notable upgrade. Phone can last multiple days, with heavy use, without a charge.

    • $750 is cheap for brand new. JB hifi current price is $1079

Pre-owned are still selling for ~$700

      • Not sure how brand new it would be if bought on gumtree. Warranty?

        • +1

I can only think of one kind of person that would sell a brand new sealed iPhone 12 at $750.

  • Afterpay or not

  • +1

this is perfect! finally can get rid of my S22 Ultra and not pay too much on top for the 13 pro.

    • +1

S22 was just released this year. Why change so soon?

      • +2

if only you knew how efficient the S22 battery is

        • +1

Sadly, that is the case, hence why I got rid of it and was regretful that I sold my iPhone 13 Pro Max, wanting to go back but then, iPhone 14 is around the corner too. Decisions…

          • +1

@cloudie9: its a shithouse. great phone but battery is crucial. I'm travelling a lot this year and battery anxiety is a big NO NO. when I was 17 I cared a lot about the cool android features but now as an adult I need something I can rely on. it working well with my Mac ecosystem is another +1

I unplugged my s22 U today at 9.30am and now its 2.58pm and its at 69% (nice) battery with 1 hr 10 mins of SOT. which isn't really that spectacular.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Yeah, I couldn’t agree more I have gone through the same process. I had a 13 pro, prefer android so picked up an s22. Battery was terrible lasted 14 hours with 2 hours SOT. Took it back and got the s22 ultra, battery life was better but still not good enough for a huge phone.

Took the ultra back and grabbed an iPhone 13 with the intention of grabbing a 14 when they release. Even the base level 13 has better battery then the s22 ultra IMO.

              • @bazz: This gen I've seen a lot more people switch from samsung to iPhone. Im downsizing from a note style phone to normal sized phone for the first time. hope it goes well : D s22 U -> 13 pro alpine, now just waiting on that telstra deal to go live

      • +2

not satisfied by the battery life whatsoever, given its a $1800 phone. the upgrade is only costing me about 200 once I sell or trade this in so its not really a big deal. I need the peace of mind of an all day heavy use battery and S22 U is not that phone Im afraid.

  • Never purchase a deal from Telstra day, are they hard to get like ebay?

  • shame the pro is 128gb model, really need the 256

  • I am tempted to get the 13 or 13 Pro at this price but also conscious that 14 is probably getting released in September. Not sure if I should cop one of these or wait for the new one, any thoughts?

    • Sources say that 14 might be delayed. And prices might be higher.

      • +2

I think its very likely that they will be higher

    • I would also like to know

    • +2

Rumours point to the 14 being one of the smallest updates in history, even using the same SOC. If there's one to skip it seems like it's the 14. The 15 will be the big change with USB-C and the notch being replaced with smaller cutouts, and a big new camera system.

  • +1

    AFTERPAY?

    • I don't think so

    • Yes, at Officeworks if you an get them to pricebeat - though I couldn't find any payments methods on Telstra besides Visa/MCard/Amex

  • Where is the usual HODL gang??? HODL gpu but not iphones?

Iphone 14 coming out in 2 months ish, always a decent pricedrop for older gens after…
