The chadstone store is the one I have most success getting prices matched.

  • +1

    Sorry folks….silly Q.

Does this apply to all HN's nationwide?

    • It appears to be, has been noticed in NSW, VIC and SA newspapers.

      • Also in Qld

  • +1

Seems like a fantastic deal. I just rang HN Fyshwick about the U840/00Q. It's included in the sale, its regular retail price is 999, so after cash back it would be $499. It's an i5 2467m, 8gb ram…. okay so it only has a crappy hybrid drive… but still a great deal in my opinion

    • how this compares to HP Envy 6-1010TU?

      • Depends on your preference I guess. The Envy has a larger screen - big minus from me, more HD space, less ram though…. and is a HP. I have a soft spot for toshibas, so my opinion will be biased.

  • Another silly question. Does their condition 'Goods must be paid for in full before redemption is paid' rule out buying it on the interest free period?

    • I doubt it, HN is paid in full when you buy it, you owe the money to GE Finance

    • That means you can't just take the Ultrabook home without paying it and then try to claim 500 back.

  • Hooray, returned the bad Sony deal I posted and am getting a cheaper ultrabook with better specs instead. So glad I checked OzB today.

  • does anyone know if it is sufficient to supply a photocopy of the invoice for the cashback? i am heading overseas and would like to take advantage of the TRS too and need the original invoice for that :)

    • +1

Yes last time I have only mail them the photocopy.

      • excellent, thanks superforever

  • Is this available in WA as well or just VIc?

    • Confirmed WA, it's in today's West Australian.

Just went to Moore Park Harvey Norman and they stated its off ALL Ultrabooks at RRP. No matter how you look at this its a great deal. People saying they mark stuff up please do your research. Average mark ups would be about 15% (give or take) and they are offering $500 cashback on any model. They would be losing money on this deal but I guess it stops the competition selling anything on the last day of financial year in the ultrabook range.

Moore Park also had other things on sale including 50% off, which was mainly games. I picked up a few recent games at under $20 and will go back first thing tomorrow for a new computer.

    • Already started?

      • -1

        Yes, already started and finished

        • Can't u read the posted date?

    • +1

Their terms clearly state that is has to be purchased on the 30 June 2012. Purchasing today will mean you simply rob yourself of $500. Cuz you wont get the cashback

      • +4

Not if you live in the future!

        • well played

  • Any reviews for
    - Aspire S3-391?
    - Envy 6-1010TU?

Tried digging through notebookcheck, but didnt find any specific to that model.
    thx in advance

    • DO NOT buy the Acer S3. I am one of the guy, who bought the Acer S3 from the first sale batch, from HN. The wireless WIFI always drop out. Got the latest firmware, drivers etc. u name it. You can research on Amazon how ppl think of this laptop about the wireless. You call up Acer support=it is fine, no problems blah blaj.

But, it is a bargain anyway. If you can live with wireless dropping out once a while. It is OK.

      • +2

I have no problem with the WIFI, remember don't download the latest one from ACER. Search for the model and dl it from the chipset manufacturer.

Also if you have a 300N router set it to 150N but because it is a bluetooth and WIFI combined chipset, so you can only connect at half of the speed.

        • The wifi on my S3 has no issues at all!

      • My S3 WiFi also works fine, never had an issue. Probably your router man

        • I took my laptop several places-hotel and friend houses, dropout intermittently. So it is not my router. Turned off/on BT make no different. I have a usb LAN adapter, works 3 days no drop out at all. Tried different drivers, BIOS etc….the only thing has improved on the latest version is, it can connect back after it drop out. Anyway, just my 2 cents… my comp knowledge above average.

        • What drivers u have tried.

      • My wifi is rock solid on my S3.

      • I had WIFI problems at the start but that was because i was on powersaver and it did not have maximum settings for wifi in battery options. after i changed it, it was perfect. I was also one of the people who got it for $488

        • Yep. A quick fix was provided in one of the reviews on Harvey Norman's site. Credit goes to the reviewer 'Zeki':

"Please note that the wireless connection on this laptop dropped out constantly and drove me insane. It would last 5 mins and then disconnect from the router, even though the rest of my wireless devices worked perfectly. It got so bad that i was about to return it.

Then i did a search online and found a fix which made that laptop work perfectly and now after 2 months of problems absolutely no issues whatoever. You need to go to Control panel > Hardware > Device manager > Network adapters > Right click the adapter > properties > power management > uncheck the save power box."

          http://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-aspire-s3-391-ultrabook-…

  • Has anyone been able to get it at this price?

