    went to City West (Perth), bought the acer s3 for $839. they had a fair few envy 6 for 999. and was willing to give 500 cashback on any ultrabook which is discounted on the harvey norman website

    +1 on the Toshiba Satellite U840/00Q for $499 (also got 3 year replacement warranty for an extra $150) after the $500 HN rebate. The bonus is the backlit keyboard unlike all the other ones on offer and it has a single USB3 so I don't care if it's sandy or ivy chipsets… It's half the price this weekend of the cheapest AIR on sale @ JBHIFI with the 10% off sale next door. It has a 16gb SSD so resume is as quick as any UB and with a segate XT hybrid drive upgrade it will be even faster with decent storage options too. Dam side cheaper than a dedicated SSD even with the recent drop in prices…

    I'll get the cheap win8 and give it a look see on another HD and this laptop is my travel and work laptop, if I kill it HN will replac it with the current model for 3 years! Apple can't come near it in value and I have a Mac and would have bought an AIR just for the backlit KEYBAORD USB 3 & SSD, but at over twice the price, well no thanks Steve (RIP)

    3 will go to work, and I will keep one. Most likely the Toshiba.

    Going to pick up 2 x HP Envy 6-1001TX with 8GB ram and 7670 dedicated video card for $1150ea in HN. As this brought the price closer to the 1010TU was the deal breaker for me so very happy, plus I get $500 cash back on each and the beats headphones as well….sweet :)

    An additional 3 yr warranty was an extra $230 which gives you a total 4yr in store no questions ask replacement warranty. Still deciding whether to get this or not….tempting!!!

        The lady explained it was 3yrs on top of the 12 months. I'll have to check into that and yeah $140 is very good. I will definitely haggle and probably definitely worth getting then.

          If you check the pds it may be incorrect unless they have updated them. It starts after your manufacturers warranty ends so what the lady told you is correct.

          as i said that is incorrect. You can call up the policy line to confirm, but it starts when manufacturers ends.

          What could be confusing people is different warranty lengths are available. 3 year extended and 2 year extended are both options.

        Heh, I was at Albany Creek this morning. Picked up two Samsung 900X ultrabooks. They're meant to be $1,588 but the ticketed price was $1,488. The sales guy checked with the supervisor and he said it was fine, so I got them for $1,488… which is $988. That's an amazing price for the ivy bridge 900X.

    Its best to call up the harvey normans stores, its seems some jacked up prices for today sale whereas others have the online rrp prices. If you want jacked up prices Harvey Norman go to Cannington in WA. i asked the sales guy to match the online rrp for the 61010 HP and the sales guy said no. i called up the harvey norman at Belmont Forum and ask how much there were $999. Whoop whoop. bargain :)

      the problem with that is when you need to claim you have to pay an excess which starts from $100+. So it may be better to pay upfront for the 2-3 year policy. In my case i got 2 years for $100 which is better than having to pay $100 down the track for a policy which may not even replace the item and opt to repair it. Insurance is usually though Zurich so you may want to read their PDS rather than just relying on what the bank tells you as if you need to make a claim you will be dealing solely with the insurance company.

    Seriously though, is everyone buying the cheap ones just for the hell of it? The specs are pretty crap and all you can basically do is do web browsing on it and use word.

        And FYI, they're all technically 'notebooks'.

          was gonna get the folio 13 ultrabook, then I checked my phone and the redemption period for the beats has been run and won. So got the 1001 TX display model instead (well my dad did…) for 1241 with free dvd driver+bag+mouse because it was a display model and we were upset that they didn't have the 1010.

    You can ask the store to back order the laptop you want and pick up the laptop another day as long as the receipt is dated 30/6/12.

    This means you can claim the $500 cashback.

    My work mate brought 2 ASUS UX21E-KX007V and we back ordered 2 ASUS UX21E-KX007V as well.

    This is help all of you who missed out as no stock.

      People get into trouble doing this since they do regular reconciliations of what was sold back to what was in stock. The store cannot sell what is not in stock and should not do so for rebate schemes such as this.

      I don't think you can do this. I asked it before to get HP Envy. But the sales person said you can't get a cash back with a back order items.
      As you know, you need a serial number to claim the cash back.

    Done, bought one.. best buy ever.. essentially, you could get it for like $300(if you sell the headphones).. best ultra book buy you will ever find.. especially for a i5, not even my friend who works for HP office can get it that cheap..

    guy at the counter said it was the last one and it was like 1200, i said online its 999, he said its an online price.. i was like ok.. well dnno how you can do that.. if thats the case im not gonna bother, he said well will you take it if its 999..
    I said, yeah but you know i'm not stupid, i know people have been coming in at that price because i called up this morning and you had over 10 in stock.. his supervisor was not impressed that he was trying to gouge out more from me.. lol..

    I purchased $1241 for ENVY 6-1001tx at first HN, they don't have any at front, the guy check the computer and tell me price is $1241. At second HN i saw an advertised paper outside for 6-1001tx $987, I want crying… but I come in store, the price tag on Laptop is $1299, I asked the staff, the guy spent $15 mins, and tell me another guy printed the wrong price outside, and also that is yesterday's price, today $1299 can't be less as it got $500 cash back… All stores different..

        Its the black label on the side of the box. Cut that out - just go around the edge with a sharp knife and pull it up and off. Take a photo of the original bar barcode and keep it as a back up before you post. And make sure you send it via registered post.

    I was torn between Acer S3, Toshiba U840 and HP Envy 6-1010TU.
    But there was no stock for Acer S3 and Toshiba U840 in my local Harvey Norman@Belrose.
    So the choice is clear :)
    Before I got HP Envy 6-1010TU, I thought a 15.6" Ultrabook would be a joke as it will be too heavy.
    Once I got it in my hand, it feels good~~~

    people buying the machine - selling it for the original price they bought it for. They would have taken a copy of the receipt to claim the $500 AND the Beats Solo Headphones before the next buyer finds out.
