    Got dis. Dis good.

    • +1

Can confirm, sorted out all patchy Wi-Fi signals in my place

  • -1

If anyone gets these don't upgrade to the latest firmware yet (1.6) - it may cause problems. 1.5.7 works well.

    • What sort of problems?

      • I'm on 1.6 and in the last month had to reboot all mesh devices 4 times because either backhaul eth stops working to satellites and they try to then work via wifi. Also all client shown as off-line for 4 days when still online. Finally some devices names don't show correctly in Monthly reporting. Power cycling all M5 fixes the issues. Other than that they are great.

    • +5

I’m on 1.6 and have no issues

      • +2

Yep no issues on 1.6 here either. Loving these M5s

      • Me too. No issues.

        • Me three. No problems

    • Mines been fine on 1.6

    • +1

Reached out to Deco support, and got a beta fix. Still had some issues. But a reboot did correct it. Pain and a bit of hassle.

  • Good price. Got the $199 deal from Amazon few weeks back.
Working flawlessly so far and super easy to set up.

    • I paid about $220 from TGG commercial back in June, but don’t regret it. They work so well and I get perfect wifi signal in my shed now 👌🏼

      • Did you put a node in your shed?

I don't have these but my wifi is flakey in the shed. Once the door closes it loses most signal. I'm guessing the steel wheel is like a Faraday cage.

        • +1

Yep. I’ve got a window in the shed so put it on the window frame.

On the window, perfect. If I move it a foot further inside, nothing.

Bought for 199 a few weeks ago and they're worth every cent. Love turning off the wifi to the kids devices when they don't listen

    • Thanks dad.

    • Any tips for the instructions?

  • +8

Got one for myself and one for my parents. Tech support calls from parents have dropped by 99%. Worth every cent.

    • +2

And when you do get them, you can reboot the Deco from wherever you are. Or troubleshoot a lot of issues remotely.

  • Also got recently. Works great and has made the wifi coverage of my house and block way better.

    • By 'block', how far are we talking? I've been haviing trouble getting wifi coverage to the far end of my house. >:(

      • 600sqm

  • +2

These are wifi5, not 6, right?

    • +1

Correct, need the Deco X60 for Wifi 6

  • +1

I have these, only downside is wifi speed is less in the same room as the router but stronger in other rooms

    • +4

Maybe try turning transmit power down, so that the nodes don't interfere with each other.

    • That doesn't really make sense, unless you still have WiFi enabled on the router.

  • Are these V2 or V3 or V3.2?

  • +5

Brilliant. I work with families where children are addicted to video games and I recommend this to the parents for the inbuilt parental control software.
I have a video on how to set it up on my channel:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85d2tZ2c77c

This was originally recommended to me by the "Unplugged Psychologist" Brad Marshall.

    • I've had some issues with the parent controls, the time limits and hours of use seems pretty flakey, the general filters seem to work OK though.

    • this looks brilliant ! Can you group devices if they have more than one? E.g. max 1hr a day across phone and ipad or not that smart?

      • Yes, you can group devices to Profiles and then set Time limits or Blackout times.

  • Worth upgrading from Tends MW3 (which I'm not getting full speed upstairs) to this?

  • Do these work well for sharing a WiFi printer? Parents are struggling with a Tenda MW3 setup that seems to be the cause of so many printer issues…

    • +1

It's possible you just need to change the MW3 settings. What's wrong with the printer? FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC, FW? Is the MW3 configured as your router or bridged?

      • I think its HFC.
The printer (brother multifunction laser) will connect to the WiFi but needs to be reconnected every few hours as the connection drops and no device is able to find it on the network. This doesn't happen for other devices on the network :/
I think the MW3 is bridged, as the Telstra modem still has devices connected directly to the ethernet ports which are working well. Sorry not very good with networking (clearly!)
The MW3 just seems to be problematic - connection to the other units in the mesh is sometimes lost for no reason and they all need to be power cycled to work again. Also only I can access the settings through the app on my android phone but no one else can access it with the iPhone app? I'm hoping the Deco system might just work more smoothly.