  • Confirmed this is on in QLD, and the sales lady said the S3-391 would be eligible for cash back.

None at my local though (Oxley).

  • Would any of these be Ivy Bridge and is there a quick way to identify a 3rd Gen i5/i7 Ivy Bridge rather than relying on the seller?

    • +1

      Check the display chipset.
if it is Intel HD4000 then it will surely be Ivy Bridge.
if it is Intel HD3000 then it will be the old Sandy Bridge.

      • +1

Pretty much. 90% of these are Sandy

Samsung NP530U4C-S01 Series 5 is the cheapest Ivy bridge here

        • That Samsung looks pretty spec'd up

I'm surprised they are calling it an Ultrabook as it has an Optical drive and discrete graphics card.

        • The Broadway store said there's none left in NSW and only 3 stores in Aus with stock, so good luck to anyone who gets one

        • It's really stretching it at 4 pounds. Matte screen, graphics card and a bunch of ports are nice though

    • The first digit of the processor number (after the i3/i5/i7) is the generation.
e.g. the NP530 above is an i5-3317UM while the Acer S3 is an i3-2367M.

    • Thanks for the all the feedback. Going to try to score an Ivy Bridge Ultrabook today.

  • This will be really dumb, but what's the difference for it to be an Ultrabook? I was at HM today and took some pics of laptops I liked. Would this be a ultrabook? http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg43/scaled.php?server=43&fil…

    • In general, Ultrabooks are those one that are under 1.5kg and has longer than 6hr battery life

      • On paper. Very few will really give longer than 6hr for normal usage (unless you set all setting to the lowest possible, to the point making things hard to see). Even MBA couldn't last that long. 4-5hr may be more reasonable

    • It will use an intel processro (i3, i5, i7), lighter than 1.5kg, thinner than a certain thickness (forget the thickness), and atm will be an 11 to 13.3" screen (currently no 15" ultrabooks available that I've seen). Also, big point is instant on, will boot on within 7 seconds.

      • Then you haven't seen the Samsung 15" Series 9 NP900X4C ultrabook.

      • Then you haven't seen the HP Envy 6-1010TU 15.6" ultrabook.

  • +1

Bit of a price difference here… so yeah be careful.

    HP Envy Spectre 14-3011TU
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/hp-envy-spectre-14-3011tu-ult… $2299
    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/ultrabooks/… $1697

    • That's scary!!

    • Apparently HN still treats us like foolish sheep ~~~~ baaahhhh

  • Just wondering which paper for NSW was this ad in?

  • Does anyone else have the issue with the Asus zenbook 21e 11" , still very interested to get it tomorrow

  • -6

Why are people getting excited over laptops these days, I thought tablets are the future? If you are going for a laptop, why not get a desktop instead, much bigger screen and cheaper. Use tablet/mobile when not at home.

    • +1

Tablets are not quite there IMO. Windows 8 tablets, the ones with good performance are $1200+ and the iPad is certainly no replacement for a laptop. I am afraid the games on Tablets suck as well, no depth to any of them, many seem to be for kids or young teens and graphics are ho hum.

      • -3

How often do you do desktop stuff outside of home? You might as well play the games you mentioned on a desktop PC at home, which will have a much bigger screen and better graphics, for cheaper.

        • +4

Not everyone is like you. Some people do use their laptop for work. A tablet is a joke for those people - you can't open two windows at once for cross-referencing, the keyboards suck, there's no real office suite like MS Office, etc.

        • Yes that is what I was getting at exactly. I guess there are those of us that just browse, listen to music and watch video then the current tablets are fine but doing any meaningful work on them is a bit awkward.

        • Some people actually type documents.. You know.. people who actually use it for work, not someone who just surfs the net because they're bored commuting or waiting for the train.

try and do word processing on a tablet. So slow and stupid.

  • A lady just asked at HN Facebook page about this deal. This is their reply:
"Harvey Norman Hi Lisa, good (you say good, I say AWESOME!) news! Wanted to confirm that, yes, it's $500 cashback on Ultrabooks for tomorrow only! Usual terms will be available in store, and excludes Apple.
    Cheers"

    • +2

      well that clears everything up.

