Google One Storage Monthly/Yearly 100GB (A$0.50/$5.02) 200GB (A$1.00/$10.04) 2TB (A$2.51/$25.11) @ Google Turkey (VPN Required)

Reposting this deal from 2021, credits to the original poster @Pricebeat and @neo479

Due to the significant change in currency exchange rates, prices are now around 50% lower than last year. I've done the currency conversions from Turkish Lira to Australian Dollars and the percentage of savings so you don't have to :)

Storage Monthly Cost (% Savings) Yearly Cost (% Savings)
100 GB AUD $0.50 (80% off AUD RRP) AUD $5.02 (80% off AUD RRP)
200 GB AUD $1.00 (77% off AUD RRP) AUD $10.04 (77% off AUD RRP)
2 TB AUD $2.51 (80% off AUD RRP) AUD $25.11 (80% off AUD RRP)
5 TB AUD $12.58 AUD $125.78
10 TB AUD $25.15 N/A
20 TB AUD $50.30 N/A
30 TB AUD $75.45 N/A

I remember doing this on an iPhone a few months back (as I don't have an android). So I'm guessing the device does not matter. I just resubscribed today to a new plan, on a PC. So here's my experience, and it took literally minutes.

Step 1: Change your Google payment profile to Turkey. If needed, use a fake address simulator like this one

Step 2: VPN (fly) to Turkey using the deal link above (I used the free Windscribe Chrome extension; although it was a bit tricky since Windscribe kept connecting me to random Turkey locations - in this case just disconnect and reconnect until you land on Istanbul or something, or use a different VPN. Nord VPN does not work). if the currency is shown in Turkish Lira, you've hit the jackpot

Step 3: Subscribe to the plan of your choice. Use a credit/debit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 4: Fly back home

EDIT 2:27 AM: After serious testing I've found the following:

  1. Regards to AussieMark's comment here

    • I just did some testing and it looks like you can share your Google One with family members - IT'S POSSIBLE! The only catch is you have to add the family members / accounts into the family first, before taking one of the accounts and subscribing through this deal. TO ADD FAMILY MEMBERS GO TO https://families.google.com/families

  2. For those who currently have Youtube Premium from Argentina, and want to sign up to this deal on top on the Google account - IT'S POSSIBLE, simply create a new payment profile for Turkey

    • If pricing initially shows Turkish but switches back to AUD, try this method: You might see the 3 columns show Australian pricing, but select the 2tb and go to next screen and check it changes to TRY currency. if this doesn't work, then I think you have to delete the Australian payment profile. You can always make a new one after, but be aware that deleting your Australian profile will destroy all your Google Play Credits
    • You can create a new payment profile by following these steps by alcheron: go to https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings and clicking the pen icon next to "Country/Region" and a link to create a new profile should pop up. You can then add details for the Turkish profile.

Hope this helps!

EDIT 12:00 PM: You need to turn on family sharing after signing up to this plan to actually share the storage. To do this, go to the Google One site and click on the Gear settings icon (alternatively click on this link, then go to "Manage Family Settings" and toggle it on. This step assumes you've sared it with other members before signing up to this plan, as you cannot add family members anymore after if their account locations are not in the same country

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all. Copying some notes from @bargainsgrabber

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:
    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. If it does not work, I am not affiliated with any of the entities listed below or linked to and cannot guarantee any outcome. I can only read comments on this platform and others to share them with you. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not take it personally.

          • @concento: You can't. Your credit doesn't carry over with you to Turkey

        • looks like its not available for iOS in Australia :(

        • Yes but I can only chose one payment method. My good rewards has $15 but yearly membership is $24.99. Dont think it allows to take $15 from rewards and rest from credit card. Any way out?

          • @amsaini15: Yes you can switch to monthly payment..then you will have enough money from rewards

    • +6

My reward questions have dried up. Barely get 1 a month now.

      • I find that you have to just randomly go in the app and it triggers more surveys YMMV

      • +1

Make sure you have locations on and go out and about. I get surveys daily. I do a lot of grocery shopping and walking near stores.

        • +1

          I love when they ask.
did you got to this store?
          Did you buy anithing?
          How did you pay?
          Can you upload receipt?

          Easy 50 cents

    • +1

100gb won't last long. 200gb will be out of pocket.

      • Out of pocket? Nope, have earnt around the $4.40 in the last month which would cover 200gb

        • How frequently would you hit over $4 a month?

I get like 3 a week some around 15cents each.

    • Was great when I had Android, now moved to iPhone, no Rewards app so stuck paying $2.49 a month..

  • +1

    Thanks OP

Just wondering, will the files be stored on the Turkey servers?

    • Don't be chicken

  • +1

Got my 2TB plan @ $25.76/year and YT Premium @ $15.1/year . Set up the Turkey location first and Created a new Gmail account before subscribing. So whatever offers come to turkey from Google, I can use the same email.

  • +3

lol i posted this over 2 hours ago

AussieMark 2 hours 10 min ago
took me about an hour or two to do this

you cannot do the family plan after you swap to turkey so make sure you set it up first.

