      • What about the 55”?

        • Sony A80K 55" would be $1788 after $707 discount.
Just bite the bullet and get the 65" my friend 😁

    • -1

Confirmed, went to Macquarie Park (Syd) JB. Got chummy with the sales guy and he showed me the BF prices for the C2 and Samsung. Long story, short I bought both.

  • +6

Well shit looks like I'm getting a 42" monitor for Christmas…

    • Haha I ready have 2 ozbargain favourite S2721DGF and still tempted to replace them with this. Seems like a downgrade for productivity but better for videos and gaming? Anyone have advice?

  • +3

    Oh damn that 42" C2 is tempting…

    • It's an insanely good price! I got mine for 1650 and it's worth it

      • +1

How does it perform up scaling lower res like Nintendo switch? Stick with an LCD for that?

        • Works fine. I run my switch in game mode. Downside is a lot of switch games are quite bright so you can get some image retention if you don't tone the brightness down for it. I mostly use my switch on my older LG oled55b6 rather than my oled42c2.

          • @DangerNoodle: When running the input in game mode, it's pretty nice as you can quickly switch the brightness using the dark room levels. Not sure if your model has that but check it out!

            • +1

@Ibz: Yeah, I adjust the brightness and black levels. I've found it's easier to connect my sound system to the TV and run eARC so I can have my PC and consoles connected to the TV for their own personalised settings for the 42c2. On my old 55b6 I just had everything connected to the receiver and then the receiver connected to the TV.

          • @DangerNoodle: I heard the brightness only gets up to 190 nits in SDR mode + game mode and it locks you out of peak brightness settings? That might be a dealbreaker for me. Are you able to confirm. cheers

            • @GoatWade: I have the same question, Im using 400 nit dell in HDR (ips) and for a room with closed window I found that little too dim for me but when I sit near the monitor its good, curious how would OLED in 190 nit are any worst. assumed with oled tv in hdr doesnt go lower than 190nit

  • +4

Don't forget to pick up discounted JB gift cards at Aldi

  • I didn't know there is a LG CS model??

    • +3

new to this gen. Likely to use up non evo panels they had + keep c2 prices from dropping even lower this gen.

  • +1

C2 42” too small for tv viewing in bedroom? After a 55” initially but that 42” price is really tempting

    • Pain. I just bought the C2 42" for 2 grand just a few months ago

      • +1

A lot of credit cards have price protection, that isn't usually advertised, but in the details.

        • +1

Aren’t there only two that have/had it - Coles and Latitude? Hasn’t been offered on new cards for a long time now for the latter, not sure about Coles.

          • +1

@MiscOzB: My combank platinum debit card has it, think the gold card could have it too.

    • +4

It’s perfect for my bedroom. Your bedroom is a bit smaller than mine so it’s fine.

      • +5

42 inches would be perfect for anyone's bedroom.

        • +1

pee wee size i use 55" as pc monitor and can never go smaller now

          • +1

@bitcoinorbust: Haha am I the only one old enough to remember when I used to get excited buying a 15" lcd monitor when young.

  • +3

Looks like the Big W ultimate gift card can only be redeemed in store. I’d imagine it will be a nightmare trying to secure something in-store on BF

    • Yeah looking at this, there isn't an easy way to use these online and in-store would be a nightmare as you mentioned, I assume most stock will disappear to click and collects within minutes of going live on the website. Unless you have actual JB HiFi gift cards ready to go, I don't see how this would work… Unless JB in-store allow you to buy their gift cards with these discounted gift cards? I assume that is not allowed

    • Is that a T&C unique to cards bought from Big W? I looked up the Ultimate Gift Cards website — it says can been redeemed online and in-store for JB Hi-Fi.

      • +2

I tried going through a dummy checkout with JB online and it seemed they only accepted JB gift cards as far as I could see. Some articles say you need to present physical Ultimate gift cards in person and run them though an EFTPOS terminal. It may also depend on which actual physical card you manage to get (older or newer). https://www.ultimategiftcards.com.au/how-to-use-my-card/ - this says "When shopping online, enter your card details in the debit/credit card section and not the gift card section" - so then the question is how many credit/debit cards to JB allow you to pay with in one transaction?