      • +1

…which really is 'nothing' at all……

  • +9

Anyone tried this with the 28 Degrees Mastercard shoppers protection insurance? So say I paid 999 for the HP - claimed the 500 back - then in two months time Harvey Norman are selling it for 799 - do you reckon I'd be able to claim the 200 dollar difference from my insurance even though I'd already claimed cash back? I assume this would be possible - can't see any reason why not.

Plus I go overseas next month could claim back the GST too - so this looks quite good.

    • +1

      DUDE!

    • -1

I think you can try your luck. but there is a chance that the model u buy may just randomly disappear from their store when the rest are discounted. always happens to me.

    • +1

      You da man!

  • at Dick Smith : ASUS UX21E-KX007V with Bonus 2 Years Anti-Theft price $899
at Harvey: Asus UX21E-KX004V Ultrabook price $1399

Why is that much diff? After cash back harvey's price will be same!

    here are the links: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/asus-ux21e-kx004v-ultrabook-l…
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC8429/11-6-quot-asus-ux21e-…

  • Does anyone know if it's one per customer?

  • -1

I have just checked out 2 HN stores
    Knox VIC
    Chadstone VIC

All the prices shown on the website are DISCOUNTED Price
The $999 HP one everyone is talking about is rrp $1499
So i would expect to see the price increase tmr
And ASUS zen book is a lot cheaper else where.

So unless they do cashback on discounted price, you're better off buying one from somewhere else…

ASUS zen book wasn't even on sale.

    • Check tomorrow whatever price they have it on their site you can claim $500 off it.

      • I called in today and confirmed for the HP Envy 6 that it'll be $499 after cashback and yes you can pair it with the free beats solo offer from hp, providing you can sell on ebay for $130-$140 (Including ebay fees and whatnot), it'll come down to around $370ish, which is an EXCEPTIONAL deal :D. Most stores open at 8am tomorrow, and limited stock only, so get in early.

  • Rang up Harvey Norman, Castle Hill
They said that prices for Ultrabooks will be RRP before $500 off.
AND HP Envy 6-1010TU is NOT an Ultrabook

Rang up Harvey Norman, Bella Vista
They said that prices for Ultrabooks will be the web prices before $500 off.
AND HP Envy 6-1010TU is certainly an Ultrabook

      • They may call it one, but Intel defines the terms that qualify it for the tag. It has a 15.6" screen. Not sure if that counts. Not 100% sure if there's a size limit, but that is big.

    • I think even difference person at Castle Hill will give you difference answer.

    • +2

I rang up castle hill and they said. "Ultrabook? whats that!"

  • Its like every store functions separately, interested in the acer s3 and asus ux21e, which one would be better for uni?

  • Anyone own the HP Envy 6-1010TU? What is it's performance like?

  • Hmm… guess I could try venturing into HN tomorrow when I haven't made a purchase from them in many years. Thinking it will go along the lines of it only being available on shitty overpriced RRP models, or the sales person refuses to honour the deal.

  • -1

Any laptop going around 700-800? With the discount on the end which total price for $200-300 bux is alright

  • -1

Any laptop going around 700-800? With the discount on the end which total price for $200-300 bux is alright

  • My local is Harvey Norman @ Domayne. Is the deal on there?

    • Yes it's Nationwide

  • Between the Toshiba Satellite U840/00Q and HP Envy 6-1010TU, which one is better overall? I can't find too many reviews online.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/hp-envy-6-1010tu-ultrabook-la…

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-satellite-u840-00q-ul…

    • the satellitle's better (With 8GB Ram), but since you have the beats offer running on the envy, the envy's the better deal.

      • Thanks. That's what I was thinking too although HN may see the RRP of the Envy 6 as $1199 (as opposed to the $999 on the webstore).

Last Q — if the store doesn't has stock (but it can be back-ordered), and I make full payment tomorrow, will this qualify for the $500 cashback?

    • just as you know for the toshiba one, HN had a sale $790 few wks ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/72054 and rightnow web price is $999 (markup just over $200 already). So just make sure that tomorrow they don't sell it at RRP price which is more than web price.

  • need to pay ?~30 for p and h for the beats…. just factor that in….

    • +1

      It's actually $19.95

      1. Payment of the postage and handling fee of $19.95 AUD must be made by following the steps specified in the claim validation confirmation email. The payment methods available are; (a) VISA; (b) Mastercard; (c) Electronic Funds (bank) Transfer. Rewards will not be shipped until receipt of these monies has been confirmed by the Promoter.
    • Reckon he's getting them for $499 (after $500 cashback) and then claiming the Beats Dr. Dre headsets as well?