Also there is a special toggle you need to find in Google one that says Share google one storage with family members. That one took me 10 min to find lol

Overall had to try twice as i setup turkey first before doing family plan then refunded it and swapped to another email.

Worth noting current prices are 50% lower than the title perhaps due to exchange rate

    • Ohh so you can share with family members.. you just have to do it before. Thanks!

      • Requirements for joining a family
To join a family group, you must:

        • Have a Google Account. You can't join a family with a Google Account from your work, school, or other organization.
        • Live in the same country as the family manager.
        • Not be part of another family group.
        • Not have switched family groups in the last 12 months.

Can't add an AU account to a TR account, as do not "live in the same country as the family manager".

        • Did you re-read the OP?

          • @I Smell Pennies: Which part? Can you please guide me? I remember trying the same thing for YouTube AR. Didn't work back then either…

          • @I Smell Pennies: Followed these instructions

"I just did some testing and it looks like you can share your Google One with family members - IT'S POSSIBLE! The only catch is you have to add the family members / accounts into the family first, before taking one of the accounts and subscribing through this deal. TO ADD FAMILY MEMBERS GO TO https://families.google.com/families"

            • @Ozico: First gather all the AU accounts into the family. Once the family is good to go, add a Turkey profile to one of the accounts and sign up to Google One.

After signing up, you need to turn on family sharing after signing up to this plan to actually share the storage. To do this, go to the Google One site and click on the Gear settings icon, then go to "Manage Family Settings" and toggle it on.

You must add all the family members beforehand. You can't do it after signing up

        • +1

Yea I just tried too. Created a new Turkey Google account for disney plus previously. Its payment method is already in Turkish Lira.

But when inviting an AU Google account, the invite sends - but trying to accept the invite, it says - "cannot… looks like you're in diff countries". And I dont' want to change my main account to Turkey. So looks like Family has to not just "live" but payment method be the same as family manager.

    • How did you manage to get refund? Google storage plan purchases are non-refundable.

I added my current google account to my new turkish account, but i forgot to accept the invitation before buying the 2tb plan. And now i cant join the family, because I am not in the same country, therefore this 2tb i just bought is useless. Unless there are any other alternatives (without changing my current account location to turkey).

      • I also got a full refund from all my purchases during testing last night.

I manage to get refunds everytime from Google, they're really efficient. Only takes a few mins on live chat.

        • Done! Thank you. I never realised they had live chat.

  • Does this work if I already use an account with an Argentinian address for YouTube Premium?

  • What do most people store online? I mean I still have my free 200gb OneDrive offer from years ago and never manage to use it all.

    • cuz we are ozbargainer. That simple.

    • +4

Family photos that you don't want to lose eat up plenty of storage, especially with photo file sizes growing with camera tech
Various travel documents/insurance/papers you need to access
Password database or key (not both)

      • +1

100%. My iPhone is 512 GB and it's full, so I need to offload it off

      • But photo/video backup is free anyways with google photos.

All other docs don’t seem to take up much space anyways.

        Am I missing something?

        • +1

Google Photos compresses your files if you want unlimited storage. Don't really want our beautiful high quality photos and videos looking 144p after the upload

          • @I Smell Pennies: All my photos are uploaded at original quality via Google pixel phone. I assume most people have been doing this too those that have a pixel phone?

            • +1

@TomGum: According to Google if you upload at original quality, it uses up the free 15 GB storage, you don't get unlimited storage. From what I'm reading atm

Google Photos offers two upload options: Original quality and High quality. Media uploaded using the Original quality option count against your Google storage, same as any other file. Images and videos uploaded to Google Photos using the High quality option don't count—they're free. The catch: images are compressed to 15 megapixels and videos are compressed to 1080p.

Which means photos and videos uploaded to Google Drive count against your Google storage limits. Google Photos offers free storage, as long as you're willing to compress your files.

              • +3

@I Smell Pennies: That's old, high quality counts towards storage as of this year.

            • @TomGum: Unless you're uploading from a Pixel 1 they're counting against your storage limit. Only the Pixel 1 has free unlimited original quality uploads. Only Pixel 2->5a have unlimited storage saver now too, it was removed from all other phones.

        • +1

It is not free. Nothing is truly free these days.

          • +1

@LucidDream: Free for me as far as storage is concerned. As for privacy, we’ll thats another topic!!

            • @TomGum: Don't the Pixel phones have a deal where you get free Google One storage, or has that finished now

              • @Guesty: Only the OG pixel has unlimited uncompressed uploads free for life (atleast for the time being)

        • Only Pixels have free backup. And even then it's only "high" quality compressed unless you have an older Pixel.

          • +1

@tonyamazing: Wait, I thought they removed high quality storage as well from pixel 6

            • @ar7ist: All I can say for sure is that my OG Pixel XL is uploading full quality, uncompressed photos and videos to Google Photos without taking up any quota.

              • @tonyamazing: correct only the original pixel got unlimited storage, all the others had a time limit of a few years.

Thats why some people purchased the old pixel's

    • Photos and videos I've taken. I have well over a TB of photos and videos on Google Photos, uploaded from my Pixel 1 so they don't count towards my account storage thankfully.