        • +1

Those things shouldn't be happening. Some OzBargainers have replaced the MW3 with the Deco M5 with better results.

  • Have a kinda related question, not sure where to post it:

I've been using a mesh system (Tenda Nova MW3) connected thru the router.
Recently the router stopped working, telco said they couldn't fix it on their end and it might need a firmware update.

For the time being have the mesh plugged straight into the NBN black box. This has been working fine for a couple of weeks, even though it shouldn't work from what I understand reading forum posts.

Any reason to replace the router? Or ok to just leave it as is with the mesh connect straight to the NBN box.
    Really appreciate any help thanks!

    • What type of NBN do you have? FTTP, FTTN?

      • Black nbn box is used for HFC.

        • +1

          Oh yeah, missed that :)

    • +2

It is okay that way because I have it connected to the nbn box as well.

    • +2

@jp1011 You can keep the MW3 as your router plugged into the nbn NTD with most ISPs (excluding TPG, iinet). MW3 is suitable for speeds 100Mbps and under. A reason to replace the MW3 is if you changed your download to 250Mbps and Gigabit.

    • +1

Thanks so much for your help guys :)

  • i have tp link mesh, is good.

  • Is there a way to check what's on sale at tggc?

  • Do you need ethernet cable connection for all 3 devices, or only the main unit?

    • +1

      Just the main unit

    • Don't need though it's an option

  • +1

Does this work with landline/VoIP phones? Or do i need to purchase additional item/s for it to be compatible?

    • You’ll need a telephone adapter eg grandstream connected to one of the nodes where you want your phone to be located.

    • +1
      1. Purchase an IP handset like a Yealink or a VoIP analog phone adapter to plug into your existing handset.
      2. Swap providers - Siptalk, Crazytel to name a couple.
    • works fine with my wife work phone. You just need poe injector so voip phones can power up.

  • Can these work just as a mesh without the router functionality so current router can be used?

    • +1

You can do this by configuring the Deco's as Wi-Fi access points.

      • +1

        Thanks

  • Bought this a few weeks back, it is awesome! Even increased my internet speed, my old Netgear Nighthawk was getting me about 95mbps and with the Deco im getting 110mbps!

  • Is this better than the Google wifi generation 1 puck mesh?

    • +2

I have 2x gen 2 google mesh wifi im now trying to sell, as I recently upgraded to Deco X68 with a good 2nd hand deal. Ideally need 1-2 more Deco's, so might get this deal and hope I can sell the google's for similar price.

I upgraded mostly because of the lack of ethernet ports (0) on the google wifi points. There's only 2 on the main google router. The google app integrates better for smart home and googly things if you have them. And the smart speaker with voice assistant is nice. Otherwise they're probably much the same and you wont notice a difference, so I'd rec getting the cheaper TP Links that go on sale all the time.

    • +1

I had the Gen 2 Google Mesh Wifi setup and was getting random dropouts where wifi would become unusable and family had to switch to Mobile data briefly.

Since taking the plunge and swapping everything out for these M5, no dropouts whatsoever and very happy.

  • Showing $279 for me?

    • You must be checking Good Guys retail website.

      • I used the link above, but have just logged out of TGG commercial and in again and now showing as $170 :)

        • how to sign in?

  • +4

Have had a tp-link deco m5 3 piece mesh for the last 6 months, night & day experience when compared to the old wireless router (supplied by the internet provider).

Download speeds improved, no more buffering for Netflix, no more frequent dropouts & can actually access the internet from everywhere in the house rather than looking for that sweet spot.

    • Had the same issues and these were indeed an excellent solution. Also it was soon enough after getting NBN that I was able to get a refund on the provided router.

  • Can anyone confirm that you can walk between nodes with videos running and there is no buffering or obvious handover?

  • Question about these M5, I've had these for a year but these days wifi network needs to be optimised almost every day. It constantly becomes congested. What can be done to solve this?