EDIT: Further it says "Please note that online merchants cannot perform split tender payments, so the amount of the purchase needs to be less or equal to the value of the card" - so considering you can only get $100 gift cards, the most you would save would be $10 in one transaction

Seems there is far too much conflicting info out there and lots of bad reviews of the Ultimate cards out there so personally I'm gonna give them a miss.

        • Ultimate gcs work in store but took a lot of my efforts. I had about 10-14 ultimate gcs, worked out the total and asked for the same value to be loaded in one jb gc. Efforts came from coverting digital ultimate gcs into “credit cards” in apple wallet. You have to manually enter the card details and use them to pay through eftpos machine. I got a loooooooooooog receipt after.

          • @AussieGargain: So you managed to convert them all? Was the cashier impressed or annoyed?

            • @appxl: Yep converted all into one single jb gc. Jb employee, she was really helpful. I was impressed by her support. Fist bumped after. It was about $1500 loaded into one card.

        • I can confirm that you could use unlimited amounts of the gift cards in store. After confirming that with the JB Hi-Fi staff, I then went on and bought 71 of the $30 Ultimate gift cards from Big W (all the $100 are gone already). The check out process was long but better than I thought: I only had to put the PIN in for the first gift card, then the rest of them I just swiped and pressed "credit" on the EFTPOS terminal. It is nothing new for the staff either, they have had experiences of a lot of other people doing that before too.

  • no Surface pro deals :(

    • They were on sale for like most of October

      • Thought the bf deal will be even better. Wad hoping the 16gb combo to go under 1k

  • Is this the black friday deal already? Don't think it can get any better than this!

  • +3

Any deals on LG C2 or G2 77?

  • -1

Does the 42” C2 have the same panel and same everything as it’s bigger 55”, 65” siblings? Is size the only difference?

On a side note, god the legs on the 42” is ugly compared to the others

    • +2

Only the 55” and up have the higher brightness, even though they’re all “evo”. I think that’s the only difference with the panels.

  • how does the 42" C2 perform as a work monitor? any obvious down sides to it? i play shooters on the pc every once and a while but will mostly be a work monitor.

Burn in is the biggest issue as using as a monitor is more likely to have static images, but there are in-built mechanics to prevent this as well as things you can do as a user.

Some people have also said text clarity can be poor, but not a deal breaker and most don't notice it.

      • +1

Auto dimming on text, pentile pixel (which affect clarity), no wake up from PC like a regular TV

        • Heard somewhere that auto dimming can be disabled (will require support or maintenance mode)

      • +1

LG replaces all panels for burn in here even outside of warranty

    • +1

It works pretty well. Make sure you have a deep desk, minimum 80cm, but probably 100cm would be good

    • +1

I run mine on my PC. I mostly use dark backgrounds to avoid burn in and run dark mode on most apps. Works great for games once you've played with the settings, I play PvP in destiny 2 from time to time. Auto dimming is noticeable for full screen browsing on white pages, usually I just run browsers on a corner of the screen to avoid auto dimming, it's good for multitasking since one corner of the screen for a video will be 1080p.

Depending on your PC you can run custom resolutions to avoid using every pixel and to reduce/delay burn in. But that being said, I've still got my 6 year old LG oled55b6 and no burn in after around 11000 hours, occasional image retention but it clears itself.

      • damn auto dimming sounds horrible. spend 2k and have to use browser in corners lmao

        • Yeah, can be a bit annoying. I think rtings did a review and figured out the exact proportion of the screen that has to go white before autodimming takes place.

Any deals for a LG 48"?

    • +7

      No. Hope this helps.

  • All this discussions of OLED tv makes me sad as our living room is very bightly lit and OLED is not considered to be good for such environment and QLED is advised. :'(

    • +1

      Samsung/Sony QD-OLED?

      • Not the Samsung after the last firmware update lowered the brightness. Maybe the Sony is a better choice?

      • +1

QD-OLED is the worst screen type for bright rooms as they don’t have a polariser

    • Unless you have your TV directly facing floor to ceiling north or west facing windows with no shading you'll be fine.

OLED has best in class anti-reflective filter that drastically lowers the amount of reflected light compared to a mid-range LCD meaning it can get away with not being as bright.

Person advising you specifically to buy "QLED" is probably getting kickbacks from Samsung.