  • If you have a current AUD subscription, I assume you need to cancel it before trying to sign up for Turkey rates?
I have YouTube through Turkey currently

    • You can try cancel, then sign up and it will add the remaining months onto the new subscription I believe

    • What did you end up doing? Cancel and reapply to Turkey?

  • how many years can you stack this? only one year?

    • +1

      renews every year

      • But will it still be around this price?

    • haha i had the same thought i was going to ask google if i can prepay 10 years

  • +1

I’m ok with using burner accounts for YouTube Premium, Disney+… for which you either don’t need your main account or can add it to a family group. But using the main account directly for this is a bit too far to me, with all the hassles and potential risks mentioned above.

Guess I’ll give it a pass. Still +1 for the effort and value of the deal though.

PS: For those just wanting to offload their photos to Google cloud, I reckon buying a Google Pixel 1 would be a safer choice (although less convenient).

    • +1

buying GPixel1 only gives you 15GB of original photo store. Fam mem have one.. of which I upgraded on my fam google1 plan.

      • Nope. Pixel 1 has lifetime unlimited full resolution photo storage.

Source : I use mine daily to upload all my pictures, with no impact towards my storage quota.

        • +1

Apologies. It was a Pixel 2… So yes Pixel 1 still has original photo store

        • How did u set it up where ur photos get transferred to the pixel 1?

          • @ramona: Use resilio sync. Does it automatically sync my phone photo to my pixel and then pixel to the cloud!

            • @NeoX: Does it work on iPhone as well?

          • @ramona: Depends if your current phone is an iPhone/Android or you want to backup pictures from a completely different source like a folder on a computer.

            • Android: Install any sync app across both the devices. I personally use syncthing. Lots of tutorials out there.

            • My current personal iPhone/Computer setup : This might not work for everyone. But I have a Synology NAS which I use as an intermediate step between iPhone>NAS>Pixel. This also gives me the added benefit of having a backup of the pictures on my NAS as well as Cloud at full resolution.

How do you change the country of you payment profile?

  • +11

You can create a payments profile by going to:
    https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings
Clicking the pen icon next to "Country/Region" and a link to create a new profile should pop up. You can then add details for the Turkish profile.

I've got an active One subscription so can't test out if creating a new profile is enough for changing until it expires. :(

    • Great thanks.

    • I also have an active One subscription in AUD - but I changed my Payment Profile to Turkey which seems to work. But when I view the pricing of Google One on the pricing page, it still is in AUD. Does this deal not work if you have an active One subscription?

      • You need to delete the Australian profile for it to work

        • I'd rather not delete it as I'd lose all the transaction history.

Can I create a new account, add it to the family, then change that profile to Turkey and purchase via VPN? Or does it need to be the family manager that purchases the subscription?

          • @Kiran90: What did you end up doing? I have an active One sub in AUD too and wondering how to go about changing it to Turkey.

          • @Kiran90: I think you need to be family manager in order to be able to share one subscription. I just tried this today and has no option on the Google one app to share to families.

            • @Pinchme: correct

              • @I Smell Pennies: I am able to share my one subs on my spare Turkey account after few trials and errors. So, first you need to disable sharing one subscription from your existing family manager account then you'll be to see this option in your spare account.

      • I changed my payment profile to a Turkish one and deleted my old one. Changed the address too. Not sure what I am doing wrong, each time to try and accept the invitation it says I am not in the same country as the person who created the account. I used windscribe to change my location.

  • I'm wondering why nordVPN shows GB Pounds.
Is there a free VPN that works?

    • Windscribe?

      • I found a von that worked and shows Turkish lira However once I log in with my google credentials, it reverts back to AUD. Changing country in the play store is not an option because you can only change country once every 12 months. Help?

        • Is one of your profile's Australian?

          • @I Smell Pennies: Yes, should I delete the original Australian profile? And if so, how? Can't see the option.

            • @liongalahad: I just did that now and it shows TRY pricing. Give it a try?

              • @Heybargain: Read of someone doing this and getting stuck with overseas account and not being able to change it back to Australia ever again. I think I'll give a pass to this deal.

                • @liongalahad: I was able to delete my Aus profile, set up Turkish one then recreate an Aus one. No issues here.

                  • @Heybargain: What does your Play Store look like now? Has anything changed to Turkish?

                  • @Heybargain: Yeah nah I tried all of that, deleted my original Aussie payment profile, so I only had a Turkish profile in my account. Still showing AUD when I logged in my account from a Turkish IP. No change there. So this thing is simply not working for me, no matter how hard I try.

                    • @liongalahad: Hey, I'm in the same position. Just wondering, did you try pausing /cancelling your current AUD One subscription first? Then go to resubscribe in Turkey?

Wondering if it is not working for you as there is a active subscription in AUD already. Let us know.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just subscribe 2 TB :)

  • Has anyone been able to use their existing Google account that's subscribed to Argentinian YT Premium to also subscribe to this deal? I'm going to assume removing all payment profiles will also remove my YT Premium subscription.

    • Yes, I'm typing up my comment right now, hold up

      yes, me. see here