    • Optimised? Contested? What do you mean?

I could do with some more fibre but I guess you aren't talking about that!

  • +1

Love my M9 3 pack, internet has been flawless since switching

  • +1

These are excellent, especially at this price. Paid $270 for mine maybe 18 months ago or so.

  • What are thoughts on these long distance wifi extenders? We live rural - can I get my wifi from 100-200m away?

  • +1

I sometimes wonder how big is your house size so that you need this mesh network? As I've been using Asus rt-ac68u okay with double storey house with plaster board walls

    • +2

I had the rt-ac68u. Didn't cut it at my place: 3 levels, some brick, some plaster, lots of steel and glass. Deco M5 3 pack resolved all issues.

    • I live in a small 3 bedroom single storey house and was using a reasonably high end Netgear Nighthawk router.
I had awful wifi reception through half of the house and outside.
The Deco M5 was a huuuuge upgrade. My actual internet sync speed increased from 95mbps to nearly 110mbps, it completely remove all wifi dead spots in the whole house and even outside, my phone reports maximum wifi reception everywhere now (though of course If I go outside in the garden I’m not getting full 110mbps speed, but before with my old router there would be zero connection out there)

  • Any comp experts able to comment? Want to get some better coverage to my current setup of 3x X68- 1. Will these connect to the Deco X68s, 2. Do these have the capability of getting download speeds of 350-450 Mbps, 3. X68s have dedicated backhauls- wil connecting with these affect this, 4. These being wifi5 mean anything with the X68 which are wifi6?

    • I have x60 and m5 mixed mesh - works fine. They don't 'interfere' with each other in any way - all Decos are made to work together.
Not sure what speed you'll get.

      • Thanks for sharing- what is your baseline peak speed on the x60? Is it the same when you connect to the m5? If not, what do you get?

  • Do u need to connect to these instead of the router, or will the router be included in the mesh. I have a decent speed router tp link ax73 2400. It’s good close but the coverage in the house is very poor.

    • +2

One can't use both router and mesh wifi at the same time as they will interfere. Two options, don't use router at all or if U use it then can connect Deco hard wire to it. Deco mesh will be your primary wifi if U go down that path.

      • You can use both, it's usually not a good idea though.

  • I just need one more deco to cover a small area. My others are x20. What’s the cheapest one someone can find?

  • will these work with Telstra 5G Home Internet modem?

    • Configure the Deco's as Wi-Fi access points.

      • If I connect these to ethernet ports will anything connected to these access points show up on the Telstra modem as connected to Wi-Fi or connected to ethernet? I have a couple of TPlink routers connected via ethernet as access points at the moment and unfortunately any wireless devices connected via these show up as connected via ethernet on the modem. This is problematic for me because my chromecast is close to 1 of these access points and now won't connect to my phone.

        • Ethernet, but none of this had anything to do with a Chromecast.

You just have to be a good guy. Who says good guys finish last…amirite?

      • No you are not right - Nice attempt of humour - but the saying is ‘Nice guys finish last’

    • If you have an ABN just send an email to them and they make your account. Same applies to JB Hifi Commercial.

  • Are these a modem as well? Or do I need to plug them into the Nbn box?

    • Not a VDSL2 modem. Plug in the M5 into the nbn box.

      • Not a VDSL2 modem

Will this not work with DSL? I purchased this as a gift for my parents in overseas, I think their connection is either DSL or Cable / Satellite type. Will Deco M5 be compatible with such types of internet?

        • They have to plug the M5 into their ISPs DSL modem or cable modem.

          • @Twix: Ok, I initially thought this replaces the ISP's modem. So I assume what you meant is

            ISP Modem > M5 modem + M5 Satellite > wifi End devices

            • +2

@Iwantthatbargain: For DSL they have to keep the ISP modem.

              ISP modem——M5 router + M5 satellite——Wi-Fi end devices

For cable they can replace the ISP modem.

              Cable modem——M5 router + M5 satellite——Wi-Fi end devices