      • Mines adjacent a wall, with an east window right next to it so it’s mainly bad in the mornings but fine otherwise. My x85j which was advertised on rating for having exceptionally good peak brightness looks super dim though. I want to get rid of it for a c2 42 but scared it might be even dimmer.

        • +3

The X85J is only 500 nits with poor ambient light handling. The OLED will appear brighter despite not actually being brighter.

          • @tp0: Thanks for sharing that! Can direct sunlight damage the panel even when it’s off? I get 2-3 hours of light on my tv in the afternoon

          • @tp0: Sorry to come back - do you know what peak sdr brightness would be for the 42 c2, outside of the pc mode (playing on consoles)? 500 nits for the X85j in SDR isn’t bad at all, I play on about 300-350 during day and I’m hearing 200 for the c2 and that seems pretty dim, hopefully not the case…

      • Don’t agree with this at all, it has best in class AR filter for TV’s, but compared to monitors it’s super reflective.

If you’ve got an open window in your room, you’re much better off with a QLED

        • It visually has the appearance of a mirror however it massively reduces the intensity of the reflections.

The AR filter on Samsung QLEDs is similarly mirror like except it also scatters point source reflections like lights and windows across the screen which is worse.

    • I have a 65 c1 in a very bright room, its fine for daytime viewing. Looks better at night though of course. As long as the sun is not shining directly on the screen its ok.

      • SDR content though? I’m hearing it’s very dim especially in SDR Game mode.

        • I dont game on it so cant comment on SDR gaming. TV SDR content looks ok for me, but i've spent a fair bit of time on my pic settings.

  • Yay 65" LG CS is a go!! Hurry up Tuesday…

  • +2

Just asked my local Good Guys about matching the 42" C2 in advance of the sale, they said they couldn't do it now but that they would hold one for me for pickup on the Tuesday and I just pay the matched price on the day. Now I have 5 days to figure out if I can get some discounted Good Guys gift cards to save a little extra…

    • They are owned by JB hifi, so I am sure they will price match all day long.

      • Yeah that's what the very helpful woman said on the phone, they'd 100% match it on the day when it happens no problem. I just don't wanna fight with everyone else to secure one, lol

  • Do you think TCL835 75 will be any cheaper than it is now?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-c835-75-4k-full-array…

    • Cheaper than $1995. I don't think so

      • +1

If you are patient enough, wait until black Friday and see other deals. Look at specifically appliance central at price match at JB

    • +1

Looks like it’s in the catalogue for the same price as it is now, but shows as $800 off not $600 off.

    • +1

it was cheaper last week combining the two cashback offers (GG & TCL)

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737345

    • Thanks all

  • +1

The Sony A80k 65" is going for $2995. Should l get this tv or the LG CS which is for $2688 or the LG C2 which is unknown but most likely in between those prices or the S95b for $3295?

    • +3

I have a 65 c1, after a year of use if i could purchase again ide get the sony, just because webos is so bad

    • A80k unless you game a lot and need the extra hdmi 2.1? I went for a80j last year instead of C1. Happy watching movies on it. I would jump at sub 3k A80k if I didn't have the A80J. Next upgrade will be to 77"!

  • What's better? 55" LG CS or 55" Sony A80J?

  • Judging by LG’s pricing history, Will we ever see the C2 42 this low again in its life cycle?

    • Nah

    • -1

Could even be argued that it might be a pricing error.

      • -2

        Flashbacks of Muzeeb

  • I have 55 inch tcl as my bedroom tv. Its viewing angles are terrible. Would the 42 inches TV be a downgrade or upgrade. What I mean is will the sheer quality of the expensive TV offset any benefits experienced by larger size.

  • Crazy price on the 42” C2. I was looking for the 48 as a bedroom gaming TV, but that price is too good.

  • Hi guys, do you If I can price beat at office work?

  • Anyone know any stands with wheels that would be good with the 42"? In thinking of having it behind the desk (in bedroom) and then being able to move it to the foot of the bed for watching content.

I put my 38" Ultra wide on an F100 mount but I reckon the LG 42" must be too heavy for that mount.

    • +2

The 42" is 9.8kg without the stand. Just get a Vesa 200x200 plate and see how you go..

  • Whats a decent monitor arm for the 42 C2? Ergotron HX?
